  • Channel 4's full highlights package from an iconic day for English cricket as Nasser Hussain's team win in the dark on the final day of the final test in Karachi.
Mark Nicholas presents from the stadium and Dermot Reeve and Simon Hughes are your commentators (recording their commentary hours after the action had taken place, over the already-edited pictures from a London studio).
Also of note is that these winter highlights programmes were produced by TWI rather than Sunset and Vine, who were the producers of all of Channel 4's summer cricket.
Apologies for some ropey audio quality in places.

Who is watching this after England just winning now?

Steve Bucknor said to Moin Khan and the Pakistan players that the game was going to be played to a finish even if they had to play until midnight so their slow over rate and the general holding up of the game wasn’t going to work. Well done Steve Bucknor!!!

A total classic. Weakest area for England was Dermot Reeve’s commentary. Excruciating to listen to.

How come you have all of these? Did you just record every single cricket show as a kid? Thanks so much for the upload!!

You could tell how dark it was by the flashes on the photographers cameras. You see them very brightly. And you could also see the lights on in the pavilion dressing rooms. The light in Rawalpindi was almost like midday, compared to here!

I well remember this era and was thirty at the time. England triumphed over Pakistan in 2000 and have repeated it 22 years later at Rawalpindi. I am now aged 52 and impressed with Ben Stokes' captaincy. Darren Gough seen here in his pre-Strictly champion days!

No one should be playing cricket in that kind of light

I think TWI produced all of the winter England tours back then for Sky sports. The score bit in the corner is from Sky. I remember watching the documentary about the first tour they did in the West Indies in 1990 and TWI produced that. Great video!! So good to see this, many thanks. 👍👍

Terrible sound quality from Channel Four. Great memories though.

Typical Pakistan, trying every trick in the book to waste time and then whingeing to the umpire about the light.
