Sly move - memorize 20+ moves an engine makes in a known opening, hope that your opponent also memorized those and actually follows them, then use the 2nd best move to throw him off guard. Respect!
Agree, it's a bit ridiculous but then again Ding also had to check-mate Mamedyarov after he blundered and that's something 99.9% of people who comment here cannot do. Memorising engine-lines is not the whole story.
@@Martin-qb2mw I suspect that Ding actually prepared this line and had a few responses ready to take advantage of Mamedyarov's mistakes. Then again, maybe Ding figured out some of the moves during the game. Either way, he played a great game.
Ding actually started thinking immediately after Mamedyarov's first mistake (22... e5). He didn't have any preparation to take advantage of that mistake. Most GMs don't bother preparing against bad moves, because there's way too many of them to prepare against. The goal of opening prep is to get a good position, but you still have to play it yourself from there.
@@davidxu9566 I completely agree with your comment. That said, it's interesting that fisher once said that he doesn't study winning moves, he studed losing moves or losing games in order to better understand chess. This strategy kind of makes sense, because let's face it, he who makes the fewest errors usually wins the game. Apologies to Fisher as my rating doesn't exactly make me qualified to even comment.
My man, I love how you effortlessly point out engine moves and database moves, it must take you so much preparation but you post these videos so quickly. You are an amazing resource, thank you.
Engines ruined the magic of chess. I love when a player surprises his opponent (like in the Alireza Firouzja vs Murali Karthikeyan game with the queen sacrifice), because that way the players actually need to think and show their skill instead of a memory test.
Although aesthetically pleading, In a position that's been played hundreds of times, A Queen sacrifice to continue as a new game doesn't sound like on the board discovery to me, Must have been some preparation behind it however small, Still Murali played a good game that I agree
no offense but your comment is irrelevant in my opinion. Engines just make the game start on move 10 or 20 instead of at move 1, the players still have to fully play alone from that point on. I'm also surprised to read such a comment because agad always makes sure we know when the "actual" game starts or when he thinks that home preparation ends at some point.
8:02 I think you should have mentioned that the black knight on E5 isn't hanging, even though it looks that way, because of a trap (Qxe5, Bf5* and the white queen is lost).
A blunder at the end of known theory is common due to a few things. A. The game is likely complex position with many or most pieces active. B. The correct path becomes more and more narrow as false paths ( I.e. the evolution of theory ) have been eliminated . Perhaps the big mistake was not to use a large piece of time to find the needle in the haystack inside the giant tree of analysis.
Massive credit to the organisers of this tournament. A draw going to Armageddon has been absolutely fantastic, brilliant tournament. Absolutely fantastic 🙂

@@kasparov9 Ding is strong, Mamedyarov is strong. Caruana is very strong, too. In fact, he outperformed both of them in the last challenger tournament. Perhaps it was worth to analyze the Qc4 by black (in the final position). It took me a while to find the winning reply for white (Rxg3+). But i have no engine so there are maybe also another options. Also to show that there is no perpetual for black after Bxa2+
Why didn't they just start at move 21? Ding:"c'mon, Shakhriyar, let's put this position on the board, so we don't have to pretend that we are playing chess for 21 moves."
What about QC4 in the final position instead of rxf6? Threatens the undefended queen and capturing would relieve the threat to the bishop? Answer: rxg6+ qh8# if captures or qd8# if kd8 My point is sometimes these subtleties should be pointed out. Any patzer would immediately exclude rxf6 immediately as a candidate move.
And in this position, Krush blundered away the game as Agadmator had a *nice* sip of water. Unfortunately, his king will now have to go for a nice walk...
00:14 Guess whether it's a classical or Armageddon game. 13:23 Mamedyarov strolling around the playing hall. Me: Ok, of course it's a classical game :))
Agadmator... I think the analysis after Rf2 is not so good. Because you said that the white has no compensation for sacrificed bishop, but there is mate in 3. After Rf2, (on 5:30) then white can play Qh7+, then black can play with his king at only one free square and that is Kf8, and after that white can sacrifice a queen at Qh8 and after bishop takes queen, rook takes bishop and that is checkmate...
If bishop moves ...Then Rxg6+ Kf8(since if...hxg6, then Qh8+#), Bb4+ Ke8 and Rg8+ loses Black the queen...Black does not even have Rf1+ checkmate cos White has Rc1.
Black loses the rook or queen to Rxg6+. Pxg6 is not possible otherwise Qh8++. Rg7 obviously loses the rook. Kf8 is replied with the beautiful Qb4+ - Rook is pinned, Queen block just loses the queen, Ke8 is met with Rf8 skewering the Queen anyway.

This game is showing that due to engines, chess became a game of memory and not a game of strategy. 95% of the game is preparation of engine lines.. As soon as they are out of preparation, their game quality drops too much. Of course the exception to some players goes, but still I think that chess 960 is the only chess type that makes sense today.. As always great coverage of the game, you are an excellent youtuber :)

Play the 1st move randomly,

In chess that's far from normal friend...

What a brilliant game by Ding. I would like to see him challenging Carlsen. He has no fear!
when you're 3 for 3 on figuring out which move to play, it's a great day
Yay description doesn't even spoil the time format!
This is the second time Ding preserved his Bishop Pair. It reminded me of AlphaZero’s Bishop Pair from Hell.
@8:08 isn't the knight hanging? Is there a counterplay for black as he gives up the knight?
@7:58 White Queen can capture the knight on D5 & be a piece up so what's the idea for black!?
I miss seeing knight moves in 1080p and 60fps☹️
Just change the setting, use the gear below the video and select the highest definition
At 7:28 after ...bxe5 why can't white respond with b4? Rook has to go back to c6 or c8 and white will win Black's bishop on e5? What am I missing?
I love the sip of "water" in all the videos. Agad really savors that water :D
Brutal game. Excellent opening preperation
13:06 white can actually play r1 to d8 and after q×r8 white captures the bishop on e6 and with the continuation it's winning for white

Julio Ernesto Granda Zuniga Vs Yasser Seirawan Crazy attacking game..
Beating Mamedyarov in great style is really an unforgetable achievement!
in "great style"? You mean be memorizing engine lines and using a line his opponent didn't happen to memorize? I'd call that straight up boring.
Oh and great video as usual agamator .
#suggestion: the classical game between Caruana and Anand from the same round was great
8:58 why do you have to block the h file why not fork the rooks with the knight check is blocked by the rook on h7?
So Agadmator sorry if you already answered that question but what exactly did you do when working at Google?
If you can hear a whooshing sound it is this game going over my head.
12:37 Rook, bishop, rook. So many snacks, so little time.

Thanks for your beautiful commentary
At 13:19
Why not bishop f5 with check?
what happens if black bishop retreat to d5? Don't see the continuation there @agadmator
Love the deep theory gotcha tricks 👍
At 15:00 why is the bishop lost? You can just move it anywhere since your rook is defended by king
If bishop moves ...Then Rxg6+ Kf8(since if...hxg6, then Qh8+#), Bb4+ Ke8 and Rg8+ loses Black the queen...Black does not even have Rf1+ checkmate cos White has Rc1.
Clash with Kowalski because Rxg6+, kf8, Bb4+, Ke8, Rg8+, Kd7, Qg4+... wins the queen and checkmate soon to follow
Ok thanks guys
Thank you once again for increasing our vast knowledge
14:42 what would have happened if Mamedyarov would play bishop to e5 or e6?
Black loses the rook or queen to Rxg6+. Pxg6 is not possible otherwise Qh8++. Rg7 obviously loses the rook. Kf8 is replied with the beautiful Qb4+ - Rook is pinned, Queen block just loses the queen, Ke8 is met with Rf8 skewering the Queen anyway.
