I literally had goosebumps all the time watching this. Felt nostalgic.. This is the best test match ever and ASHES 2005 is the best test series ever! The end is a bit emotional, it almost made me cry.. And great sportsman spirit by Flintoff there at the end - consoling Brett Lee instead of celebrating the sweet English victory. This is what makes cricket a gentleman's game!
Nice comment bro, I was following the series thoroughly, though I was neither from England nor Australia, it was such a high voltage match, after thirteen years I have watched it again.
U'r comment is so cute bro & makes me nostalgic too. I was following that Ashes series bit by bit, I was preparing for o level exam, now I am grown up man, I have just watched the highlights after thirteen years.
I remember this so clearly. Watching in my living room and thinking we were going to do them and then they slowly crawl back into the game and all of sudden that horribly feeling that you're going to lose - they're going to beat us again right at the death. And then 'tick' catch yeahhhhhhhhh!! I actually jumped in the year and ran into the garden celebrating!!! Just fantastic! Best even ending to a test match. Both teams 100% commitment, I don't know about Australia, but England was alive during this series. Even non cricket fans were talking about it. Brilliant!
This is how to make the perfect cricket video. Highlights, emotions, reactions, succinct commentary, no stupid music or over the top comments. Then the great sense to let the last day's play tell it's own story to just the sound of the crowd. Well done Channel four. If only you would get cricket back instead of having an ignorant buffoon like Botham doing commentary. Fabulous to have been there for the last day with my son, Josh. BTW Thanks Ricky . . . as the song went during the ceremonies . . . you should have batted first.
It will always be my favourite moment of the entire series - the guile, the cunning and the courage to bowl a ball like that to a batsman of Clarke's class was just breathtaking. In deference to Sanjay s's comment, Warne was probably THE bowler of the series but that one delivery by Harmison just stands out for me.
I think the real story here is Freddie. Both of his innings were stunning, he overcame the shoulder bash to produce beautiful shots and the way his eyes lit up as he saw his six fly over the stands was boyish and brilliant. England got the last wicket and Freddie went straight to Brett Lee. Freddie knew he had just played the greatest test match of all time, and he wanted the aussies to know that too
Someone pointed out to me recently that I should watch Vaughn's face when Ponting says Australia will field first. He really is trying not to grin from ear to ear as he realises that Ponting's just gifted him the initiative.
Rhubba and Pontings face when Flintoff pops his shoulder out. I lost a huge amount of respect for Ponting in that moment. I dont understand how you can be happy when a player is injured.
Ponting based his decision on that the team bowling first usually wins at Edgbaston. He missed the vital point: only if it’s overcast! Vaughan clearly couldn’t believe his luck 😆
@@MrMiD.Life.Crisis normally I would agree but our players weren’t exactly sad when McGrath got injured before the game!! Although they didn’t show it publicly, that’s the difference I suppose.
@@mrkipling2201 Vaughany actually looked quite concerned that morning. But like you say, maybe he's just good at hiding it? Hope you're good mate. Im an equal opportunity loser of respect. Any English (or SA) player ;) who was happy at that is a divvy aswell.
I remember this match watching live, what a fight by Australia bad luck in the end but most amazing thing is when players from both side give respect to each other that’s real sportsmanship.
If that was a plot in a sporting film you'd dismiss it as rubbish. Warne, Lee and "Kasper" were incredible that day. The sight of Flintoff consoling a heart-broken Lee at the end is one of sport's greatest images. Had me in tears on the day.
Lovely video, and the best footage I've seen of Flintoff with Lee and Kasprowicz after their amazingly brave fight back came up just short. Everyone else is going bonkers and he thought to do that, amazing but you have to feel for the Aussies, they must have been gutted.
Excellent video made here...Captured every exotic moment of one of the greatest test matches in the history of Cricket..especially highlighting Freddie Flintoff...and excellent way of portraying England's woes when they couldnt get the final wkt..Marvellous effort done by both England team and the uploader.
One of the greatest test matches between two of the greatest competitors! Such genuine joy at the dismissals..... no childishly sickening send-offs as is so common these days. Great sportsmanship from all. Lovely video!
One of the amazing bowl which ever batsman faced, What r spin from warne's golden fingers.... & Freddy u r a legend all rounder ! ! ! End of the last ball speak lot about the 'gentlemen game' from Freddy & Vaughan
best test match i have ever watched. tinged with the knowledge that the last wicket given was an error. gloved it but with his hand off the bat so should have been not out.
There were some players, there was some games, there was some matches and there was some series..that is all in one series and that is the tell of Ashes 2005 how I would describe..far more time interesting then any of the ODI or t20 tournament now days,as a true fan of the game I will pick tests over any format and this series among all👍
This was one of the best Series Period. The series was competitive and had good fight. this type of challenge and sportsmanship could never be squeezed into 3 hours of Cricket(T20).... TEST MATCH CRICKET = REAL CRICKET
I think Macgrath's injury was a huge blow for Australia. He was a proven matchwinner and Australia won or at least drew matches that MacGrath played in that series. But what a fight from Lee and Kasprowicz. For me, there was one stand-out player in that Ashes series whose performance proved to be so vital for England. Flintoff. He was the brand of fearless cricket in that series.
One of the greatest match with a good result and lived up to expectation of Ashes series. Freddie showed the world how can be brutal as a player and showed his class at the end.Left the celebrations in middle and walked up to Lee and consoled him and yes also showed Punter what he is made of.
ThePGtipz 100%. Let me make it very clear, I've never met the man. His intensity on the field is probably unparalleled, I certainly wouldn't fancy playing against him. In all the off the field interviews and just talking about cricket with the love of the game he has, he really comes across as a thoroughly nice guy. No one likes to lose, especially in professional sport, but he never seemed to moan about luck or bitch about it. If you lose, they were better than you on the day, end of story.
Might have been different if McGrath hadn't gotten injured in the warm-up... otherwise dafenetly result will be change... that time McGrath was an extraordinary form...
Kasprawicz hand wasn't on the bat when he gloved it to Jones. If DRS was available in 2005 and he decided to review then the match probably would have had a different ending. I'm happy it didn't
If DRS were there in that time Lee or kasprowic(I am not 100% sure which one) got out LBW when 55 runs required! but in that case England easily won that match but we didn't get this thriller.
Also, if I remember KP got a howler of a call from the umpire in that game in England's second innings. He was given out when the replays showed no glove contact with ball... so many things would've changed had DRS been there.
Wow the end was heartbreaking and heartwarming ... im Australian and I gota say it was good of flintoff to go and consolle Lee who is my fave cricketer that is what you call sportsmanship! great moment in sports IMO
Freddie Flintoff is a class act, going straight to Lee and caspa at the end to congratulate their effort before his own team. Full of respect for the man
England would not have won the 2005 Ashes if Glen McGrath not stepped on a cricket ball on the Edgbaston outfield and missed 2 tests with an ankle injury. The two teams were evenly matched without him. He would have made the difference
In a way, like 81 Botham's Ashes, you could have called this Flintoff's Ashes...but you couldn't really. At one point or another every single player made a contribution of major significance. Every one. I could go through them all. The selectors sure got it right this time :) And what made it even more special was that Australia were at their brilliant best. I wouldn't want to face Lee, McGrath or Warney
The gesture shown by Flintoff when he approached towards Brett Lee and hug him indicates that cricket is a sport and winning and losing are two different sides of the same coin.
This was one hell of A test match.. Goes to show wat aussies are made of.. Yes they are rusty non sportive but boy they are competitive always.. No matter wat..
