- Overview of the Omega Walking Foot Zig Zag sewing machine. I classify at as a semi industrial home sewing machine. I go over a bunch of details and opinions of the machine through out the video.
Thanks for watching, leave a comment below and please subscribe.
I will have upcoming projects using this machine.
Thank you, I have had two parts fail and am looking to a source to replace anything else that fails. I have finally got to use the machine and am pleased with its sewing and size. I still haven't had a reply from the French-Canadian seller. Your channel has been a great resource.
Yeah I haven’t had great communication with either, glad you have been able get up and going sewing. Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.
I love the finger with the bandaid wounded but loves to sew👍❤️
I have the same one. I love it. I use it with 138 thread thru 6 layers of 7 oz dacron , if tuned correctly no problem, goes thru like butter
Nice, that’s great to hear
'simple to you'
but I never thought of running a second spool of thread to wind bobins with
I always wound them then had to re thread the machine
thanks - thumbs up
Your welcome thanks for watching
You can get a separate bobbin winder that is stand alone so you can have plenty ready without having to worry about rethreading your machine
Right, the presser foot height is a bit of a concern but nothing is perfect. I'll probably go ahead with the purchase. Once again, thanks for your reply and taking the time to make a very informative video.
Yep no problem, I’m glad you like it and I could help.
You did a really good job, on the table, and the table. I didn’t realize it is the same as Sailrite. I have an older Brother industrial, but it is so fast, even with a way smaller pulley and foot pedal adjustments. It just makes me tense to use it.
Thank you, for the most part it’s the same as sailrite but still a good machine. I am still wanting to get a juki walking foot or consew. I have some thicker assemblies I am wanting to see and it won’t fit under the foot on the machine I have now.
@@blacklaboutdoors7285 I sincerely believe that it is the cheap Chinese version of the sailrite ultra feed!
Here you are fretting at the 13min mark and I'm thinking "more, more!" :) - thanks for this clip.
Lol ty and Yw
I had to tap the holes on mine, but the sailrite binder is worth the money.
The motor specs seem to be the same, but with the sailrite there is the ability to get a table for it and upgrade to an industrial motor without any diy stuff
@@blacklaboutdoors7285 Any binder is worth it. The best tool in sewing bags and gear - ever.
I don't want a table ottomh. I want to make this very flexible - make a project then store it in the attic or travel with it (car, van or maybe even sailing the future) - so no actual table needed (I am crafty enough to make something out of ply, got the tools and whatnot).
The only thing that worries me is that some guy on that sailing forum was saying that some pros have used Omega for semi-pro sail making and in 14 months it crapped out. I'm slightly scared to purchase because of that. I see that I can go on Sailrite and add items to the basket - was it the same for you? Do they stop you to check on you at the checkout? I thought you said Sailrite control the parts sale only for their clients.
@@blacklaboutdoors7285 I just bought one too ;) . I got the monsterwheel version (non-sailrite monster, I have to turn a small wheel to decouple for the bobbin instead of the posi-pin),it works that's all I can tell for now. I tried stitching 6 layers of leather lol (had some tests in the box). I did 1 cm then it jammed, too high, probably could do 4-5 layers as long as it doesn't go over the 7.5-8mm like Sailrite says in their vids. It's definitely a beast, and for the weekend warrior, I find it worth it over the Sailrite for its price (I doubt it will break anytime soon, looks way too sturdy). Not pretty like a Sailrite but looks just as functional, end of story.
Hey sorry it took me so long to get to reply but the only thing control and make sure only to sell to people with sailrite machines is the monster wheel.
Thanks for your review. I just ordered one similar to yours (WM22ZZMW). I intend to make few upgrades like the SR WorkerB motor for additional control.
Your welcome, thanks for watching. I plan on doing a similar upgrade when I can. Been planning it for while just haven’t gotten to it.
How's it serving you several years out? Original parts available? Customer service?
Still working, only use it for binding anymore and anything I need a zig zag stitch for, but still like. Haven’t needed to repair so I am not sure about parts availability but I do know this machine is a clone and parts should be available. Haven’t contacted the people I bought it from on eBay so I can’t say about the CS. I do plan on hooking up a servo motor to it that I took off my other machine.
Thanks for watching
I too have not gotten what I expected from this machine. I have a WF24LNZZMW sewing machine and I really need help to install a servo motor, which I've already purchased. A belt or belts from the flywhee to the servo moter I need. But are unable to locate the proper belt of belts. Any and all help would be highly appreciated. My question is Have you made a video on how to install motor?
I have not changed the motor yet on mine, but I am assuming you can get what you need from sailrite. They have an option where you can put their servo motor on one of their zigzag machines.
I have not made a video yet but I will when I install the motor. You might want to check out the RUclips channel thejasonofalltrades, he has some videos on installing servo motors.
Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.
Anyway to upgrade the motor/slow speed operation? These seem to be like full throttle or nothing
Sailrite has an upgraded motor you can put on it, I think it is called the worker b motor. Eventually I am going to install the servo motor from my Thor sewing machine onto mine.
Here’s the link for the worker b motor and thanks for watching.
www.sailrite.com/Sailrite-WorkerB-Power-Pack-Motor-System-110V
I believe a huge part of the lack of slow speed operation is the cheap foot pedal control as well
I think you get a new foot pedal with the work b motor which I’m sure is 100x better.
Hi, I don't understand what you talking about between 6 minutes and 6min53. What is the piece of the walking foot are you talking about? Thanks.
The silver hinges on the back of the bed in the table, so you can tilt the machine back. Hopefully that’s what you are asking about.
Thanks for watching
do you have the procedure for setting the upper tension after replaicing the knob? the knobe was off and I don't know the initial setup.
Basically you keep on tightening the knob until you don’t have loops on the bottom of your fabric
Thank you for the video. I purchased an Omega machine very similar to yours. How did you get the binder attachment to screw into the machine’s base? On my machine the holes don’t seem to be tapped. Did you have to clean the paint out of the holes or use a tap to thread the holes?
Yes, and I had to tap the holes which was sort of difficult. I don't remember the size tap that I used. Its a good machine and was worked well for me. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this video! Learned a lot! I was searching for how to adjust the timing on mine. Got it from Canada same place you did I assume. You mentioned the book that came with it is hard to read and I AGREE! I can’t figure this out. Think you could show me how to adjust the gib timing/driver? Or could I download a sail rite manual like you mentioned and go through it there?
I ended up ordering a manual from sailrite and sailrite has a ton of videos that do a great job on explaining there machines which these ones from Canada and others like it are cloned after.
BlackLab Outdoors thanks!
Your welcome
Do you know if Sail rite LZS1 parts will fit the omega zig-zag
I believe so, I have bought pressure foot and monster wheel from sailrite for my machine
Does your longest forward stitch and reverse stitch have the same length? My TuffSew (same exact machine) does not.
I am not sure, never measured it. Never noticed it to be obviously different either. When I get it set back up I will definitely check it out.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
Hi. Great video. I was at their Montreal location yesterday, and I agree that the 9.5" work area is the main difference between all the knock offs. Seriously considering this due to very hi FE. rates. Need hinges, case for portability.Does post pin come with a monster wheel add on? Thanks for all this. And, after having finished two huge projects on my home singer 211, only now did I realize what a great idea you and the few other viewers found in running a second spool dedicated for bobbin refills.
Thank you for watching. Hmm I am not sure if it does or not but sailrite won’t sell you the monster wheel without proof of owning a sailrite machine. I know the Canadian company does sell a version of the monster wheel but I don’t think it uses the posi pin attachment method. Yeah it is helpfully running two spools.
i picked up a straight stitch one of these with the monster wheel on saturday in laval. it does not use the posi-pin system. it's a fine little machine. i'm using it for leather work.
@@ianhemingway5687 Hi Just rewatched your video again about 1 year later , and it is great. I bought it just for the larger 9.5" sewing area, and am very happy with the monster wheel supplied.Just recently sold my industrial singer 211 G as it was redundant with having this great machine. 2 questions what is the product number or spec I need if I want a needle plate, and any spec info on the size f the main motor belt going around the monster wheel. My machine may have been a demo so I see a few cracks in my large belt and would like to replace it locally. The cost of freight even from my 35 mile distance is more than the value of the belt if purchased directly. Regards Elliott
Thank you for the video-very well done! My domestic vintage machines are not made for the sail and light canvas work that I am doing, so I have started to look at machines like this-Omega, Sew-Line, Reliable Barracuda, Rex, etc. Hoping to save as much on the purchase as possible-could you recommend a least expensive model? Thank you! Randy
Glad you liked the video. Bought my eBay and haven’t checked those prices in a while but sometimes you can find older name brand industrial machines on there that just need a table and I have found them on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. But most of the off brands seem to be around the same price.
I have been sewing for a short period of time so my knowledge on machines are very limited. My current sewing machine was given to me. but I’m looking for a budget friendly machine that can get through a canvas boat enclosure and boat cover project. I feel like I could be in over my head, but if I can get advice on what the right machine would be, I’ll feel much more confident! I don’t need a bunch of bells and whistles, just the ability to get through those projects.
Thanks for the video. How much use has your machine seen? How has it held up over time? Thanks again, KB.
Yw, thanks for watching. Hmm, hard to say but have sewn probably a dozen or so bags, pot holders, and the biggest test was my tree saddle that I built. The saddle had some very thick assemblies, some had four layers of webbing. If you can get the machine for a decent price it I think it is worth it. But I would still check your local craigslist and Facebook market place for a used industrial machine. I know my local Craigslist had a juki 8700 for $400 and it came with a table, really good deal even though it isn’t a walking foot.
Hello . Thanks for the video. I have two questions. Is there a variable speed function and can I use .8mm thread in the 135/17 needles?
Thanks for watching. It’s controlled with a foot pedal, so more pressure the faster will sew and less pressure will produce slow stitching. It will take some practice. Not really sure what size thread .8mm. A good place for thread to needle size is on the thread exchange website.
Thanks for the quick response . There is one on kiji near me for $490CDN . I live in Manitoba, Canada. I think I will get it.
Np. Ok, good luck with it. They are nice machines. Sailrite has a colored manual that you can buy that is helpful. The machines are fairly identical.
The thickest you can go is a size 207/0.5mm thread and a #24 needle, though it is better to keep your max thickness to 138/0.4mm thread and a #22 or #23 needle. This is my actual experience with the Family Sew branded version of this machine.
@@pequodexpress Thanks for that information. It is good to know for when I am ordering thread.
Hello, I bought the same machine from the same supplier in Quebec Canada ... I live in Canada but I am having an awful time with my machine and the seller is not very helpful at all. I started making purses and I purchased it to as I required something heavy duty to sew through several layers of fabric, leather, suede and vinyl. I am using nylon bonded 69 thread but it will only sew a few stitches and then it starts skipping stitches I have tried adjusting the tension and the set screw with no luck. I went on the sailing website to see about purchasing their manual that you mentioned in your video but I am not finding it. I am desperate for help. If you could help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank You,
Cathy Cameron
Might try higher quality thread or needle. How many layers of fabric, does it fit freely under the pressure foot. Should only adjust the top or bottom tension if you are not getting right stitching.
I also have a Chinese clone of this machine. Sailrite is a fabulous company that provides many wonderful tutorials for this class of machine. There is a link to the Sailrite manual in the comments section of one of the Sailrite videos.
Just took my new machine to get it repaired for doing the same thing as yours, manufactures rep was useless. Worth the extra money to get it working.
@@richardkerby5311 what did you change ?
what's happened with your machine? do you still have it ?
Where did you get your binding attachment?
One I purchased from Sailrite and another one I bought from eBay
Thanks for watching
Do you know if it uses the same feet/attachments, for example the cording feet, that sailrite and other popular machines use?
The sailrite feet do work on this machine
BlackLab Outdoors Thanks....are you still happy with it? Any issues?
Is this brand any better than the other clones? Sailrite redesigned some of the flawed designed and problem parts. Is this an improvement or just another clone?
Hard to say, you are correct with the sailrite version that it is a good machine that is backed up by the manufacture. I haven’t used any other clones so I can really say this is better than the others. Price point and size of the bed is my reasoning for buying this one.
are you still running the machine, any issues?
I haven’t been lately. I am running a Thor 1541s right now, but when I get more room I am going to have it back up and running and I am going to have a servo motor attached to it. But still my only complaint was the presser foot height.
Why did you change the fly wheel?
Easier for to hand crank the needle when needed, easier to disengage the needle from moving when filling up a new bobbin as well as the possibility of upgrading to a servo motor from sailrite.
I have had nothing but trouble with mine. I have tried to get help from manufacture but could not understand what he wanted. I got tired of sending pictures of what I thought he wanted. I wish that I'd not have purchased a different machine. I've just taken a new machine in to get it repaired, at a cost of $225 pluse parts.
That sucks, I am sorry it didn't work out for you. Hopefully you can move onto a different machine.
Looks like a Sailrite LS-1 or LSZ-1 models except for the color.
Yep and the size of the bed
I cheap Chinese version of the sailrite !
What’s the model please?
WF24LNZZ, this the model number I found on eBay. But you will want to make sure it is the long arm version which has a 9” bed. There are couple different ones for sale from singerman12 on eBay one with a monster wheel and one without.
Thanks for watching
I just bought the WF24LNZZMW from clinique de la machine à coudre from Laval Quebec canada
Maybe it’s the same but with a monster wheel instead?
In your video, you were talking about a sailrite machine instruction manuel. Do you know the model? Thanks
That’s great, I hope works great for you.

Thanks for the video. I am about to pull the trigger on one of these Omega machines out of Canada. How was your transaction with Singerman12? Any regrets on the machine?
Bobbin is a regular size 15, have to change more often when using bigger thread, v69 and up. Pressure foot height is 3/8”, if it was half inch it would be perfect for me. I sew a lot of webbing and thicker assemblies.
Transaction went fine, shipping was reasonably fast. Communication has been fairly good. I don’t believe English is his first language though, but still able to clearly communicate. None so far, throw away the Chinese needles that come with it. The manual is a photo copy. I would get the manual from sailrite.
If I think of anything else I comment here for you.
Where is it made? Thank you
China, I got it the machine through singerman12 on eBay
