Just to let you that I watched this video many moons ago, and followed your procedure, Months after that a friend of mine was having a rodent problem so I brought my Gamo and a collection of pellets both washed and untouched, I told him what I had done and him having previous experience gained at Fort Bannin Ga. went ahead and personalized the rifle to his specification both scope and open sights. He was very impressed how accurate the washed and lubricated pellets performed, but was very impressed when zerod in on a moving rodent (about 55' away 40' above ground) and fliped it over while crossing a power line. I now do this procedure with all pellets and BB's and great results are obtained. Thank you very much.

You should add water first and then put the pellets inside to avoid any bending from the fall without water since they are lead and bend easy. Good video and thank you for taking your time.

Yes I know what you mean mate.
Ive since started using Napier Power Lube myself.
After watching your clip this morning it inspired me to prepare 1000 H and N pellets myself ready for the next HFT comp that i am shooting in this Sunday.
I also cleaned by barrel and re leaded it with around 30 pellets with the new washed and lubed pellets.
I'm going to chrono the rifle with the Power Lubed pellets tomorrow and re calibrate it ready for Sunday.
    Si.

Alcohol rinse removes much more without beating the skirts into gaterskin! I roll my pellets on clean cotton sheet material. Then I dry. I then put a coating of pellet lube on a clean cloth. I roll gently to coat pellets.I warm dry and seal pellets in marked tin.

Thank you for the nice and helpful video. To colaborate with you , I advise you to let the pelets on the hot water for 5 minutes to let the detergent work time enables all surface of the pelet-if you shake it 3 times durnng this 5 minutes it will let it be more efficient - This procedure is done on lab flasks that you don't reach the corners to rub it. Also use always neutral detergents on a base of 1 to 2%. Anything more will not have no advantages - only loose money and poluition . Finnaly , working this way probably you will need only one time clean for the whole process.Best regards Helio

Excellent video MrSpiker357. I am about to buy a brand new .177 HW100 and was wondering about pellet wash and lubing.I want to look after my new barrel and achieve the best accuracy that i can. I can understand washing the pellets to remove the lead dust but i cant really understand why oil is needed to be added to the pellet. Surely oil in the barrel will attract dirt, dust and eventually lead to barrel fouling. Also, how many pellets will it take before my rifles barrel will need cleaning ?

And they are also covered with a kind of dry graphite lubricant!, usually I lubricate with napier, or dry pellet lubricants like LT1 or PL1 or even kolter speed shot. But with h&n I'm hesitant, if the manufacturer chose this lubricant it must be good, right?

great video. lots of great tips. BTW, not trying to be too picky, but i noticed that you 1. used a strainer marked "do not use with food"; 2. used nitrile gloves; 3. used a dedicated glass container for washing the pellets; and 4. gave many (good) warnings about the use of lead. however, i couldn't help but notice that you repeatedly dumped the waste water down the kitchen sink. can i assume that this sink is NOT where you wash your dishes and clean your food, but is a work room sink in your shop? 'cuz if not, all those lead particles could easily be lining the sink's surface and transferred over to your dishes &/or food.

    • @ee222

thanks for the reply. i realize that its been about 2 years since we did the above posts. i'm not sure why it didn't click with me back then, and i certainly don't want to dwell on the "evils of the lead monster", but re-reading both my post and your response just caused me to wonder something. as you stated above, "... When you consume lead, your stomach acid (HCl) causes a severe change in pH and subsequent chemical reaction, and then the harmful effects can occur. So, keep lead out of your mouth ..." this is why i made my initial post, because if the sink that you used in your video is the one that you use to clean your dishes &/or use for food prep, then it's highly likely that one is creating the conditions that would, in fact, cause one to violate the very warning that you mention as lead would be introduced into your mouth via eating utensils and food coming into contact with the lead residue in your sink whenever you wash dishes &/or wash fruits/veggies in that very sink. again, not trying to be a PITA, it's just something that i'm wondering about whenever i watch the above video.

    MrSpiker,
Thanks for the video! Just some random thoughts...the poster 'Amelie' is correct in that trichloroethylene was formerly a substitute for ether, and is still used for making decaf coffee. What might be better, try a first wash of denatured alcohol or acetone, followed by the 2nd wash of soap and water (or vice-versa). Acetone in particular is a great degreaser, and will naturally evaporate (do this outside). As for the hair dryer, I would worry about the heat warping the skirts, unless you have an 'air only' setting.

It's carbon dust and not lead. It's to keep the pellets from turning white from oxidation. The carbon does not hurt the gun or effect it in any way. If your hands turn black just wash your hands after your done. No big deal.

I've done this for years and have always used WD40, as you say, I only use one short squirt then I dab them with kitchen paper to remove excess oil and let it dry for while. wd40 has a lot of silicone in it. I use on my spring gamo and my gas ram Weihrauch hw90. I have never suffered dieseling. Usually gain around 20 feet per sec muzzle velocity so if in the uk don't forget to chronograph to make sure your legal. It's definitely worth it as eliminates those fliers.

I gave it a try and I'm converted!
I'd been having some issues with one of my CO2 pistols. The pellets that I'd been using since purchasing this pistol were starting to misfire and jam. I washed, dried and lubricated some of the pellets and immediately noticed they load in the magazines much better, the jamming issue has virtually stopped, and my bullseye groups are even better than normal!
I think it must have been a dirty batch of pellets (I normally buy tins of 500 in multiples of 10). So I've a few to get through!

@@ykzcohan WD-40 is a specific formula for a water-displacing spray that also acts as a very popular lubricant/penetrating oil. When most people say WD-40 they are talking about this specific product, and this is generally understood by everyone. However, you are correct that the company has since changed it's name to reflect this flagship product of theirs...but it's probably not really pertinent to go around correcting people about it. After all the rattle and banging together the pellets will be worse I should think. An ultrasonic tank would be a better choice. If accuracy is so critical the pellet weight is more important. Inspect every one also for damage then oil them. Also use a pellet pouch when in the field as tins and pockets are noisy/ contaminated and cause more damage. Happy shooting

That's why when I clean my black powder gun all metal parts go in the oven and when it cools down then I oil everything.

Nice thoughtful video. I have 2500 very old (10 years +) pellets and was thinking of polishing the oxidization off in a tumbler.
Then using a very thin, hot paraffin wax to prevent further oxidization. I'll have to be careful to get very thin coating otherwise pellet balance maybe affected.

to each their own...I shoot them right from the container and never a problem.. Maybe those one in ten flyers are from not doing this extensive cleanng and lubing?? Maybe I will try this once to see if there is a dramatic difference in accuracy..I am a dead on shooter and at 67 years of age I can shoot one hole groups at distances to 75 yards.. No brag .. just fact.

What about lead in your drinking water and food prep area?
Seems like a bad idea. When you use gloves but carelessly pollute.
Love to see the science behind this.....

Science is he ate lead paint as a child and that kept his IQ in the single digits.
He never told his wifey about the leaded coffee pot either

Here's the wikipedia link: look for Tipp-Ex on wikipedia
It's the thinner for it and the main ingredient is: look for 1,1,1-Trichloroethane on wikipedia

Your jar needs acetone with some Napier solution, then the pellets will have an even coating.
A small tea strainer would be used when poured into another jar.
Of course why use water and detergent, when acetone would work better.
