- A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran
I walked along the avenue.
I never thought I'd meet a girl like you;
Meet a girl like you.
With auburn hair and tawny eyes;
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through;
Hypnotize me through.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.
A cloud appears above your head;
A beam of light comes shining down on you,
Shining down on you.
The cloud is moving nearer still.
Aurora Borealis comes in view;
Aurora comes in view.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.
Reached out a hand to touch your face;
You're slowly disappearing from my view;
Disappearing from my view.
Reached out a hand to try again;
I'm floating in a beam of light with you;
A beam of light with you.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I couldn't get away.
Everyone talking about Reynolds guitar playing in the comments rightfully so, but Frank Maudsley’s bass line also makes this song
Its sooo true franks bass playing seems to go unnoticed when really it lends to the songs success
Frank had so much energy, no slouch at Bass...high energy and very Pretty!
Yep, everything is stunning
He's one of my favorite Bassist.
Every member of that band looked the part with incredible talent and vocals and stage presence.⚡️
Jesus, it's been 41 years since I first watched them on MTV. It's crazy how 41 years just flashed by. Man, the 80's, what a time to be alive. No matter how much our society has gone down the drain, I'll always have my memories of the 80's. If I had only one wish, I'd wish that my life could be put on repeat from 1978 - 1989 and live there forever. Those were the magic years for me. I lived them, I loved them, I miss them.
I agree 110% I battled depression in the 90's and 2000's was tough knowing how much fun I had in the 80's and those great times will never come back.I always think of what I did in the 80's a shame life works this way.GL to you
Screaming seagull guitars from Paul Reynolds.. bloody fantastic!
Very wicked...
Right on bro Paul is the deal
Yes and it sounds exactly like a real seagull, I hear seagulls scream everyday because that's Utah's state bird.
Man, the live sound they make is so fucking amazing, they sound glorious. I feel I am through galaxies.
paul reynolds' creation of his massively influential and endlessly imitated guitar sound is a mark of genius and his legend is ever growing...
The Edge before The Edge
This song Reno said was his favorite, think he likes playing this riff!
@@janebraun4482 In an interview in 2018, he said his favorite was Electrics.
Reynolds shows just how simple a guitar lead can be and still sound amazing!
I've never seen this version before, just when I thought Paul Reynolds couldn't get any better....I'm electrified to the next level!
Very under-rated! They sure deserved the grammy!
Actually they earned a Grammy for best rock instrumental for the track " DNA" .
Mike may have written the songs but boy Paul is the star and that guitar
Paul Reynolds is a bad ass cat on the lead guitar .....insane stuff.....word
15 yrs old
No he's 20 here
@@s.a.visotsky2065 He was 20 in this performance. Paul was 17 when he joined the band in early 1980. He just looked younger, so his age was misreported a lot.
Love how Paul is getting the crowd amped up in the beginning. When he looks up from playing and smiles like “yeah y’all like that shit” 😂🔥
Paul Reynolds to me, made the band. His guitar playing for someone his age was way ahead of the times........
To have that kind of talent and technique at a young age (he was just 17 when he joined the band), shows he is/was gifted musically. After he left the band, they totally lost their sound. Paul is what made the band so unique from other similar bands at the time.
Goddamn Paul is a guitar hero. And he's hot as hell😍😍👏🏻👏🏻
Mike is too, his keyboard work is good, I like all of them tho, Ali's drum work is amazing, I like Mike tho he is cute 🤩😍 and that hair tho I like it.
Oh Paul was so effing hot back in the day. I'm still crushing on him 40 years later. 😍🥰
love the the sound Renolds makes from his guitar of Segulls gathering. at the begining of the song (: But the whole song is just brilliantly perfect (: Awesome (:
They had a look, and they had a sound!
TristanThePest You got that right (:
eddieforfun Absolutely (:
Should of been bigger at the time, fantastic live band. Remember there was a lot of crap in the 80s where bands couldn’t do it live, these guys could.
Oh Bands Reunited, even Paul said they could've been the biggest band in the world. But there was a lot of drama and in-fighting that tore the band apart.
Reynolds, gotta be one the most underated guitarists in music! Feckin legend imo, watch the vh1 vod when they all get back together after 20 yrs, they've just made a new album, original lineup! :)
My question is are they toring with the original lineup or is it the lineup that Mike score made up?
@@mikefobfan101 I think it’s all original members. As they got older they realized their petty infighting was lame af. As a group they were popular but as solo artists none of them were that great on their respective instruments imo. It took some time for some of the members to realize that but once they did they got back together. They never should’ve broken up.
@@mikefobfan101 Not the original lineup touring. It's Mike and his backup band. The original lineup hasn't toured together since the very brief reunion tour they did in 2004 after Bands Reunited. It fizzled out quickly as they started fighting again and old drama resurfaced. The reunion in 2018 wasn't much of a real one either as they all recorded their parts separately and sent them in to be mixed. The video they did for the orchestral version of Space Age Love Song was basically done at a moment's notice. Mike was in Liverpool for a couple days, found out Paul & Frank were available, so the 3 of them filmed their parts together in the studio (Ali filmed his part separate as he lives in America). And that was it. They're all friends, but they really can only get along as long as no one brings up any past BS. If that happens... game over and they'll start bickering again.
@@mikefobfan101 Mike lives in the USA wheras Paul and Frank are back in Liverpool. Ali retired from being a full time musician a long time ago
Every song they ever came out with is a masterpiece
Best version. Epic
Everything they ever done is epic❤️❤️❤️
There is a reference in one of the Austin Powers movies by Mike Myers who asks the question 🤔 "What were the 80's?
And Myer's answer to his own question was
" something something (can't remember that part) and a Flock of Seagulls". So True. This Brixton live video is when this band was peaking. Excellent. Flawless. Profound. Matchless. The 80's.
A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS 🕊
Always loved the guitar work on this song.
Am I crazy to say Paul is one of the greatest guitar players of all time? I think he is.
You aren't crazy. I agree totally!
The Edge before The Edge.
@@zenpaganwarrior See how fast his fingers move!!
If you're crazy, than I am too for agreeing. 100% dude was legit.
Yes that is not the truest statement ever mate.
Great nostalgia.I miss the 80's..They were just starting to realize their world wide success. WOW!!
The Solo at 3:08 gets me everytime, really amazing work.
That solo... It worked! Totally in touch with the song!
It’s badass!
Love the close-up on Paul's guitar
❤️
PAUL'S IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPERIMENTAL STYLES .COMPLEATLY UNIQUE.
Not really he's using affects a delay echo its nothing new even in 1983
@@cathalsweeney6 He did not invent it, but.....he was an original to really bring it to the fore!!
Paul u genius!! Love you!
For whatever reason this song gives me chills when i listen to it. Paul yeah a badass musician!
Reno makes that guitar sing.
Correct bro
Man 80s was the future we were promised but never got.
A Flock of Seagulls is one of the greatest bands to emerge from the 1980’s with the most unique sound that puts them in the R&R Hall of Fame.
una de las canciones importantes en la escena del genero rock-pop de los 80s
Good clear shot showing Paul always uses a coin as a pick on “I Ran”
When music was music...80's fuckin' RULE...🤘⚡🔥...the audience is having a blast...Luv It!..🤘🤘🤘
Extraordinária música 💚💛💙🇧🇷
92.3 EON FM. I remember that radio station was big in Melbourne Australia in 1983.
The guitarist never gets enough credit
Agreed. Paul had amazing talent and technique for someone so young (he was 20 in this clip). But he wasn't in the game very long (was in the band from 1980-1984 before leaving due to extreme exhaustion & ended up having a nervous breakdown), so most people forget about him. But those of who know... we know.
ME ENCANTA ESTA BANDA!!!!!!
y a quien no......si es un ...BANDONNNNN.......
Pauls's so fucking amazing
Goddamn that kid knew how to play the guitar! I don't remember him being that young.
Paul Reynolds the guitarist was only 20 years old when they hit it big in 1982.
he was 18 when he joined the band, a guitar prodigy, unfortunately the lifestyle and coke pretty much ruined him.
@@sausageslaps By his own words, he was actually 17 when he joined. There was a song in the can, that Paul gave Title to, he named it Space Age Love Song!! Very proud of you Paul.
@@janebraun4482 i read a factiod about the band and they state he was 18, perhaps its incorrect
@@sausageslaps Paul was born August 4, 1962 (his bday is just 4 days before mine). He joined the band in early 1980, when he was 17 (and turned 18 that summer). He was 19 when their 1st album was released in spring 1982 and had a Grammy to his name when he was 20.
I do agree with the people,Paul is good
fuck me, he is one hell of a guitarist
AGUANTE A Flock Of Seagulls UNA DE LAS MEJORES BANDAS DE LOS 80....
I'm 61 in 2023 I remember when this first came out in 1982 living in New Jersey..man that was the greatest times
I've loved this for so long.. such a catchy tune!!! And I've tawny eyes and the hair too though it's reverting to it's natural shade moment by moment

Guitarra vs bateria 🤩🙆🏻♂️👏👏👏
Does anyone know what Paul did in the years following his depature?
Wow, this band was so awesome, way ahead of it's time.
They were so very talented.
This is truly a masterpiece, the way each instrument is played.
I wish l could turn back time.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Paul Reynolds is fuckin a guitar monster! damn..he is so cool !!!

Legendary
That's A "BC RICH" Guitar He Is Playing On!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎼😳☺️😉👍
no, it is his famous "Kramer XL 5" with the splitted guitar head
It's a custom 1980 Kramer XL-5 with an aluminum neck.
Without this song the 80’s would have been shit.!!!!!!!!
i have watched several clips from this concert, who ever is filming it, EVERY time Paul is ripping it up they are filming everything BUT Paul.
I know. That has always annoyed me too. Just keep the camera trained on Paul. Not rocket science.
Wonderland yt.hier mal repaet 400x eingestellt kann man nicht genug von kriegen hammer und go..lg mic.
Love brixton.. I imagine with FOS it's even better..
There are a couple of live recordings of this song and both are very impressive. Who knew they were that good live? Not me, unfortunately. Tight, punchy and actually better than the studio version, which is a relatively rare commodity among bands.
Trump was such a great singer back then...
😂
🤣🤣🤣, he wishes lol, I do like Mike Score's hairdo though especially when he has the wings on the sides it makes it look more like a seagull.
I couldn't get away...
Óh my god paul reynolds !
Best crowd
Paul Reynolds. Oo lala
Paul is rather good
PAUL QUITAR KILSSSSS WTF LOVE NEW WAVE ERA
54YEARS OLD. AND IRANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
its PAUL
Lol Mike score dancing on keyboard 😂
👌😅
I don’t think the drummer can physically hit his hi hat and snare module at the same time.
And i ran, I ran from vice city pd..i couldn't get away.
I know the guitar, bass and drums are live, but the vocals sound playback. Does anyone know if they are live or not?
It's all live.
@@AJ17_ ohh ok ty
4:23 DESPICE!
Why is Mike Score acting like he the one who play guitar better than any one else it is down right shameful
Score's the weakest member of the band - his voice only came out okay in studio, edited, clean-up to death. Live, he drowns the others out. Reynolds is an absolute guitar hero; the bass player is pretty damn good too. But Reynolds was off the charts good at the time, and 'I Ran' is one of the great guitar songs that people probably don't associate with being a guitar song - but it is.
"the bass player is pretty damn good too"
yes!
Agree on all counts, great post. Frank Maudsley got no credit as a bass player but probably should, he was always solid as a rock. And Paul Reynolds is simply fantastic, very original without ever being overly complicated. And your comment about this being a guitar song that people don't think of as a guitar song --- nailed it, spot on observation.
@@emmapeel38 but if it wasn't for him there'd be no afos
@@makypine4829 Paul, awesome! !
New order or Joy Division must be seriously jealous of this song 🎧
0:33 I Ran
Son todos buenos musicos , pero la tarea mas fuerte me parece que la lleva el batería
For fuck sakes, turn on the AC…they sweating bullets
Why the hell don’t they tour as the Original 1980’s AFOSG Members anymore?? That’s what the fans really want!! The current line up with just Mike Score is like a horrible cover band.
They tried in 2004 after Bands Reunited. It imploded pretty quickly as old drama resurfaced and they started fighting again. Mike quickly ditched Frank, Paul & Ali, and went back to his touring band (though still promoting the remaining shows as "the original lineup"... how effed up is that?). And as much as I would LOVE to see them try one more time, I don't think it'll happen thanks to Mike's ego, plus Frank and Paul both have health issues (Frank has a rare heart condition and has a pacemaker, and Paul is recovering from a stroke he suffered in early 2020, though I've heard he's been doing better).
Where are they doing now?
Mike still tours using the AFOS name, but it's just him and a backup band. Ali lives in America (North Carolina I think) and worked as a quality control manager at a plastics company (I heard he currently also plays in a local band in his area). Frank had a bed & breakfast in the south of France for awhile, but got bored with it after the VH1 Bands reunited thing in 2003 and moved back to Liverpool, where I believe he still lives. He also has a rare heart condition that was discovered around 2018 and he has a pacemaker. Paul still lives in Liverpool and apparently worked as a freelance musician (also heard he played in a jazz band at some point), but he suffered a stroke in early 2020 and he's still recovering from that (though I've heard recently that's he's been doing better, which I hope is true).
is that venus hum?
The Lead Singer Was Trying To Be A "Hairstylist"!🤣🤣🤣
His hairdo is cool, I like it, especially when he has the wings on the sides, it makes it look even better, he doesn't have his hair anymore though.
@@auroraedwards8181 Yes. It Was Cool 😎 Too Bad He Doesn't have His Hair Anymore.😡
@@pierremaury4137 True, it does suck that he doesn't have it anymore and too bad the other original members aren't with him anymore.
