      Reminds me of the Ian Bell - MS dhoni incident

  • @KK-uw7ct
    @KK-uw7ct 4 дня назад +8

    As an Indian, I have an incident to share. Something similar had happened earlier during the Nottingham Test in 2011 between India & England. Just before the Tea break, Ian Bell hit the last ball of the over for a boundary and assumed the ball has gone for four and walked out of his crease. The ball wasn't dead and it was collected and thrown back at stumps and Dhoni took off the bails while Bell was standing in the middle of the pitch chatting with his mate and wondering what just happened. The decision was given out by the umpires and the English crowd started to boo India for spirit of the cricket as if it was India's fault. Post the break, Dhoni withdrew his appeal on being advised by Sachin and Bell was recalled. The English crowd cheered and the English Media applauded India for maintaining the spirit of the cricket. Bell made 150+ runs and India lost that test match. Dhoni was bestowed with the spirit of the cricket award by ICC a decade later but what's the point of that.
    Spirit of the game shouldn't be prioritized over the laws of the game if it involves the recklessness of the players as it takes away the competitiveness. The players are professional and they should be aware of what they are doing. Well done to Australia for maintaining their stance.

      @@Profanity1@Profanity1 if you watch the keeper threw the ball as soon as he got it, Bairstow went on walkabout without looking, his own fault. Your saying its dead as soon as it hits the wicketkeeper s hand. So what if the batsman decided to run, keeper had every right to throw, its dead when the umpire says over and when the keeper passes the bowl to another teammate and the bowler heads back to his bowling position.

    • @RandomGuy-bx1cd

      Because at that time, the ball wasn't successfully collected by the keeper. It's called a Bye. A situation where the batter fails to make contact with the ball, and the keeper fails to collect it.
      In this situation, the ball was collected successfully and Bairstow wasn't taking a single or any kind of advantage.
      If Bairstow was already outside the crease, or they were planning to take a run, then keeper has full rights to take action.

      NO. Completely different - because For me, walking or not walking is no longer a "Spirit of Cricket" issue since the introduction of DRS reviews. Broad didn't walk - but the Aussies had used up their reviews. Use of reviews are part of the game now, so not walking because you've burned your reviews is no longer a spirit of cricket issue.
      Prior to DRS - yes - I might agree, but after DRS - Sorry, using your reviews sensibly is part and parcel of the game. You are supposed to use reviews for umpire "howlers" - but instead, teams routinely use DRS reviews to gain an advantage on marginal decisions. That's fine - but if you do that, you surrender your right to call howlers a "Spirit of Cricket" issue.

    • @stu1002
      @stu1002 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@Quincycle No. Not obliged. Which is exactly why it's a Spirit of Cricket issue. The whole point is it's about being within the law, but not within the spirit.
      The issue here is that the wicket came about through a confusion about whether the ball was dead.
      Cricket, in order to be playable, requires the two teams to be sensible about agreeing when the ball is dead, otherwise the game would turn into a farce of double bluffs every single ball about whether the ball is dead.
      It's part of the Spirit of Cricket, "Gentleman's agreement" To be sporting about the issue of dead ball, precisely so that play can continue in a smooth manner.
      Otherwise you literally have the stupid pantomime that Broad demonstrated when he came out after Bairstow - of checking every single ball whether the ball was dead or not.
      IT looked comical - but he was making a serious point - if teams start exploiting doubt over when the ball is dead to take wickets as a matter of routine, the game would descend into chaos.

      Poor selection cost you the series. If you didn't have such idiotic selectors choosing Bairstow (an incompetent keeper who dropped multiple catches in the first game, whilst also scoring no runs) and Moeen (who had so many runs scored against him in the first game), England would have won both of the initial games of the series. There might have even been even a whitewash!

    If you leave your crease whilst in the process of playing a shot and the keeper takes the ball and stumps you then that's fine in my opinion but Bairstow had completed his shot/leave and placed his bat in his crease to show he didn't intend to take a run either - to any other reasonable cricket player this would indicate the ball is dead. This was just typical Aussie behaviour - morals akin to 'sandpaper' if you like. I think the same principle should be applied to run-outs too - if you're seeking a run or advantage when backing up the striker then you're fair game to be run-out.

    As a neutral person, I don't find any cheating by Australia this time. It is the responsibility of the batter to be aware of the signal of completion of over. In this scenario, the batter immediately walked out of the crease without checking the signal and waiting for few more seconds. The keeper did well, and appreciated for his level of concentration and focused on the game that he immediately sees the mistake made by the batter and did what is in the interest of his team. However, there should be a rule, at least, that the batter will not be consider out at the first time, can be called as "Warning", after that he will not get any mercy and straight be declared as run out.

    I have an issue with the inconsistency in how some incidents are portrayed differently from others, yes he threw it without taking any time (because he was prepared to do it, it wasn't completely instinctive), and it was the right thing to do ... just wandering out casually without any bother, from his point of view- he did give a small scratch each time he left the crease, but still is considered as loose.
    Now coming to Mankad, everyone in the field along with the bowler observes the non-striker leaving the crease causally and the bowler is prepared to lift bail off when he does it, now why do you have to give a warning after mankading, what is so extremely wrong in running out a batsman at the non-strikers end when the batsman walks out gaining an advantage also as opposed to Johnny's case. Why all the opposite drama here?
    Aussies did the right thing, to which Michael Vaughan and others agreed to without any issue and calling it dozy stuff from Bairstow, why a total opposite reaction to Mankad?... don't tell me that bowler has no intention of bowling and stuff, reiterating it... Carey didn't do it instinctively and was planned as it should it be..

    At the end of the day, it was out, but Broad's not wrong at 04:51🤣 Turning point in the series as well, Aus were rattled, as you can tell by their performance for the rest of the day. They were firmly second best for the remainder of the series.

      @@Roz0007 Yep, it would be nice, we'll just have to settle for that T20 tournament thing (began with a 'W' I think) they won there a couple of years back, oh well. Maybe Aus will win a series in England again at some point too! 2-0 up after 2 tests was probably a decent opportunity now that I think about it.
