It’s a carry over. The tie was used to hold your collar together. It was so normal that not wearing one looks ‘off’ so it’s just carrier on. It’s a bit like how nowadays even if your trousers fit, most men will still wear a belt because to not wear one looks like you’ve forgotten something. Even though most tailors would tell you that a belt is a sign of a poorly fitted suit.
I quite enjoy these videos, they’re so much more calming and therapeutic than all the short form video content nowadays. So - Thank you. And I’m only 20, it feels like everyone in the comments are much older! I’ve seen your videos on hats and ties now, so it makes me curious - what about simple scarfs? What types of stylish and varied ties are there to wear in the modern day? What are other accessories we all have slept on?
Thanks for you comment. I only recently started thinking about clothes in this way. You might be interested in this one about wigs. ruclips.net/video/LC_DvCVV5T8/видео.html
Another great video to compliment your hat video bro. I always wondered the same thing about ties. You’re answering all these random questions about everyday wear.
I’m a 29 year old office worker in Melbourne, Australia, and I tend to wear a tie to work during the cooler months. Most of my male colleagues, even those much older and more senior, do not wear ties. I think a smart tie can make an outfit, but to each their own.
Hi there! I just found your channel thanks to your hat video and got suggested this one as well. I'm a 21yo french woman and I deeply love wearing ties. I really enjoy the business, tidy look it gives me, especially during the colder months. I have yet to find a way to wear one without overheating during the summer ahah. Anyway, like any clothing accessory, I think they can make a great fashion and social statement! Thanks for these videos, keep up the good work 😊
I love ties! They're a great way to give an outfit a lot of depth and uniqueness so to say. The best places to get ties in my opinion are thrift stores. The ties there often have intricate patterns and very unique colors, especially compared to the 1- or 2-color ties with boring patterns you'll find in regular stores. The best part is that second hand ties are dirt cheap because there's such a high supply of them since most people don't wear them anymore. I currently have 65 ties and I'm expecting that number to keep growing as I keep finding gorgeous ties in thrift stores, some for as little as 50 cents. I've been to university and worked in multiple offices and I'm almost always the only one wearing a tie. As a matter of fact, I've had a coworker give me a bag of ties he didn't need anymore for free and someone else in the company gave me some old company ties that had just been lying in storage somewhere for years, still in the plastic protective sleeve and all.
I just found your channel and I'm really enjoying your videos! They're so informative and you explain everything in a very nice, relaxed manner. Nothing like most youtube channels. Please keep up the good work!
This is a very good video. There are a lot of things I never knew about ties before. As a Croatian, I had to suffer because of this simple fashion accessory. Every year there is something called International Tie Day, which is celebrated in Croatia. (I don't believe it's celebrated in the rest of the world, even though it's called "international") And every year for the last 5 years, on Tie Day, I had to create a PowerPoint presentation about ties for English class. There's another one approaching and the likelihood of me going through that pain again is about 99%. I just want to respectfully ask to steal everything in this video so I can get a good grade. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. I feel your pain about ties. I had to wear them from primary school. Please feel free to use anything from the video and share it.
Strange, isn't it. I think it's because it was easy to carry in a suitcase and you only needed to press the part of the tie that isn't covered by the waistcoat. It's just a guess.
Thank you for your interesting videos. And thank God for the end of this annoying decorative fashion that has no other practical function than to magically attract tomate sauce when you eat pasta or soya souce when you eat sushi. And the phenomenon is directly prportional to the cost of the tie😅
The real history of ties is that they represent your masters yoke. By wearing them you show how deep your servitude is and despite being off the post you understand your place.
I believe the modern tie was to cover the shirt’s unsightly buttons.
Makes sense good insight

Your videos in general, and especially your videos on fashion, are wonderful and I hope that you receive the larger audience that you dearly deserve.

I wish your channel existed 18 years ago when I was homeschooling my children. I'm sure my children would've found this topic interesting.

I feel that to wear an open neck shirt with a jacket just looks untidy. If you want to dress casually then no problem, just do so.
What's annoying is that schoolchildren are still forced to wear them despite them no longer being required in a professional environment WTF?
I agree! I hated wearing the things. We even had to wear them at primary school.
Schools in which students are forced to dress properly will perform better and dedicate themselves more as well.

I am very much so happy that i stumbled upon your channel. cheers!

2:02 in spanish, the word for tie is “corbata”
Thanks for the vid. I always wondered why the tie press was smaller than the length of a tie.

In Germany we call ties "Krawatte", so the original name that references the croatians has stuck around.
In Italy, where I live ties are called cravatte.
I was hoping you'd go back to Medieval times and discuss the story that mens' ties originated as napkins.
That can be another video.
what an interesting video!
Glad you think so! Thanks!
Brilliant Amazing Wonderful content 🔥🎯🤓
Thanks a lot! I love making them. More on the way.
I dislike the look of the modern tie but other versions look good (when to wear them though?)
amazing video, great work 🔝🔝🔝
Thank you so much.
I for one loathe ties but enjoyed the video as having to wear one to work for more than I care to admit
I agree. As I said in the video, I started wearing them at school as part one the uniform. I learnt to hate them at an early age.
More videos on ties!
I'm researching for another one.

I'm from the midlands of England. Near Birmingham.
