      I don't understand why certain things get given to certain directors/producers. When I was in college I fell upon Nightwatch, a Russian fantasy movie. After I watched the two movies I found they were based on books. I read the books and they were massively different! For some reason these movie books were given to a director that *hated* magic an fantasy shit so he did his best to remove them from the movie... A movie that was based on fantasy book series. The moment John Buttcheeks took off his helmet in episode 1, I knew it was not going to be Halo and that we were getting garbage. Its such a shame that we got two very poor live adaptations of Netflix Resident Evil and Paramount Halo. The entire teams behind both of these live action massacres should never touch another video game adaptation. I really hope this whole "get a video game franchise and put it on our live streaming service so people have a reason to sub" dosent become a trend. Live action anime adaptations are bad enough.

    • @zeroattentiongaming820
      @zeroattentiongaming820 2 года назад +8

      Live action anime isn't inherently bad, though I agree most shouldn't be attempted. Simply doesn't translate well to live action in most cases. The Bleach movie is the one example where I feel it was actually done well and the only reason I believe it is possible to translate an anime to live action and do it justice both as an adaptation and as a well made movie in its own right.
      Full Japanese cast that resemble the characters and the English version was dubbed over by several of the official dub actors. They somehow dubbed Johnny Yong Bosch over a live action Japanese actor and made it seamless for the whole movie.
      As for Resident Evil, I'd say I don't know why that series is still getting adaptations but I do. Capcom makes a shitload of money regardless of how good or bad adaptations of their work do. They don't give a shit how it turns out, they just collect a check. Which is kind of hilarious when they also make their own CG movies that are canon to the game timeline and at least feel like the more action heavy entries of the games.
      Not one of these live action RE adaptations has captured what made the series legendary. At most they will nail an aspect or two while completely screwing up everything else. Capcom's own CG movies don't capture what made the series legendary either but at the very least they do capture the batshit lunacy of RE4 and 5 in top form. Leon and Chris teaming up to clear a crowded hallway of zombies in Vendetta was fucking badass spectacle in the way only Capcom themselves seems to get right with the franchise. A Tyrant vs a pack of Lickers, that's just good dumb Capcom fun

      @@SoggywafflecakesI’ll say this and I’ll keep saying it until I die but games like halo shouldn’t be live action and I’m tired of people trying to force this. Live action is just too constrictive and expensive to do right. For games it should just be animated, you don’t need body actors, you don’t need props, you don’t need set pieces, and all that other shit, all you need to do is draw and animate whatever you want, and not only that due to the fact it’s animated you can even get the original voice actors for the games to work on the show.
      I mean look at LOL and Cyberpunk they were able to nail everything that made the games and lore so exciting and memorable, that could be halo but nope we shall continue this live action bullshit forever.

    If the inhibitor chip blocks his sense of taste it should logically also block his sense of smell. That means that John can't smell anything, like a fire or a sweaty man sneaking up on him. It makes no sense to have an inhibitor chip block any of the 5 essential human senses, just because you want them not to experience pleasure. The sense of sight can also be very pleasureable, depending what you are looking at, so why not also make your super soldiers blind? Why would you make human super soldiers in the first place, if your are going to take away some of their essential survival senses? I do not understand how such a completely ridiculous plot point made it into this show.

      Step 2: Oh shit he fucking died because his rations ran out and he ate a bunch of shit he shouldn't have but he didn't know that because you broke his fucking tastebuds so that you could jerk off thinking about how your super soldiers, the only thing preventing humanity from getting totally manhandled, cant enjoy food. Usually one of the quickest ways to raise morale is through food and pleasurable stimuli, its recommended before intensive missions that soldiers eat candy and some of their kits even come pre packaged with it. Among the hormones that thing would have to suppress is dopamine. Turns out, you also need that for a sliiiiightly useful function called: Movement. 😬
      In addition to being a mood-based motivator, that chemical also motivates movement & its control, by relaying the will to move (so it can even initiate), & sending back confirmation that the movement was successful (so even with your eyes closed, you can tell that you've moved your arm, for example). It's why physically practicing a skill lets you get better at it over time, combining physical & psychological satisfaction, & letting you fine-tune your motions.
      Parkinson's Disease is a malfunction of the dopamine system, for example, with both mental but mostly movement/control consequences. And ADHD involves having too little dopamine activity in certain mood centers of the brain (making us chase dopamine-releasing activities desperately), & too much involved in movement (if you're of the hyperactive subtype) or thought (in the inattentive subtype; your attention just goes too many other places at once).
      Also, why morale is vital: Without those motivating/reward chemicals one usually receives when doing something successfully, the brain goes "Well, we must not be doing anything right, or worth doing. We'll just conserve energy, until we find what is worth doing." And so, it actively FORCES you into a low-energy state. You get sluggish, unmotivated (even anti-motivated), tired more & more easily. Your attention span diminishes. Your reflexes dwindle. Eventually, your system is as depressed as your mood, you lay down to conserve that last bit of energy... & you don't care if you die.
      In this story, even if they successfully just routed the dopamine away from mood & toward movement (rather than suppressing it altogether), the Spartans really would've just become sad, atrophied lumps of human shape, with no motivation to do anything anymore. Except maybe twitching.

      @ZaCloud-Animations___she-her I was always under the impression that it didn't outright suppress hormones and dopamine, just regulate it in the brain to extremely tight margins, so that they're essentially always in a "calm, unemotional" state.

    • @ZaCloud-Animations___she-her
      @ZaCloud-Animations___she-her 10 месяцев назад

      @@mtiernan8773 Well, If kept at flat enough levels to keep calm mental state, that still can have serious physical health impacts. The levels of hormones NEED to fluctuate in response to various situations & environmental stressors, or systems break down. Static adrenalin & cortisol levels during & after exertion, for example, would deprive them of the boost to strength, speed, reflex, visual processing, etc during dangerous situations (reducing survivability & capability), normal breathing & heart rate leading to insufficient oxygen exchange to make up for the energy burn, leading to dizziness & passing out... & leads to reduced ability to heal from injuries, increase in painful systemwide inflammation, broken muscle tissue not being properly cleaned up, stunted muscle regrowth, etc.
      The body needs to know it's been stressed, in order to apply extra resources to recovery. Though I guess their suits could inject them with an artificial cocktail of those in combat. But there are countless exchanges in the body that need to be tightly managed afterwards, which isn't very viable.
      Too little serotonin to produce happiness, along with obvious depression issues, can also lead to digestive & nutrition issues, & all the downfalls that come with it.
      Lots of other examples are out there, but I'm not as well-versed in those details.
      But oh well, it's science fiction which is allowed to bend the rules. But this show just has so much lack of critical thought, while still trying to take itself seriously, that it seems more like lazy writing as an excuse to create drama where there didn't need to be.

They gave us Reach to try and hang above our heads like a big brother taking our favorite toy, "lOoK, wE cArE aBoUt FaNs". Instead, a better way would be to use the actual name, New Alexandria. And maybe have actual fanfare, like an interaction with Noble Team, or at least Carter-A259. Hell, even a pelican flying over Sword Base would suffice. But alas, like many franchises and brands these days, they don't care about their fan base. Additionally, both Miranda, and Jacob Keyes, were ignored as original characters. Race swapped as with every beloved character. They botched the uniform design, ditching the uniforms given by Bungie in Combat Evolved. They also ignored the armor sets and the already established Mjolnir generations. He is in the Halo Infinite armor, Mjolnir Mark VI Gen3, while in this time he should be in his Mark V armor. I can't believe 343 allowed this shit show to not only get beyond storyboarding but CLEAR A SECOND SEASON! This disappoints me to no end. Companies just need to stop taking franchises that have a fanbase already and trying to change it to bring in more people from other fanbases, 9 times out of 10 it ruins the franchise for everyone, especially for the original fanbase because the formula that made them love that franchise is gone. Stick to the formula that works and that made Halo successful instead of trying to warp it to invite the larger masses, it ruins Halo! Also, great video Elvis.

I don’t doubt he would follow orders. But John is extremely sympathetic to all people. He understands the role he plays for humanity’s survival. I believe he comes off as stoic because he knows he has to. No other human in history has been bestowed as much responsibility and pressure as him. He his humanity’s savior, he has to have the answers, he’s the one person that literally cannot afford to fail.
    Also the chips take a shot at John’s character. In a way, he reminds me of Captain America. Yes, the suits, Cortana, and luck help, but it’s his morality and selfless need for human survival that makes him a hero. He’s more than willing to sacrifice himself if it meant he could save people. He’s shown that throughout the games. But with the chips, by that logic, he wouldn’t.

In the Mandalorian, every time they removed his helmet, it was done so with the purpose of strengthening his character. It wouldn't be hard to do that for Halo either. As a Halo Fan, I always felt that the solution to the situation the game put me in were always given to me by the game through the environment.
      Exemple in Halo 3 first mission. At the end of the mission you find yourself in front of a bridge with a sort of small tower above tthe entrance. On the other side of the bridge is a very strong Brute with an Antigrav Hammer (aka one-shot-fucker).
      If you just run, you are dead, this bastard jump faster than you while swinging is two-handed-death-sentence.
      But if you're creative and think clever the game propose you two solution
      1 : the tower first floor : First the tower will offer you some protection as the Brute wan't really go to the first floor (you will have to jump around to reach it) Second, there's a sniper rifle on the first floor and you can kill the Brute in two headshot with it.
      2 : Covenant sniper : earlier in the mission you fought off several covenant sniper, if yout took one of their guns and kept it, you arrive at the bridge with a good fire power to stop the Brute.
      Btw the use of long range weapon will also allow you to save a squad of marines the covenant took hostage which is a cool reward (if you are fast enough)
      So basically to be good at the game you need to be creative and use your environment. Even in the lore, Kat, in Halo Reach, a Spartan, is the one who had the idea to blow up a covenant ship using a faulty ship engine using her knowledge in mechanic. Spartans are Creative, they're not buffed mindless drone

    Here’s the funny thing about Reth: they could’ve fixed that entire plothole about how he knows everything about the Covenant’s religion if they just stuck to the games’ lore. You see, Reth isn’t an original character made for the show. He’s from the Halo lore.
    And in the lore, he wasn’t a human. He was a Jackal. A race prominently featured in the Covenant’s military force that would know about the Covenant’s religion, even if they didn’t believe in it since they were motivated by money. That way, Reth’s reason for going to the Rubble would make more sense since they’re also a band of pirates.

      No. The worst part is that Makee’s existence completely derails the entire plot from the games. Thus, they started a holy war against humanity to maintain their power.
      So why in Zeus’ butthole did they go to war in the show? It’s clearly not a holy war, otherwise the Prophets would never in a million years choose to uplift Makee into a supposedly powerful figurehead like she is in the show.

    after finishing the show (about 5hrs ago now, just because S2 is coming up) I see what they were going for, I understand what they wanted to do. But it could've been done differently and better. The argument for being helmet off so much is to establish a connection with the character. Also why they humanized him so much with the emotions and the Halsey stuff, also Kai. The more interesting thing to do in my opinion would've been to use ODSTs and Marines to establish the threat of the Covenant and how hopless humanity was against them. Follow some ODSTs everyone knows they barely get enough love for a pretty badass troop. Then when things start going south call in the Spartans. Honestly, following ODSTs in a losing battle on a few planets, where Spartan teams are called in and work with them to establish the prestige of Spartans along with how they are the hope of humanity, I think would've resonated with the audience. Chief being the main spartan saving the lives of the ODSTs that people are growing attached to, i think would've festered some good faith and connection with Chief in preparation for the Fall of Reach.
    The way the show goes about everything. It looks like the Covenant finding Halo and Reach are Halsey's fault. Chief/Cortana had the opportunity to end or severely damage the Coveneant War effort by killing the Prophets in ep9 and didn't. Chief becomes a 'robot' as a result of sacrificing himself for his team and the mission (which while good takes away from the more horrific truths of the Spartan-II Program.) The show also paves a way for discord in the ranks as a result of Keyes compliancy and involvement in the Selection phase of the SII program. There is so much that could be changed for the better or even just elaborated on. The entire Madrigal plot could be dropped and we'd lose nothing. Makee was a contestable inclusion, but one that in some ways makes sense when you remember that only humans could activate Forerunner artifacts. Also they made Hood sound like your typical corrupt official that only cared about covering his own ass.

      Someof what you said, yes, but makee as a character SHOULD NOT exist. The covenant throughout the Halo series is shown to absolutely despise humanity, specifically because they realized we can just intuitively react to forerunner tech. The covenant do not take human prisoners, let alone RAISE A HUMAN CHILD. Her mere existence is an affront to a major part of the lore that even allows for the story to take place. The only way for humanity to win the war in the games was to eliminate covenant leadership simply because the covenant would never hit the negotiating table because they hated us. The individual races were slightly different, for example the elites Hated being controlled and used and disrespected by the prophets and some of them eventually turned sides and worked with humanity.

    I really really REALLY hate the emotion dampening pellets as they feel like they remove a lot of agency from the spartans. Plus it removes so much potential for their chemistry. I really liked how in books they created their own non verbal communication such as two fingers over their helmet is equivalent to a smile.
    Oh and the killing their pets part makes no sense with the pellets because it's from the books.
    Oh and they also blackwashed Keyes and took an actor with totally different physique ...

    I find it hilarious that any reviews on majority of apps that speak out against how bad they f up the Halo lore. They block those reviews. If you go to reviews for the tv show on google. You will see a bunch of fake 5 star reviews of people claming to be Halo fans when they arent. Anyone that speaks out against that and how bad the tv is. They will remove your post. I wrote about everything wrong with the show. My review was taken down the next day. I talked about the bad writing, not following the Halo lore. Having a team of writers in charge that came out saying they didnt play the games or read the books. Master Chief talking to much. Not able to keep his helmet on. Kwan being extremely annoying and wondering why shes even there. The weapons dont feel like Halo weapons. They look like stuff we have today. Bad CGI. Along with the vehicles. Master Chief being stronger without his power armor. The race swapping. The human Covenant spy which made no sense. Master Chief being way to emotional. Doing things that would get him sent to military prison. Dr. Halseys colleague trying to make out with a flash clone for what ever reason. No Noble team. No other Spartans. Master Chief turning into Master Claps cheeks. As Cortana watches. The weird implant garbage. The show feeling like a light porno at times. I tried to tolerate the show as long as I could. Once I saw Master Claps Cheeks happened. I turned off my xbox. Stared at the screen for a good 4 minutes. Yelled what in the actual f### was that? I was so confused. I took a look at my water thinking I was drugged or something. I canceled my subscription to hbo after. The tv show is so bad that its not even worth watching if you see it free or pirate it. Its not worth anyones time to any capacity. The show is so bad they actually need to redo it again start over. Fire everyone. I was 😡🤬 for a month. Seeing one of my favorite video games that i had a lot of fond memories of growing up. Waiting for a tv show series to happen. Only to feel like I was spat on my face with this horrible dumpster fire. Its like they burned a building. Added not just jet fuel. They added rocket fuel.

    I tried to give it a chance and i regret it ever since. My first shock was Master Cheeks revealed his face very early on . This tells me the writers don't understand the character and they just want to push the pretty face actor narrative.
    My biggest shock though was when we randomly learned what the halo was which was a huge reveal om the game and they gave it as much importance as what they had for dinner.
    It's only natural that when the creators admit they don't know much about the lore and they're just using ips to push Hollywood cliches the show will fail. The failure of that show is extremely disheartening considering were talking about a game that has sold tens of millions of copies just with the first game released.
    Unfortunately the show proved to be a dumpster fire and not even the big budget could save it. Fans hated it and i will be very surprised if it survives past season 2.
    Also note to the stupid random shithead who plays master cheeks. Fighting the fan base because they don't like the shit you're selling never ends well.

    Also one thing that I feel like you forgot to mention that actually drives me crazy in movies and TV shows is when the characters suddenly loses their accent and it's never acknowledged. Like in the flashback scene when John talks to Soren, Soren is extremely British. And when John finds him on the asteroid years later he suddenly has no accent.
    It's like a really obvious continuity error and I think the creators missing a detail like that pretty much sums up the (lack of) quality of this show.
    Also I have to add that you could kind of tell from the get-go that the show would not be good. Anytime that a series has a super interesting plot by just being itself (like Halo actually does) and then decides to focus on some random ass teenage character....you know it's not going to be good because nobody gives a shit about *that character.* In this case Kwan, because she is just annoying and uninteresting. Why did they focus on her at all? Like it's fine if Master Chief wants to save her, but outside of that what the hell were they doing?

  • @Tawleyn
    @Tawleyn 2 года назад +51

    I feel the need to tell you that the part you found interesting at 46:15 talking about how they replaced the children with clones. Well, that was established lore in the very first book written by Eric Nylund. So one of the more interesting plot points in the show wasn't even written by the show runners. It really just emphasizes how fucking cool this series could have been if they just stuck with Halo's core themes and altered parts of it to make it more interesting for TV. Instead they wanted to be so far removed that they took everything interesting about Halo and replaced it with their "Original Ideas" that were *all* objectively worse.
