    From 137/7 to 175/8 to finally reaching to 279 and falling short of just by 2 runs. This Australian team was absolutely brutal. Have never seen a team as savage as this one. If there batsmen scored 130 they’d make sure to get you out well below that. You could never rest assured against this team unless you took that last 10th wicket or hit that last winning run.

    • @truefunksoul8638
      @truefunksoul8638 3 года назад +21

      To be fair they failed to chase 130 a few times themselves, but yeah they never give up. Australia can win from anywhere, look at Adelaide 2006 and Hobart 1999, both from equal world record Test winning streaks. Don't forget Melbourne 1982 for heartbreak. Can also lose from anywhere as Headingley 1981 and Eden Gardens 2001. Even the mighty West Indies never got close to winning 16 in a row; hard to believe Australia actually did it twice and India stopped them both times.

    I wasn't even watching when the final wicket fell, I couldn't watch. My tv was on in my room and i was pacing the floor, desporate for an English roar. The pressure was too much, the tension too much, everything hinged on this. And then an explosive delivery flicked into the hands of Jones, the roar went up, OUT!!! I danced and celebrated like my country had just won the world cup, but they had just won a test match. The most incredible test match. England won by the slenderest of margins, we won the Ashes that series, and I'll never forget it. Forget football, cricket is where there is tension.

Why can't people enjoy both? Or one? Or neither? It doesnt matter. You like cricket more? And hate baseball? Great, that's amaizng for you, but that doesn't mean cricket is a better sport. eating sugar no papa funnily enough yes I did, I watched both. That is why I saw England lift the trophy after they won the World Cup due to hitting more boundaries than New Zealand after scores were tied. I also watched Stokes be given not out by umpire Wilson, admittedly the wrong call, and therefore went on to score the winning run. If Mr Paine hadn’t wasted his review on a clearly not out call then Australia would’ve won. Perhaps watching stokes pulverise his sides bowling attack and knock them all around the park got to the skipper

    I watched it live and I can't describe the state of disbelief I was in... watching Australia loosing like this.

    Every couple years I’m back watching these highlights, knowing the end result full well, yet I’m on my toes with each delivery.

    I remember this ashes series: it was quite simply the best test cricket I'd ever watched. Looking back the thing that strikes me the most is the sheer joy in this group of players, working hard for each other, but enjoying themselves. Is this why England have gone off the rails in recent years in test cricket? They've lost that joie de vivre, that sheer exuberance and belief that they can give the best teams in the world a real run for their money. I hope England can take a step back and recapture that sheer joy again. Free spirits like Flintoff and Pietersen, combined with the other wonderful players in this great team. Sometimes you just have to let talent play without coaching that talent out of them. The current England side have some great potential, just like this team did back in 2005. Perhaps the trick is to let it blossom rather than stifle it.

    The greatest test match to me was the one at Calcutta when India was forced to follow on, but Laxman scored 281 and Dravid scored 180, to win the match against Australia. It was so inspirational and reaffirmed the essence of any competitive sport: never give up!
