    Canadian Cayman S 987.2 owner here had it for 5 years and still adore it. It reminds me of early Porsches in looks and size. It truly is a lovely thing and so easy to live with. Due to the location of the engine, I detailed, painted throttle body and induction, intake runners and have a clear engine cover fitted to factory location. The engine through the rear glass is McLaren worthy!

      hey there i know this comments is a year old but it would be awesome to see what the clear engine cover on the 987.2 looks like that sounds like an awesome upgrade! Hope to see a video posted of that cover

    Had a gen 2 Cayman for over four years used as a daily without any issues, fantastic car.Running a BMW i8 now and again used a a daily, another great car.

    just to be clear, the DFI did NOT address the controversial issues with the gen 1 engines. what did address it was the manner in which the camshafts were driven. gen 2 engine redesign dispensed with the intermediate shaft altogether.

    The 987.2 is the sweet spot for those who want an analog classic manual Porsche, I may be wrong but my opinion is that the 987.2 were made from 2009 - 2012 which is a short period for a car production. The 987.2 have the revised engine as the 981 but retained the hydraulic steering and handbrake, I think it will be a classic. I perhaps may be bias as a 987.2 owner. Thanks for sharing

      Exactly why I bought my 987.2 CS! Felt like the best opportunity to enjoy an analog Porsche experience. Very happy I did and now I am also biased 😆

    • @enricocastelli7905
      @enricocastelli7905 2 года назад +10

      As the other user says, this being the sweetspot with 981 engine but still hydraulic steering, handbreak and this analog old school feeling is the reason why I bought my 987.2 CS

    • @Jonathan-do1sj
      @Jonathan-do1sj 2 года назад +2

      How much longer before values shoot up? The production numbers are so incredibly low for the 987.2, especially compared to 987.1 and 981

    • @tylerhough9124
      @tylerhough9124 2 года назад

      @@Jonathan-do1sjthe value retention these have as the market softens will tell us a lot about how soon they will be considered collectible and a must have. IMO, I think it’ll take a few market cycles that push overall values up a chunk at a time with little fade down to old highs. By then they’ll be considered a classic and few/no ICE sports cars will likely be available (unless Porsche comes through with that alternate synthetic fuel!).

    Great review! Own a 987.2 with PdK and, honesty, would have preferred a manual, since it is a weekend car. All in all, a well built, fun car and very reliable.

      Whilst the PDK is faster by a bee’s dick to 60mph its just another computerised driving aid, I own the exact same car in manual and it gives me control, feel, connection and analog drive with an active left 🦶

    I also had an STi. I sold my 2015 to buy my 987.3 Cayman S in white. I modded my STi and it sat at around 420 hp. The Cayman is oddly more fun to drive and own. I find the suspension with PASM to be really comfortable and compliant. We have some harsh roads here in the Midwest US. It handles them effortlessly.
    Thanks for the review. I found myself agreeing with pretty much all you said. The car you drove is exactly like mine.

      I'm in a similar position, I have a 2006 Sti at around 400bhp which is great to blast down British bumpy, twisty country lanes. The ride is harsh but the front end is incredibly precise and overall grip is immense. I'm currently looking at Caymans, and I'm wondering if it is going to wow me enough whilst driving to assure me I made the right decision?

    This is an excellent spec car. You hardly see extended leather and paint matched interior bits. I’ve never ever seen the trim surrounding the engine painted. Would’ve loved to see this with Sport Chrono (and/or PASM) considering the original build was this nice but that’s water under the bridge at this point. Thanks for sharing!

    I also own a UK 2010 Cayman S 987.2 with manual short-shift gearbox, with only 46K on the clock. Agree with your comments about the clutch and gearbox, but these characteristics don’t detract at all from what is a very pure and deeply exhilarating driving experience. Enjoyed your video, although sometimes less is more and as you clearly understand, the style and quality of the car speaks for itself. Music is naff though! 😄

    One thing - the audio inside the car while you're driving is only coming out of the right channel (making it uncomfortable to listen to with headphones).

      @@FastandFun I work in audio professionally. There’s a number of possibilities as to why but most likely that’s how the microphone recorded the audio, onto 2 channels but one of them is mute.
      Basically in your editing software you’ll need to use the “pan” tool on the audio track to center it, so that the 2 channels aren’t going to the left and right output.

    I thought the borescoring issues was due to galling between the cylinder walls and the piston being made of similar metals.

      Does not apply to generation 2, and HARTEC will rebuild a gen 1 and for a few extra pennies bore it out to 3.8 which gives a massive boost across the entire rev range unlike some remap or other shyte.

    It's a subjective opinion. I prefer basic audio controls (volume, track skip, mute) on the wheel so I don't have to take my hands off, or refocus my eyes on the centre stack. Such a shame so few were spec'd with a multi function steering wheel.
