There is a reason Magnus plays "bad" openings. It's not just merely a trolling disrespect thing. People at the top levels of play have studied and played all the top openings to death to the point that the early game is almost an exercise in autopilot for them. By playing a bad opening you take people out of their comfort zone and area of expertise. A bad opening may be positionally weaker, but it results in novel board states more quickly and easily where memorisation cannot serve as a crutch.

What confused me most in this video is you know Borussia Dortmund. And called it a football - not a soccer club. Hats off to you, valued gentleman ^^

Levy looks great with his new haircut. Glad he's stopped those awful product promotions and instead concentrates on promoting his own excellent courses.

Well, I played in my last game the doubled beaver claw (a5 and h5) and developed the pieces with the cow, and still won the game by checkmate. Everything is possible at my level of 1300.

5:51 : be3xbd4: why didn't the white bishop in e3 take the black one in d4, defending therefore the pawn in b2 and attacking the black queen in b6 and the black knight in f2 and even threatening the black pawn in g7? 😢😅

I played against chatgpt recently and it tried to spawn in a knight and I said it wasn’t legal then it corrected itself by spawning in a Queen, and it kept switching back and forth between the two moves so I just let it spawn in the knight

Great idea, especially going after opponents of comparable ELO, demonstrating (once again) that more than the opening, it's how you play the rest of the game that actually counts, most of the times. Thanks!

In casual OTB games, I will play the Grob or Borg against someone I don't know as a diagnostic tool to see what their skill level is. If they beat me, they are at least as good as me. If they are weaker, I will win.

g4 is so aptly named Grob. In German it means crude/uncultured/rough/abrasive very applicable to such a poor opening.
