Love my 2011 987.2 manual Boxster S. It is beautifully speced with PSE, LSD, PASM, with heated seats and wheel for crisp autumn drives. It is the perfect sport car for back canyon roads. It feels small and nimble. It sticks like glue in the curves and the last pneumatic steering generation (987.2) lets you feel the road as you should. I have made a small change. I replaced the stock suspension computer with a DSC unit. This plug and play module change has made the car both more capable and more compliant. This is a 5 minute no tools upgrade that is completely reversible should you decide to switch back later. This is the ultimate drivers sporting car for the average buyer. Prices are still reasonable if you can find one. Thanks for the video and GLWTS.

Hi Scotty, thanks for your comments, totally agree on your sentiments and it sounds like you have the perfect Canyon carver! Enjoy, Raj

@Richard S You'll love it. It is the greatest toy I ever bought

Pneumatic steering? Shouldn’t that be hydraulic?

@@streetfighter3k Yes you are correct. But for some reason I cannot correct it now, too late?

@@scottyb4606 I already guessed it was a little bit a ‘slip of the pen’😉. I have got the 987 gen2 basemodel, 2011 and only 45k km. The S type is taxwise too expensive here in Belgium. But you won’t hear me complaining. I love my Boxster. I just arrived at home, returning with open top on a sunny 11th November, after having spent the afternoon with my best friends! How lucky can someone be?

Another great video. Thank you. I am one of those folks who are holding on to their 987.2 S but actually for a different reason than any you mentioned. This is my 3rd 987 S (2005, 2009, 2011). I had been very adamant about not owning one of these cars without a Porsche warranty out of concern for maintenance costs. My current car was a Porsche Pre-Owned model that came with a 2 year warranty. I purchased it in 2016 and sadly my post-warranty maintenance repairs have been costly. The conundrum I face with the newer models is the placement of the gear shift lever on the angled center stack feels awkward to me. I have no interest in purchasing a PDK equipped car. I’ve not really spent much time researching alternate repair shops other than the dealership so I’m sure I am paying premium rates. It’s too bad you don’t have a shop in the states. I’d take my car to your shop, or one that you recommended, for sure.

Thanks so much! I really do think Porsche Specialists rather then main dealers are the best place for the 987.2 and 981 I specialise in, the time and focus they give you cars at lower hourly labour rates can't be beaten! Thanks, Raj

Hi Thanks for the update video. Totally agree with your review and thoughts on this car. Recently bought one, paid bit more than I wanted to but that's the market currently. Another reason why there are fewer 987.2 3.4s around is when they came to market - 2009 to 2011 was at the beginning of the global financial crash. about one quarter were sold in numbers compared to the gen1 model never going to be rare but it helps keep prices stable. Same position as the 997.2 market.

Thanks Glen, congratulations and I totally agree with your observations on the rarity and why. Thanks, Raj

I picked up my 2010 Boxster S six years ago from a gentleman who wanted to trade it in but was faced with an absurdly low trade in offer from the Toyota dealership on the Porsche. We agreed on a fair price and it worked out well for both of us. I fully expected it to further depreciate and be expensive to maintain--wrong on both counts!

What a fantastic story Dave, you would have got a great price back then and also now had 6 years enjoyment already. Provided you keep on top of repairs they are actually not too expensive over time. Cheers, Raj

Raj, have both a 987 standard manual & a 981 S PDK, I have to say, drive wise the 987 is an awesome, so engaged, and you just want to drive and drive! Love mine ❤️
    Great review, nice car.

    I bought a 2009 987.2 in July 21 with 45,000 miles.
PDK gearbox, Pioneer head unit, Bose speaker system, heated seats, reversing sensors, cruise control. No PASM.
As my daily driver however, the ride is harsh, even with new Michelin PS2 tyres and tracking/camber all spot on.
Had the suspension checked, front geometry checked, no problems.
Why do they ride so heavy/harsh over drain covers, pot holes, undulations so prevalent on UK roads, so annoying and frustrating.
Thinking about selling but sad as it's a lovely looking car.

    • @MRSPORTSCARSPORSCHE
      @MRSPORTSCARSPORSCHE  2 года назад

Thanks for your insights into ownership Richard, our roads in the UK are particularly poor, however yes the non PASM cars are actually quite stiffly sprung. As you may know, the non PASM car is actually stiffer than a PASM car in Comfort mode. Non PASM cars are setup somewhere between the Comfort and Sport mode on a PASM car. Cheers, Raj

I lost my gen 1 987S in 2019 in an accident. I needed to save some cash before pulling the trigger again, then the pandy hit. I was like - ok, time for a change, now I was looking for a base 997.2. Constantly searching all the US market for it. Test drove a couple, liked them a lot, but the spec made me like them in like 70%. One day in March 2020 I believe, I was like - ok, let's see what's up on the Cayman market. To my surprise, after my first search - just posted there was a gorgeous black on black, Carrera SII 19 inch wheel, manual 987.2S with 42k miles... It was so cheap, that I can't believe it these days. I pulled the trigger immediately. I called the dealer and there was already someone in the line, waiting for a Porsche certification before buying. I was like - nope, I trust your word, just sell it to me. They did, and after a few months of driving it I can say honestly that I can be buried in it. So you are absolutely right, they are rare (I think there was like ~750 gen2 manual CS's total for the world), they are cheap compared to cars that deliver equal rush and they are SO, SO GOOD that we just hold on to them. Cheers!

987.2 S or 981 2.7? as they are roughly the same price. Give or take 3/4k

I would say the 2.7 if you are daily driving, the S for weekend driving! Raj
