  • How to store fresh yam for as long as you wish.
This 'how to video' is for yam lovers just like me, who would like to eat yam all year round (meaning, throughout the year) without any worry that it would get spoilt. The best temperature to store raw yam is said to be between 12-16ºC, which is clearly lower than the average room temperature of 21ºC.
Like other vegetables, yam tuber is seasonal and perishable (that is, it is liable to decay or spoil or go bad quite quickly). Additionally, yam can be very expensive when it is not in season.
So, this video will solve a few problems:
    1 Saves you some money
2 Allows you to continue to eat yam all year round
3 Prevents your yam from going bad
4 Keeps your uncooked yam fresh forever
I Hope you find this video helpful.

      Exposure to the air/oxygen.

    • @maxinesaltking7188
      @maxinesaltking7188 5 лет назад +3

Even white potatoes do that, it's just exposure to oxygen. That's why you have to put yams/potatoes to sit in a bowl water as soon as you've cut and peeled them, to prevent the oxidisation (when they start to get that brownish/greyiah colour). Once you're done cutting and peeling, simply rinse them, drain the water and then use them however you want.

Thank you for this video but I would want to know the essence of pre freezing for 2hrs since it's going to be stored in the freezer. Thank you

Hi, this is to prevent the yam slices or cubes from sticking together. Thank you for watching 😃

I dont pre-freeze the yam, I freeze straightaway, and it comes apart easily to cook from frozen.
      Nice video.

Thanks Hereigns, I have never pre freezed too and it has always been good. I take it straight to the pot and after a few minutes of boiling everything falls apart on its own

I was going to ask too because I just put it straight into the freezer after straining water from the yam and have no issue whatsoever. I could try this though hope I don't forget it in the freezer sha😃😃

Gr8 idea. But i am curious. Why pre-freeze? Why not prepare and freeze straight away? What is the purpose of the pre-freeze stage?

Pre-freezing the yam cubes or slices prevents the yam from sticking together. It can be very difficult to separate frozen yam, especially if your are cooking just some of the frozen yam. The yam is no more fresh once cooked. Thanks for watching.
