- In this video, I am showing how to make Takoyaki, one of the most famous street food in Japan, often seen in TV series, Anime or Manga. In order to make Takoyaki, a special pan is required. The non-stick pan I am using in the video is made by a Japanese manufacturer "IWATANI" and can be purchased through Amazon.
US: www.amazon.com/Iwatani-Takoya...

Germany: www.amazon.de/Iwatani-Takoyak...
or search for "Iwatani Takoyaki grill pan" the online store available in your country.

I very much appreciate how you explain where all your dishes come from. Love the history and how simple you make everything seem.
Agree 100%. He is so informative and explanatory, but in a quick and no-nonsense way! ADHD heaven! LOL
My son always order this dish in a Japanese restaurant we go to regularly. Now we know how it is made. Thank you for showing us how it’s done.
This is the most DETAILED and THOROUGH explanation of every step of the process I've seen on YT!! Thank you sooooo much! I really appreciate how you walk us through every step of the process, including every single ingredient, their purposes, and their substitutions. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your recipe and your video. Thank you sooooo much again, I can't wait to make this once I get my own pan!!! :)))
I made it and it was delicious! The recipe worked.
My take (for future self that wants to remember)
- I doubled the recipe and mine yielded roughly 24 (my pan was 16).
- I didn't use octopus (fishballs, cheese, and mushrooms were what I had. I just chopped them to size) and pickled ginger (I added some freshly minced ginger and a light sprinkle of garlic powder instead once the batter was made).
- Instead of 2 tsp of soy sauce, I did 2 tbsps.
- The water I used was room temp.
- I added PLENTY of green onions. I had some leftover mushrooms, so I minced and added with the green onions.
- I added roughly 1-2 tbsp potato starch (couldn't find cornstarch)
- I added roughly 1 tbsp sesame oil to the finished batter
For the oil (the one on the pan) I used a 1 to 1 ratio of sesame oil and veg oil
Gomiyaki

From mexico I❤ the iwatani plate!! ....I never see it only an electric ....this is perfect
i just watched a man eat 16 takoyaki balls along with a bowl of rice. my stomach could never
I would finish those in a couple of minutes 😂
if you do calorie counting without sauces it's only 475 calories for takoyaki and that is with 10g of oil which is probably too much
Takoyaki kelihatanya enak banget kak terima kasih kak sharingnya
It looks delicious 😋
Awesome it's simple and would change to a vegetarian style.Thank you so much

What a nice little recipe. I've got a Takoyaki iron but recipes looked too difficult but I'm going to try this with prawn pieces. Octopus is hard to get where I live. I'm a new subscriber for you. Thank you from New Zealand.
Wow ❤ takoyaki i like it 😋
This looks fire.
I already have an Iwatani butane stove, so I got the takoyaki cover! I can't wait to try it this weekend.
Great job 👏.. looks Delish 😊
Taiji, I’m sorry that my thanks are so long overdue, but thank you very much for your recipe and tips. This is one of my son’s favorite foods, and so I wanted to make it at home since freshly made is always best. I have to admit I was a bit intimidated at first, but I bought an inexpensive pan as a trial run and followed your instructions. After a trip to my Asian grocery store, I was ready to tackle takoyaki. The first few tasted fine but looked ugly, but after a few tries, I got a lot better at it. There’s just something so comforting about the piping hot batter, tender octopus, sauces, and dancing bonito. I’ve made it often for the past year or so. Thank you again for giving me the confidence to try and for an excellent recipe.
Thank you so much
Im so going to try to make it ❤❤❤❤ so yummy 😋
looks so delicious. I wanna try it at home by myself. soon, I will start to learn and practice how to make takoyaki properly

Your food Japan video very superb i see your dishes very interested.iam in India.
It looks like it would be a good recipe with cold water lobster as well.
Weizenmehl :D somehow didn't expect that. Thanks for the great video! I am so close to biting the bullet and getting a pan myself. Takoyaki must be the single best streetfood I ever had the pleasure of eating
i want to try this but think I'll do shrimp instead. Now to go buy the pan and ingredients lol. Thanks for showing us how to make this.
wow i got hungry!!!
great!
exactly my intention!! lol
I'm not a fan of seafood... other than fish. But, I'm going to try making this with chicken! I think it'll still be yummy!
hello. Takoyaki pan bought today. i will do the recipe tomorrow. thank you. sorry for my english...🙏
I mean perfectly cooked
Thank u very much. I love takoyaki, but i can only found it in 'Liberdade' neighborhood (São Paulo, Brasil). Never found it at Japanase restaurants here, only with a old lady and her family at that neighborhood. I hate cooking, but since i dont find a place to buy, here i am
Wow sry I was so loaded trying to cook lol I had to sleep, trying again today 😵💫
I do not own a gas oven, but I hope a portable gas oven can work to cook this recipe. Thank you for sharing.
Hi, do you think I can make takoyaki in an aebleskiver pan??
Okay first try was overwhelming lmfao. Should I season my cast iron first? And if im burning too quick, should i use a lower heat? Thank you so much!
Wah looks delicious, want to cook it but i don't have that pan/? 😅
I don’t have a gas stove. Do you have any suggestion for a pan to use? I have a old stove that has coils.
Hi l am from Canada I have a cake ball pan you think I can use it to make to make it. Thanks
Omg, your recipe looks better than the restaurants I've eaten at here. What do you do the remaining octopus?
I tried this in Tokyo. I was expecting a firmer squid type texture but the octopus was very soft. The texture here looks firmer though.
Looks so yummy! Thank you for another amazing video.
hahaha, you are welcome! and thank You for your compliment!!
I’ve watched a lot of different videos on how to make this dish and I have to say that I actually like your video the best but I am wondering what would you recommend if all we have is an electric stove?
My virgin try yielded perfect succulent & moist balls bursting w umami flavor. Hurray!! No more pasar malam takoyaki for me. Completely doable @home❤❤
The octopus that I can buy where I live isn’t the red kind, will it still be good?
I made this dish using your recipe and I must say it tastes great even if I don't have any experience cooking this kind of dish. Thank you so much I appreciate the tutorial.
Endlich:) Ich liebe Takoyaki^^
Danke fürs Warten!
schön, dass es dir gefällt!!
@@taijiskitchen Ach kein Problem. Ich mag alle deine Videos zwar kenne ich viele Rezepte aber einige eben nicht. Und selbst wenn ich welche schon kenne ist es sehr interessant zu sehen was du anders machst:)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video. I love octopus, but have eaten it grilled in a salad. This looks like an excellent alternative.
Some suggestions:
Match is consistently used incorrectly in all your videos. Look it up. The word means: a contest in which people or teams compete against each other in a particular sport.
"a boxing match"
It’s usually used to convey the idea that the food, sauce or other product goes well with…. That would be a better phrase to use.
Another good word would be:
verb
3rd person present: complements
add to (something) in a way that enhances or improves it; make perfect.
"a classic blazer complements a look that's stylish or casual"
If something matches, it goes well with something else. It's akin to saying the two foods or flavors pair well together. His vocabulary choice is fine.
Can I use panko instead of the tempura crumbs? I hope they have Iwatani that’s usable for induction stoves. I love Takoyaki. I first tried it in Kyoto and here in Germany I get it everytime it’s on the menu. Seeing you enjoy your food is making me hungry! Hahahaha!
you could, but then it will not have the roasted aroma. its just like putting bread peaces. if you have a chance, fry the panko, then use the fried version.
While I don't have that device, I wonder if I coul'd try some kind of pancake?
of course you can try it just as a flat pancake, then its called Okonomiyaki.
Do they sell Takoyaki pans that work on induction stove?
How many servings does your recipe yield?
Takoyaki oishi neh!
Arigato〜〜!
Would it be easier with chopsticks? I know cooking chopsticks are popular in Japan although I'm not sure if they use them for this
So, is Takoyaki considered a meal by itself? Or should I serve it with another dish (besides rice)?
