    So... correct me if I’m wrong BUT! Did Fabi really missed the win?
    1st of all in my opinion I think it was harder to find Qb3 than Nf5 (why? Idk! Chess principles attack the pinned piece & Qb3 Like Agad said! It’s a “disgusting engine line”) BUT! Also! At min 11:31 u showed what happens after Qd2+ & u said u don’t protect the rook u go Kf3 (witch was definitely worth trying considering Magnus was lower on the clock) but u only showed that sequence... so what about Qd3+ instead of taking the rook? Isn’t that a draw? Cuz u can’t protect w/ the rook! That’s mate in 1 & protect w/ the knight I feel black can untangle... idk that’s why I’m wondering did Fabi really missed the win? Was it a draw either way?

      They are called engine lines for a reason. They're hard to spot for human players. The player who would spot Carlsen line would be Capablanca because if you watch his games, all of his games end up with him dominating an end game by finding a single weakness in a piece formation and then capitalizing by capturing all minor pieces, followed by checkmate/resign in the end game.

    I don't see how ruining your pawn structure is so bad. Sure, you'd have a doubled pawn, but it's an extra. The only downside to doubled pawns is you can't defend both of them as easily, but worst case scenario you just lose it and you're back to where you were anyway, and best case scenario, you're up a pawn.

    funny how call them "disgusting" lines. just realize that they're the best moves, it's like calling a new idea disgusting simply because it's not natural to consider, sounds like cheating when you refer to them as disgusting, they're still exsisting legal moves to play

    • @droceretik
      @droceretik 5 лет назад +1

      It's in the context of human play. It's unrealistic to expect even the best players in the World to choose engine lines. I can enjoy top chess because I can understand most of the moves. I cannot understand engine moves except in hindsight so I don't enjoy games between engines as a spectator.

      @@droceretik I get your point, but it feels like we're confining ourselves into a human way of thinking so we're not looking at reality, like we're fearing the unknown. And that undiscovered part of reality still exists as engines reveal them, and we look at them like something out of this world, while they're still parts of our reality, but we can't really find them due to the lack of computing possibility of our brains. I mean it's still cool to play chess but, we should always bear in mind that us humans can never play it perfectly and respect the engines that suggest new ideas.

    Knowing very little about chess, how is it possible to determine if a move is an "engine move" or a "human move"? And what makes an engine move disgusting? Can engine moves be beautiful?

    • @droceretik
      @droceretik 5 лет назад

      At the top level in online chess it is difficult to distinguish. At ordinary level, say ratings of 1,000 to 2,200 it is easier, especially if a player is consistently playing very advanced moves or playing at a level much higher than their rating would suggest. The chess sites, such as Chess.com or Lichess, have ways (algorithms) of automatically analysing games that show anomalies in playing levels. Sometime, if the player is not automatically flagged as a possible engine user, the opponent can complain to moderators and then the games are analysed. Players can be banned and frequently do get penalised with expulsion for set periods or permanently? The problem arises when players abuse the system and make frivolous complaints that are interpreted as "sour grapes" . That is, a player is a "sore loser". Sometimes players who are actually cheating attempt to confuse the issue by claiming the accuser is just a "sore loser". Another problem is players who use an engine intermittently or if they can't come up with a good candidate move once in a critical position use an engine. It is much harder to use engines in rapid chess, especially if networks are lagging. There are some clues to engine use such as exceptional moves being made with consistent timing such as every 5 seconds and especially if the playing has a modest rating. Players often delete their identities after being banned and emerge with a new name. It is unknown why low rated players use chess engines as it is a "hollow victory" but could be an underlying self esteem issue and an unconscious process of boosting self image and a sense of achievement. If money is involve with victories then engine use can be explained with sociopathic behavior but money is almost never an issue in online play at a level where cheating is common.

    • @Zeralonde
      @Zeralonde 5 лет назад

      The Norway Chess tournament has a weird setup. Each matchup starts with a classical game. If it's a draw, the players then play an armageddon game, where white has more time (I believe 7 minutes to 5 minutes) but is required to win. If black is able to draw, it counts as a win for black.

  • @Janet_Airlines802

    I don’t like this Armageddon format. Players that are better at blitz especially Magnus seem to play for a draw in classical. Magnus wasn’t to impressive in the classical games.
