Добавлен 19 май 2019
I own a varying selection of “affordable” performance cars from the 90’s and 00’s. Too often car reviews are from when the cars are new. I want to provide real owner reviews from used performance cars. What’s it like owning a 15 year old, 100k miles sports car in 2024? This channel tells you, providing updates on the highs and lows of running multiple sports cars.
This channel will also include videos from great road trips that I do and some DIY maintenance that I need to do to keep the costs manageable. I aim to provide weekly video updates most Fridays at 1pm.
My current cars are;
1993 Mazda MX5 (Eunos) 1.8 NA
2005 Renault Clio RS182 FF
2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI PPP
2008 Audi R8 V8
2010 Renault Megane RS250 Cup
2012 Range Rover (L322) 4.4 TDV8 Westminster
I welcome comments and feedback across all my videos, including what you like and also want you don’t like.

The 4.4 doesn’t have 510hp. Its about 300hp
I currently have an almost mint 325ti manual compact with just under100k (miles).Ticks over silently, drives like new.Oozes quality
i could only get my 97 golf GTI VR6 up to 225km/h on a very vacant highway.
Do you think I would absolutely have to go for a Cup if I would do mostly fast road and occasionally an amateuristic lap of the nurburgring, absolutely not asking the max of the car.
@@lemanlifestyle yes, even on the road the front LSD really helps put the power down and pull through the corners. It’s one of the key aspects of the Meganes cornering ability 👍🏻
@ thanks a lot! Really helpful
Wut
Will it charge a flat battery if left a few days?
@@flumpyflink it can bring back a flat battery to a degree, but if the battery is flat within a few days the battery is most likely dead and the CTEK won’t bring that back.
Ohhh yes. We have one 3.6 V8 RR from 2008. What a lovely beast.
Any chance of testing out a MK7 ST and giving your opinions on it? They’re held to a very high regard and I’ve only heard good things about them
Only if you have one and don’t mind me reviewing it? LoL I don’t have full access to cars, I rely on owners letting me review their cars. Not easy …
Would have to be a mk3 Megane for me Had a R26 previously for 8 years and it was a hoot on track just bloody unreliable 😂.
You don't get DCT gearboxes in M135i's Dan, they are torque converters. The ZF 8 speed is a torque converter. Nice car, looks mint, and obviously had a lot of work done credit to it's former owner. I had an M140i, took it from a 2 year old standard car, owned it 4 years, tuned it, modified it, and really liked it. Unfortunately I realized no matter how much I spent, it was never going to be a real M car. Mine (with the B58) had a Wagner downpipe/sports cat, and was running 455bhp/634nm, but without a limited slip diff it just couldn't put the power down. So now I'm in an OG M2. Much better handling, much better chassis, much better suspension damping, and imo much better looking. But, I still think the M140i (and M135i) are great cars.
@@DjNikGnashers well spotted ref DCT/ZF8 gearbox 👏 fitting of a LSD makes a huge difference to the M135/40’s and although many will draw lines between them and the M2 they are hot (super) hatches that should be compared to cars like the RS3/A45 rather than the M2. I’m hoping to get a M2 OG on the channel in the next few months 👍🏻
@@FastandFun Yes the LSD does make a big difference to traction, I know from friends who have fitted them. The main problem with my M140i which had the adaptive suspension, was that even in sport setting, the rear end was just so unstable and bouncy, it never felt settled and used to pogo over roads which had a series of bumps. The OG M2 even on standard suspension, just settles instantly, it's so well designed.
Without a doubt I agree an M Power car is much more of a car but so is the price tag, the M2 is a 2 door coupe not a hatch I think this F21 is a ' Modern Clown Shoe ' built to be quicker than a standard M2 / 4 around the track it certainly out brakes them....... beauty is in the eye of the beholder 😍
It’s certainly a credit to the m135i that at 12k it’s in the m2 conversation. I’ve looked at having one multiple times but the issue being there’s a local man that goes by azzer dawg that’s gave them a really bad reputation in our area
@ I know what you mean. Unfortunately, when good cars get a bit older and drop to affordable prices, they seem to be bought (sometimes) by the wrong type of person which gives the model a bad rep. The same thing happened to Impreza's about 10-15 years ago, every chav and his staffy had one with a massive exhaust. Every time I went out in the tuned M140i I got baited by every GolfR, A45, Tesla, etc, it became tiresome. Weirdly I don't get that same 'attention' in the M2, even though it's actually a slower car in a straight line (but a beast in the corners).
what drugs is he on ????
Why? Please enlighten us with your best car ever including factors like luxury, performance, versatility, off-road, image, practicality, etc, … I’m intrigued to know your best car ever 🤔
@@FastandFunMy choice is the BMW X5. An incredible performance on and off road.
@@Globetrotter-1 X5’s a good choice and was on my initial shortlist of 3 cars. Main reason I chose the RR over the X5 was purely the off-road capability. Just can’t match the RR off-road IMHO.
@@FastandFun I agree that the RR is good off road, but so is the X5, despite what some say. I have driven it daily off-road over all terrains for the past five years and it hasn't missed a beat. Decent tyres & drivers are often the important factors forgotten by most people.
@@Globetrotter-1 very good point about tyres and driver. Both more important than the car itself 👍🏻
M140 barely have traction in the dry
I bought a 2003 2.5i with M sports package in N.Z., 7 years ago. Ex. Japan, zero rust, done 2k miles each year for 6k pounds equivalent. The down side is it's auto, but where would you get an an unthrashed manual that's only done 2k miles a year? It's Maldives blue & a keeper.
Road legal or "road legal" ?? No modified car can pass RTD inspection. Period. However, i personally like this since it is a Mk2...my favorite Escort❤😃
@@Veloce2000 road legal with respect to passing the annual MOT testing
Cheap again in 2025
Are they? I’m not so sure. You’ll need north of £5k to get in anything reasonable condition. Good ones are £7-8k now.
@ tbf they’re all over the place at mo
@@lassydogpie5390 that probably reflects the condition of them (Rust buckets through to fully restored).
Thanks man, It's worked🔥🔥🔥🔥
Should have bought a Lexus.
@@mickapps3153 Toyota (L-Cruiser) maybe, but not a Lexus!
20.000gpb for a 1600 Fulvia? For that money you buy half a car. 1600’s are expensive. For a 1300 Fulvia, 20.000 gets you a good one.
I'm pretty keen on getting one of these
If you want less depreciation with similar comfort & greater reliability, buy a Toyota Landcruser, but it will cost you.
BMW upsides-It looks like typical BMW from the front,it will be a lot more quiet inside when you drive around,it has a bit more space, has a fair bit of horsepower MX5 (NBFL) upsides- It looks nothing like an average Mazda, it's cheap to repair and simple...even the engine when the belt snaps won't granade itself because the pistons will never touch the cylinder. You are either chosing the German-made Z3 for more comfort to drive and just raw acceleration but not much fun because in terms of handling it's way worse and less nimble....it kinda makes it feel kinda pompous The MX5 is just barebones simple and reliable...and people will certainly give you looks because how legendary the car has become. It does have major rust problems but if you do take care of it quick then it will last very long.Unlike the Z3 you certainly can treat the MX5 like an absolute race track toy and it will give you a lot of fun because the mass is basically 50/50...and that 1.6 engine loves getting turbo'd turning the car into a bolt. But that generally boils down to personal preference if you want kinda day-to-day utility in typical BMW fascion or a big toy car for being a joy ride each time
7:53 what size are those nuts 10mm ?
Sorry pal I don’t know! It was a while ago and I haven’t opened the door of the 182 in 18 months, never mind the bonnet. New Years promise is to get the 182 back on the road in 2025!
Told you they’re good 😅
@@andrewkardynal8470 they aren’t half bad that’s for sure! Get under your skin and I’m not sure I ever don’t want to own one now!
Probably a bit late now but dig and turn out of the ruts, lower your tyre pressure, and go back the way you came - it's likely to only get worse. Also, in future, don't go off road on road tyres...
Had mine 10 years in couple of weeks 86k miles absolutely love it ..Snag is the £710 road tax!! was £500 when I got it!!EEK!! AND Jezzer Clarkson n Harry Garage reckon best Rangey ever built!!
Blablabla....shit...
It was one of my first videos. A bit cringy now I admit. Hopefully I’ve improved in the last 5 years!
What a beauty. I have one in the garage. Its a beauty and feels completely different from a e92 m3. I don't go track so doesn't matter to me in terms of agility but with the top down, the exhaust and induction is amazing.. No words to describe which you can never hear in e92/90. Given my usage, this is the the perfect weekend car.
I’ve got a tidy 03 plate L322 with the 3.0 BMW engine … it starts and drives a treat .. lot of car for the money .. certainly better than my useless M3 that sits in the garage …. 😮👍
Great positive video I need to scratch an itch but worried about the bad reviews and insurance costs.
Yes geezer. Wasn't sure whether or not to try this, but now I will.
That was the first digital instrument cluster in any car ever... The dual view tv screen was also a world first. Not bad for 09/10. Can't see me ever selling mine... There is nothing unreliable about these diesel V8 rangies... The ZF transmission is awesome and built proof with many manufacturers today using crap that doesn't even come close
Good video, thanks for the upload, I hope to own one of these one day. I see it as a logical upgrade of my S2000. The only thing that worries me is the reliability of the car.
Ive got a z3 2.2 sport roadster in silver, its just like yours but mines got the sport wheels that are like a wire effect, its got 108.000 so it is jist like yours,i agree about the car following the camber on the road. Only had it for the last two months so haven't driven it hard with the weather. Looking forward to summer coming and really taking it above 3000 revs like its getting in this weather.
They get under your skin and you find yourself making excuses for the daft little faults they throw up from time to time, I love my 2010 TDV8 Vogue SE,
This is absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for this advice, will be saving this one to watch again before next winter!
Great video! I have a 735 from 2000 and it's brilliant
I wrote off my first in 2014 when i lost the road and i was lucky to walk away. I bought my second during lockdown on the strength of the safety aspect. Five years on apart from a brake line replacement, there's nothing happened that I haven't been able to do myself. Belts, oil line, AR bushes fuel filler pipe all done myself. Just need to figure out why i lost power over christmas, but it still keeps chugging away, bless her. I shall mourn her when she's gone but i will fight every inch to keep that from happening. 2.5 Equippe in both instances.
A few badges inside and out really! Makes the car a lot better personally 🤣🤣🤣 Not even modded properly just a kid sticking eBay crap on it!
That’s not true, either by your reference to the badges or the mods that have been done to it. Some good mods on that car and perplexed as to why you refer to eBay crap! 🤷♂️
I own this car (2019 190hp version), came from an E46 330d LCI. This car would be perfect if the following things weren't annoying me: - The godawful sound of the 4 cylinder diesel engine. You just don't want to rev it or drive sporty, because it gives you ear cancer! - Interior quality is just average. There's some rattling noise coming from inside the doors, the window sealing and also sometimes from the front panels. On good roads it's fine, but on cobblestone it really is a drag - The 8 gear AT does a fine job but it somehow makes the feeling of 400nm "disappear". If you stay in manual mode, 5th gear for example, on the exit of a city and you floor it, you can feel the punch again because the AT stays in 5th gear all the way from like 1800 to 3200 revs. - Noise insulation also isn't the best. From 140km/h on, it becomes loud inside. x Besides that, for smooth cruising, it is perfect. Average consumption over 50.000km is 5.3l/100km.
I want two r8s. One to drive and one to keep on display😂 Best car ever
I have been driving range rovers for 40 yrs. on my 3rd.l322 super charged now with 90k have driven to spain 5times .it realy is the best am now 76 with a wealth of knowledge of these vehicles . the answer is servicing & they won,t let you down
Crudely putting it , it is like having a pipe from your ass to your mouth and eating your own shit.
