Considering the Thomas movie will be directed by the same guy who directed Christopher Robin, I imagine it’ll be like that but with Thomas. As someone who grew up on Pooh (in addition to Thomas), Christopher Robin was amazing and I’d be down for a Thomas equivalent of it.

Second, considering the film was recut after a preview, there's a good chance the original film wasn't actually finished. Good luck trying to finish it with three deceased actors. Third, even if they actually do obtain the rights and finish the film, there's no guarantee it'll fill seats. The film flopped the first time. There's no reason to think a (in my opinion, subpar) recut will change that. The human characters are still boring and the love triangle is something preschool kids won't follow. Magic Railroad was a dud and needs to be left behind at this point.
@@Gondarth I support what you say, something I don't like about the movie is that it literally says "THOMAS..." With capital letters so that it only appears literally 15 minutes into the movie. I mean, what a scam! I just hope that with the movie they don't make a mistake like that please. I don't care if there is a small mistake as long as it doesn't seriously affect the entire movie, as long as it's enjoyable and I'm happy.
Thomas still gets better treatment from Mattel than Hot Wheels Acceleracers (it got discontinued after a cliffhanger ending and they'll probably never continue the series).
It's so awesome that everyone still loves this fandom. Also, I'd wished this new movie coming out might be good really. But let's hope Mattel learned better after their reboot.

Here's my personal idea for a Thomas movie. I'm gonna title it "The Island of Sodor" and the plot would be this: The island of Sodor is abuzz with excitement as it is chosen to host the prestigious Great Railway Rally, an international event celebrating the history and significance of railways around the world. However, the joyous occasion is marred by a series of mysterious accidents and the sudden disappearance of the drivers and firemen who operate the engines. As the engines strive to prepare for the rally, they find their progress hindered by these unexplained disruptions. To save their home and the Great Railway Rally, Thomas and his friends form a detective-like team, aided by a young boy named Christopher (named after Christopher Awdry, obviously) who is autistic and passionate about railways. He'll also serve as the audience surrogate. Together, they embark on an exhilarating adventure, following cryptic clues and hidden messages left behind by the missing drivers and firemen. As the engines delve deeper into the investigation, they uncover a sinister plot orchestrated by a former friend of Sir Topham Hatt, their beloved railway manager. This vengeful adversary not only seeks to sabotage the rally but also cunningly places blame on Sir Topham Hatt himself, endangering the future of the railway. This movie would explore themes of friendship, loyalty, perseverance, and the power of community. What I would like to see in the new Thomas film is have it be a love letter to steam preservation as if all the steam Locomotives in preservation right now. Got together and made a movie thanking us for our service and for still keeping them around and have it also be a love letter to the steam right back with showing them their strengths that nobody actually really knows, with camios from people from both Thomas and railroading fandoms. And if we are going to do those famous Chase scenes from way back when have it be done to the song jump by Van Halen and thats my wishlist 🙂🚂
A Barbie style Thomas movie would be horrible. Not only would it probably reaffirm all the misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding the franchise (Henry “dying in the tunnel” or the supposed lack of female engines), but it’d give general audiences a bad first impression of the franchise. You know, just like Magic Railroad. The Anthony Ramos Bob the Builder movie actually gives me hope for the Marc Forster Thomas movie. ShadowMachine, the studio who animated Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, is involved with the Bob movie. With that in mind, that implies Mattel wants to keep the general aesthetic and tone of classic Bob intact despite the change of Bob’s ethnicity and the setting. Now apply that aesthetic and tone faithfulness to Thomas. We’d probably end up with a quaint, comfy movie akin to the Paddington films with a primarily British cast and very British humor. I’m certain it’ll end up being CGI for cost purposes (and hey, the CGI seasons at their best looked theatre-worthy), but if Bob has the potential to be claymation like the original show, then there is a very similar potential to make a movie the same way Seasons 1-11 were on a much grander scale.
i had a dream about the Mark Foster Thomas movie once in that dream they brought back all the old merch lines there was Tomy, trackmaster, and I think I remember seeing Wooden Railway and taken' play also at the theater I went to set out some toys for kids to play with while they wait for the movie to start there was also a few maps of the island of Sodor as well, unfortunately, I woke up before the movie started but that was a nice dream. Thats my guess for the 80th anniversary that's the year the movie will release and also they'll bring back the old merch lines. Am I being to optimistic? yes but a little hope goes a long way
Not a chance. Mattel would still be in control of the show, and if they don't want to continue it, it ain't happening. This is what happens when you sell rights to a show.
I get the feeling Mattel is gonna celebrate the 80th anniversary with more of All Engines Go, which I'm not into. And the only merchandise I'll like nowadays is Bachmann; at least it is not based on All Engines Go and is good quality. The documentaries also look really fun and more people need to watch them to understand what Thomas truly is about. As a matter of fact, I'd be amazed if the Marc Forster movie of Thomas does that, but I don't care for the Barbie movie. I just haven't bothered in seeing it, and a couple of my friends didn't like it. So I'm all mixed for the future of Thomas... 😩

Yeah, Barbie was surprisingly good . Speaking as a 30 year old, I had a great time with that one... As for the blue train, I see no reason to get excited for it at this point. It's still a long time from completion, and let's be real, the last time Thomas had a theatrical film, it was crap. Trust nothing until a trailer actually drops, if it even happens, and even then, that doesn't guarantee quality. Like you say, Sean, there's not much of an audience there outside of children. They proved this with Magic Railroad. Even if the original cut was completed and put out, adults aren't gonna care about those human characters. At this point, if AEG gets cancelled, they could just leave Thomas there. It's been 40 years, the character has had a good run, it's super easy to go back and rewatch the old stuff, whether it be on Amazon, Netflix, DVDs or even old VHS tapes if parents still a VCR that's operational. 500+ episodes, not counting the movies or the spin-off is still a hell of an achievement. I don't particularly care about the movie, not at this point, so I say put out a box-set or two for the series (25 seasons is probably 75-80 discs, even on Blu-Ray. Those later episodes really add up, timewise...). Put a Complete Series set out, maybe include the Pilot if they care, and leave it there. That's about 70 hours worth of TV Content, not counting the movies. That way, families have all they need for their kids, and hey, if DVDs are still functional after 20 years, they can pass it onto their kids. As for other merch like toys? Sure, why not? There might still be some profit potential there...
The best I can presume for the 80th anniversary from Mattel is a “special” AEG episode.. us fans tho could group together and organise a big video- but one that won’t get us flagged from blooming Mattel
As much as I want to be optimistic for Thomas having a good 80th anniversary in 2025, I feel that can only happen if he is freed from Mattel's clutches and sold to a company that actually cares about the legacy that the Rev. W. Awdry and Britt Allcroft spent decades building up. What Mattel has been doing to Thomas since late 2017 is sending him to the scrapyard by decreasing both the quality of his show and merchandise lines, as well as the quantity of the latter.
I have seen the Barbie movie and while I (like many others) am not a fan of this brand itself, the movie though is the easiest rewatchable (not to mention that 'Thomas' blooper take is quite a surprise). The only way however for the Marc Forster Thomas movie is an actual teaser trailer to prove that it's still happening. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it might happen, but at the same time I'm being careful in case anything else happens (and remember what STH said 'you shouldn't listen to rumors' cause that's what every fan should've taken notes from based on our experiences from the original show).

Mattel did stated they remember Thomas is not A "toy" so they would make a adaptation for the CGI or rws like from the Mario movie, Lego movie, and Sonic movie with source material, but voice actors and character designs what worries me

The main reason all engines go sucks is the unrealistic portrayal of the trains. The thing that made thomas Unique was that it portrayed trains more realistic, unlike other train shows such as chuggington

Every time i go to Walmart or some place, and when I see the toy section I always go to that place to see Not only legos (because I’m a LEGO fan) but also old Thomas toys cause I believe there’s still some out there, I even had a dream where I found a wooden railway cuide in like Liverpool (which is a Mexican store we have in Mexico) 3. If All Engines Go ends anytime soon. Then that’s probably the end of the Thomas franchise for now or forever but the franchise itself will live on in our memories forever.
If the Paw Patrol got two movies then why can't Thomas and Friends get a new movie. Thomas and friends will always be one of my favorite series and I believe that the show should get a new movie because it disserves another chance. At least it would be better than movies like teen titans go! to the movies.

Thomas the Tank Engine Series was one of my oldest childhood memories and since then I love both the models and the CGI. It's a shame that the CGI Thomas and Friends series has coming to the end because I would to see continuing visiting other countries a bit more as he hasn't have a chance to visit American, Germany, France, Mexico, Berlin, and Japan as well as meeting the other engines featuring in "Thomas and Friends The Great Race" like Vinnie, Frieda, Axel, Ivan, Etienne and Carlos. But sadly it's not going to happen now no thanks to Mattel.

For me, Mattel should buy villainous, and make the characters in the Thomas the train version so they can create a film of Thomas discovering who Timothy is and what really happened to him, and in my au Timothy is Flug in my au But for it to work it would be like this: the North West railway is in a huge crisis so Sir Toppam Hatt retires and his son becomes the controller, but he accidentally sends Thomas to British railway and while Thomas is on British railway, he finds an lbscr E2 with a bag on the smokebox door, his name is Flug, Thomas doesn't recognize him so he tells him what happened and who It's him, he talks about some locomotives he knew, like dementia, penumbra, Black hat, illuminarow, etc., and Thomas thinks of a plan to save the Flug, but the British railway is full of diseils,So flug thinks of a very useful plan for them to escape from the British railway and go to Sodor, meanwhile Sir Toppam Hat's son is depressed about what he did with his father's famous locomotive.
I think that mettel should lose the licence and another company should get the rights and make a new series thats in the style of the original series from the 80s and 90s and make new or existing stories that weren't adapted
Hopefully good things will be in thomas’ future like the anniversary, a return of the original series (maybe some cgi and model), more bachmann (hopefully the rest of the model series will become bachmann too), and a few more stuff like that. Sometime ago i was waiting at shoping mall, and i saw a kid who handled backpack with thomas, the old thomas promo look, not AEG one. It was even more suprising for me, beacuse i'm from country where thomas & friends never was too popular.
I was raised on the vhs tapes for the first 5 seasons. Now I have a 1-year-old, and you better believe when it comes to Thomas, that’s all I’m showing him. Everything I’ve seen from after that time is discernibly worse.
My idea for the live action thomas movie is they would just have real engine but then just use cgi animation for the faces kind of like how they made season 12
Well honestly, for the future. I feel like it shouldn't be that bad. I mean, just look at Bob The Builder for example. After the 2015 reboot got backlash, they didn't necessarily cancel it right away. Instead, they let reboot go on for a few more seasons and then that was it and I can see a similar thing happening with Thomas. However, it's going to depend on what Mattel wants to do with the franchise and how production on the Marc Forster movie is going. What I could see happening which is most likely the case is that Mattel will let All Engines Go run for Seasons 3 and 4, have the Marc Forster be on as the grand finale of the franchise, and then that's pretty much it. Please note that this is my own personal theory. But it's just something we're gonna have to wait and see what happens.
I had honestly tapped out since they canceled the WW2 movie so had no idea theres a new movie. AEG was such a slap in the face and continues to be. Im much more a hornby model thomas. Its the eyes.
Despite Channel 4 making cutbacks, closing their music channels and planning to be “digital first” by 2030, I hope they change their plans and consider my suggestion to get back into kids TV! I know a return to kids TV would be a tall order for Channel 4 but I feel they could do a good job and that Mog Christmas special they recently did shows they have potential in the kids TV space! I’d at least like Channel 4 to air a few Fourways Farm reruns, as they are still legally required to show half an hour of schools programming per year, but ideally I’d like Channel 4 to acquire Thomas & Friends from Mattel, putting the IP back in British hands and putting the original 5 pre-Gullane seasons in their non-restored form back on TV! In the long run, I feel we need a new PROPER Thomas reboot show, retelling The Railway Series, magazine stories, TV stories and even the better stories from bad seasons! My first choice of animation studio would be Blue Zoo (Digby Dragon, The Adventures of Paddington, Pip and Posy) and my first choice of narrator would be Adam Hills (Mock The Week, The Last Leg)!
Barbie and Thomas movies would be wholly different beasts. Barbie got people in because it would be a movie on its own two feet if you took Barbie out of it. The Barbie factor draws people in, but there’s still a movie about people there. Thomas would just be a movie about trains…there’s not a “grown up” aspect to talking trains…

What I would like to see in the new Thomas film is have it be a love letter to steam preservation as if all the steam Locomotives in preservation right now. Got together and made a movie thanking us for our service and for still keeping them around and have it also be a love letter to the steam right back with showing them their strengths that nobody actually really knows, with camios from people from both Thomas and railroading fandoms. And if we are going to do those famous Chase scenes from way back when have it be done to the song jump by Van Halen and thats my wishlist 🙂🚂
A Barbie style Thomas movie would be horrible. Not only would it probably reaffirm all the misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding the franchise (Henry “dying in the tunnel” or the supposed lack of female engines), but it’d give general audiences a bad first impression of the franchise. You know, just like Magic Railroad.
The Anthony Ramos Bob the Builder movie actually gives me hope for the Marc Forster Thomas movie. ShadowMachine, the studio who animated Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, is involved with the Bob movie. With that in mind, that implies Mattel wants to keep the general aesthetic and tone of classic Bob intact despite the change of Bob’s ethnicity and the setting. Now apply that aesthetic and tone faithfulness to Thomas.
We’d probably end up with a quaint, comfy movie akin to the Paddington films with a primarily British cast and very British humor. I’m certain it’ll end up being CGI for cost purposes (and hey, the CGI seasons at their best looked theatre-worthy), but if Bob has the potential to be claymation like the original show, then there is a very similar potential to make a movie the same way Seasons 1-11 were on a much grander scale.

i had a dream about the Mark Foster Thomas movie once in that dream they brought back all the old merch lines there was Tomy, trackmaster, and I think I remember seeing Wooden Railway and taken' play also at the theater I went to set out some toys for kids to play with while they wait for the movie to start there was also a few maps of the island of Sodor as well, unfortunately, I woke up before the movie started but that was a nice dream. Thats my guess for the 80th anniversary that's the year the movie will release and also they'll bring back the old merch lines. Am I being to optimistic? yes but a little hope goes a long way

I get the feeling Mattel is gonna celebrate the 80th anniversary with more of All Engines Go, which I'm not into. And the only merchandise I'll like nowadays is Bachmann; at least it is not based on All Engines Go and is good quality. The documentaries also look really fun and more people need to watch them to understand what Thomas truly is about. As a matter of fact, I'd be amazed if the Marc Forster movie of Thomas does that, but I don't care for the Barbie movie. I just haven't bothered in seeing it, and a couple of my friends didn't like it. So I'm all mixed for the future of Thomas... 😩

Yeah, Barbie was surprisingly good . Speaking as a 30 year old, I had a great time with that one... As for the blue train, I see no reason to get excited for it at this point. It's still a long time from completion, and let's be real, the last time Thomas had a theatrical film, it was crap. Trust nothing until a trailer actually drops, if it even happens, and even then, that doesn't guarantee quality. Like you say, Sean, there's not much of an audience there outside of children. They proved this with Magic Railroad. Even if the original cut was completed and put out, adults aren't gonna care about those human characters.
At this point, if AEG gets cancelled, they could just leave Thomas there. It's been 40 years, the character has had a good run, it's super easy to go back and rewatch the old stuff, whether it be on Amazon, Netflix, DVDs or even old VHS tapes if parents still a VCR that's operational. 500+ episodes, not counting the movies or the spin-off is still a hell of an achievement.
I don't particularly care about the movie, not at this point, so I say put out a box-set or two for the series (25 seasons is probably 75-80 discs, even on Blu-Ray. Those later episodes really add up, timewise...). Put a Complete Series set out, maybe include the Pilot if they care, and leave it there. That's about 70 hours worth of TV Content, not counting the movies. That way, families have all they need for their kids, and hey, if DVDs are still functional after 20 years, they can pass it onto their kids. As for other merch like toys? Sure, why not? There might still be some profit potential there...

As much as I want to be optimistic for Thomas having a good 80th anniversary in 2025, I feel that can only happen if he is freed from Mattel's clutches and sold to a company that actually cares about the legacy that the Rev. W. Awdry and Britt Allcroft spent decades building up. What Mattel has been doing to Thomas since late 2017 is sending him to the scrapyard by decreasing both the quality of his show and merchandise lines, as well as the quantity of the latter.

I have seen the Barbie movie and while I (like many others) am not a fan of this brand itself, the movie though is the easiest rewatchable (not to mention that 'Thomas' blooper take is quite a surprise). The only way however for the Marc Forster Thomas movie is an actual teaser trailer to prove that it's still happening. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it might happen, but at the same time I'm being careful in case anything else happens (and remember what STH said 'you shouldn't listen to rumors' cause that's what every fan should've taken notes from based on our experiences from the original show).

Thomas the Tank Engine Series was one of my oldest childhood memories and since then I love both the models and the CGI. It's a shame that the CGI Thomas and Friends series has coming to the end because I would to see continuing visiting other countries a bit more as he hasn't have a chance to visit American, Germany, France, Mexico, Berlin, and Japan as well as meeting the other engines featuring in "Thomas and Friends The Great Race" like Vinnie, Frieda, Axel, Ivan, Etienne and Carlos. But sadly it's not going to happen now no thanks to Mattel.

My idea for the live action thomas movie is they would just have real engine but then just use cgi animation for the faces kind of like how they made season 12
Well honestly, for the future. I feel like it shouldn't be that bad. I mean, just look at Bob The Builder for example. After the 2015 reboot got backlash, they didn't necessarily cancel it right away. Instead, they let reboot go on for a few more seasons and then that was it and I can see a similar thing happening with Thomas. However, it's going to depend on what Mattel wants to do with the franchise and how production on the Marc Forster movie is going. What I could see happening which is most likely the case is that Mattel will let All Engines Go run for Seasons 3 and 4, have the Marc Forster be on as the grand finale of the franchise, and then that's pretty much it. Please note that this is my own personal theory. But it's just something we're gonna have to wait and see what happens.
I had honestly tapped out since they canceled the WW2 movie so had no idea theres a new movie. AEG was such a slap in the face and continues to be. Im much more a hornby model thomas. Its the eyes.

Despite Channel 4 making cutbacks, closing their music channels and planning to be “digital first” by 2030, I hope they change their plans and consider my suggestion to get back into kids TV!
I know a return to kids TV would be a tall order for Channel 4 but I feel they could do a good job and that Mog Christmas special they recently did shows they have potential in the kids TV space!
I’d at least like Channel 4 to air a few Fourways Farm reruns, as they are still legally required to show half an hour of schools programming per year, but ideally I’d like Channel 4 to acquire Thomas & Friends from Mattel, putting the IP back in British hands and putting the original 5 pre-Gullane seasons in their non-restored form back on TV!
In the long run, I feel we need a new PROPER Thomas reboot show, retelling The Railway Series, magazine stories, TV stories and even the better stories from bad seasons! My first choice of animation studio would be Blue Zoo (Digby Dragon, The Adventures of Paddington, Pip and Posy) and my first choice of narrator would be Adam Hills (Mock The Week, The Last Leg)!
