STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Was NOT What I Expected
#clonewars #starwars #alexhefner
The fact that Dee Bradley Baker voices every single clone, and yet some people can tell one clone's voice from another is a testimony of how amazing his voice acting chops are.
I’ve honestly got such horrible auditory processing that I can only kinda tell the bad batch apart from their voices 😭
Gregor's voice is easy to guess 😂
@@dibsdibs3495how?? They sound so different
@@VenatorPaleo Idk why lol. I’ve got adhd and have read that you can have auditory processing issues from that. I passed my music class in high school by 1% because there were a few tests that involved listening and identifying some stuff and I just failed it miserably. The bad batch’s voices are pretty distinguishable tho. The rest of the clones are the same.
He really is the GOAT in this series, and you're right; Fives, Rex, Wolffe, Hardcase, Oddball, etc. etc. they all sound unique within the context of them being clones, he really gave them that little bit of personality that distinguishes them from each other despite being identical.
Your editor is a freaking hero for laying out that timeline for you. One of the things you never realize if you watch the show in release order is that it actually skips around the timeline quite a bit. The watch order your editor has you on will make things that much clearer and more meaningful. Great job!
the editer copied and pasted it from google
I love that he added. The editors funny 😂
@@captaintraitor9560 yea is so good to let the ediders have fun
Yep, the 1st time I watched it (about when Disney acquired Star Wars because I thought it was for kids) was in order and I was really confused when dead characters came back to life
Wish there was an option on Disney+ to put them in this order!!!
Hey Guys! Editor here, hope you guys are ready for this journey! For some quick context, Alex will be watching this in chronological order like many of you suggested, and for the video structure we're gonna aim to do anywhere from 4-6 episodes per video, so that we don't bombard you with 150+ videos lol.
So I hope you guys enjoy the reaction and I hope you enjoyed the edit. If you can tell I was a little out for blood on this one with the editor's notes 😈
Much love!
You’re a real one for this info . Thank you kind human
There was 2 episodes that happened before this movie, season 2 episode 16 and season 1 episode 16 why didn’t he watch them before this. Or he did but he just didn’t react to them in the channel (which is fine).
This made me very happy
@@laurijaakkola3762 this video has the two episodes in it and then the movie!
@@laurijaakkola3762 I think he did and we are about to see them. I think he’ll watch those first and then the movie in this video.
Ah Anakin and Obi-wan, casually committing War Crimes throughout the entire Clone Wars
They're only war crimes in our galaxy, not the one Far, Far away ;)
Geneva suggestions
Its not a war crime the first time!

George Lucas believed in this story and show so much that when Cartoon Network said the show was too expensive, he *paid for many of the episodes himself at around one million bucks per episode. And Lucas would host writers conferences at Skywalker Ranch as they brainstormed the series.
Paid*
@@stnarud Correct. Apple has shit auto-“correct.” 🙄
That’s incredible. I didn’t know that
That's incredible. And I'm sure this show was crazy expensive to make, they were one of the first teams to pull off a 3D project like this for an ongoing show.
As much as the first season is a little rough, the improvement as the seasons go on is insane.
Honestly, respect. Because the series is great, it was worth it.
the fact that its animated allows them to show star wars how they want to instead of being limited by the limits of humans in the forms of actors. they can do thousand foot jumps with the force and make any ship, planet, or alien they want
Which makes it better to see how the wars across different planets played out without keeping using same locations on Earth.
In other terms : « the flesh is weak. »
But I assume he means like they did for lord of the rings where it’s literally just a really expensive irl show which I would definitely choose
@@kelpermoon23 RoP has nothing to do with LotR. So there is no expensive LotR show irl. I choose something like Clone Wars for LotR any day before they try to shove a live-action show down my throat without a soul and not a fracture of the passion Peter Jackson had.
@@raydafuq3570 I was thinking of the peter Jackson films
What is the story behind the pink R2-D2?
“Albin Johnson, who founded the 501 legion (the largest association of Star Wars fans) learned in 2004 that his daughter, Katie, had an inoperable brain tumor. He decided to build an R2 unit, in his daughter's favorite color: pink. The droid R2-KT accompanied Katie until 2005, when she died at the age of only 7 years.
Wow, I didn't know that. Sad story to hear, but thanks
The 501st Legion is a Star Wars costume organization. We are all volunteers who create and wear movie accurate costumes that we use to raise money for charity, visit children in the hospital, and put smiles on people’s faces. It was founded in 1997 and consists of all the bad guys of the Star Wars universe. The Rebel Legion is the sister group of the 501st with all the good guys. There is a chapter that covers every state and around 70 countries world wide. As a nod to the group’s contributions, LucasFilm put R2-KT in the clone wars as well as in The Force Awakens. Also, the group of clones that march on the Jedi temple with Darth Vader in Episode 3 is called The 501st Legion.
Damn that’s such a young age to die. I feel so bad for her and her family. I hope she’s happy and in peace wherever she is. That’s a really cute cameo of her astromech to be in the show to remember her.
Yeah, that was a sad time. I volunteered for SW Celebration IV with the 501st. They had the nearly completed R2-KT there. Even though Stormtroopers can't aim, man they could give a Vogon some competiton when it comes to paperwork. 🤣😄
I actually have one still in the package. It's a tough story but also something really nice about it.
Ah yes, the clone wars series. The greatest display of war crimes in children's cartoon history.
Loved every fucking second of it.
The war crimes were half the fun.
Also a few su*c*de scenes too…
"Is this the right order to watch this? Threw me in the middle of a battle, go" well, pretty much how every movie starts 😂
My gut instinct was to go "That's so true!" until I thought about it. There's actually only 2 that start off already in the middle of a battle (I can't for the life of me remember how ep 8 or 9 start so maybe more) but for some reason it feels like it's more common right?
i think he was refering to that he starts witha episode from season 2, then jumps to a season of the end in season 1 - dont think the "space battle start" is a issue
@@CandleLight129 8 definitely does because it sets the stage for the film. I think 9 starts in the middle of some action, but not a battle, if I'm remembering correctly (or it starts briefly with an individual from the other side - to avoid character names).
It makes my soul happy everytime 3PO comes on the screen the first time and Alex gets a huge smile on his face and says “GOLDMAN!!”
The reason they don't use the Force constantly is that it's a muscle. If you use the same muscle constantly and never give it a rest, you'll actually hurt yourself. Using the Force also requires focus and concentration, which is harder to do in the middle of a battle. So most Force users use the Force sparringly, timing their actions.
There's also the fact that all Force users have a reserve of Force energy, which will drain, and it takes time to replenish. And while some abilities take only a little, so you can use it often, others take up a lot of power and leave you feeling exhausted.
Basically like SP/Mana in some Games
Then there's Star Killer
Then there's Anakin
Anakin and Ahsoka have the best brother-sister dynamic I've seen in a show. You can tell they care for each other and thrive off the bantering.
49:17 Well Jazz doesn't exist in the Star Wars universe. The Jazz-like music they play in places like the Mos Eisley cantina in A New Hope on Tatooine is actually space Jazz that George Lucas came up with a creative a non-controversial name for.
It's called Jizz.
Came here to say this. Was not disappointed. LOL Alex, you need to comment on this. 😂
Jizz is the best
So, what do you call it when you play that music really, really loud?
Why would you tell him this
Disney did actually change this in canon to be called "Jatz". I can understand why they did it, but it's a bit silly and people are still upset about it.
So fun fact! The pink Astromech with R2 is designated R2-KT, KT or “Katie” for short! She’s named after a girl who had brain cancer. She was created to be human Katie’s companion while she went through her treatments and they made a website about her for spreading awareness of pediatric illnesses.
Not sure you know what the word "fun" is...
Ahsoka is a fourteen-year-old alien. The species is Togruta and the thing on her head are called montrals (horn-like sensory organs)
A bit too horn-y for Alex then 😂
I always forget the difference. Are they lekku or montrals?
@@melanithebooknerd Montrals but look like horns to me
@@melanithebooknerd both, the tails part is lekku and the horns part that sticks up is montrals. twilek only have lekku, togruta have both lekku and montrals.
the horns are montrals the dangling bits are lekku
The order you’re watching is the chronological order, when the show originally aired the story jumped from one point to another like a Quentin Tarantino movie. Especially in the first couple of seasons, the first episode takes place about halfway through the series if I’m remembering right.
The reason for the wacky order is simple. The show when it first came out was each episode was random adventures, eventually they circled back to them to add more, so they weren't in order lol.
I am so glad that he is doing them in chronological order and not the order that the streaming services have them in. It makes the series flow so much better
Alex really earning that mustache when Asoka shows up. 😂😅😭💀
Ah yes the infamous pedo stash😂
49:10 idk why but Palpatine saying The Huts are "vile gangsters" is so funny to me
This is where the fun begins!
Beat me to it

How How HOW
Let's all take a moment to of silence to appreciate the great editor who has sacrificed so much to place Alex on his grand journey! Love the editor's notes!!
"Why am I staring at a computer-generated ass?"
-Alex Hefner, 2023, watching Ready Player One
Ok unironically, “monkey bot” actually sounds like something the clones would name tactical droids. Like how they call normal battle droids “clankers”
Alex watching Clone Wars, looking at Clone Troopers - "You all look kind of same"
As well as calling them robots when one calls out for a medic.
He literally has low IQ.
Right like have you not seen Attack of the Clones when it set them up being Jango clones?
In his defense, he spent a large percentage of the movies making sex jokes instead of paying attention to anything.
@@cbfwebs I just found it to be a moment of beautiful density.
Ahsoka and Anakin are made for each other, they're two sides of the same lightsaber.
I myself never would have imagined that Ahsoka Tano would end up being my favorite character of all of Star Wars....And it all started here.
I thought she brought a breath of fresh air from the beginning. Also, the younger audience uses her as a point of connection/viewpoint.
Then she got a lot better (after her low point of [spoiler/redacted] moment.)
I love the chemistry between Alex and his editor please keep this as a tradition🤣
31:40 Ahsoka’s theme! Absolutely iconic. It starts out as a smooth flute, and it increases heavily as time goes on, like her character progression
39:21 Her theme again! Yes, I love pointing it out. Keep an eye out for it, Hefner. Once you learn it, there’s no unhearing it
“I want R rated Star Wars” it sounds like you want X rated Star Wars 😭
Star wh0r3s, or p0rnstar wars.
As the audience that watched the show got older and more mature, so did the series and even Ahsoka herself. 💚 💛
Season 5 is the darkest yet best season of the show
24:15 If I remember correctly, in the Ahsoka book, the author wrote a short two page retelling of the scene before Ahsoka arrives in the movie. In it Anakin is thinking about how he doesn’t want Obi-Wan to get a new padawan because he doesn’t want their dynamic to change. So, in essence, before Ahsoka tells him that he has to teach her, Anakin is basically standing there, in the corner, glaring at the new kid, because he won’t get to be Obi-Wan’s main problem child anymore…
In regards to Ahsoka’s backstory, I think ep. 1 of Tales of the Jedi is safe, but only that one! I think ep. 2,3 and 4 are also okay, but they are Dooku focused…
Ventress is a sith _assassin,_ but that’s more of a servant position. Sidious and Dooku are Sith Lords, of which there can only be two. As long as neither is teaching her as an apprentice, it’s all good. She was introduced in the 2D micro series, and this show was initially made as a sort of follow up, which is why the characters already know her. This is why I advocate watching the 2D one first, even tho it’s not canon anymore. Also it has really cool action
dooku is teaching her as an apprentice, that's why palps gets mad and we get savage opress ark
@@The-Like-Buttonalex just started, why would i tell him later info?
Technically the rule of 2 can be broken, there is no way to enforce it. Sidious himself broke it before lol.
I still don't understand why Disney excluded the micro series from the canon, when it's essentially the pilot for the CG series.
There can be as many Sith lords as writers want. It was only Darth Bane who made up the Rule of Two, and once he was dead subsequent Sith (through Star Wars writers) could have changed the rule. It worked for Lucas when he was in control of Star Wars, and was continued because it was kept canon through Sidious/Vader, but really...why would an independent-minded Sith continue to follow a rule a dead Sith made up? It's not the strongest plot detail. I liked the Old Republic/Sith Empire system better, where there were thousands of Sith like there were thousands of Jedi.
I’m so excited to see his reaction to arcs like Umbara, Mortis, The Citadel, and especially the Siege of Mandalore.
New drinking game for this series: drink every time Alex makes an inappropriate joke about Ahsoka
33:05 sad story behind that pink droid. Its name is R2-KT, and it's based on a real life pink R2 droid of the same name that was built for a girl named Katie Johnson to stay by her bedside until she passed away from brain cancer. After that, the droid has been taken to all sorts of events, charities and children hospitals to spread awareness.
Alex technically they are using the force the whole time. They use the force for their senses which is why Jedi's are extremely hard to kill with blaster fire. Using the force to move objects requires a certain amount of concentration which can't be constantly kept up in battle while simultaneously using force senses to not get shot.
Yes what Old Man Kenobi was teaching Luke with the blaster shield down on the pilot helmet on the Millennium Falcon in A New Hope. Predictive defensive moves with the lightsaber to deflect blaster fire using The Force. Edit: Also how Jedi & Sith block lightsaber attacks in lightsaber duels.
Honestly the droids voices really grew on me as a kid, and now as a 21 year old who still watches this show I honestly cannot get enough of them! Or the rest of the voice cast!! Brilliant lot
The Clone Wars Movie was the first SW movie i saw in theaters. When Ashoka was introduced she was hated but has become a fan favorite.
Two non spoilery trivia: Ashoka was around 14 years old in the movie, shows how young she really is. Ashoka holding her lightsaber in a reverse grip is uncommon but it's part of her lightsaber form/technique.
Yes, but I think that she is changing her lightsaber technique from season to season.
@@CptRedexCC--Less changed and more evolved. I like her dual Shein style but the reverse grip is terribly ineffective in a real fight. When she is in serious danger she switches to an orthodox style. Even Starkiller switched grips between attacks.
I also love that both she and Starkiller use the reverse grip. I know The Force Unleashed is no longer canon and there was never an intended link in their fighting styles, but the coincidence made for some fun implications about how Anakin/Vader trained his apprentices.
Force unleashed will always be canon, fuck Disney arbitrarily deciding many of the officially licensed (under Lucas Films) games suddenly are not canon like old republic. The games added so much info/context to previously entirely unexplained/explored lore. I can't "unknow" things. Don't those jerks get away with it, they don't even know what they have.@@CandleLight129
It was bullshit how she was hated. Those people are mindless, one dimensional imbeciles. She was a bubbly kid who wanted to prove herself, and got ahead of herself then learned lessons the hard way and showed how reflective she was.
Team Padme! Also Alex yes there is a an entire Star Wars area in Disneyland where you can have a whole Star Wars experience. You can even build your own R2D2 and lightsaber. It’s a really fun place in the park and you can see familiar tracks in the sand.
A universal studios themed star wars starship battle ride would unironically be so fun.
Anakin wasn't taking baby Hutts temperature ...he was using the force to "feel" its sickness
Which is still odd as you cant use the force through a robot hand...hence why Vader can't use force lightning. Though he could do the force choke still? Idk.
@ItApproaches using his robot arm for him is more about focusing rather then using the force through it.
@@prestonturner610Hm.
@@ItApproaches The reason why Vader couldn't use force lightning is that it would damage his suit, which is keeping him alive. All part of Palpatine's plan.
@@apuji7555 Yes I heard that, but why not use force lightning against Obi-Wan before he had his suit?
You just have to love how Alex insults nearly every single alien for looking like an alien
Being 4 years old when the original movie came out meant that I adored Ahsoka and had the chance to grow up with her! She will always be one of my absolute favorites
Fair man I was 8 when the show first aired and watch this shit to it’s completion.
You don’t understand the amount of joy I had when they announced season 7 😂😂😂
I would’ve been 11 when the movie came out & my bro was 8, we both LOVE Ahsoka.
It's so funny that Anakin didn't want a padawan at first. When you watch the TV series, he loves her dearly as the seasons go on.
Prolonged use of the Force can be physically draining, that's why they don't use it as often as you might think they would and also Obi-Wan and Anakin are Jedi guardians(blue lightsaber), Jedi who focus more on the warrior aspect of being a Jedi and use physical force to protect the innocent. The Jedi who typically use the Force more than their lightsaber are Jedi councilors, the ones with green lightsabers, their focus within the Jedi order is to gain a better understanding and knowledge of the Force as a whole.
Exactly, using the Force isn't effortless. It takes energy, focus, and concentration just like anything else.
Correction: Consulars. Councilors are Masters who sit on the Jedi Councils.
I would like to see some stuff from the Clone Wars in live action but as like, flashbacks. The fact that the whole show is animated allows for so much more creative freedom than live action would. Plus by season 4 it's absolutely GORGEOUS.
“I thought the animation was gonna be bs, but it’s actually pretty good!” And it only gets better!
The Clone Wars has the same problem that a lot of other multi-season shows have. It has a strong start, but gets so much better later on that people forget what got them into the series in the first place. They start saying stuff like, "Just wait until it gets really good," even though the early episodes are already pretty good and only seem bad in comparison to the later episodes.
If I remember correctly, the show was supposed to come across like found-footage/WW2 cinema news reels the audience would find if they were living in a post-Return of the Jedi era. Just like there was a bunch of mystery for Luke and Leia around what the "Clone Wars" that Obi Wan mentioned in A New Hope were, the audience was kept in the dark about what George Lucas had planned for them. One of the few rules Lucas had for authors writing Star Wars books in the 90s and early 00s was that they were not allowed to touch the Clone Wars era. The show's release schedule is supposed to unfold it's mysteries in pieces as you went from episode to episode. Them being released out of order in the timeline is like a citizen of the New Republic finding files that eventually put the whole puzzle together.
35:07 YES, check out Tales of the Jedi! Though they are quite short, you do get an origin story to Ahsoka in her arc in that series
You will LOVE where this series goes!! Especially when you get to the final season, the stories youll see, the characters youll meet & love its SO good! Some of the best Star Wars content youll see

TLDR: W EDITOR
There are so many great voice actors in this show. This stuff is Star Wars Gold. I’ve never met anyone who dislikes the show. It will be fun watching you watch the journey that takes place in this show. It expanded the Star Wars universe in a way that saved the franchise from fizzling out after the prequels.
As an avid clone wars fan, your genuine enjoyment was amazing and those editor notes had me dead omw
At this point Anakin is no longer a Padawan and has been Promoted to a Full Jedi Knight, there are episodes of the clone wars with a different Art style showing the beginning of the war. Anakin has his short Padawan hair with the Apprentice Braid which Yoda eventually cuts off with his lightsaber Promoting him to Knight
Right in the Knighthood ritual ceremony.
"As a Jedi, we were trained to be keepers of the peace, not soldiers. But all I've been since I was a Padawan is a soldier." - Ahsoka at the end of the clone wars, how much she had changed from the start ...

Ahsoka is 14 during the Clone Wars movie and is 17 at the end of the Clone Wars TV show
My boyfriend and I JUST finished the Clone Wars series LAST NIGHT (him for the thousandth time and me for the first), your timing is impeccable! I'm a fairly new viewer, but I'm already getting through your harry potter, star wars, and marvel journeys and LOVING IT ALL. You have great reactions that are pretty similar to mine and are watching a mix of things I've seen and things I (embarrassingly) haven't. Can't wait to watch along with this now too!
I cant wait for alex to see Ahsoka in the last few seasons, lester dupree will really make an appearance
The funny thing about Wulff Yularen, the officer with the mustache, is that he was in the original 1977 movie. He's in the conference room of the Death Star. He's wearing a white uniform.
Yeah don't worry Alex, the entire show gets so much better, not that it isn't good now, but you get really deep into the minds and psychology of the clones as well as see their bonds with the Jedi
FYI: Jedi training usually goes as follows...
1. Force sensitive child is born.
2. Medical testing or demonstrated abilities gets. The child reported to the jedi while they are still usually an infant.
3. Toddlers infants and children (under 8-10) are taken to Jedi Temples and designated Younglings
4. Younglings are trained in residence by the temple until they are selected for further Jedi Padawan training 1 on 1 with a Jedi Knight/Master or reassignment ( Of Younglings not capable of being jedi) to the Jedi service corps (Agriculture, Exploration, Medical, Logistics ) That testing and selection has to happen before they turn 14.
5.Padawans Train in the field with their instructor until they pass the trials to become Knights.
6. Once a Knight has completed the training of a Padawan to Knighthood they are Acknowledged as a Master.
7. Usually Masters, but occasionally Knights are then also selected to serve on the Jedi Council.
8. The senior member of the jedi council is the grand master.
Ahsoka was previously Plo Koon's Padawan, and transferred.
One of the best shows I've ever watched. Started watching it back when it came out. I was sad to see it end, but it's still one of my favorites.
The droid voice your are looking for is that of the B2 super battle droid. The B1 is the main stay off the separatist army because they are dirt cheap to make. It is the tactical droids (or the monkey droids as you call them) have have the intelligence to direct the lower droids
Those things on Ahsokas head are Lekku (headtails)
And Montrals (the horns - they function like ears)
Your editor is incredible. One of the few reaction channels I can watch while getting the reaction and enough information from the show to understand what you're reacting to. Bravo fr
So glad you have your editor to guide you through the insane order to watch this series hahaha they really went back and forth with the arcs
I do prefer the animation rather than live action, not only is it cool looking, but it also allows the series to show stuff that might have been difficult to do live action.
Ahsoka was soooo hated in the beginning but that was the way they designed her. As time goes on, you get to see her arc maturing to the point she becomes one of the most loved characters. I always loved the dynamic between her character and Anakin.
Begun, the War Crimes have. 2 I counted are “taking war trophies” (droid fingers) and “false surrender” (Obi-Wan stalling for the shield to be taken down). Will make for a better drinking game.
The Clone Wars series is an anthology show, it was made out of chronological order for a while. But the plus is you don’t follow the same characters for every episode, you get breaks to showcase other people - and some of the best episodes are clone-centric or villain ones.
In tales of the Jedi you get a small Asoka story
Your editor set you up with the chronological order of the Clone Wars. It’s the recommended way to watch it. I am in season 5 myself, having not taken the time until now.
38:00 He's not checking its temperature, he sensed its health through the Force. And the hand motion is mostly a psychosomatic prop, not actually a requirement for what he's doing (i.e. that it's a droid hand is mostly irrelevant).
7:22 the fact that he narrates this show 😂
I was nervous when u said u were gonna watch the clone wars because the first few seasons can be a bit corny and look bad but I'm so happy your enjoying it cant wait to watch your clone wars journey
Personally. I love the unique artstyle the Animation has. Animation allows for a lot more sci-fi elements and action, like "force jumps" in live action are barely used, but are you'll see are common throughout The Clone Wars. And wait till you get to Bad Batch where the animation style and cinematography is at it's peak!
„You‘re stuck in me skyguy“ xD
I love how Alex is struggling because he's so wants to make jokes about Ahsoka but he doesn't know if it's appropriate and you can tell that it's killing him because that's what good comedians do they joke about everything
Pedophile energy is not funny.
So happy you’re giving this a shot. Story, animation, characters, drastically improve over the seasons. You will be thoroughly surprised!
Been watching for at least a year, first ever comment!
I know you’ve heard this probably 1000 times, but there’s no overstating it to someone totally fresh to this. Enjoy!
📤📤📤📤📤
The fact that you already love the earliest bits of this series so much make me so excited for you to get to the best parts of it!
Given that one voice actor voiced every clone, a live action version would be terribly stressful for the actor involved.
31:54
Ahsoka is a togruta, not human.
Those things on her head are part of her body and give her écho location
The guy who does the voice for the Admiral (Tom Cane voices Yularen) also does the intro voicing for the Clone Wars
The Clone Wars is an Anthology series, meaning that the episodes aren’t always in chronological order. It means that a lot of the time you can just jump into the show at any point, meaning it’s an easy show to pick up and watch.
I'm so excited you are going on this journey in chronological order! thats a very special and unique thing not a lot of us got to experience as this aired. I'm so ready to re-experience this through your eyes this way.
The B-1 Battle droids are comic relief.
That is their whole charm!! Love when they give Grievous the Jedi lightsabers and he swipes them from their hands and with attitude they go "You're welcome!!" Hahaha smarting off to Grievous not so smart.
Little history lesson:
Abe Lincoln actually didn’t want to free the slaves early in his political career. It wasn’t until his opponent who was very anti-slave who had a better campaign came in and pressured Abe into adopting the anti-slave movement.
I'm so glad you're doing this series! You're really gonna love it.
On the topic of animated or live action, i do love the cartoon designs and it's entertaining as a cartoon..but i wouldn't mind a live action series, so many good moments would look amazing!
Anakin's comment about her not being old enough to be a padawan was mostly in jest. She's not a child either. She was 14 at this point in the story. Anakin was 10 when he was taken as Obi-Wan's padawan, so it's actually surprising that Ahsoka wasn't assigned a master sooner.
