He made tailenders pratically run from there crease. Expensive at times with good batsmen, but i wouldn't mind that if he took the key wickets :)

      Yes it was the 2nd test England v New Zealand in Christchurch in 1978. Geoff Boycott was scoring too slowly in the 2nd innings and England needed quick runs to have enough time to declare and bowl NZ out. Ian Botham was sent out to get quick runs and Bob Willis sent him out to run out Boycott. England declared 279 runs ahead and bowled out NZ for 105 to win the match.

    From the last 10 years, England team is in the "rebuilding" stage. Every time they lose badly, ECB says that they are in a rebuilding phase. This bullshit never ends. It's about time that ECB and Andrew Strauss take full responsibility of the recent debacles (first the horror series in India and now the Ashes). They say that KP's fans need to move on, but the bitter truth is that despite the passing of four years, they haven't found a suitable replacement for him. And they haven't found anyone to replace Swann and Panesar either.

    There a few positives for England despite a very poor series. Stoneman has shown he can play for periods of time. Vince has also shown he does have a technique for test cricket it's more of a mental thing to flash at the ball (they both can only get better from here). And lastly England should stick with crane as a front line spinner and give him the confidence to flight the ball

    • @MLaak86
      @MLaak86 6 лет назад +2

      Glimpses of potential - perhaps. But if Vaughan says Stoneman was trying to prepare by facing underarms in the nets - when will he ever step Up? I remember a report in a newspaper in 1989 about a Test in the Ashes series of that year which began with the words “England achieved the impossible here yesterday... they got even worse.” This was the series where England lost the series 4 to nil and would have been 6 but for rain.
    Since then, with only a few exceptions, a report from a Test in every series against Australia could have included those very same words.
    That was particularly true of the last Ashes series in Australia recently, England losing 4 to nil and only I more wicket would have meant 5 to nil.
    It is a shame that Geoff Boycott last played years ago, he played with a grit and determination that few English batsman have done since, with some notable exceptions like Ben Stokes, and even he was born in New Zealand, not in England or the British Isles.

  • @robvikingoneaviation

    Boycott is old school Yorkshire, a place and time that produced tough, no-nonsense, plain speaking men, who usually worked hard dangerous industrial jobs and had no time for frivolities and BS. The harshness of life was written in their faces and the way they spoke. In today's soft, snowflake "what about muh feelings?" media and marketing driven age, he seems an anachronism because he speaks the truth plainly and without a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down. When he's gone we'll miss him...

    If England are going to compete out in Australia. It would be nice to see a guy come in and be able to bowl 90mph on a consistent basis. A quality leg spinner would be a great a weapon.. We missed Ben stokes alot in the middle order and with his bowling... To many collapses and not making the most of good positions. Need to show more guts and patience.

      KangBros TV ... Hi to all at KangBros TV... Thanks for your reply... I'm a massive fan of test cricket...and like to be very honest whether England play good or Rubbish... The recent ashes was simple. Australia wanted it more than us... County cricket in England has to play a massive role on how it's going to develop its Test side. Don't be afraid of making fast wickets to Encourage our guys to bowl fast... make turning wickets so when we go to say the likes of India we are more technically better. Can u let me know if squad to face New Zealand please thanks... Also one other thing we produce wickets in England to favour our side... So why is it we collapse big time in our own conditions. I would like to hear Sir Geoff boycotts thoughts on that...

    Boycott was honest and I as an Austrailian cricket fan loved his honesty. England didn't really learn last year either from this and went on to be lucky to draw the series at home. I love watching my country win but for the English they need to have a major overhaul in the batting lineup.

    Four years later: Anderson and Broad still as good as ever. Found good backup in Robinson, and Wood has shown he can stay fit for four tests in a series. Still no world class spinner, Crane hasn't developed (or been given the chance to). As for the batting, England would kill for the averages they got in this series!

    I enjoyed what Brett lee had to say. From the very few words he managed to get in! From an Englishman, Lee was right. Cant just be negative. Take away positives. But nearly 4 years on, we've still not learned from what vaughan had to say. Still play on green seamers in county cricket.

    Everyone is criticising Moeen Ali in this series. But what about Cook. 1st test Ali 78 runs. Joe root and Cook 75 runs combined. 2nd test Cook 53 runs Ali 27. 3rd test Cook 21 Ali 11. 4th test Cook 244 Ali 20. 5th test Cook 49 Ali 43.
    So basically take away the double century from Cook, and is there much difference between Cook and Ali with the bat in this series. Let's not forget that Ali is essentially a batsmen who can bowl decent spells. If he was playing higher up the order he'd have made more runs for sure He's made a score above 35 in tests from opening all the way down to number 9. I can't think of another player to have done this

    This video was from the last Ashes Down Under. Writing this on 28th Dec, 2021 and England's frailities have only got worse. Batting minus Root is laughable and that is the huge problem along with catching. Bowling looks promising and in time they should move away from this ridiculous over-reliance on two men in their mid-late 30s
