  • Building a new lead lined pellet trap for the channel. this one will be used for the shorter ranges. the a4 pellet trap i already have will be used for the longer range targets
    its made from some offcuts of scrap coated birch ply and this new version has removeable legs so it can stand in landscape or portrait.
    i have a selection of new target cards to give some continuity for testing going forward on the channel including some really nice benchrest cards. hopefully they will look good on film

    Now I know why I've been storing the old baking trays and some old lead roof!!! I knew I had a reason, thanks for solving that conundrum! Nice design which has given me ideas. Cheers.

    Great idea,people should be warned that pouring lead when even droplets of water are present,the lead will explode and fly in all directions.

    Just use a rubbermaid office-sized trash can filled with rubber mulch.
    Periodically wrap it with shrink wrap and switch sides to preserve the structural integrity of the trash can.
    I have shot over 4,000 rounds into mine and had zero problems. (.22 cal, ~800 fps)
    The mulch is made from chunks of recycled tires and will never wear out.

    Proper job. Re targets, they all look good, but I think the black/yellow will show pellet holes least well. Also, anything with a black bull is just less repeatable and consistency is one of your (and all rifle shooters) themes. Looking forward to the weather improving!

      Hi mate, im inclined to agree with the yellow. Tbh I got those ones for a funky thumbnail but I will try them all out and see what I find suits me best for consistency. I may end up getting some of my own design printed eventually.

    Looking forward to seeing your review of the the AA xti. watched a review on it last night, beautiful rifle , love the in-built hamster design, accuracy wasn't shown as anything outstanding but I'm sure you'll show it off at its best. Enjoyed this video by the way, I always like to see the build video's 👍🏻

    Great review good job, I made something very similar a pellet catcher
    Had to go back to the drawing board. 60yarder the ply was getting damaged with flyers lol 😆 scoping in. so i screwed 2mm steel plate to the ply 15 months later still good 👍

      I'll usually run a shot or 2 off just to check I'm somewhere on the card before getting too stuck in. It's annoying shooting the holder up 😆
      I've got a load of ali sheet to turn into some much more substantial versions eventually. Tbh I just enjoy making stuff as much as using it..

    Well done, one of the best I've seen, I will substitute the lead back for a thick hanging towel, as to stop the bb's without damaging them so I can reuse them.
    As far as the targets, a circle is a circle, obviously the bright yellow ones show up better, for the shooter and the viewer, cheers m8. 🎯♥

      When I'm dealing with very small windage corrections, some targets I find are really hard to judge. Almost disorientating to some extent.
      I've found a particular style of target that really suits me and the shooting I'm doing on the channel. Will be subject of a video as it's pretty interesting 😉

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  Год назад +2

      Agreed.. I like the lead traps as its great being able to see the pellets stuck into it, sometimes the cards get torn up a bit and don't give a true reflection of the groups and being able to glsee them in the lead is very cool
      Plus I like melting it all down, I want to turn some recycled h&n pellets into fishing lures eventually 😆

    NOTE -- The pellet resistance/durability of the trap is GREATLY IMPROVED by the containing sheet pan backing the lead plate as a pellet stop. If you do as I did and assume that 1/4" of sheet lead would be sufficient by itself....well it gets eaten up with the high power stuff. 1/2" (maybe 3/8") thick for free hung lead plates.

  • @NoirCordis
    @NoirCordis Год назад

    Careful - that benchrest target will be the slippy slope for you. We started a 25 yard outdoor Benchrest at the club - shoot 3 cards of 8 targets - best 2 cards score. Made a few folk realise hitting even a 15mm reducer HFT/FT target is very different to obliterating 2mm circles and doing it 16 times .. it has fast become very serious :) Great pellet trap

      The @airability lot will be laughing at my poor br efforts 😂
      I'm tempted to get some printed double the size for 50yds and no wind flags other than maybe a windicator..
      Currently I'm really back in love with the sport and pushing myself again. Not at the level I was a few years back but its coming around pretty quick.
      I dont really feel the urge for competition anymore. Filming on the channel is enough for me right now 😀

      Hi mate as soon as the weather breaks I'll be out testing the targets. I have a feeling that I'm going to be more consistent with a smaller bull. Maybe I'll end up getting some of my own design printed eventually. It's surprising how the shape/size of a target can affect our consistency. Definitely worthy of a video

    Surprised you've not used NSRA 1989 Pattern 2510 BR15 - 18 Targets for 25 yards, and NSRA Pattern 50M10BR17 - 18 Targets for 50 metres, and tried 1001 BR15 - 18 McQueen Targets for 100 yards.
    Since they would give you a recognised standard for accuracy.
    Mind you, I also use 14cm 10m Air Rifle Targets, and 6 yard Bell Targets as well, but only with 5 ft/lbs.

      Screwed it to an EU pallet and used 45x145 lumber as a frame/stray pellet catcher. Love your idea with trays n magnets.

      The spinner would need to be quite light for a sub 12 pellet strike to spin it.
