I wish Indian broadcasters had conducted similar discussions in India, we are so obsessed with stats we don't talk about progress of game at all...
We are obsessed with progress of Indian Cricket rather. It makes no sense in making t20 teams and filling them up with some internationals and destroying international cricket. Anyway BCCI will kill anyone who talks such sensible things on Indian TV.
SportsTak bro...Subscribe, they discuss cricket in depth.

Here is Ipl it's all about batsman and million of money it's enough
Test cricket will survive if there is good quality bowling and good pitches with immense competition
Warne is absolutely correct need to educate the people about the test cricket and it has to be cleared are modern generation really wanted to play test cricket I have doubt see the one eng test matches no team.is ready to work hard for survive when the conditions tough
Its clear high rates indian batting surrender on the second innings on both test matches even eng land did the same so it's obvious test matches level.is faded
This was a fantastic discussion. This is what broadcasters should be promoting. Healthy, meaningful discussion sitting with the fans.
Totally agreed bro, that's how you promote.
Yep
Mark Nicholas is one of my favorite cricket commentator, love your job Mark, always raising issues about match awareness and especially post match analysis is what you are good at.
He's my favorite too!
He's the most hated in Australia. We don't think he should even be a commentator, never played test cricket. Only county cricket. And not very good at that either. So he has no idea what its like to play test cricket. How can he comment on it.
@@leeroyc4148 harsha bhogle also has no experience in international cricket. Still he is there as a commentator and a classic commentator. Mark Nicholas is also a classic commentator

Shane Warne

I'm still in shock...shaking my head in disbelief, my heart aching for Warnie's family. RIP Shane Warne, so sad you had to leave us so soon.

Please continue doing such discussions! Thanks a lot !!!
I want test cricket to stay as a 5 day contest. However I'm a fan of more day-night test matches, atleast people who work 9 to 5 can watch the game after work.
Yeah I want it to stay as a 5 day contest too :-)
Test match will continue for 365 days,,,,5 days is very short,,,,in the upcoming days Time wasting Test, 50 over odi both will get a sit in a dustbin,,,,,,Only T20,T10 will & should be the future of the nice game cricket
@@amlanjyotighosh6687you have no idea what you are saying..smoke less weed lol
Don't mess with my 5 day test matches!!
I am with you bro 🤚🤚. T20 should be only on domestic level. Test match should get more fascinating and need more crowds and promote it more. Test cricket is more special than any other format cause best side always wins.
@@chang-jungkarki1684 Test cricket needs to be promotes yes. But not at the cost od t20s. Cricket will eventually lose its fan following if it doesn't evolve with today and future's time. People have way to many options to get entertained. People don't have the patience to wait 5 days and get a draw at the end of it. T20 is a blockbuster movie. Test cricekt can be a very good TV show.

Michael Holding wasn't just one of my favorite cricketers ever, he's also one of my favorite commentators as well.
THis is what sports discussions should be like famous cricket pundits discussing Cricket surrounded by the kids and fans old and young alike a very human discussion love it.
From New Zealand i desperately want the blackcaps to play more test cricket, but we can't get the crowds, its not economically viable and its slowly going out the back door. Michael Holding has the right idea.
It's difficult with such a small population. And it appears Rugby is the dominant sport in NZ. I think teams like India, England and Australia need to tour more often in NZ and play more substantial series. 3 or 4 test matches. I think 2 match series' are completely pointless.
Josh C kinda tough when a good number of the population can’t be bothered with cricket
@@InFiiLtRaTor Saying Rugby seems to be the "dominant sport" is incorrect. Children play football more than Rugby, and Cricket is played more than Rugby in NZ. It's just not advertised
What's up world champion?
If the West Indies start winning again, test cricket will slowly start to recover. You need a team that wins but you need a team that wins in style. There's a video of Malcolm Marshall bowling in 1987 in Christchurch and the Stadium is packed, with the exception of a few empty seats in the bleachers
I watch each and every ball of the test matches. People ask me if there is something wrong with me. But I love watching the game.
What a brilliant discussion. So much joy for the spectators sitting right next to them.
I think these 5 gentlemen have made some valid points about the state of international cricket. The card idea of Michael Holding is out standing.
It's terrible

This is an absolute brilliant piece of content. Big ups to Supersport for putting this together!
Long live test cricket ,agree with Smith t20 should be domestic
Test cricket is best in the world 🏏🏏
When an entire group of experts choses five different west Indians as their favorite cricketers of all time, you know how invincible they were and how good they played.
I think its more to do with age. Most will list their childhood heroes. And also the WI was legendary because of the sheer dominance it had. Statistically and also as a visual thing.
Michael Holding is a gentleman and played the game the gentleman way. He is fiery fast bowler but never swore at the batsman. If the bowler is 100% sure that he can dismiss the batsman, he will not resort to these gamesmanship issues, whether you would like to call that as banter or sledging or mental disintegration etc. Yellow card and Red card make a lot of sense because they are aimed at eliminating bad behavior, and bullies will be put on notice right way. Characters like Michael slater, Mitchell johnson, Andre Nell, Mitchell starc , David Warner, will be vary of the issues, and if they persist with their wares, will face the music. Well said, Mike.

@@bhlj6062 haha, that was the exact thing I was thinking
The stump mics should be up full volume for the umpires and commentators. That would lead to zero ambiguity.
Micheal Holding what a legend still relevant.....Amazing insights.
Michael Holding makes so much of sense. I actually hope that ICC decides to creates divisions although they just announced the Test Championships. Honestly, test match cricket is actually lot more fun to watch than just players slogging the ball to the fence in T20s.
terrible idea i think
Players slogging the ball on flat tracks and getting called batsman. It's a shame honestly

T20 is not a cricket. It is a business. It just does not leave any room for showing class and using brains-it is simply slogging without thinking. I am okay with a shortened ODI (35 overs). This will keep the game interesting throughout and is short enough for the modern day.

Wonderful cricket discussion with four legends of the game and one of the absolute best commentators in Mark Nicholas. Great to see the fans in the background too, they are after all the soul of the game. Loved every second of this.
What a fantastic discussion this was..Just fascinating...I have always loved the way Mark Nicholas conducts a show. And just superlative articulation by all the experts here.
That is fabulous piece of coverage.. 👏
And it was very good throughout the whole series too.
Hearing Shane Warne speak really makes one think he has more sense than to put something wrong in his body and depart from this world. Man we needed him more in this world to be a mentor to more youngsters. Missing you maestro.
That's how you promote a game. I wish such discussions to be held everywhere round the Cricketing nations. Mark Nicholas has done such a great job bringing out the actual view points of Legends towards the current Scenario of game. Yeah, we love Test matches and it needs to be promoted and advertised likewise Shorter formats. Its the wonderful format of the game out of three where a best side always wins. I agree with the point that T20 should be limited only upto domestic levels and the public interest for test and ODI matches should be high.
Loved this whole discussion with those legends. I wish we get much more conversations like this in future too. Mark Nicholas, you. are the best. 😍😍
And yeah, Smith and Mikey were absolutely right with their words. T20 has led the level of Test and ODI cricket down so i hope its the perfect idea of T20's role in only domestic level

The ball topic is my favourite subject.
I think what I'm about to say is more fair and understandable as suggested by the panelists.
For many years Australia have been championing the kookaburra ball as 'the test ball'.
Everyone knows however that the kookaburra ball is not a great ball.
The best cricket ball ever manufactured is the reader cricket ball.
This cricket ball very rarely if ever loses its shape. It has more lacquer on it , is hand stiched and reverse swings best.
In 1992 and 1996 when Pakistan toured England a toss was made to see which ball should be used , the reader or the duke ball.
On both occasions Pakistan won the choice of ball and chose the reader ball.
This particular ball had a tendency to reverse swing in test cricket from about the 60th over and it would reverse in very late.
Pakistani bowlers wasim and waqar used to reverse the ball with inswinging yorkers as this ball would boomerang in.
I remember in the 6th test of the 1981 ashes test when Ian Botham got the ball to reverse swing at the oval. However he didn't do it at yorker length.
In terms of what should be allowed to be done to the ball.
1.apply saliva , sweat and fingernails.
2.You should be allowed to throw the ball from the deep 1 bounce on the square to gain reverse swing.
3.Shine on trousers
4.Everything else should be outlawed.
fingernails? to clean dirt but not to scuff the ball or pick at the seam surely?
I absolutely agree with you, ditch the kookaburra, use the duke ball.
Don't agree with fingernails. No sharp objects or rough objects to change the condition of the ball. If a player needs to clean the seam, then it should ONLY be done in the presence of an umpire. Anything else should be deemed as tampering.
Lollies, gum or candy I'm not convinced of, most payers chew gum or suck lollies/candy. These should all be tested though to see if they somehow enhance the ball condition. With maybe a list of approved gum and candy, this takes the ambiguity away.
The conditions matter too. You can't use a duke ball in places like India, south Africa or Australia because the duke or reader ball are suited for conditions like england. If you use the duke or reader ball on hard pitches they will scuff up very quickly and will get soft very quickly too.
This segment was fantastic. Just the idea of these cricketing legends sitting amongst the crowd and discussing the game is just great. Also, Mikey was on fire.
M SO glad, this Debate on the Future of Cricket during RSA vs AUS series is available online. Great inputs, Its important some rules go in favor of Bowlers.

Great discussion. We should have the duke or reader - dead pitches, promotion of test cricket, context they are all real issues
I think test cricket should be marketed like golf which appeals to a certain class of spectator.

This was a great discussion. Now that the world test championship already in place, with the 1st cycle completed, I would love to see the same discussion happen and how different to they speak of test cricket in general. test cricket is best cricket... icc should carry on 5day test and 50 over cricket also.. icc should reduce t20 cricket...
Irfan Abir T20 will stay as it is because it generates the highest revenue for Cricket Boards and the ICC as you see that T20’s regularly sell out stadiums and bring in a lot of sponsorships.
Yes, get rid of international t20 cricket and keep it as a domestic game.

Irfan Abir I agree with you mate, T20 has led the value of Test and ODI down in recent times. It should be limited in only Domestic propose.

Micheal Holding the voice of cricket period!!!
The deep interest in test cricket is not having two divisions or a test championship..No,it is each individual test series against each new opponent..Winning a series is a matter of national pride.
Actually T20i is most competitive for me i noticed in recent time atleast some teams can win away from home The cricket longer format now a days always home team is wining why they prepared Pitch as per their strength so make more multi nation tournaments of t20 and keep odi and test in bylateral series agree with shane warn some points remove field rules in odi and let bowl how much some 1 can bowl
amazing discussion , waiting for more like it
Looking at these legends. It makes me miss my childhood. I don't realise how much we loved watching cricket
Good point made by Graeme Smith. Have T20 as domestic competition only like the IPL and big bash and have only test matches and one day cricket at international level. The 50 over cricket World Cup was just played in England and it was brilliant!! Plus England won!! Even better!!
Test cricket is best format in all three it tests mental strength temperament and patience
I'd have these 4 guys in my playing 11 any day, not only because they are legends, but for the different flavours they add to the English language, but this of course is off topic ;-)
Wonderful discussion on future of cricket. I can’t agree more with Smith, T20 cricket should be limited to domestic level only. I don’t understand why people think test cricket is dying. It is becoming more and more exciting in this T20 era, batsmen are more aggressive and bowlers have become clever. I just loved IND VS SA series recently.

Excellent debate! Everyone had different views and very interesting views. Funnily I agree with all of them despite opposing views.
Test cricket is the equivalent of a classical book, one day cricket is a paper back novel and T20 is the comic strip equivalent. Each format requires different skills and appeals to different audiences.
No problems with test cricket here in England. The grounds are always full
But most of crowd is elderly
What a wonderful forum to discuss cricket and see future from the eyes of true cricketing visionaries. Would have been even more wonderful if it had S Tendulkar, R Dravid, Sangakkara, N Hussain, R Raja and M Vaughan into the discussion.
Sadly i dont see anyone from NZ, Zim, current Aussie, Pak & WI generation capable of making such discussions.
Sledging is ok. If it is not physical. Aggression is part of game.
Excellent Mikey...you are spot on..yellow and red card concept should come. Also as he said 20 20 should stay with domestic and Test should be promoted as that's the pinnacle and players fees should be the highest for test as well as in sponsorships. That way it will push the younger generation to appreciate the beauty of test which is a fascinating contest between bat and ball. Cricket is not about hitting sixes every ball..
Interesting comments. About T20... Having starting playing it at 14yrs old (30yrs ago) I loved the concept. When the ECB brought it in domestically in 2003 I had a discussion with my Dad and we both agreed at the time that this format would take over the game in under 10yrs! Why? Yes, it's exciting and crash-bang-whallop, but it's also pure! You don't have to mess around with the rules, like 50vs cricket as to! There is room for all the formats and I agree with the panellists on keeping T20 for domestic audiences and a WC every 4yrs. Tests should be for 6 or 7 nations and then the others can concentrate on ODI and T20 World Cups! Tests should be the pinnacle of the game, and again as a kid growing up in the 90s it felt like every team touring England was the best in the world! Apart from the Ashes battles, they don't seem to have the same relevance anymore.
All the guys have given valid points
I bet only Test cricket lovers would have watched the entire discussion
T20 has ruined cricket
test cricket is pure class....the atmosphere is so good and enjoyable....the silence of the crowd and peace....
i love the days of 1970's and 1980's when only tests were more played....legends like sir richard hadlee, ian botham, martin crowe, viv richards, ambrose....they all have become legends because they excelled in tests....
nowdays we hardly find legends....
i like what sir greame smith said-"limit t20 cricket to just leagues around the world like IPL, BBL OR PSL"
Hats off Michael holding. No sledging. Yellow card , red card. T20 only domestic... wow goosebumps
Agree with Micheal holding. Absolutely meaningful discussion lads. 👍
Shane Warne doesn't seem to agree with Mikey suggestion of penalties to awful sledging.... and that awkward moment between Warne and Smith because that history of Biff exposing what was said on the field by Warnie and his crew
Jonathan King all there www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/05/29/1022569795699.html
Vintage Waugh and his side set a bad precedent I suppose "groomed" by Allan Border, now it's backfiring and most people who were in support of all this have turned against a certain David Warner
Repeating foul and abusive language should be banned, that's not too hard for umpires to enforce, heavy fines and banned. The players probably wouldn't care about any test match bans, however, with the fat cheques from India.
Now isn't that interesting ? because Australian's don't want to hear from you either and think you need to keep quiet for quite some time.
What if the stump microphone doesn't pick the abuse up and the umpire didn't hear it ? Does the perpetrator get away with it or does he get fined on the word of the batsman ? I'm beginning to think it would be best to ban talking between opposing team members on the field altogether. This would be a little bit sad, but it's probably the only surefire way of eradicating sledging from the game.
I really believe such important discussions on the future of cricket should include representatives from all major cricketing nations, not just Australians and South Africans. This will eliminate bias in the feedback for the future of cricket and give a more fair perspective on what should happen for the future of cricket. Major cricketing nations are England, Pakistan, India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Michael Holding is a real top bloke. Jamaica should be proud of him...
It's always really fun hearing mikey bash T20 cricket.
to sum up - What a great survey on live TV - Here we go!
20-20 is like fast-food and it has reduced bowlers to garbage. I agree with these gentlemen that 20-20 be limited to domestic only. Shane Warne's idea of no fielding restrictions in one-day matches is certainly worth trying out, it can make one day cricket further interesting. Not restricting no. of overs a bowler can bowl is another interesting concept. For test matches, I personally feel they should be reduced to 4 days. Each side bats for one day (90 overs). If the batting side is bowled out before the end of day, the other team utilizes the remaining overs. There must be a win/loss result, concept of draw must be eliminated.
When did Mark Nicholas become anchor on Supersport? I thought Haysman was the anchor....
Completely agree with Holding. Context for the T20 is pointless at the international level, merely a series of quick and fast games wedged in in front of or behind the main attraction (Test matches), as a quick way to make a few dollars.
Holding has echoed exactly verbatim what I have said for years. Let T20 be completely privatised (Big Bash, IPL etc), and at an international level just ask the cricketers to play Tests and ODIs, with a hastily assembled T20 tournament every four years.
the guy with the MR. Bean mask looking at the camera , hilarious.
Fabulous discussion indeed! Wish ICC follows what they said
This is great discussions... And three of these four international cricketers are great bowlers .... Because past cricket was great cause of bowlers...today cricket has become baseball and batters have become brand ambassador of cricket.
wow i want to hear them talk all day
Agree absolutely about having 20/20 as domestic only. The test players are absolutely knackered travelling around. The big bash, IPL, and all the rest are excellent for what they are, there is NO CONTEXT for 20/20 international cricket
Nicholas Wood this way cricket will never reach a wider audience and will only be limited to a certain audience and that is not good for the sport as well.
20/20 is bringing more crowd in and the fast paced game is perfect for today's world where nost of the people dont have time to watch a 5 day match
Kushagra Jalal the IPL is fine, the Big Bash is fine. Watching Australia v west Indies at 20/20 holds little interest without context. A world cup 20/20 has value. Random 20/20 international matches mean little outside the world cup
One important aspect they seem to have missed is to make test cricket free to air!
Excellent work #legends
I have an idea for One day cricket if anyone is listening. You count the 50 overs as 300 balls and each bowler can bowl maximum of 60 balls. Now it is up to the fielding team to decide how many balls does the bowler get to bowl (still minimum 6 balls)He can ball 10 balls if he likes and then switch ends for a bowling change. That would be a great leveller between bat and ball since the bowler can out think the batsmen more often then now.
What a superb conversation and look at the conversations in the subcontinent like who is better Babar or Virat, better captain Virat or Dhoni, rift between Rohit and Virat. Silly!
