Channel 4 Cricket: 2005 Ashes Interviews and Presentation Ceremony

England have won the Ashes, and Mark Nicholas interviews many of the happy players, before Mike Atherton takes charge for the presentation ceremony. The presentation ceremony was actually rather poorly run, with players not knowing when to come up and be interviewed, especially if they had won multiple awards! I'm not sure whether C4 were demob-happy as they were about to go off air for the last time, or if the ECB had cracked open the champagne and nobody was there to supervise the ceremony! Either way, there were a couple of minor cock-ups! Nonetheless, we finish with footage of Michael Vaughan lifting the Ashes aloft!

even more so considering his girlfriend (now wife) was in hospital about to give birth to their 2nd child - thankfully he made it to the hospital in time :-)
Atherton wrote a piece in Times during lockdown on his memories of the day England regained the Ashes and mentioned his daughter was due that day !

Fascinating that the players all talk about this being the start of a good period for England but in reality this was sadly the peak of the team before the Flower years, thanks to the injury crisis they went through shortly after this.
