Paul Reynolds is a genius. There is no Flock of Seagulls without his brilliant guitar work...
Great to see Mike putting his ego aside and reuniting with the original band.Cant replace the magic the original four guys made.
@Kommander Mac
Say what? Have no clue what you are going on about🤷♀️
Agreed it was AWESOME when they reunited for the where are they know show.
Performed few songs live in UK

The problem has never been Mike's ego. What are you talking about?
Paul hated the industry and had a breakdown, hes the youngest of the 4 and looks the oldest by a lot. The other 3 tried to continue but things fell apart without paul(the best musician) frank and ali found other things to do instead of struggle on tour. Afos exists as it does now because mike never gave up after trying to reform. Now he tours without the other 3 but he built that format and was key to other 80s bands being able to perform now.
I met Reno in a pub in Sunderland 11 years ago. I was 26 at the time and he was shocked anyone so young would recognise him. We spent a good few hours chatting. He was with his girlfriend and I was with mine at the time. He bought us all drinks and told us stories of being on tour and playing with the Police. He gave me his autograph which he wrote in lipstick and eyeliner. To say it was a highlight was an understatement, he influenced my guitar playing so much as a teenager and I told him about some relevant bands of the time that used his same echo, delay, distortion sound/technique ie Les Savy Fav. Thanks Paul. You are an underrated guitarist by miles and a lovely dude.
To see this band back together means so much to me as Paul, in meeting him, said it was unlikely. One of the best debut albums ever and a look and sound that will last longer than all of us put together. Massively underrated band but that also makes them so special. x
Paul is quiet and unassuming while the others big it up, but he was the one who made their sound. Without him on guitar they wouldn't have been nearly as big. An under-appreciated creative genius, all the best to you Paul!
They are old. Which means I am old. However, nothing wrong with growing old, as long as one feels young at heart.
I waited 17 years between Donna Summer albums. I waited 19 years between Grace Jones albums. I waited 25 years to see Yazoo reconnected. Congratulations guys, 34 years between albums with all four! Can't wait to hear it! CHEERS!
Paul Raynolds! we love you!!!
One of the few bands where every member was equally as crucial.. it's crazy. Paul was a genius.. Absolutely genius.
Still remember walking out of the shopping mall with their first cassette in my bag at 11 years old. Please take me back to those days :(
Paul has got such a cool and calm vibe 😎
Always have ☺️❤️
I recently introduced my 10-year old son to A Flock of Seagulls. I was in a restaurant a few months ago, and over the din of the crowd, I heard Space Age Love Song, and it brought back so many memories for me growing up in the 80's. I bought the Best Of album, and my son asks to listen to it in the car every day.
This makes me feel there’s hope for the world. Your son is that hope.
I was in my teens and remember Aurora Borealis was the most futuristic/ethereal sounding word in a song. Paul Reynolds super brilliant and very underrated guitarist I think.. he made the trademark seagull "call" sound with his guitar.
Wishing If I Had a Photograph of You the album/CD and MTV was the ultimate A Flock of Seagulls for me.
I can’t wait, I love your music! I I’m 52 and from a small town in the us , Oklahoma. I am an avionics technician for American Airlines.
AFOS were successful because of their talent and honesty. They were not trying to be successful but rather they did what they did and it hit big. They were also fun.
Mike Score used to cut my hair in the late 70's early 80's. Mike if you read this, it was in the grotty little salon above a shop in Whitechapel, Liverpool. I seem to recall Frank Maudsley being there too. I have a feeling you also used the salon as either a store for your music gear and a practice room.
Probably my favorite new wave band glad they seem happy again
Fan from the beginning here. I was 1 years old and heard " I Ran ". To the record store I went and there it was, your album, bought it, and have been a fan ever since. %% years old now and I still thing " Space Age Love Song " is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard !
I think at 1 years old I was probably still sucking milk from titties let alone listening to music & going to the record store - how'd u get high enough to the counter to pay, damn at 1 year old where u get the money? Actually, how the fu.k u get to the store, did u do a Fred Flintstone in your pram? 😂
What a wonderful Era of music!. I was 13 in 83, and what a time! Movies were great, and what a variety of music! And I might say, Flock of seagulls are the sound that defined the 80's.
My Mom had Listen on cassette tape and I remember listening to it while riding around in her car when it was new. I told her it was my favorite. My next door neighbor and I would always watch MTV at her place and the music videos for “I Ran,” “ Space Age Love Song” and “Wishing” were unforgettable. I’m looking forward to the new album.
So weird to see my old heroes as older guys. They could be truck drivers. But they were A Flock Of Seagulls...One of our fave bands of the era.. Times a weird river...
What I like is still seeing all 4 of these guys together
please please please please please please please stay together for good.
Best comment on RUclips. xx
Good to see Paul's look finally caught up with his voice.
i am so happy .the day when you would all be back together has been a dream.now a reality .making the best music of your lives.
Looking forward to the new album, great to see the original members together again, the Seagulls music will never die, the Seagulls soar again!!
"...the Beatles stood right here, and now, WE'RE here, and we're from the same place as them...." THAT realization must have been both humbling, prideful, and majestic!
I was thinking the same thing.
How enormous and overwelming to actually do a thing like that.
To be from Liverpool gives a person pride because they gifted the world the Beatles and also be a Flock of seagulls following their footsteps. The Band must have felt more emotions than anyone can imagine. It would blow my regular person mind for sure
I don't know why, but for a few years I've known this band (I clarify that I'm 19 years old) it has become my favorite and it fills me with emotion to see how they started young and are now legendary. His songs will never die. Here's a fan of yours from another generation. Greetings from Peru
Note: I'm driving my mom crazy with the idea of doing Mike's 80's hairstyle.
Saw them in Memphis in 1984 following the release of 'Story of a Young Heart'! Great concert!!! I just purchased the 'Ascension' CD. Awesome!! I'm 70. 👍
We are all older physically but we retain that spirit we had during the 80's. Band's like A Flock of Seagulls, Tears for Fears, The Cars, Depeche Mode, and so many more still have a place in our hearts and I appreciate this group continuing to be a player in today's music.
great to see the guys back together!
This is so weird. I was all over music at that time going to as many shows as I could afford. But I never gave these guys the time of day because of the hairdo, Pauls glasses, and what they wore. Sure, it all looks like iconic New Wave stuff now, but back then everybody I knew thought of them as a joke for the very same reason as me. And it's only now that I realize what great musicians these guys really are. People continually point out what a great guitarist Paul is, and for good reason. But Frank kills it on bass too, with Ali no slouch either. And Mikes vocals are perfect for the band and his keyboard playing top notch too!
The fact they got their name from The Stranglers "Toiler on the Sea" just floors me! The Stranglers album Black and White is Incredible! But so different than these guys. It's hard, heavy, with bass playing so chunky nobody can ever forget the band after hearing it ... and then to learn The Flock of Seagulls got their name from that lyric in that song .... BOOM! Mind blown ...
I was 19 when these guy’s became a band, I’m 57 now how time flies.
i hear ya
I hear you too.....(age 60)
The guitar sound was so unique I just loved it.
This music will never get old, just re-discovered by next generations.
love Paul Reynolds
I'll never stop listening to you guys, your songs are timeless. Love from Brazil.
I had the opportunity to meet Mike Score back in August of 2000 after a show at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. Wang Chung and Gene Loves Jezebel were also on the bill, although I went to see AFOS. The show was not very well attended and when I looked back during the GLJ set, Mike was just standing in the back all alone watching them. I approached him and introduced myself and told him how much I loved their music. He was an extremely nice and gracious guy and talked to me for quite some time. Great guys. Great music. Glad to see them doing something again.
AWESOME !!!!!!!!! a NEW ALBUM !!!!!! 34 years later,, I'm 51 . THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS !!!
So glad Ali said man made that song is criminally underrated
Still loving them. The music is timeless. Happy days.
my favourite 80s band hands down . ive never stopped listening
Respect to the fantastic 4 and Paul reynolds........you my friend were the thumbprint of the band. Keep strumming and creating echo 👊
I'm 62 and pretty much the same age as these guys and I really liked them when they hit the New Wave scene in the late 70's. I remember finding out in 1979 that Paul Reynolds was a year younger than me and here he was just coming up to 18 and the lead guitarist for an internationally recognised band - very inspiring! I'm glad to see the lads got back together a few years back for a little while and it was especially nice to hear that Paul Reynolds seems to have recovered from his mental health and addiction problems he ad in the early/mid 80's.
They came to hear the sound, see your hair and watch young Paul play that guitar like a hero.
So happy to see them together. Glorious.
I loved this! Mike, Ali, Frank and Paul are all great musicians. Enjoyed hearing the favorite song of each member. Looking forward to the new album!
I'll never stop listening to you guys, and I hope to see you all together in a concert very soon guys, a Venezuelan from NYC
I love your music. Love Paul ❤️ and his guitar 🎸 skills. Totally underrated.
Interesting no one said Space Age Love Song was their favorite song. This was my choice. First time I heard it I was blown away. Love this band.
That was wonderful...I actually cried when they sang again..one of the most unique sounds of all time...I am so glad I lived at that time ...thank you seagulls!!!
So glad these gentleman are still around and still playing. This was good music when times were so much better.
Frank Maudsley's scouse accent is fantastic
I love that they're back together. The new album is not really a new album It's orchestral accompaniment versions of all their hits. I want to hear some brand-new hard-hitting rock guitar and synthesizer Beats from these guys once again!.
Yeah I wanna hear these guys hit out some originals. They still have the mojo
The first band I've ever gotten into; my favorite band; back together again!
I remember the very first time I saw "The Flock" back in the early days of MTV....I recall telling my then girlfriend that this Band was way ahead of it's time.....Glad to see them getting a second chance to impress my Grand-kids now....Cheers Everyone!!!
Though I grew up in the 80's and played guitar for many years, only recently have I tried playing Flock of Seagulls songs. In doing so I have discovered what a simplistic yet genius guitarist Paul Reynolds is. I've really come to appreciate his style.
Old Men now, that made some of the coolest music known to Man- that can't be duplicated!
Common Sense Machine ....known to womon; don’t be sexist misogynistic pig 😡😡😡😡😡😡
Funny that Ali Score said Man Made as the drums are pretty simple in that. It is my favorite song by them. Heavy atmosphere and great guitar by Paul Reynolds.
Man made is just simply brilliant, Paul Reynold's.
They helped define the 80's. Rock On!!! ohmygosh I played that album so much you could see through it!! LOL
Space Age Love Song...greatest love song... ever
EVER!!!
@@allthingsbeginAMEN !!!!!!!!!
Favorite song by AFoS is “Space Age Love Song”.
I LOVE A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!!!!!
I LOVE A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS Period
These guys are incredible, way ahead of their time.
Didn't get their music back at the time, My loss, Remember seeing them on the VH1 Reunion and thought WOW !!, will be buying this album for sure
Thank goodness! Peace Christo 🎶🎶👏🏻👏🏻👽👽🔦🔦🐕🐕✌🏻✌🏻🙏🙏🕺🕺🛸🛸👍🏻👍🏻
Love Paul !
ITS PAULLLLLL
Transferaffection he's still cool x
Awesome interview (though most hardcore AFOS fans knew most, if not all of this info)! Paul kinda reminds me of Ian McCulloch here. Please don't leave us hanging here, we *_NEED_* an original lineup tour... please (yes, I'm *begging* on behalf of all the longtime, hardcore AFOS fans).
(P.S. _'A Flock Of Seagulls',_ _'Listen'_ and _'The Story Of A Young Heart',_ each in their *entirety,* with each member's musical contributions, are Post Punk/New Wave/Synth Rock *_MASTERPIECES_* (though I really like _'DCT'_ and _'TLATEOTW'_ as well). Not just in terms of 80's music but, awesome music in general as a whole...)
I love everything about them. They're fantastic. I wish they really were "BACK" together to perform.
Good to see Paul again
Great to see them together again. My only hope is they'll tour together very soon. I haven't bought a music CD in so many years now, but I think I'll be buying the Ascension album.
It's great to see the guys back together again, I lost the band's track soon after the Bands Reunited episode...
pauls voice is just legendary
Now let's see the original line up live, I have no desire to see Mikes solo with his back up band. No offense to the band but the original line up as shown in this video is what fans want to see and hear.
I think they should do a show together again, the four original members with the best songs somewhere great, being a big event recorded with professional cameras to be eternalized on a special DVD released worldwide, for all fans.
In the 80s I was only 12-13 but enjoy everything about it because of my older brother.
I still wish you guys would tour the USA.
They'll be with the Lost 80's tour. Aug. 31 in San Diego baby!!!
Four great guys who made kick ass music and here's the thing: when their songs came out n the early 80s it was groundbreaking sound. The guitars, the drums, voice---it was weird and sublime at the same time. You wouldn't have felt out of place dancing to it in a church if you know what I mean. My hat off to you for giving me that gift, man. Wow.
Will not stop listening to the great sound o The Flock of Seagulls, love Paul guitar sound. Mike lyrics and voice. Frank bass sound amazing. Love their music it was it is something else.
I have loved them since 1984. They are and always will be my favorite band. God bless you and keep you Mike, Frank, Paul and Ali.
So stoked! I’ve been listening to AFOS and LISTEN records since they were first released! Glad to see them back even if it’s just for a little while. 😎👍🏽❤️
You should really include _'The Story Of A Young Heart'_ with the other 2 albums. They are a masterpiece trilogy...
Got to see them in the front row on their first US club tour in Boulder, CO, and blagged my way backstage! They were some of the nicest musicians I've ever met. Paul even went off to fetch me a beer! Trivia note: he didn't use a plectrum to play guitar, he used an English shilling, like his guitar hero Brian May.
@@marikoone Wow, l have no idea. Sorry!
@@marikoone Hey Carol, l just scoured the web as best l could and l didn't see any info that indicates the original band would be touring. A shame. I guess we have to be happy that they got back into the studio one more time!
@@marikoone lt is a shame. l never thought they were quite the same without dear Paul, but l believe he is too emotionally fragile to tour (or even be in the band, perhaps). If that is truly the case l'd prefer he weren't there...
Frank especially seems like a super friendly guy.
Carol C I saw Mike with his new bandmates a few years back, that’s really all there is. Unless it was some sort of special event show, or reunion tour, I wouldn’t expect anyone beyond Mike.
''The More You Live ,The More You Love'' and ''I Ran'' changed my life, listen them always, big thanks A Flock Of Seagulls !!!
Great to see you guy's getting along, KEEP IT GOING 💚💚💚💚LOVE from Dublin

Great to see the band back together. I was a lad in the eighties who fell in love with the sound and I still get the buzz when I play their music.
The States loved and still love AFOS. There will never be another group like them.
One of the best bands EVER!!! I LOVE ALL FOUR OF YOU!!!
These guys helped define the sound of the 80's. Their brand of Synth pop is instantly recognisable to fans of 80's music. A great band that made it in the states.
To everyone who is making comments about how they have aged. Well you are not getting any younger either. Get it? I am in the same age group as these guys and I think they all look great. AND Mike and Ali do have love for each other. Despite their troubles, they are still brothers at the end of the day. I wish all four of them would start making albums again!
A tour with all 4 would be cool, has with kiss i hate watching half of a band,Not the same at all..
How time flies ,like a flock of seagulls ...
Their songs are timeless. It is part of my daily drive.
I'm glad to see them back together !
Great stuff. I was a fan from the beginning and I’ll certainly be to the end. Thanks guys for all the music & memories 🤘🏼
Some melodies, you hear them and they remain with you forever.
Flock of Seagulls...were at the US Festival 2....great memories!!
Thank you for reuniting
