One of the best anime episodes I've seen in a long time. The unique visuals like Fern throwing off her cloak is just hnggghhh. I had to replay the part where she side-steps Lugner's attack like a pro.
Funny coming from Switzerland and being able to speak Swiss-German and Standard German, all the names are in German. "Lügner" means liar so I was sitting there (even though everything else gave it away but the name was the last bit that just gave me the last "hint" even though it's still googleable) was funny. Fern means far Frieren means to freeze or freezing (smth or feeling the cold to the point where you freeze) Draht means wire Linie means line and her "Erfassen" means to capture but more in the sense of "record" something Stark means strong, in English it means something severe/distinct/obvious/strong as well Just to name a few.
I'm running this anime now and at the moment this fight is one of my favorites. Initially, Fern and Stark believed they couldn't win against Linie and Lugner. But once they realize they can (Fern forcing Lugner on the defensive due to her insane casting speed and Stark realizing he can tank Linie's blows) it's over. The track that plays leading up to their victory matches it perfectly. Without fear there cannot be courage.
What were we sincerely hoping for? From the beginning Freiren said that she did not believe that Stark and Fern would lose and she knows her disciple well enough to say that, after all she trained her because she saw that she had talent. In Stark's case, he was trained by Eisen the definition of toughness itself. Stark received a scar from a serious blow from Eisen when a blow like that should have killed him and anyone in general, the dwarf runs on damn water, his strength is something else. Stark's toughness is already on another level, Linie's ax didn't even pierce him just superficially. In short, both are just built different
I saw a guy write a review on mal saying that the action is nonexistent and that the anime would be good if the story was about himmel’s party with extra flashy action scenes. I’m glad we didn’t get that with this anime. The action is less but is amazingly animated because the animators are allowed to cook
Not sure if I'm reading too much into this but even the voice-acting is top-tier. The way that Lugner says "Linnie" as she gets hit almost sounds like a chastisement, as if Lugner doesn't actually care for how she is but rather is merely annoyed that demon magic was disgraced. Which fits the whole theme of demons being soulless creatures who only care about advancing demon magic.
The funny thing is that he said it as he was about to strike. But because of how fast his strike was. It sounds like he said it afterward. It's just that fast. Even the animation shows it. There is only 1 attack frame. He started to speak at the wind up. Finished the attack and then finished the rest of the line.
Did you notice the detail? The name of the attack "lightning strike" is perfectly done at such a level that first you see the ray of light and with a delay, you hear the sound, fitting perfectly with the name which alludes to the fact that it is a blow to the lightning speed.
Linnie strikes very hard. Harder than any normal warrior. But Eisen is a fucking powerhouse, one of the best warrior in history. Stark perception of strenght is completely skewed because of him and that's why Stark doesn't think he is that strong or resilient.
Stark made Eisen so scared when they argued that he threw a punch with full force onto Stark’s face. And Eisen was literally the most powerful warrior. If he could withstand his mentor’s punches (as a kid even) then Linnie’s strikes are nothing
Demons are actually stronger than most warriors. The reason why Linie didnt manage to cut him because Stark is also built like a fucking tank like Eisen. Stark believed himself to be weak but actually he is very powerful.

I LOVED this fight (or fights i guess). They weren't too heavily choreographed, but they were very cinematic. I'm also loving all of our main characters so far! Usually there's one that's a bit annoying but not this time 😍
I've read someone say that Frieren is boring because all the main characters are Gary Stu and Mary Sue characters, but IMO it's hard to justify that when none of the characters are pulling powers out of their ass. Fern's magic teacher is a millenia-old elf from the Hero's Party, and Stark's teacher is its indestructible dwarven vanguard. This story is just very well-written, and if the writing stays consistent, any future holes in the plot can and will be explained properly due to its core premise of Frieren being several millenia old. She can just take an experience from her memory and the plot will be resolved.
People who say that don't understand power scaling in anime. It's a common issue with people watching things as they just watch they don't connect the dots as to why a character is the way they are in strength. Frieren isn't even the greatest mage in the story or history she is just insanely powerful.
I honestly thought i would not like this series but lo and behold i keep coming back every week and when im done with the episode, i eagerly await the next. Has everything you would want in a high fantasy series. Excellent quality all around. I was so tired of the bullshit isekai laking in any depth and character development. A serious story like this fall along the lines of goblin slayer full of meaning and heart. Tis a good season for anime indeed.
Stark is FAR stronger than what he normally shows, he could easily reach hero levels of broken if he applied himself but his cowardly mentality really gets in his way
0:18 this aint pain or shock or even the ax. Its realization hitting her. Those techniques she stole are not hers to wield. They were made by and for people far exceeding her in specific areas... Lile Eisens: it was made for a Warrior with little care for elegance or defense (since he himself was though) and meant to utilize his raw strength - something she had very little of. That's the truth. And it killed Lügner (the liar). Eisen couldn't have guessed his stance would become poetic someday...
I love how there's literally no animation of Starks strike. At all. Just, 1 frame, axe raised, poised to attack; next frame, Linie is already cleaved straight through. Man swings that axe through well over 200 degrees of rotation in less than a frame. I'm sure somebody out there can do the maths on that, taking into account its weight and the impact force it must've had, and get us a good idea of how fast and strong Stark really is. And he did that after a protracted battle whilst bleeding from multiple wounds that would've probably been fatal to lesser beings. Eisen was right to be scared.
He didn't care. Linie was his scapegoat to make an opening against Fern, she was gonna be the decoy (and probably get killed by Fern anyway) so Lugner could target Fern and kill her. He expected Linie to "finish the job" and aid him, but since she was killed his plan was rendered useless, he got distracted by checking if she was coming or not and couldn't keep up with Fern. When Draht got killed by Frieren none of them cared a bit outside of the fact that Draht's death messed up their original plan, and you expect them to care for each other now? Lol Also, it was never that demons are incapable of showing emotions, it's that they are incapable of true empathy or friendliness for Humans or other races, or even among themselves.
maybe, the demons are prideful, sadistic and arrogant, those are emotions HOWEVER, even if they can experience happiness, anger, and many other emotions, they do not have the moral compass necessary to work properly in society. They do not know what guilt, sorrow, or remorse are, they don't understand it.
Insane animation. Frieren is not that action packed, but when there's action, they just throw loaded sakuga moments at the audience.

Aerial has so much bullshit it probably has some cursed energy counter stored somewhere lol
who's suletta?
Suletta with Aerial and Calibarn would destroy Sukuna🤣
I always love when Fern lets loose, shes truly a force of nature. Pure focus on that face, and all of it dedicated to Deleting You
One of the best anime episodes I've seen in a long time.
Fern means far
Frieren means to freeze or freezing (smth or feeling the cold to the point where you freeze)
Draht means wire
Linie means line and her "Erfassen" means to capture but more in the sense of "record" something
Stark means strong, in English it means something severe/distinct/obvious/strong as well
Just to name a few.
The visuals, the music... so glad they're doing this manga justice.
this is so easily the 2nd best anime of this season and we still getting 19 more episodes of this masterpiece we're eating SO GOOD🔥🔥🔥
Mushoku Tensei remains #1
Mad house is really cooked well with this series
I'm running this anime now and at the moment this fight is one of my favorites. Initially, Fern and Stark believed they couldn't win against Linie and Lugner. But once they realize they can (Fern forcing Lugner on the defensive due to her insane casting speed and Stark realizing he can tank Linie's blows) it's over. The track that plays leading up to their victory matches it perfectly. Without fear there cannot be courage.
Stark was so fast, there was legit no animation for his swing
Idk why but the lag in timing of Stark cutting threw Linie and saying the name of the attack is super satisfying 0:16
So true but Linie deserved it and so did Lügner.
@@Mandalorian_Goblinslayertheir facial expressions before dying just screams “damn, oh well” which fits their entire personalities
It's not just the animation, but the music too. Its powerful
Stark really hit her with the "call an ambulance. But not for me."
I love how this anime show how fast Stark finishing blow is by just skip a frame
Since that Dragon fight, i kept getting hyped each time our lad starts a confrontation!!
IMHO this clip should always start when the music starts building up.
Madhouse is really fighting for that Anime of the Year Title!🏆 🔥
Their deaths are so fast I cannot get over them. IT'S SO SATISFYING, SO REAL, SO GOOD.
Lügner: *gets distracted for half a second *
Fern: K A G A S T E
The animation of these fights!! Abosultely unreal!!
How ironic that Zoltraak, which was created by demons to kill humans, is now being used by humans to kill demons.
Thanks for introducing me to the track you use in your outro.
Madhouse never disappoints!!!
"Your attacks don't have any weight behind them at all, so in that sense, it's Starkin time"
Stark: Says his move after the effect has took place.
Anime Characters: Hold up, wait a minute, something ain't right
The funny thing is that he said it as he was about to strike.
Aw, Fern’s just an adorable little machine gun of absolute death.
Stark blocked that axe attack with his abs.
The first time in anime history that a fight did not follow with JAPANESE SCREAM uuuoooaaaaaarrggghhhh...
アニメで起こったこの瞬間が大好きでした!
I love how stark beat his opponent here. If you condition your body enough you can take a hit in order to deliver the killing blow.
When you put all your points on agility, but no strength
Edit: guys i just made a dumb joke. No need to ruin it with facts from the anime
I love that before this fight, Frieren told Fern and Stark that they could handle these two demons on their own. And she's absolutely right!
Would be entertaining if they get to the El Dorado arc
Cant wait for Denken to dunk on Macht
@@madokaP2833 That arc’s going to be great (Also man imagine how pretty it’s going to be once we get to what’s basically a city touched by Midas cuz man that place atta be brimming and the satisfaction when the gold reverts back)
It will have to be for season 2
At the pace we're going we'll get the end of the mage examination arc at the end of this season by episode 28. My real question is what's happening with the OP, it features serie who first appears in the manga toward the end of the exam arc and yet the OP doesn't even show denken whose first appearance is like 15 chapters earlier. I think they're going to move up serie's introduction which is interesting to say the least.
I'm definitely waiting for this to happen
Stark raw power is crazy. He oneshotted her.
To those wondering why he was not cut in half. The demon girl uses weight control on the axe so the swing is not heavy.
He wasn't cut in half because she literally COULDN'T cut through him. His body's so strong that all she could manage with a full power swing was a shallow cut.
@@haydenblazier6751 Yes, she is not that strong. When she's lifting the axe she controls the weight to lightweight and when attacking downwards she sets it to heavy again. so Stark raised his axe so Linie has no choice but to attack his stomach area so she could not take advantage of the heavy weight of the axe.
@bulldogrocks It wasn't because she wasn't strong. She literally destroyed a section of the castle with her attack. It's that she wasn't strong when compared to Stark, who is basically a freak of nature.
@@haydenblazier6751 we sometimes forget that stark literally 1v1'd a dragon
Nah she’s strong but stark body is trained to tank hits, using an axe leave you open, tanks are always heavy hitter and take heavy hits also
damn that lighting strike looks satisfying
I am speechless how this anime have a top animation in non action+action scenes and it seems to be more promising than jjk s2 in animation just mappa didn't do right with jjk otherwise it would be the best out of any anime in animation but frieren is peak. Thanks madhouse for this incredible production.
Finally, non screaming killing blow
Lightning Strike so fast, I didn't see it the first viewing.
Had to rewind.
These fights were not as fancy in the manga, and of course since the "°action" was never the main attractiveness of Frieren.
But now I'm excited to see how they will animate Frieren vs Aura and Frieren's flashback.
Yes! Me too. I teared up when Frieren's mana exploded in black and white print. I can't wait to see it in colored action with music
Stark is a young Godfrey with the delayed axe strike that one shots you.
I can't have enough praise for the fight. It's simple scene, but Stark lightning strike scene is animated with some sense of realism.
The demon girl made a blunder and the reaction are animated too well. We can see how she made heavy step from draw back her axe to try to step back. But because she didn't anticipate such quick movement, it become a dead end for her. Even when the inertia of her body going to back, the quick slash force her to move foward suddenly. Not to mention her face expression after that. 😘
It was beautiful. All the detail makes the fight has some sense of realism there instead of making her just simply wait to be attack or some bs plot armor like she is surprised she can't draw back her axe.
That lightning strike sure was so fast.
I love how the distraction was fatal.
Action is packed and Fern is stacked.
Dope animation fight !😁👍
Fern was cold AF in this scene 😆
Damn, stark tank that shit
Tis but a scratch
Stark can really tank the damage, it's just he's scared at first and it is affecting his mindset.
Stark is FAR stronger than what he normally shows, he could easily reach hero levels of broken if he applied himself but his cowardly mentality really gets in his way
Escanor's moment
She's just too much of a light weight for Stark.
Eisen couldn't have guessed his stance would become poetic someday...
absolutely insane animation
I feel bad for Linie. She had to fight bs Darksouls boss with a stupid amount of health with uninterruptible windups
Uninterruptible and instant windup attacks. If you're too close and he procs that move its a one shot.
Bro was LITERALLY able to swing at supersonic speed
Best show of this season.
the animation is out of this world oO
cant wait for the 1st Class Mage arc.
its not an arc maybe 4 to 5 episodes if it will be animated.
Can see them get these fights out of the way first before the main event that’s coming next episode.
I hope Madhouse continue the S2 of this show.
No wonder why Lügner hates geniuses
my beloved Linie deserved better :'3
"Why was I afraid?" stark probably
I love how there's literally no animation of Starks strike. At all. Just, 1 frame, axe raised, poised to attack; next frame, Linie is already cleaved straight through. Man swings that axe through well over 200 degrees of rotation in less than a frame. I'm sure somebody out there can do the maths on that, taking into account its weight and the impact force it must've had, and get us a good idea of how fast and strong Stark really is.
And he did that after a protracted battle whilst bleeding from multiple wounds that would've probably been fatal to lesser beings. Eisen was right to be scared.
I really can't wait for that "face"
Frieren - the best fighting anime of the season ^^
lugner got the Toji treatment
Such a great fight!
The demon caring for his companion at the end did show that demons somewhat have emotions.
Lol
Also, it was never that demons are incapable of showing emotions, it's that they are incapable of true empathy or friendliness for Humans or other races, or even among themselves.
@@JoshuaDMartiexplained it perfectly
maybe, the demons are prideful, sadistic and arrogant, those are emotions
HOWEVER, even if they can experience happiness, anger, and many other emotions, they do not have the moral compass necessary to work properly in society.
They do not know what guilt, sorrow, or remorse are, they don't understand it.
He was more like surprised Linie lost and his plan involved combination of attack with Linie
It's like losing his soldier or weapon, stop saying BS.
This Episode is a Massive W!!!!
I didn't expect a conclusion on the two fights... well kinda did due to only 24 episodes... but the male demon, I didn't think he die thos episode.
The anime will have 28 eps
Season 2 is gonna cover the best arc in Frieren
