    The reason all of the comments are about Paul Reynolds is because he was a musical prodigy and really brought the sound to the table. I love it.

      @@WarbossR0kt00fSant0s I would not discount Mike. He wrote the stupendously great songs. He was a hard worker. All of the Seagulls contributed to the awesomeness that could only be AFOS. Reno's guitar was key to their sound.

    Paul Reynolds minimalist guitar style defines originality. This era was when echo effects pedals made the scene. Paul's style refreshing and carries the arrangement and propels the song. Truly an original.

      They also did a reunion tour in the fall of 2004, but sadly it fell apart after a handful of shows as they started fighting again, and Mike ditched the others and went back to his touring band, but still promoted the remaining shows as "the original lineup" even though it wasn't.

    Appreciate the band and their music. It was Paul's guitar that gave them that great sound and made the band successful in my opinion. "I Ran" was one of the best songs every recorded and it still is a lot better than much of the music being produced today.

    • @ZyxthePest
      @ZyxthePest 10 лет назад +10

      Paul was far ahead of his time and The Edge clearly took influence (*cough* hijacked *cough*) his sound for U2. I'd love to hear a solo album from him one day. I also think Score had some clever lyrics and contributed to the band more than people give him credit for.
      Their third album, The Story Of A Young Heart is incredible.

    • @outtahere321
      @outtahere321 10 лет назад +5

      ZyxthePest I agree, the lyrics in the songs are really good. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into the songs from my perspective. I think Score is a really good songwriter. It is just too bad that they all couldn't really get along together long, but that seems to be the case in a lot of bands that are composed of true artists. Artists can be complicated at times.... I was married to one. haha

      It's very nice to know that! I see here in the comments people with different ages - the older generation, usually the first fans of the band, and the younger one including me. That shows how A Flock of Seagulls, as many other 80s groups, can conquer the mind of so many different people!
      Thanks for the comment, my friend.

      +W. Sta. Another big fan here in that huge age range. My partner and I had only been together for 6 mths when VH 1 did this - we had just moved in together and had foxtel.
      I had a 3 yr old, my partner and I now have 3 other kids aged 11, 9 and 2, with my eldest having just had the big end on year 10 weeks - she's 16 now.
      This show came on one night and said their mission was reunite Flock Of Seagulls - we were both "Omg, no way!! Love them!"....we had no idea the other even knew who they were, most people our generation didn't. We actually shared a very odd taste of 80's, 90's grunge, dance, and everything from Duran Duran to Tool, it was really uncanny.
      13 years on and we both still reckon the 80's were by far the best, even though I was just a kid. So our kids are raised on that same music - our 16 yr old down to our 2 yr old all absolutely adore this song and many others. My 2 yr old sings to all our 80's stuff, including this - he started watching and reacting to this song at 6mths of age, he'd jiggle up and down lol.
      What can I say - my kids have taste lol.

      +W. Sta. thanks :) Believe me, they all hate current stuff - even my 16 yr old who is a huge music fan appreciates the likes of these guys, Real Life, Duran Duran and the like over anything else.
      We like to ensure we are raising the next generation properly - Bieber, 1D, Kanye West and all those are totally banned here lol. Not by me either (though I would lol), by my 11 yr old daughter...she leaves Max on or downloads stuff like this and has it playing when doing homework :)

    I've seen these guys back in 1983 at the Northrop Auditorium here in Minneapolis, Mn. I was just a young boy of just 15 years old. I bought 2 tix which was $10.00/piece. No one liked them in the crowed I hung out with but I was in one of those fazes that most teens go through. Point is, the day of the show my bros girlfriend (much older than me and drove) went with me. The day of the show (It was summer @ around 7pm cst) she picked me up I was so damn excited to go that I forgot to put my shoes on!!! I didn't even discover this until we got there!!! They even asked the fans to come up on the stage and I was up there. I even got to touch Mike's K/B!! The FIXX opened up for 'em. Good memories

    In the 80's A Flock of Seagulls was the freshest and newest and best addition to the punk( new wave) scene, but it wasn't just Mike Score's hairdo( the look) or Paul Reynolds out of this world guitar playing, it was the combination of all four members, the fab four, loved throughout the world, and it combined the look, and magnificent music. All of the sudden it was gone, with people wondering if there would ever be more music, another album, or some kindof reunion? It brought a tear to my eye when this band agreed to get back together for this reunion, and as Mike Score noted, that if a band can't settle their differences after 20 yrs. they definetly shouldnt be together, but these guys should be together again.

      +brianthesnail1234 Nice story Brian! 4 lads from Liverpool with haircuts that influenced a decade... I guy named Paul outside of the Cavern Club... well, okay not THOSE 4 lads! Flock was always one of my favorites back in the early mid 80s for me as a teen growing up in Chicago... still listen to all of those great tunes!

      Your incorrect, only 2 of them was actually born in Liverpool,the guitarist (Paul Reynolds)
      And bass player (Frank Maudsley) the score brothers are originally from yourkshire, and Pete burns never actually owned probe records,he worked there.

    Problem is Mike Score is so far up his own arse he did not know what they had until it was all over.
    I would like to see Frank and Paul should do something together.

      Frank & Paul are still close friends. They both still live in Liverpool. But sadly Paul suffered a stroke in early 2020. He's doing ok, but I have heard he can't play anymore.

      Mike took a little extra persuasion though. You can tell he kinda wasn't totally into it. At that time he was about to do a solo album and wanted to concentrate on that. The other three though were definitely into and and were enjoying themselves.

    Well done for reuniting.
    I loved this TV series - wish they would bring it back because there is still great love for retro music and there are so many people from former bands out there that could be approached to settle / forget past hurts and grievances and just get back together and perform again.
    I nominate Brother Beyond for starters 👍

    I have to disagree with Mike score... if you watch the entire episode he talk about how he made the band, everyone came to see him. Paul Reynolds made the band... he gave them the sounds of A Flock of Seagulls

      Sure Mike score formed the band and it wasn't all Paul Reynolds though sure he played a big part but in my opinion they all did their part to make their music great

    • @AJ17_
      @AJ17_ 8 месяцев назад

      The "rock & roll lifestyle" took a toll on him and he's struggled with addiction ever since the 80s. And then in early 2020 he suffered a stroke that he's still recovering from. He's doing ok, but sadly from what I've heard, he can't play anymore.
