      The secret to that is that they never hard spar in the gym.
      Most good gyms in the U.K have caught up to this (I’d assume everywhere), where you might hard spar every couple of weeks (unless you’re actively fighting in which case not really at all.
      Seems like we have a limited number of hours we can fight for (against other skilled fighters), but Thai’s worked out not to use those limited hours up in training and to leave it for fights.
      …..wish that had been the norm when I first started training, cos having a semi permanent headache through your entire twenties ain’t fun 😂 (jokes, it’s not quite like that)

      Until you catch the slippery fucks.
      Well one time. Seen an old fight where a smaller guy was beating the slightly bigger one. He couldn't get near or get his legs kicked, and you could tell he was getting hurt bad.
      Big guy was like screw this, and basically speared him while getting popped in the face. Then when on top it was all over.
      Yet you watch that, and think... If it was a Muay Thai fight? The bigger European would have been picked apart without the ability to over power, or take him to the ground. He got punished any time he tried getting too close, or tried striking. He punched he got kicked. If he kicked he got checked and punched.
      I think they are the best, and most savage stand up fighters in the world. It isn't like MMA where you usually get taken out once you get rocked. In boxing and Muay Thai you have time to stand up, and get an other ass beaten.
      Such a brutal sport.

    • @ghostbravo7127
      @ghostbravo7127 Год назад +7

      She is good fighter, and could hold her own in Muay Thai fights. But she is not very well known in the more serious female Muay Thai scene which to this day is not mainstream and as such is somewhat underdeveloped. She never competed to become the WMC champion or any major IFMA events, so she never ended up facing any of the top thai fighters of her time, and didn't even face some of the western kickboxers who had earned their respect in Thailand. It is sad to see that western attitudes towards Muay Thai and MMA for women are all to often centered around viewership and good looking stars who can woo fans rather than the most deadly fighters. It certainly isn't the culture I was trained in when I began my Lethwei training. When discussions of great western fighters in the Muay Thai and Lethwei scene come up, the name I hear most often is, Anissa Meksen, who has proven herself as a kickboxer, and could pose a real threat to some of the greatest female Thai fighters. That may seem like it does not mean much, but female fighters in the Muay Thai scene in Thailand and neighboring nations with adjacent fight culture and martial arts, are without a doubt the most deadly female martial artists in the world.

    • @jimbishop8667

      @@ghostbravo7127 Dude... she actually went to Thailand and competed and won the women's Thailand muay Thai championship! • @ghostbravo7127
      @ghostbravo7127 Год назад

      @@jimbishop8667 If you read what I wrote, and knew about the Muay Thai scene in Thailand, you would know she never once fought one of the great female fighters in Thailand. There are so many championships these days, but who you fight is what really matters, not belts or leagues, and she can not back up her claim of beating top thai fighters. But I already gave you an example of a western fighter who proved herself above. If you want some other women (outside of the Thai scene) who have or have proven they could, put up a challenge for Thai fighters, then look at Iman Barlow, she has a great western record, and actually began her career training and fighting in the Thai scene which hardened her into the fighter she is today, I do hope she returns to fight some of the top thais of this era as she has already proven herself in the west by this point. Iman fought Sawsing, who is a real Thai talent, to a draw, although Sawsing was 16 at the time so I know many wish to see that rematch now, and wish to see Iman paired up against more top thai talent, but again, western fighters rarely take fights against top Thai talent, it is not good for their careers, branding, or profits, but Iman has done it before and I hope she goes for it again. I can give you half a dozen other names of foreign female fighters who have or might be able to match up against top thais, and have fought in the thai scene before, but instead I'll give you the name of a western female fighter who has fought without fear in the Thai scene, and even in her loses she continues to choose to the face the best of the best in the world, rather than fight sub-par opponents for fame and money. Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu, is a western fighter, who all the Thai coaches and fighters respect as if she were a Thai fighter herself, she has doesn't dodge fights, she doesn't make excuses for losses, she keeps fighting, and has fought more than any female fighter from the west in Thailand, and has a lot of wins, even if she has lost to a few of the best female Muay Thai fighters ever, including most prominently, Loma. Sylvie will without a doubt become one of the best western Muay Thai coaches for women after she retires as a fighter, and I personally use some of her work in my daughter's training, even though she fights MMA. She might not be the most naturally physically gifted fighter, but if other western fighters trained and fought like her, you'd start seeing western Muay Thai champions that can beat top Thais.

    I did a little Muay Thai. It is a great martial art. The clinch is awesome and you learn how to move around really well with Muay Thai.
    The classes force you to hold your stance for long periods of time to the point where your shoulders hurt from the weight of your arms. They will not allow you to put your arms down for hours.
    Practice movements were drilled hard. We did Ju Jitsu 2x a week at that school. It taught me how to put combinations together keeping distance and then choosing to go in close quarters and grab your opponent in a clinch.
    If you have Wrestling, BJJ, Boxing or Judo, all your game is going to get a lot better with some Muay Thai. I was able to get in there with some good fighters after a few months at that school. It was awesome.
    We had 2 Muay Thai champions for sensei. They were the best guys down there in Queens, NY. Those training sessions were intense. I would die doing that now. I was walking out of class drenched where you sweat so hard all your skin is pruned like you've been underwater. You walk outside and your skin is drenched. You'll wet the seats of your car training Muay Thai. My car smelled like a locker room.

    Can confirm that a Muay Thai event is the most entertaining sports event that i’ve ever been to. The breaks in between fights were super short, the ref will hardly ever break up 2 fighters (unlike boxing and kickboxing which have to constantly be broken up for hugging), when fighters do clinch they stay busy with trips, elbows, knees, punches etc. Its just a lot of fun and the fighters are always respectful before, during and after the match.

      @@Y8080-i6zyou're just wrong. First of all when the points are counted by landed strikes The strikes have to land clean with Power and intention to hurt your opponent. Second thing is that I don't think they count the points like that in the biggest organizations anymore.

      Muay Thai is closer to a all out stand up fighting than kickboxing is tbh. They use those other joints you mentioned and allow clinch strikes which are very brutal. Buakaw, the famous Muay Thai fighter, went to K1, the kickboxing organization, and dominated the competition so badly with clinch strikes that they had to change the rules to disallow it. Joe Rogan's take on this makes a lot of sense.

    I went to Bangkok in 2001. I got to go to the Mui Thai fights in the local arena. It was probably one of the most exciting and greatest things I’ve ever seen in my life.

    Kickboxers do have a better style if you want to strike but not get taken down easily.
    Saying Muay Thai is just superior really misses the point. If anything kickboxing is still the superior striking style all around.

    Went to a Lethwei in Myanmar some years ago... talk about brutal!... Bare knuckles boxing, with knees, elbows, headbutts... The only way to win is knock out you opponent

    I once heard a muy thai coach say, concerning matches, "the winner can't walk the next day either". That pretty much sums up how tough it is.
    Their legs have to be stronger than concrete. Their elbows and knees can break bone. It's insane how much skill goes into it.

    My best friend was, in his younger days a semi professional Mua Thai fighter and still has a lump on the front of his head from and elbow 25 years ago! I made the mistake of asking him to kick me on the shin as a test to see how its done and no joke there was hardly any power yet i had a lump on my shin and it absolutely hurt. The conditining of these fighters is something else. An excellent form of self defence and excercise.

    I went to Thailand for a while and frequented fights and damn seeing like 10-13 year olds fight was really hard but it helped me understand the culture. I also remember this Russian dude headlining a fight that scared the hell out of me. It was like if Tyson and Drago from Rocky 4 made a muy thai fighter. Just insane power.
