Yes... I am so with you! Exactly what you said, "You take all this time growing your hair out, go for just a simple trim of your split ends and you end up getting A HAIR CUT!" Then when you ask, "Why so much? She says, 'I cut only what you asked for.'" It's so frustrating! Thank you for a very explicit tutorial on trimming my split ends. I'm going to send up a prayer, and ask the good LORD to guide my hands and I am going to do it myself.
I had this white girl I took a chance on who worked at one of those chain salons. She is the only person I have ever trusted to trim my hair. She was definitely WOKE on natural hair care. Sadly she left and I haven’t been able to find her. I’m glad to have come across this video cuz ya girl is DUE!

4:00-5:00 I've been through it way too many times. Happened again a little over a month ago. It was especially devastating this time because I was being more diligent with my hair than usual, it had a great shape, and I was seeing a lot of growth. AND I was finally able to stop with the hair pulling (trichotillomania) I have struggled with most of my life, so I was really seeing more length and fullness than usual. Before the stylist hacked off probably close to a year's worth of hair growth, I told her all of the following:
-"I only want a trim."
-"I want you to trim a quarter of an inch"
-"I am trying to grow my hair out so I just need you to trim the ends"
-"I don't want you to reshape it, just trim the ends"
-"The last hair stylist I went to cut off several inches which was not what I wanted, I just want a 1/4 of an inch trim"
She didn't even come close to listening. She even gave me this horrible inverted triangle shape and cut it OVER my ears with weird layers in the back. It was devastating. The saddest part is, I wasn't even going to go to the salon that day because I had a strong feeling it was not going to go over well. The only positive from all of this was that I learned a valuable lesson: if you want it done right, do it yourself. And believe in yourself.
So yea, I trim it myself from now on. Never going to a hair stylist again.
The exact same thing happened to me :( I was looking to get my relaxed ends cut off because I could see significant new growth at the roots and was ready to go natural. She literally left me with less than an inch of hair, I was so upset! It was like my unwilling big chop lol
You can still go to the hair salon but do your own trim. I’ve been there so many times, I watch them like a hawk when they start and they have to show me what they are about to snip BEFORE THEY do so. I do trim my own ends most times and that of my now adult daughters.

Sis I’ve been in tears for days bc a person I tried to trust cut my shoulder length 3c Afro into a dumdum. Never EVER EVER AGAIN will anyone “trim” my hair. I only went to this friend because my cousin who regularly does my hair is a complete flake, fluctuates prices, and cancels my appointment at least twice every single time we schedule. I asked for a trim, this girl cut four inches OF AFRO! She insisted she could do it curly even though I repeatedly told her that I always get it blow dried beforehand. Horrible, horrible experience. I've been thinking about it for such a long time and today I decided to trim my hair before locing it because I want my hair to keep being healthy. I also have had terrible experiences with asking people to trim my hair and end up getting a hair cut instead. I was actually shocked to see my hair wasn't as damaged as I expected but I'm very excited to start this loc journey on a high note 😃💘

Omg I feel your anger girl. I recently went natural and my hair has really grown. I went and got a trim at the beginning of the year and she cut 3 inches off in the back. My head is boiling now thinking about it again. NEVER again will I be going to a stylist for anything because they really do get scissor happy 😒

I'm in a relaxer growth journey and at this point experiencing uneven hair growth your tips were great I tried to doctor the shorter side it grew better but not the same as the other side I wanted to try and retain as much length but it looks like it would be best to do a cut to even out the longest pieces and start fresh even tho cutting would look like my hair has not progressed since previous cut 🤦♀️💇♀️
I trimmed my ends by myself but they’re really uneven now, and if I cut it to be even my hairs gonna be way too short 😩
Great video!! Like you….I do not trust anyone to “trim” my strands. I can tell by the feel that my ends need to be trimmed and I’ve been stressing over it. I don’t want to blow dry for the trim and then re-wet/wash, condition’ detangle, apply leave-in and styling cream/gel just to get it back into my wash-n-go. It takes me all day anyway. If I trim and then starting over for the wash-n-go it would be a marathon!! Well……Wish me luck because I’m determined to trim these ends MYSELF!!! 😅

It’s scarier having a year or more of care and diligence hacked off by someone else “by accident” or because “they weren’t sure what you wanted” or a *shudders* scissor-happy person. I’ve never done it before either but I’ve had enough horrible experiences that I would rather risk it and take control into my own hands. At least I KNOW not to cut 5 inches of hair. I know what I want cut. I have the control. Only allow someone you absolutely trust with something you hold dear.

I have been through the cut instead of a trim incident that is why I talk with my stylest before getting my hair done. If they aren't talking right I skip the trim. I have even left stylists over this issue.

she cut my hair short , and when she was only Supposed to trim my ends. i was very mad and it took a long time to grow back.

I love this trimming method. I want and NEED to do it soon but I'm not sure if my bleached hair can handle heat right now. It won't trim right if I don't blow dry first right?
Okay well what you can do to trim is roller set your hair with big rollers. Thats going to stretch your hair without any heat then apply a heat protectant then proceed with a blow dryer afterwards. On medium Heat. It might take a littile longer but youll get those dead ends off.

the back of my head...split ends, I'll trim it and it flourishes....the front and middle? endless breakage and split ends no matter how much I trim😧

Anyone else struggling with this should look up how to care for crown breakage. It's a common problem that can be handled! You just have to treat that are with more attention than the rest of your hair :)

Thank you my health is bad and my hair falls out so when I was doing well with my hair I went somewhere they cut so much I lost basically all the hair I grew out at the time which was past my shoulders now it’s to my neck still pretty but not what I wanted

Yes! This happened to me in January after I took my time to grow my hair! This woman pretended to hear me and agree with what I wanted and I legit ended up getting a weird haircut… I did not at all ask for her to become some sort of perfectionist. I’m asking you to do 1 small job and now you want my money after leaving me feeling regretful and hopeless *sigh* growing it back now…

How do you know you’re cutting the same length . My hair goes down to my hips I want to trim in sections too but what if it’s not all even
If your hair is without layers it is so easy to trim... Part your hair down the middle, put it in two low ponytails, pull hair to the front and cut straight across. It is so easy! It is only difficult if house have layers throughout but you can still develop an easy technique for layers.

This video was great! I just subscribed. Question: I'm trying to grow out my hair. I don't think my ends are split because I've been amateur trimming to the best of my ability. But, my ends are also not the same length. The very ends look thinner because only a portion of my hair is that long. What is the right thing to do in this case? I usually wear protective styles. I’m going to wash my hair on Thursday. Today is Monday 4-5-2022 and than trim my hair. I had the same experience of my hair in 2020. I went to get my hair trim at an Solon. I said trim to the hairdressers and got a cut. My face was beat red. I was fuming 😡. I ask her why did you cut my hair when I said a trim? She gave me some bull story like she said to me, my hair needed a lot of trimming. That’s was fine but why didn’t you tell me that before you cut my hair. She just stood there looking stupid. I told her that I’m only paying for a trim and not a cut and you will never see me face again and then I walk out. So now, either I cut my hair or my husband will trim it for me.

Mine was shoulder length and had someone cut mine completely lopsided. Then I had to go to another stylist and get it fixed so they had to cut even more.😕
Yes, I was annoyed I lost length but I was waayy more annoyed I had to go to two separate stylists and pay in the same month. 😤 I was so annoyed. I should have blasted them on Google/reviews etc, but I decided to write them a note on the side to let them know I was dissatisfied. They didn’t even respond. It’s a shame cause I would have continued to be a client had they not been so careless.

It's been exposed that all hair grows at a different rate therefore healthy hair may be getting trimmed unnecessarily. All hair is technically dead once it comes out the scalp.

I went for a trim. I said that I wanted to keep my length. He came at me with a razor and started literally hacking my hair off. I was devastated. Nine years of hair growth gone in two seconds. The razor caused split ends to travel up my strands. I ended up with another big chop and starting all over again.
