Bro, yr all nuts. Maxi's 201 when Australia were 7/91 in the 2023 world cup is the absolute pinnacle of pressure.
Undoubtedly the greatest ODI ever! 400 at that time was unimaginable and chasing it was simply unthinkable!
Still remember, my father was watching news at that time and there was scorecard showing, South Africa on 399 and I thought that it is some error but I hurriedly switched on to the match and was fortunate enough to see South Africa win!
Childhood memories refreshed after seeing this video!

For me 2nd innings is more of a motivational course in life, then just a play of cricket.
Vividly remember this game. I was at the dentist then, my first ever dentist appointment. They were showing this on the TV in the waiting area. I came out and SA were racing at around the 8th over mark. I hurried my Mom back home, hoping that they'd win because what a story it would be! And also, because back then we all hated the Aussies because they were THAT GOOD! Got home. Didn't miss a ball. Was jumping and cheering at the end of it. I was all of 9 then. Distinctly remember the SA cricketers jumping off the balcony and an old couple in the Audience crying and kissing each other. I understood what sport can do. A classic game. Beautiful memories.

That is why South Africa are the ODI kings of world cricket. Having highest win % out of all teams.
Yeah, they have the highest win % in ODI (just) but you can't seriously call them 'Kings of ODI cricket' without winning a single WC.

Sorry I must disagree … the best ODI team is Australia ( and I’m from South Africa) . It’s simple Australia have won more World Cups than anyone else .. no argument finished. In the same way the best Rugby Union Team is the Springboks and the Best Soccer Team is Brazil. When you have a World Cup in a sport THAT what you have to win … nothing else. And NOTHING else counts! To use an analogy … when studying a professional degree, either you pass or fail the final exams … what you did in the previous 4 years is nice … but what counts is the FINAL exam… If you can’t handle the pressure there sorry but that the “ Big one” . In cricket South Africa are the biggest chokers, in Rugby Union it’s France and in Soccer it’s the Netherlands… all have great players no disrespect… amazing talent … hard working … and play amazing games … but for whatever reason they just can’t put that final performance in when it counts! As a current international sportsman I can tell you, you actually feel bad for your competitors ( if you are a decent human being) when you see such brilliant teams failing at the final hurdle … my heart goes out to them especially teams such as the Netherlands in soccer who have had such brilliant teams such brilliant players and fall at the last hurdle. Although I am also of Italian descent and would like Italy to win a 5th World Cup …. I would always support the Netherlands in a World Cup final if playing someone else … simply because they deserve it. At least one thing about South Africans is we actually don’t even get disappointed when the Proteas choke anymore … it’s normal now !

Certainly the greatest international one day cricket match ever. It was a massive pity that there had to be a losing team in a match so majestic. I'm South African, but considering the Aussies incredible innings posting a world record score at the time, perhaps a draw would have been the perfect result. Of course I was over the moon at the time, but in time my heart went out to the men from OZ. It must have been heartbreaking for them. Bottom line: both teams were just absolutely magnificent in providing a spectacle that will never be forgotten. #Respect

I was there, was one of the most enjoyable days of my life. I took my Bulgarian friend to his first cricket match, he didn't know much about cricket but since then he's become a huge fan.

Australia's score of 434/4 broke the record for highest total in an ODI, beating the previous record by 36. As of 2020, this is the seventh highest.
South Africa's score of 438/9 also broke the record for a highest total in an ODI, and as of 2021 is the equal fifth highest.
Highest successful run chase in an ODI: 438 runs. As of 2024, this record still stands.
Overall
Highest aggregate runs in a match: 872, beating the previous record of 693 (India v Pakistan in 2004).
Most sixes in a match: 26, later broken by New Zealand v India, March 2009 (31 sixes).
Most fours in a match: 89.
Individual
At the time of the match Herschelle Gibbs' innings was the tenth-highest individual score in ODI cricket, and the second-highest by a South African.
Ponting set a new record for the fastest 150 in ODI cricket, reaching the total off 99 balls; Gibbs fell one ball short of matching this in the second innings. This record was then broken at least twice over the following years. The current record now belongs to South African AB De Villiers (150 runs off 64 balls) who scored 162 runs off 66 balls against the West Indies during the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
Mick Lewis finished with bowling figures of 10-0-113-0 which (as of 18 February 2020) remains the most runs conceded in a single ODI match. He was the second bowler to concede 100 runs in an ODI, and the first to do so in a fifty over match (New Zealand's Martin Snedden had previously conceded 105 runs in a sixty over match)

The 2015 World Cup semifinal between NZ and SA to me was the best game in history. The game was in the balance until the last ball.

Only the SA team and G Smith could even think of chasing that total back in the day. People forget that Smith had set the tone for the chase at the top,Gibbs picked up his scoring rate only after Smith was caught at 90.

In cricket history only South Africa holds the record for highest runs chase in both T20Is and ODIs. In the 2006 in ODI match against Australia, South Africa chased run target 435 . And set a new world record in the history of cricket Similarly, South Africa chased the target of 259 runs against West Indies in a T20 match in the year 2023. And one more thing to note is that the South African cricket team has made both these records in their home ground in their country's stadium.
