'been watching your past videos and find them very informative. I've owned my 2000 Boxster & 2007 997.2 and enjoy them both. However, after watching your 987, I may seriously look into acquiring one.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Loved the last launch.
I have a 987.2 Cayman 2.9 PDK. Like you, I've shifted enough gears in my life both on and off the track.
Looking forward to tracking mine in the near future.
    All the best

Great video. I’m presently looking into a 2010 S PDK. I’m on the fence with the PDK. Your video certainly has helped. It will be my first Porsche. I’m more familiar with Minis and BMWs. Thanks

Something I have searched for, and have never found on the internet is how to use a PDK (dual-clutch) transmission for optimum performance driving. I currently have a 2006 Cayman S with a Tiptronic (which is NOT a slushbox!) I am looking to upgrade soon. I think the PDK is amazing! I have so many questions!
Do all PDKs have Launch Control? or just ones with the Sport or Sport Plus package? and which mode does it work?
(I learned here that for Launch Control to REALLY work, Traction Control needs to be shut OFF.)
Normal Automatic mode shifts normally. (and temporary manual mode)
Sport Automatic mode changes shifting profile? (with temporary manual mode)
Sport Plus Automatic mode changes shifting profile even more aggressively? (with temporary manual mode)
Normal Manual mode shifts manually and automatically at red-line?
Sport Manual mode shifts manually and automatically with soft rev-limiting?
Sport Plus Manual mode shifts manually and automatically with hard rev-limiting?
    Am I accurate?
    Thanks for the video! Cheers!

      Hi Brian,
Your observations are correct. Your “manual mode” questions are more complex. A lot seems to depend on whether the kickdown switch has been activated or not. I haven’t done any extensive tests on this relatively new-to-me transmission but my search using the terms “Porsche PDK rev limiter“ turned up a wealth of information.
      Cheers James

The Launch Control only works in Sport Plus. It needs you to have your left foot on the brake and right foot on the accelerator. Then release your left foot when you want to launch. Holding down for an excessive period can cause damage to the engine.

@@LynchedGamers "Holding down for an excessive period can cause damage to the engine". Not true at all, bouncing off a a lowered red line via a fuel cut (read: not an ignition cut) is not going to damage the engine or any other related component. Not by a long shot. There MAY be some additional wear and tear on the PDK but the ECU won't let you hold Launch Control mode for that long anyway. There plenty of stories of PDK Porsches getting hard launched multiple times a day for months if not years at Porsche Experience centers with no ill effects.

Yes, all PDK's have a sort of launch control.
      I have a 987.2 Cayman 2.9 PDK without Sport/Sport Plus.
I've only tried it with PSM off.
Press the brake pedal firmly, floor the throttle and on my non Sport it'll give you about a 4,000rpm launch, compared to the Sport/Sport Plus 6,000+ rpm launch.
As previously mentioned, even in manual mode, if you exit a corner in say 4th instead of 3rd below say 4,000rpm and fully depress the throttle, the kick down switch will have the PDK select and hold the appropriate gear. If you're say exiting the same corner in 4th in less than ideal conditions and only depress the throttle to the first stop. You will get ~99% throttle and the PDK will hold the gear you've selected.

help!! I have the same car, but the convertible does not open, the trunk and the spoiler and the horn, what could it be? Tell me what is the control unit for rear spoiler motor, which is located under the driver's seat?

Hi, I'm afraid that electronic issues are not my strong point. You need to read the codes (if any) and research the possible causes. Ask your question in one of the 987 groups. Lots of smart people out there.

Super sport mode on , traction control off, hold gas pedal to the floor and brake pedal fully on, release brake within a few seconds and giggle like a little kid! 🤣

My Dad owns a 987.1 Boxster S and that car will eventually be handed down to me, obviously it doesn’t make financial sense but do you think it would be possible to swap in the .2 PDK and obtain launch control, even if supporting mods were required?

    • @NewArt1
      @NewArt1  3 года назад

The motors in the 987.1 is completely different from the 987.2 so your idea is not feasible. Best option is to sell the 987 and buy a post 2009 Boxster or Cayman. 😉
