Here after Shane Warne's untimely death. Watching this video of him in better time. He was an immensely good cricketer and an all-round lover of the sport. Clearly a classy bloke also, shaking KP's hand and congratulating him in his century. What a player and what a man. RIP Shane. The game of cricket will never, ever forget you. ♥️😭
Warney was the best and most dangerous bowler I’ve ever seen. He was also very good mates with KP from their time together at Hampshire so of course he shook his hand and of course he loved to get him out. Two top professionals who just loved the contest. And that’s what test cricket is, a contest that tests you against the best of the best of any given era. When outclassed as England were for 18 years it can seem completely merciless as it should be. Love the game to be honest, it shapes characters and champions and for me in my lifetime Shane Warne was the epitome of that

10 years ago, but i remember it like it was just yesterday. watched the whole series at home and while i was away in spain. a really special series of cricket for this country. funny watching vaughan lift something so insignificant in size yet with so much imprtance and history to english cricket. just hope we can regain them this summer, although it is unlikely
The oval match has to go down as my favourite of all time. The tension was unbelievable. Freddie was superb...but KP's 158 words fail me :) I don't think there will be anything like it ever again. The whole 5 matches.. Oz were superb. McGrath and Warney exceptional...We'll never see anything like that again in my lifetime.
I am from Nepal i have watched all these series live and this was best test series of all time..thanks for the legends who were the part of this series
Love the spirit of sportsmanship shown by Warne and Gilchrist. They played hard, very intense but at the end of the day they appreciated good cricket by the opponent.
and now KP has retired. Top batsman when he's in full swing yet arguably one of the most disputed cricketer apart from few others of his time. Farewell, KP. It's been a real pleasure.
Thanks for this video mate! What an incredible innings by KP. Given the pressure, the accumulated tension over the summer and the weight of history, that 158 has got to be one of the greatest innings of all time and the 2005 ashes one of the greatest series ever
This incredible ashes series deserves a documentary because aussies were considered invincible at that time & England rose like phoenix (who takes birth from its ashes) to beat them..!!
Watched this live on TV, amazing series, KP rode his luck but boy did he step up after lunch and took the game away from Australia. That's what the great players do, when the pressure is on the most.
As you get older you get more sentimental, and the sight of the greatest spin bowler of all time running the length of the pitch to congratulate Pieterson on winning the series for England, has reduced me to tears, even 19 years later. Still the greatest game in the world.
imo none of the 3 most recent ashes series have been even 1/100th as good as this one, not only because of the cricket played but the personalities involved
@@harryjones3906 The last test was legendary but as a series this one is still a long way off (That might change), I think Graham is right about the personalities too, where are they in these 2 teams? Stokes and ..?
My first choice of series when ever I want to watch any old matches. I always wondered after all of this when KP had century, Gilchrist was clapping, when KP got out Warne shaking hands. Flintoff congratulates Hayden. Now a days hard to find...
that catch dropped by warne turned out to be the turning point of the series im surprised nobody went up to warne and told him "youve dropped the ashes" :P
Don't forget, Warne was single-handedly keeping Australia in it. It felt like Warne vs England at times. McGrath came back and England neutralized him. So Shane stepped up and did his thing. Warne was the hero of this match. Dropped catch and all. An absolute warrior.
The way shane warne congrats kp after the 100. It shows he was a great sports person and unbiased sports fan. He always respect great cricket either its by the opposition team player. Great sports person. Magician. We always loved him. Love from india.
I remember the moment England won the Ashes in 2005. I was sat on the lavatory, the lips of my dung hatch poised expectantly, having not been for a poo in 5 days. Arguably this has to be the series of the century.. Although ind-aus 2001 series was way too good but this has been the best.. I was 17 that time around had watched all the five matches live on TV by bunking all those 25 days of college.. Kp and bell was debutante though Kp played knock of his life in this 2nd inns..
I was at there that day.. don't remember much except Warne dropping Pietersen and then Pietersen dropping bombs into the crowd. I was so pissed that the rest is a blur. After the first test McGrath said they would win it 5 - 0 so when he came to field at the boundary we were having some good banter with him.. he took it pretty well.. hundreds of people chanting at him. It was special because prior to this, this Australian side had been the dominant force in cricket and this was the end of arguably their greatest ever side, maybe even the greatest side of all time. When you look at the players they had it's scary. England needed a bit of luck, but the bowling attack were fantastic that series and McGrath's freak injury helped turn the tide. What a series!
The greatest & the loudest cheer ever in the game of cricket at the sight and signal of the umpire as play being called for the day and for the series.
They just caught Australia who didn’t bother to prepare properly after their conquering of the final frontier when they finally won in India in 2004. With Gillespie randomly losing the plot they realised they didn’t have quality in back up bowling, Brett Lee suddenly had to step up from short spell enforcer to frontline pace bowler, Hayden and Martyn had no idea once the ball started swinging and Gilchrist was kept down by Flintoff. Suddenly you had a not so great side only held up by Warne, Ponting and Glenn McGrath when he wasn’t injured.
Even from Australia you could feel the drama of this series was going to deliver something special, from the tube bombing coinciding. With the start of the series, i think the poms were looking for something to lift the country's spirit and from the very first couple of balls when langer got struck you knew this was not going to be just another hum drum series as the past have been and the end it came down to two dropped catches leading up to the final test ,final day and final session before England could breathe easy knowing the ashes were theirs
