    Thank you so much for this video. I had bought yarn to make a spiral scarf and the instructions were different. I made a swatch and could not understand why anyone would make one scarf let alone many. This is wonderful! Thank you.

    You need circular needles to accommodate the large number of stitches you end up with. You could have up to a thousand (or more) stitches, which is far too many for straight needles.

    Wow! 8,000 stitches! God bless you! I was looking to see how many skeins I should buy (1 or 2) and came across your comment. I would love to see a picture of your scarf! In the meantime, I think I'll pick up 2 skeins to be safe. Thank you for your comment.

    Thank you for such a fast reply :) I just wasn't sure about the thickness if that would make a difference in the amount of skeins and having it all fit on the needle, the 960 stitches is pushing it for my needle already :)

    I was wondering if you could tell me what yarn would be best to use for this curly scarf if I wanted to find differnt colors? I love the colors that Lion has but I had a friend ask me if I could make her one in Blues and there really isn't one in the Lion Brand. And by the way I love your posts I find them VERY helpful in my new hobby of knitting :) Thank you

    I have a size 10.5 circular needles. And the length of the cable is about 38 inches, I think. I just couldn't find the size you are using in this video. Do you think this size would be ok? I don't think I'm going to be making it an amazingly long length. Thanks for your input!

    If I want the spiral scarf to hang down to my waist when hung over my neck, about how many chain stitches should I start with? Will the initial chain length reflect the finished length OR because of the spiral, does it need to be twice as long as you desire the finished length?

    Hi, I recently bought my first pair of circular needles to knit this scarf. Is there a trick to getting the cord to straighten out? I've tried to knit with them curled ( I bought the Susan Bates velocity needles) but the weight of the yarn/work didn't straighten them out. Please help! And thank you for putting out great videos!!

    Is there any reason you are using the specific increase that you used? I don't love doing that increase and was wondering if just doing a yarn over would create a problem. I am doing that on mine and all I can tell is mine is more open and airy with holes. I am not sure if that will be a problem though. I am new to knitting and don't know all the why and what for rules. Thanks for the video it really helped me realize I can do this. :)

    My first spiral scarf was done in a very light fluffy mohair. I wanted it longer so cast on extra stitches.
    In my zeal of increasing, I wound up having to bind off almost 8,000 stitches! The scarf is gorgeous, but I had to buy a second ball of that expensive yarn.

    You have such great videos, and you've became one of my favorites! I just came upon this tutorial on this project, and it us quite easy! Could I go beyond 100 to have a little mire width to this scarf? I know that you suggested 125 stitches for one viewer. Will this amount make it a little wider? I like having width to it.

    • @iknitwithcatfur
      @iknitwithcatfur  6 лет назад

      Yes, more stitches should give more width. I haven't found anything anywhere about how to calculate stitch count for length on these though; I tried one with worsted weight yarn and 400 stitches. The scarf turned out so long, it dragged on the ground. I never wore it.

    Hi again! OMG this is so beautiful, i really want to make this. I have a couple of questions - 1) Whats the difference between this one and the potato chip - which one is more ruffled in your opinion? and 2) For this scarf, If I'm using 3.5 mm needles and "Sport/fine" weight yarn, please could you let me know a good number of stitches to first cast on (for a 5 ft 5" woman)? - thank you again!!

    • @iknitwithcatfur
      @iknitwithcatfur  7 лет назад +1

      This one increases in stitch count, the potato chip scarf is worked in short rows where the stitch count remains the same. This one seems more ruffly to me. As for stitch count, you'd need to check your gauge with the yarn and needles you'll be using. These ones are a bit tricky to determine length on - you'll probably want around.... 100-125 stitches to start. Maybe check ravelry for spiral scarf patterns, then sort by yarn weight and see how many stitches are cast on to help give you a better idea.

    And how many increases should I make?
    Thanks!

    • @iknitwithcatfur
      @iknitwithcatfur  9 лет назад

      +noamarom25 That really depends on what weight yarn you use and your gauge.

    • @noamarom25
      @noamarom25 9 лет назад

      +iknitwithcatfur what it it's the same as in the video?

    • @iknitwithcatfur
      @iknitwithcatfur  9 лет назад

      +noamarom25 I don't know what your gauge is, and this isn't graded for a baby, but try 20 and increase only twice. Obviously you don't want it too long to avoid possible strangulation.

    • @robynjordan5220
      @robynjordan5220 7 лет назад

      noamarom25 as it is in the video would be much too long and bulky for a little one.
