This video is still my fave. Have not made these in a year or two, and decided today, to do one. Totally forgot what to do! Thankfully, this video is still up. Whew! What a relief! thank you SOOOO much!
not wrong.....you could do it in the round for an infinity type scarf if you want to.... but this particular one is worked end to end...... cathy@ the crochet crowd help desk :)
I have sat for 1 1/2 hours watching and practicing. then going to my chair and making mistakes and coming back and watching. I finally figured it out!!!! I am excited as I have several scarves to make for kids and grandkids. Thank you Mike!!!! Hanging there.
Hey Erma, yes if you cut the knot out of the yarn and then overlap the two ends together and then continue stitching going through both pieces that should fix it.....Cathy@ the Crochet Crowd :)
mikey is putting the needle through the front to the back first and then from the back to the front and keeps alternating....if you start from the back your needle will be in back of the yarn so you probably want to start from the front....hope that helps ....cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
My Mom has made 5 of these in the past week and a half! She got lots of complements on her scarf this weekend when we went to the store to get more yarn! : ) Now that she's talked a couple of us into trying it, too, I am glad to have your tutorial to help us out! Thanks!!
Hi, I have made 75 of these scarves as a fundraiser for Hope for Orphans-Congo and have gotten the time it takes down to 1 1/2 hours!! Thank you for your video. When I started making these I was "picking" up the loop like you and putting it on the needle but now I am laying the sashay on my pointer finger and pick up the stitch with my needle from the tip of my pointer finger. It's made it go so much faster. I am going to keep making these scarves until people stop buying them!! Hazel
guy, this video is awesome, thanks, i am the type of person that loves to see something new and easy, i love this, you are so creative, keep it alive, the crafts are so relaxing and stimullating for the mind. thanks from "j" in chicago
When I first started my scarf, I kept dropping the stitches off the needles. I find that using circular needles as straight ones works best for me and its easier to put you work down and not worry about losing your stitches. I love this video and my scarf looks great. I couldn't have done it without you!
I tried to make three of these at the same time and I got so tangled! LOL.....I love making these. I really love to watch a man knit. I taught a male airline pilot to knit when I worked at Michaels. He came with his wife but she wasn't interested in knitting. He was a very fast learner. Thanks for posting this video.
yes one skien should give you a good size scarf unless you make it super ruffly or want it longer than what the video shows ...cathy@ the crochet crowd
I can't thankyou enough for this absolutely slow and clear video of how to use this yarn. I took a hard look at this lovely yarn and couldn't figure out what to do and now even though i'm a beginner i'm very excited. thk u thk u thk u.
I work at a JoAnns Fabric and Craft Store in Sc and we just started carring sashay this week. and this video made it very simple! my scarves are turning out really cute! :)
great video!.I have seen a lot of people wearing these.Your video was very clear, and you spoke nice and slow..I think I may actually attempt this..thanks VERY much for posting this
WOW!!! I have not visited RUclips in for ever. :) You have come a long way baby. I started to check out your videos about 2 years ago. Thank you for posting them. I came across this shasay yarn before and thought why would you want to crochet or knit with shoe lace. haha. Now I have a few of these scaves. Again thank for taking the time.
Thank you so much for the video. I was confused by the casting on process because it is not the way I have ever cast on, so I thought I must not be understanding the directions. You made the directions so clear. Thanks again! :)
You do such a good job of demonstrating this. I've been wondering how to do one of these and this is great. Keep doing what you do. I wish others would show their how tos clearly and slowly as you do
look for the video titled frill seeker here in youtube and this is about the same yarn and will give you an idea on how to do it .... Cathy@ the Crochet Crowd :)
Omg! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You made it sooo easy to figure out! I've been struggling with how to get my needles to stay right, and how to not get all tangled up for about 2 weeks straight now, and after watching you, I had it down pat within 30m! I usually crochet these frilly scarves but I wanted to learn how to do it according to the instructions. Thank you again! :) God bless!
I cant leave a link here but if you search "frill seeker mikeyssmail" on youtube a video will pop up in which Mikey shows you how to crochet with frill seeker yarn that is very similar to sashay yarn....hope that helps cathy@ the crochet crowd help desk
Thank you so much! Best video I have seen. I also had difficultly with the length of the knitting needles for this project, so I switched over to mechanical pencils. I push the graphite down first and I find that they feel better to work with.
This is exactly what I was looking for..I knew you had to have one.....I should of just looked through your videos...Thanks a million...I will give this a try..This is gorgeous...thank a ton..
This is the first time I ever knitted. I consider myself and expert crocheter but never tried knitting. I made this scarf crochet and did not like the outcome. I watched many knitting videos and just couldnt get it. And then I watched yours and I completed my first one and it looks amazing.. Took out the one I crocheted and redoing it knitting. Thank You! Great Job! Easy to follow .
Very clear, figured it out from the pattern on the ball, but needed to see if i was actually doing it right. My ruffles seemed a little on the tight side, i like your skip every other stitch idea. Thanks!
I just watched ur other vid where if u have a knot in ur yarn = u r sooooo good @ explaining how 2 fix it & continue on,I am absolutely going 2 knit 1. Again thanks very much...Getting my yarn 2morrow...
This is a great refresher video, sometimes you forget the little tidbits after making so many, I like the way you cast off too, so much simpler than what I was doing....I do what Mikeyssmail does overlapping the two ends. The only problem I have is making the scarves with too many stitches on them, I get distracted or carried away. Working on that problem, practise makes perfect!
I am sooo excited to get started on this, you are the BEST at giving instructions. Unfortunately, I bought Patons Piroyette before seeing your video and am hoping to get the same outcome. Thanks a bunch for all your wonderful videos, you have brought the creative side out in me :)
the pattern for how to knit this scarf can be found on Mikey's website..... the crochet crowd . com under free patterns and then under knitted with needles patterns....cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :)
This works out great. Even for me, barely a knitter. I knit holding one needle under my armpit, not coordinated enough for continental two handed knitting, because I am a crocheter. But I made some for a craft show and they sold 2 seconds after I put them out on the table. i think I'll make a bunch for Christmas presents.
I have made scarves with this yarn stretched so it ruffles like you mentioned but not still rolled up....you could try it and see how you like it closed...it may look fabulous.....:) cathy@ the crochet crowd helpdesk :0)
Sorry to hear you didn't have success with this pattern and yarn... I cant knit with it either but I used mikey's "frill seeker" video here on youtube (the yarn is similar to sashay yarn) and I was able to crochet a bunch of beautiful scarves so I wanted to pass that on to you as an option :) cathy@ the crochet crowd
It is like a gathering stitch, like when you are sewing something. You go through every other hole near the top edge. What I found easiest, is to pull the work back on your needle about 1 1/2 inch from the tip so that when you bring the working yarn forward it will only stretch that distance to fit over the needle and you don't have to drive yourself nuts trying to look for every other stitch.Main thing is just don't pick up too much of the working yarn just the top row of loops
I was seeing this as well.2 things I did different the second time I started were to just use the top loop (as he does in the video -- the instructions on the wrapper of the yarn was misleading, imo) and every few rows instead of the top loop, I picked a random strand from a few rows down. It's def ruffling now..! I hope that works for you..!
hello Lisa Try having a friend pull out the netting and lay flat while you roll it onto an empty paper towel roll . it makes it alo9t easier to stay and find the top row
I LOVE THIS YARN!!! Took me three days (had to stop a lot). The only thing I did differently is I used the top two lines instead of just the first. Wanted to make sure it was strong enough. My only question would be is what would be the best way to sew the two ends as the yarn directions state? BTW, love all your videos, I learn so much.
You make this look so easy. I'm experienced knitter, but I just spent 2 hours, trying this 7 times and then ripping it out every time because I couldn't keep the yarn straight and couldn't figure out which was the 2nd loop from the needles. What I ended up with was a wide scarf with sort of ruffles. Frustrated!
So, I am with the person above who said that it is going in a round. How do I get it to go back and forth? I keep putting the full needle back into my left hand and doing so makes it go around. I haven't been knitting for about 20 years, but crochet a bit and yes your videos are by FAR the best. Suggestions?
Thank you for the video!! This was my first knitting project EVER, and I finished it in about 4 hours, with minimal errors. It doesn't look as good as yours, but good enough to wear in public. QUESTION: I'm wondering how I can get it thicker, as mine has some thin areas... Should I go to 8 stitches per row , or would it be better to knit every 3rd hole instead of every 2nd hole? Would either of those ideas make it appear thicker? (And likely shorter.) Thank you for posting this video!!
I haven't done any sort of knitting in a long time, but it was easy to pick up again with this video. Just one question: the scarf essentially goes in a continuous round rather than folding back and forth, right?
Hi Mikey, I love your video!!! Way to go that a man is knitting!!! I have started a scarf and I'm wondering if there is a "right" and "wrong" side to this yarn? Thank you so much!!
Thank you for sharing this tutorial! Just a question do you have to use a number 9 knitting needle does it matter? I have US 5 can I use those does it make a difference? Thank you in advance!
I find being left handed that it is quite hard to woerk with this gorgeous yarn. Rather than going between the top two strands is it ok to knit both strands together...thanks
Hello Mike, I saw you on CHCH recently talking about the Needle Festival. Does the quality change when you skily every other hole when making a ruffle scarve. Do you use this method for the higher priced yarns from Europe for example. Thanks for your response Linda
Great teaching video; I tried crocheting this scarf, but knitting looks better. I am working on one with Starbella Stripes purple with gold edging (school colors). This thread is different from what you are using in the video and it is not as full and fluffy and the holes worked in looked too stretched. Have you use this type of thread or do you have suggestions for working with this?
i can do just about any craft, but knitting.i am though making these scarves watching your video. can you point me in the direction of how to get back to a dropped stitch?
Hello, We are sorry to that we made the attempt to add a video response to your video. We had little knowledge on what it meant. Thank You, Maggie's Crochet
This might sound goofy, but could you use it like a chunky yarn if you don't open it? I love the color schemes of Sashay, but I don't want to be stuck only using it for ruffled scarves and nothing else.
Hi i just started to knit and i think these scarfs are beautiful. i have been looking at mikeys videos and they are so easy to follow. Now the sashay scarf i have been trying to do it gets harder towards the end. The loops get so tight and the scarf doesn't look round and ruffly at the end. is there a specific way you need to flip it once you have the moved the yarn from one needle to the other? Sorry that i might not make sense but don't know the proper terms yet. Thanks
I want to make this scarf. One question, as you are knitting does the stitches come off of the needle when you finish each section. Or does all the stitches stay on the needle.
Just wondering if it can be loom-knitted? I can't knit with needles, I'm teaching myself to loom-knit and am interested in a variety of loom techniques.
I learned to knit a few years ago. My mom bought one of these scarfs off of a lady for $20. Anyway, we happened to be watching The Shopping channel, and they were advertising this wool. 3 balls of yarn, the pattern, and I think the needles for around $20. Me and my mom decided to fins the wool and try making the scarfs. I had issues with it. It kept falling off of the needles. Tried again in the morning, and finished it in a couple of hours.
Mikey, what about doing this on loom? Its that possible and if is can you do instruction on that. I can hand knit but my sister in law cannot, but she can do the loom knitting well. Thanks

I don't know how to knit but with your video it looks like I could learn. Thank you
This is awesome! I am not the world's fastest knitter and almost have a foot done after starting tonight. :-)

I'm so tickled to make this.! I finally got the thread. Yaye for Sashay. Ty
So Shantay you stay! (ru paul reference). :D
P.S. enjoyed your video - makes it more clear than most I have looked at!!!
Love it never have seen sashay yarn before , very sashay fashionista scarf cute

hello.....no this is not in the round its worked up side to side
Thanks for posting such a great, user-friendly tutorial. This is a great project for any beginner such as myself. :)
thanks for explaining how to knit the sashay scarf, think I can try it now.

take me 4 hrs to finish but i did it thank you ..................... to hard to start but now imready for the next one :)
i never knit before u made it so simple that im willing to learn yay!
hello Lisa Try having a friend pull out the netting and lay flat while you roll it onto an empty paper towel roll . it makes it alo9t easier to stay and find the top row
Wow! Thanks- I wondered how to make anything with this ..now I am informed!
Thanks, I will definitely give this a try and let you know how it comes out.
u are an amazing instructor im going to make this scarf its beautiful
This is so cool!! This would be a neat project for craft tables! :) May try one for myself too.:) EXCELLENT.
Very clear instructions. Going to try my first scarf.
An awesome video. I have seen other videos but the camera angle were very poor. An excellent job demonstrating! Thank you! :)
Excellent images and explanation. Thank you very much!
we have never heard of that happening?? thats too bad....
thanks for the tutorial mikey, i just finish mine and love it so much.
Lisa, this patterns is incredibly simple. I don't think it's the yarn and pattern that suck.....
I made two of these at a time. Three is too many for me. I found that using a little shorter bamboo or wood needles are perfect for this.
Thank you!! I am starting mine now!! So excited!!
I love this tutorial! It is really amazing! Love these scarves! Thank you!

Lacey- you use the big loops on the oppisite side of the glitter part.
Mikey, Have you tried a crochet version or Tunision??? I did that and it worked well.
So, I am with the person above who said that it is going in a round. How do I get it to go back and forth? I keep putting the full needle back into my left hand and doing so makes it go around. it is so cute!!! so i have a question can you use thick yarn and different size knitting needles?
I dont knit, but your sparkly needles are very pretty! :)
YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!!
LUV IT AND THANKS CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THIS!
Super well explained. Thanks.
Where did you get your amazing sparkly needles??? So much more fun than bamboo!!
Hello Mike, I saw you on CHCH recently talking about the Needle Festival.
Does the quality change when you skily every other hole when making a ruffle scarve. Do you use this method for the higher priced yarns from Europe for example. Thanks for your response Linda

Great video, when I got about 6 inches into my scarf I found a huge knot where the yarn had been tied together to join. What do you do with that?
i can do just about any craft, but knitting.i am though making these scarves watching your video. can you point me in the direction of how to get back to a dropped stitch?
Hello, We are sorry to that we made the attempt to add a video response to your video. We had little knowledge on what it meant.
Thank You,

i am going to do this looks easy enough thanks
I love your videos!!
OH MY GOSH GLITTER NEEDLES I WANT SOME!!!!!!!
This might sound goofy, but could you use it like a chunky yarn if you don't open it? I love the color schemes of Sashay, but I don't want to be stuck only using it for ruffled scarves and nothing else.

I would like to use a size 9 needle...also the first row the stitches are always twisted.
