It's brilliant
You can tell Magnus really enjoyed this interview ... he seemed so engaged, more so than most chess interviews I remember. And Pep as well, seemed to really respect Magnus's feedback ... Great video

You can see how thrilled Magnus is with strategy and Football when Guardiola was explaining Foden’s goal and vicerversa, Pep super excited on Magnus analogy of Chess to Football!
Seeing 2 intelligent minds that drive their knowledge and professional career to the highest peak is nothing but amazing!
This interview is delightful to see!
fr
We need haaland and magnus
Magnus explained football and chess perfectly. Even PEP was shocked there
bro can be a football manager. also he played FPL a lot
I didn't expect his answers to be so thorough, but then again I shouldn't be surprised cos he's a chess genius
@@yanz_77he was first in fpl
@@markrobertson3054i know
Both are strategic sports.
Imagine Magnus as a football manager referring to his players as chess pieces at half time 😵💫
Going with the analogy, every pawn would be a bishop then if you are just buying the best players.
89 min: QUEEEN SACRIFIICEE!!!
Yeah, but who'll be the team's queen? )))😄
@DMxalava if you're Man City then Haaland 🤣🤣 most valuable player but you know he's going to get injured at some point 🙈🙈
LMAO@@Naslednik.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to host / be in the same room as these two geniuses! 😀🤝
smashed it bro,
You did amazing bro 🙌🏼 watched the whole thing
You led the conversation smoothly; even as a language teacher, I am learning from you. Keep it up!
Great job!
You did really great. Youbasked interesting question and most importantly didn't interrupted them. You just controlled the flow of conversation as an interviewer should. I'm sad it's not a standard with talk shows, but you did it like I think (and a lot of other comments do as well) it should be done
Now we need Hikaru and Jose Mourinho.
😂😂😂
Jose literally prefers not to speak
@@ЕгорБоборыкин if he speaks he's in trouble
Mourinho play the Berlin and sometimes the Sicilian
🤣🤣🤣
Pep was looking at Magnus as if he was about to offer him a job as an advisor 😂
he propably did 😂 At Bayern Munich he wanted to field Manuel neuer as a Midfielder once, the Bosses werent happy haha
I thought the other way around
To be honest, he looked like he wanted to do something much more radical xD
Haha very true! There was lust in those eyes 😍😝
Magnus is being a bit humble. He trained professionally until he was 12, I think. Then he switched his entire focus to chess
Props to FG! These questions were actually relevant, and also keeping both guests entertained/in the conversation. The football-chess parallel was super interesting.
Edit: Also, yes. Would've literally sat there and listened to a podcast of you three. Definitely, we need a part 2 of this someday, with the same three people.
need videos so podcast unlikely
Magnus Carlsen loosing his PUMA deal from next year. So not gonna happen.
fg didnt create those questions he just read them out for them
I disagree. I think most of these questions, like most other interviews, are obvious questions which prompt obvious answers and a little bit of deviation from the answer by the person being interviewed.
"How important is patience in chess?" (Obviously very important, like with all facets of life).
"Are there situations where you can turn defensive situations into an attacking one within a matter of moves?" (Yes, like with virtually every sport or game).
"Do you change your strategy when things aren't going your way?" (A resounding yes- it's an established thing for anything involving a strategy).
I think these questions are more of a prompt to get the person interviewing just to initiate a bit of an answer surrounding the topic, but not the actual question itself and I personally dislike media-trained interviewers like this one.
@@nosir1479 Pretty sure these questions were tailored to bring in a more general crowd with a somewhat better understanding of football than chess. Sure, the questions could have been better, but i get why they were the way they were.
Pep was clearly impressed when Magnus was speaking. The eyes say it all
He’s gonna use it as a Pepe talk for the next match 😂
He recognizes talent!!!
Well yeah, he literally said he was right?
Yeah he was.
Well yea Magnus is the Messi of chess he saw the greatness
You can tell Magnus is trying to absorve every bit he can when he is stearing the TV while Guardiola explains what's going on. Admirable brain and focus capavilities he has!!!!!
Observe xD
You can tell Pep enjoyed this. He looked so deep in thought when Magnus was speaking.
Yes both of them are great 👍
game recognizes game. pep knows he is sitting next to a guy who is probably the most dominant in his field in our century.
He was tryna get some ideas
Love how Pep's eyes lit up when Magnus said the important thing is to control the middle and switching the side of the play.
it's rare that someone impresses pep. You clearly see magnus caught peps attention within the first 10 sec when Pep crossed his arms and touched his face.
Cause Pep is an egomaniac that’s why it’s rare to impress him.
@@anubis8586 Nice try Yaya Toure better luck next time
@@anubis8586 you don't make it to this level of competitiveness in any sport without a big ego.
@@Fear_Draco717 lmao touche tbh 💀😭
@@Damdebase you’re right but pep’s ego is a bit different.
I remember Pep saying he spoke to chess players about mental preparation and how to deal with the mental fatigue of high pressure situations over long periods. This conversation just felt naturally should happen considering what both have achieved at the highest level
Incredible hearing Magnus speak about the similarities between chess and football
This could be an entire series; "Pep and Magnus Masterclass". Where they analyze strategy and tactics in different sports like rugby, tennis, poker etc. would definitely watch it.
COME ON!! 12 minutes??
Puma!! Man City!! Carlsen!!
We need at least an hour of Pep and Magnus - and the interviewer!
Be grateful that we got to see this in the first place 😅
I appreciate that you also remembered the interviewer.
interviewer or his team definitely prepared work for this, espescially in the chess criteria great questions
Agreed!!
...and who was the interviewer?
Sorry, I`m Austrian, so...
Butif you know the guy so far... an answer would benice...
This commentator is a genius at his job.
So calm. Asks perfect questions. Perfect Execution.
I learned as much from him as Magnus and Pep.
I think he asks robotic and cliche questions that we know the answer to.
@@nosir1479 I don't think so. What other questions he should have asked?
He's not only the greatest chess player of all time, but also was briefly ranked world no 1 in 2019 in Premiere League fantasy football
What is that supposed to mean explain in layman's terms
Stop the cap that just proves his mind is on another level..
@@thaaLoverboyy9944he is extremely good at predicting who is gonna win the football match.
@@thaaLoverboyy9944 There are about 10 million people around the world that play the Premier League's Fantasy Football game. There was one week in 2019 when Magnus was the number one fantasy player in the world. He is very proud of that.

Man these 2 talking about each sport is just amazing.. I can't even explain how it makes me feel, its like a rush and I love it. I could listen to these 2 talking about their craft all day long.
bravo to the host for asking great questions and allowing these two geniuses to share their wisdom uninterrupted.
it's common to see hosts who do too much and end up imposing themselves onto a video like this, really nice to see one who gets it.
Props to the interviewer. Amazing questions and handled the interview so well.
A Football Genius, A Chess World Champion and Pep Guardiola all in the same room😮💨

All I can say is WOW what an interview! Amazing for us lovers of both chess and football. It would've been great to see Magnus and Haaland speaking too.

I wish he had more time to go more in depth about it, he barely touched the surface.
You can see peps eyes light up when Magnus is talking about chess tactics, great to see even as a Liverpool fan
Look at Pep,he looked at Magnus every time he spoke...

What I like about magnus is, his eagerness to learn things. He listens to everything and observes everything. He even seemed so engaged with whatever he heard and put it to his note. I know I am not the only that admires him. Pep's eyes said it all.❤
Look how happy is Magnus to be there and talk about this.
I think he feels on the same wave and mindset as Pep. Great chemistry and duo 😊
Just coming back to this video. I love this. Pep shows so much respect, you can tell he wants to glean as much as he can from magnus and magnus is just acting like a fan. Love it
The best interview I have seen in both sports. What an insane explanation Magnus gave to the resemblance of football and chess, the look on Pep's face says it all. Lastly the interviewer was just amazing, great questions, solid handling of two pure geniuses. Very very enjoyable to watch and what a nice unexpected collision of two legends.
Great comment 😉

If this video was an hour long, I'd have watched until the end. Amazing interview. Gotta love a host that asks good questions and actually lets the guests answer.
As a Chess and Football fanatic, this was incredible to see.
Magnus is a huge football fan. He was ranked no 1 in the world in Fantasy Premier League once. The game against Ian Nepomniachtchi that was mentioned, was the 6th game of the World Chess Match 2021. The first 5 games were draws, and Magnus won the 6th game in 136 moves and 7 1/2 hours. It is the longest game in World Championship history. That 6th game broke Ian, Magnus went on to win games 8, 9, and 11 and won the best of 14 games match comfortably, 7.5 to 3.5, for his 5th Classical World Championship title.
How do know he did well in fantasy league
Were are the facts ? 🤔😤
@@Benucci_music The fantasy rankings are public, anyone can see them.
It's great to see how carefully Pep listens to what Magnus says.
i love the way magnus is trying to simplify chess concepts for pep. magnus knows more football compared to how pep knows chess. As a chess and football fan lots for respect for both. I JUST LOVE THIS 12 MINUTE VIDEO WISH IT COULD HAVE BEEN AN HOUR.
Agree - fast 12 minutes.
a podcast.
More of a Hikaru/Liverpool guy myself, but this is absolutely legendary!! So happy I found this and I am honored to have been able to watch both of these men perform at such a high level for so many years.
Pep and Magnus deserve their credit but the interviewer asked really good questions.
Absolute brilliant stuff.
I wish it went longer, it is a gift to listen to these two legends.
Two absolute geniuses in their own game. You can tell how much magnus admires pep and how surprised pep was when magnus was giving similarities between chess and football.
1:30 the face of pep lol he was shocked by magnus explanation it is indeed very similar to what happens between the football pitch and the board
How Magnus explained football in chess terms calmly has stunned both Pep and myself 😅
In Germany there is actually a term for football, especially looking at the tactical component and it is called "Rasenschach" which basically translates to "chess on a field" or "fieldchess" and I think it fits beautifully.
Without Riyad in that movement everything would not be possible. He still thanks and praises him What a coach

everybody talking about pep and carlsen, but I need to pay respect to this interviewer, damn, he led the interview like a master
Even Pep was happy with the way Magnus explained chess
Massively respectful interview of both geniuses where both had great tidbits to share.
For those who don't know much about chess, let me tell you that Magnus is the strongest chess player who has ever lived. He gave up his World Championship because he believed there was no adversary that could beat him in a WC match. And no one argued against it.
Yep. That's right. Magnus Carlsen is to chess, what Amadeus Mozart is to music. A gift from the Gods. I've lost count of the amount of times Magnus has found a win in the endgame that looked a dead draw. Kasparov was the greatest, but it's Carlsen now.
Bobby Fischer and Kasparov get a shout out too
@@samearaeraNot Fischer he cannot match the Magnus legacy and ‘personality’ too. After all, Fischer was and is a criminal.
he gave up his world championship? What do you mean?
he decided he didn't want to compete in that format and take a break from it (classical world championship which is the one where a game is played over a full day and they play first to ten games) he didn't believe the #2 could beat him in the format (Nepo) and tbh he proved it because he'd already beaten him in two classic world championship finals. So he gave up his title and let two other GMs compete for instead that earned their spots by qualifying Nepo and Ding Liren@@brucelee7782
The player Magnus was supposed to face before he decided not to to compete (Nepo) ended up losing the championship match so there's a chance Magnus will come back to compete for the next one against Liren
The crossover i didnt expect but i needed. Both are legends! GOATs
We need more Magnus and Pep - this was excellent!
What a great video !! wow thanks Puma and Man city for this. Pep looking like he would get magnus on his team immediately if magnus played football lol
As a norwegian Liverpool-fan (since the 80's) who likes to watch chess but doesn't know how to play chess, this was one oddly satisfying interview to watch. Pep's been such an influential manager and person for both PL and the world of football. Sometimes, I think back to what a class player he was, but he's taken that class with him into the world of managing as well. Together with Liverpool, Man. City have dominated PL the past couple of years, more or less, and the constant battles Pep have had and still has with Jurgen Klopp is amazing to witness. Then it's Magnus Carlsen... His achievements says it all, really. How his memory is so solid when it comes to the game. His enormous list of openings, ways to get through troubles and how into the game he is, whether his winning or losing, is awesome to see. Yep, 2 world class people in their respective arenas that we can simply applaud. :)
Loserpool fans, always equating man city to Liverpool. Sorry lad, Liverpool has not domìnated EPL. 1 title in 8 years of klopp is below par
@@goodman4093 A classic bitter comment from a bitter, sour and a childish soul from you there. It never fails. I never claimed Liverpool were equal to Man. City, but let me elaborate (since my english isn't on par nor my main language): I simply said that together with Liverpool, Man. City's been dominating the PL for the past couple of years, which is true. Not in terms of titles, but in terms of play and overall performance and ranking. Even Pep's said himself that Liverpool's their main rival. It's just how it is. Don't try to take the focus away from the main point of my comment, which is to praise 2 outstanding personalities within their sports and simply move on with your bitterness.
Well said mate..😊@@Shookie
Wow the GOATs together, you can see that they recognize eachother as the same breed.
