I just spent a few weeks climbing through 500s in 3 minute blitz and reached 600s yesterday. You’d be surprised how many 500s can play like this. It’s just that they usually lose on time when they play accurately like that. Time control is the main issue for a lot of players in that rating pool.

Just wanna congratulate the FIVE HUNDRED ELO playing an IM at an elo of 1800. If you see this, know that you are awesome! Way to step your game up! So proud of you!
The first game was against my buddy "BuriedCorpses". He's been stuck in 500 for a while but he knows chess theory above what a 1500 would know and studies quite a lot of your courses. Thank you for playing him you raised his confidence a lot and I'm sure this will give him the motivation he needs to climb the ranks
I used to not know anything about chess I was at a level where I had no idea what an opening was and by watching these videos after a little while I learned principals and how to actually play chess and I am currently making my way towards a thousand Elo. I just want to say thank you to Gotham for teaching me all these things.
Nice video, I really like how you gave opportunities to the respective Elos. So much content on YT is high rated players pretty much obliterating low elos in speedruns, which is also instructive, it’s very nice to see equivalent-ish play while still explaining winning tactics, and how to recover after missing said tactic.
Please continue to make “The Secret to Chess” as a series, regular theme… Etc. The nature of high ELO positional imbalances and symmetrical beginner games with instructions for assessing them are super helpful!
Gotham I just bought your middlegame and endgame masterclasses and they are not just very educational, but fun aswell. Definitely worth the money especially on 50% off. P.S first:)
I feel like sometimes playing someone drastically higher elo than you actually boosts your personal performance by removing any stress or anxiety. Its just like "Oh yea let's just play the game" and they can be confident in their moves knowing that there's no real consequences even if they lose.

Wow. I've been on the fence about getting a course. Ive currently gone from complete novice to 480 and really want to get higher. But 200 to 1300 is insane, well done. Are the courses really that good then? How long did that take if you don't mind?
@@Majormoose1 to answer that question YES the courses are an amazing starting point and will help you a lot with many professional openings, midgame decisions and endgames that will help you strategize and improve way beyond you could imagine , personally it took me about 1-2 months to try and memorize the foundation on each opening but that would include many matches played on practice mode so I could truly sink everything in.
