    I don't understand this praise for Cook, he was dropped on 60-something and dropped again on 120-something, that's 2 easy catches gone down. He then goes on to score 240-something and people say he is back in form and playing well. I know that batsman need luck along the way to a big score, but being dropped twice is not the sign of a batsman playing exceptionally well. He was back to his dismal self for the 5th Test. I think England should look for a replacement. Can't rely on him anymore, they need to look for the future. Maybe I'm just a biased Aussie that can't see his value to the team.
    The hate for Swann is a bit unfair, he may have seemed like a bit of a prat on the field, but in the commentary box he tells some great stories and does funny impressions of cricketers from around the world. He's good value. I enjoyed his input on the radio.

    Our next overseas test tour after this video was to Sri Lanka where we won using another spinner in leach. Plus we’ve found our 90mph odd test bowler in archer. But I think being the best one day side in the world is hampering our test team. All the batsmen who are in our one day side that are also picked for test cricket seem to think they have to attack all the time. I think we need to look at our batting line up and maybe discard some of the one day players for guys who are suited for test cricket.

    To be brutally honest, talking about Ben Stokes having shot himself in the foot is a wrong call. That was a bar brawl. Nobody could have had known the ramifications of that act. It all depends on who instigated the fight. And Australia played as unit. Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Shaun and Mitch Marsh, Tim Paine the keeper, Mitch-Pat-Josh-Nathan firing all cylinders. To even suggest that England's hopes were dependent on on guy and not players like Joe Root, Alistair Cook, Johnny Bairstow, Moeen Ali is just trying to play the blame game and making Ben Stokes the fall guy.

  • @movieklump
    @movieklump 6 лет назад +16

    Australia prepare fair wickets. England cannot blame the wickets which were very good for batting.
    On the other hand England cheat when preparing wickets. On the last tour there were newspaper front pages in England asking what sort of wicket to prepare to beat Australia.
    In my mind that is not good sportsmanship to get an unfair advantage, but don't worry India cheat as well.
    There should be an international body that inspects pitches that are made to be fair. That is fast on day one good for batting on two and three then good for spinners just like the SCG was for the fifth test.

    always nice to look back, so the following series in England the one Swann did not think this aussie team had a hope was a 2/2 draw, of course the following series was once again a dominant aussies at home, 2023 will be interesting, the team the aussies will have bar injury will be the best team we have had for a long time, Green will be better than his debut series, Boland will likely tour and on the english pitches will be a nightmare to play, the usual quicks are still going great, smith, laba, ussie, head are locks and will cause problems, the only issues I see for the aussie team is warner, yes he just scored a double against SA but that is here, I would not be surprised if warner struggles and retires after the series. I agree to an extent.To explain the loss of the series down to the absence of one player is plucking at straws. There is absolutely no guarantee that Stokes would have performed. To say that Stokes is the only one with spirit, drive and commitment is a damning indictment on the rest of the English team and also unfair, I think. For me, the selection and preparation were off the mark, a Boycott said at the start. Australia will always be tough in Australia and to go in with inadequate players and proper warm-up matches is incompetence on the part of the management team. The England batting was poor to say the least and many of them gave away their wickets to fast but not unplayable deliveries and un-extraordinary spin bowling.

    Australia were the better team. Simple.
    Yes the selectors made an absolute hash of the England 11. Bairstow batting at 7 for the first 3 test was ridiculous considering he’s the 3rd best batsman in the team. Not picking Crane until the 5th test was a farce and picking 4 seamers who bowl 80mph and rely on swing to get wickets was stupid. All the selectors and Strauss should be gone.
    However, Australia much better team and would have always won in my opinion.

    • @RBenjo21
      @RBenjo21 5 лет назад

      Aj13 Fast but inaccurate doesn’t work. 4x80mph is better than a wayward Mark Wood, Steve Finn, etc. If we had Ben Stokes in the Ashes we’d have that fast, 88-90mph, bowler.
      Anderson stood up in the Ashes, with his 17 wickets. No one else did, Woakes in particular was horrible that series.

    Following players I don't get why England did not pic; Liam Plunkett or Stuart Meaker to replace injured Finn, Adil Rashid and either Reece Topley or Harry Gurney. How can England not have produced any decent left hand fast bowlers of test standard since Ryan Sidebottom and Alan Mallaly? Big loss was the pace of a fully fit Mark Wood. Why do they not have patients with Rashid? I would also have picked Ravi Bopara as competition for Moeen for the batting allrounder position. I actually liked the Vince selection but felt it was bad prep that he had not played much cricket at international level leading up to the Ashes. Would have taken Bell.

    English bowlers don't have the same venom outside of England. This is the worst English batting line up in a while. Combine those with Stokes incident, and it's easy to see why England capitulated.
    Starc is 27, and Hazelwood is 26, and Cummins is 24. If these 3 stay healthy, I don't see England winning Ashes in Australia for quite a while.

    2023, after Ashes 21-22, it looks more prudent that it'll be years before the current England side regains the Ashes. At least the series will be draw in England, meanwhile in Australia, England gets pummeled since 2013-14 series.

    4-0 was a little flattering to Australia. Unlike in 13-14, England were in most of the games, and had a strong chance of winning in Brisbane and Melbourne. They also fought back in Adelaide extremely well, and the Australian hopelessness against swing bowling means England (who are much improved now) will dominate in 2019.

    Imho England are an ordinary side without x factor Stokes if u compare it with this Australian side. Anderson on English pitches, Cook and Root are the only ones with credentials and Bairstow will probably cement his place for yrs to come. Yeah the rest of those new ones showed some bottle here and there but giving ur wicket away, like lots of these guys constantly do, or bowl a bad ball, is usually not a good sing.They mentioned Lyon who is miles ahead of the English (part time) spinners coz i havent seen them bowl a ball to the likes of Smith or Warner like Lyon did to Cook today. Also their quicks are real proper test match fast bowlers who will end their carreers, bar injuries, with probably 300+ wickets at maybe even low in the twenties averages.
