Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I wish pellet manufactures would make an inexpensive swaging mold to fix damaged pellets. Can’t imagine the criticism I opened myself too but that’s the chance one takes on RUclips.
I think he knows what he,s doing I've watched a few videos,, SI is one hell ove a good shot blow the socks off most ove us,, keep up the good work mate
I think for cleaning, moving the pellets to the drainer and then dipping the drainer in soap water many times and then giving the pellets some time under the tap water should keep the damage in minimal. Every move and every touch that the pellets have with each other wears them. I'd also strongly recommend plastic drainer.
If you want to lube the pellets, put them into an oversized plastic container and spray or drip the lube over them. Then SLOWLY tumble them about to get an even coverage on each pellet. I use a hexagonal sided plastic drum, which would hold 1000 pellets to lube 500, the tumbling action evenly covers every part and causes no damage to head or skirt. Great vids, this is NOT a knockdown, (love your films), just a tip from experience. From an NSRA instructor.
The first time I used that pellet lube I dropped it directly onto the pellets, as per the instructions. Got a shock though when one of them "dieseled", obviously with a small drop of lube in the skirt. Now, I smear the lube around the inside of the empty pellet tin before putting the pellets back in.
My method for what its worth: Tip around 100 at a time into small plastic bowl. Add HOT water, plus a shot of hand-wash soap (not washing up liquid, too harsh). Roll slowly for 5 minutes. Rinse twice with COLD water. Tip onto clean cotton cloth. Same process for every 100 or so. Place cloth on radiator for several hours, roll occasionally. Tip 100 or so off cloth into small clean plastic bag. Add 4 drops Napier pellet lube. Roll slowly in bag by hand for 5 minutes. Put in clean tin ready for use. Repeat. Go out and use! Oh, and don't buy cheap pellets!
I have never thought of washing my pellets! What i do, is empty my tin of pellets into an empty coffee jar, (or any jar/container), then put a few drops of, ''Pelgunoil'', into the pellets, shake them up & eh presto!
I wash/dry my pellets the same but I use a zip lock plastic bag and spay one pump on to the pellet’s gently move them around then add another spray and gently move them again , done and more bits of lead come off the pellets stick to the bag sides
You can also use WD40 after washing and drying the pellets. Much cheaper. Don't bath the pellets in WD40 just a light spray and it will go smooth through the barrel.
I always add the pellet lube in a round container, and turn them in that,if you add it straight on the pellet,s it get,s in the skert,s and can cause deicieiling.
You're trading factory ready pellets for now clean but dinged up pellets. Ever put a pellet under a magnifying glass? See all the imperfections? Try that before and after this endeavor. I believe it's a foolish practice.
I agree if nothing else it's definitely going to far for a pellet gun lol. Even if it somehow does improve it it couldn't be much. Also like you said pellets are fragile made of soft lead so the more you rattle them around the more it will damage them and that definitely will decrease accuracy.
my2centz I would decide if they needed cleaning after looking at the inside of the tin after taking the pellets out , and that had a shiny mirror finish ,, wouldn’t be clean inside the tin if the pellets were shit up ,, and also if you look at the video on RUclips with a visit to the factory that makes jsb and other pellets , you will see they wash and carefully inspect the pellets with magnifying glasses before they are packed in the tins ,,, they show you the complete process from raw led to the finished pellets,, 2 large rooms full of woman hand sorting all pellets , interesting,, look it up ,, no need to wash your pellets ,, not quality brands at least. , Shane uk 🇬🇧
Maybe more than the average shooter is watching this clip mate? Like we always say. If your happy with your results as they are then you have no need to change the way you do things. For those who are not then its something to try. Si.
I did this to a tin and I found the skirt filled with water and I had to blow each one out before lubing. I do get some tight grouping even with cheap pellets so it must help. next time i'll wash and let dry for a day or two lol
Hi Si and Davy, I was told many years ago to use a good wax polish on my cleaned pellets for a spring rifle and oil on a pcp, Have you come across this? What about pellet sizers? ever use those?
I think one should try to avoid handling pellets too much. Some pellets are quite thin around the skirts and even gentle handling/washing could warp or bend them. I clean my rifle and that is it.
Hahaha ive got the same tattoo on my finger! What are the odds! Just got a Gamo Swarm Magnum and pulled off an 80 yard shot already so I better do some cleaning to keep up accuracy.
Ronnie Hayes A lubed pellet will travel faster. I have a Benjamin titan in .177 and I use Benjamin hunting hollow point pellets 7.9gr and they are amazing after washed and lubed. Remember was them 3 times and let sit till next day. Wal-Mart sells a lube called Hoppe's gun medic it has a 9 in front of label. Great stuff
Cracking instructual video from an experience shooter. Can I ask what pellet you found best for your HW100? I am very keen to get a scope came to video my shooting, what do you use and where can I get one please?
Question 4 you . I live in Canada as such I got the pellets from Canadian tire it's like wallmart only better. I got 2 barrols in the case the .22 .177 interchangeable barrels. Do you think it's worth washing your Rounds could it be quality of rounds less the residue. They do not sell lead products in Canada for Air Pellets. Thank you for the video sure helps. Take care
had my R10 for 4 years, never cleaned a pellet, never cleaned the gun and if anything, it's more accurate now than it ever was. In a vice it puts pellets on a brass drawing pin at 50 yards with ease every time. .177 that is, using Bisley Magnums. Unfortunately I'm not that accurate haha
Otto Mercer. That's because you know what your doing. The first few pellets will leave a thin graphite coat in the bore. That's a good thing. The graphite won't build up any more. It isn't sticky.
No any air rifle mate. You wouldn't put dirty oil into your car so why would anyone put dirty pellets into their precision air rifles? Any excess lead will in time build up and cause accuracy issues. Si.
Hi there, great video... In your opinion, would you recommend treating polymag pellets using this method or would it ruin the polymer points? Thanks in advance. 👍🏼
Nice video Davy I must admit I have not been doing this lately but I may try it out to see if there is any difference in accuracy in my guns. I used to do this when I used crosman prems as they would always make you filthy =) ATB Malc
I hear the pellets are covered with like......graphite to keep the lead preserved and in good shape. Why would you want to clean all that off? I think too the graphite is a kinda lub. That's where all the black comes from when you clean your barrel.
Afraid I couldn't follow the audio track too well ~ I caught "pellet lube", but did you give a brand name or type? There are many available on the market. I have bought two different types so far: both come in much larger bottles (100ml), costing about GB£7 each. Also, I'm rather concerned about shaking the pellets around so vigorously in the jug and again in the strainer. Happy & safe shooting.
last time i used that napier stuff i think i overlubed them because they were causing dieselling. going to try wd40 next time. great vid davy, but my TOP TIP would be to use an old screw-lid pellet tin, safer than rubberbands lol. also i wash the tin inside aswell whilst im washing the pellets. cheers guys SKoT
Hi guys. I tried washing and lubing my tin of pellets after watching this vid, Before washing my accruacy was about 3/4" at 30yrds with a springer. but after washing the pellets, my shooting all over the place, Any idea where I may have gone wrong? Im using a weihrauch HP57 with rws superdomes. Pellets look in good condition and I had use about 50 before washing, so I know they were shooting OK. All shots were taken at a shooting range
Too much lub I guess , personally when I lub my pellets I don’t pour the oil directly on the pellets but only a few on a towel and then I gently roll my pellets in. A very thin coat will be enough , and could also prevents corrosion if you store them by pouring the oil directly on the pellets , some of the oil will stay inside some pellet skirts and it could results a erratic dieseling effect..
A lot of doubters in the comments. It’s gonna sounds crazy but rattling around some of the cheaper pellets can improve them. If there is a lot of flashing or parting lines, etc. You can knock that stuff down and knock it loose by rattling them around a bit. Probably not great for a tin of JSB but Sometimes makes the cheap stuff shoot better.
Cheers lads thats helpfull. I note that Davey didn't weigh any of the pellets, do you lads not usually bother with the JSB brands as they're quite consistant? I've heard some people use WD40 as pellet lube, is this only suitable in PCP's? ATB
I found this on an airgun sight. ... Avoid WD-40 Okay, them’s fightin’ words! Everybody likes WD-40 for the shine it puts on blued metal and for its pleasant aroma. Yes, that’s all true, but if you allow it to dry on things, it leaves a gummy film that can take weeks of hard work to remove. It has no place in airgunning.
A great tip BUT !!! i have never heared of cleaning pellets. I was always lead to beleive it is best to lead the barrel to improve the guns performance. (I'm quite new to airgunning so its only what i have read).
Porkchop's Papi Good question. But the reason I do it is because I don't want to get lead powder on something i'm eating. Even shooting it in the head I still wash all my pellets. But this process of washing should be done 3 times as residue will still be there with one wash. Some do it for extra performance
PITBULLS ARE AWESOME lube them man. Because your removing the lead powder that cleans your barrel but in time the barrel needs a cleaning to remove all that powder.

its also quite a good idea to wash out your pellet tin, otherwise your putting your nice shiny pellets back in the dirty tin they came from!

great idea first time i did it i was amazed at the residue that came off.great info thanks!

Got a shock though when one of them "dieseled", obviously with a small drop of lube in the skirt. Now, I smear the lube around the inside of the empty pellet tin before putting the pellets back in.
This is the best air gun comedy/parody video I’ve ever seen. 😂
I've never tried washing and lubing pellets, but I shall have to try :D
You can really see the difference before and after. They look shiny after.
longer i know but why don't you wash them in smaller batches surely it would reduce damage to the pellets .

Hi Si and Davy, I was told many years ago to use a good wax polish on my cleaned pellets for a spring rifle and oil on a pcp, Have you come across this? What about pellet sizers? ever use those?
Easy step by step install
Good video!
Both in fact mate.
Accuracy is better for longer.
I've never had the slightest bit of luck doing this. It only killed my guns accuracy and made a mess.
I think one should try to avoid handling pellets too much. Some pellets are quite thin around the skirts and even gentle handling/washing could warp or bend them. I clean my rifle and that is it.

I clean the barrel not the ammo.... that goes for all my guns. Lol
My own Experience was, u dont damage the pellets when washing them. they are still round. except for very Soft ones with thin "chalice"
You don't necessarily need pellet lube just use a small amount of WD-40 works just fine .😎😎
I never clean my pellets but I'm going to try it and see if it helps out the grouping and how my ( showstopper .177 cal air rifle does )
Ronnie Hayes A lubed pellet will travel faster. I have a Benjamin titan in .177 and I use Benjamin hunting hollow point pellets 7.9gr and they are amazing after washed and lubed. Did you clean the tin ?
Have you ever considered using molly to coat your pellets?
The lube could end up causing Dieseling which gives a large bonus to power but could damage your air gun.
greenspiraldragon Try non dieseling silicon lubricant. 6 or 7 drops into a full tin and slowly rotate to evenly coat all the pellets
Don't add lube while they are on the towel. The towel ends up soaking up all the oil.
Best to add lube with the pellets in a plastic sandwich bag.
Thank you. I should've been more specific. Is the lubing part more for PCP's?
Cracking instructual video from an experience shooter. Can I ask what pellet you found best for your HW100? I am very keen to get a scope came to video my shooting, what do you use and where can I get one please?

If you have one ,its a lot easier if you put them in the dehydrator for 2 hr. @ 125
do you dehydrate food in the same dehydrator you use for your pellets? if so, can i dry my wet socks too? and then my carrots and pineapple?

Would mineral oil be a good pellet lube?
don't you think all those steps will damage the pellet skirts?
Can you lube the barrel inside and it will do the job? Thx
lubing decreases velocity by 15-20fps. the famous pellets for their accuracy are now prelubed.
Nice video Davy
I must admit I have not been doing this lately but I may try it out to see if there is any difference in accuracy in my guns. I used to do this when I used crosman prems as they would always make you filthy =)

Could you just use regular chamber lube? I cant seem to find any lube made specially for pellets

I meant to say graphite, not carbon.

will it be fine to use wd40 to lube the pellets??? here in venezuela are not many gun stores so... that's what I have...
a paintbrush would have been a more effective tool for applicating the lube.
