Which will you take? Right now I'm taking the R3, that's changed slightly since filming this video. The Sony a1 and R3 are a toss up for me depending on the situation.
I have been invested in Nikon since 2016 with 5 bodies ( Z9, D850, D500, D800, D7200) and a lot of glass including the trinity, a 600mm f/4, some other telephotos and a bunch of fast primes. I pre-ordered the Z9 on the day of announcement and it came a couple of weeks ago. The Z9 is an amazing camera with the most important features to me being the AF system, ibis, and ability to use my AF-S f-mount glass. It is the right decision for me.

I used a Z6ii a few weeks ago for the first time after shooting on a Nikon DSLR for several years and it blows my mind. I don’t doubt that the Z9 is even more mind blowing and I can’t wait to get my hands on one.
Hi Jared, I will never consider changing brand because the big three are constantly changing places in the battle to be the best, so my advice is, just switch from a DSLR system to mirrorless system, and then choose the mirrorless brand there at that point appeals to you the most, it's that simple! Cheers Jess
I am a former longtime Canon and Nikon pro user (40 years using both brands) . But I will stay with my Sony A1, A7SIII, A7RIV and my host of E-mount lenses from Sony, Sigma and Tamron, thank you. My Sonys fulfill all my professional and personal needs. Not switching back to Nikon or Canon. But I do wish them well with their Z9 and R3 as true competition keeps them all innovating. Cheers and thanks Jared. Give a shout out to Brandon and all the folks at Allen's for me ,ok. Still my fav dealer.
Don't own a Z9 or any mirrorless, but I work with photographers who use all 3 of the cameras you compared. What I hear consistently is that the Z9 is the only one that works as well with native and non-native lens. I know a Z9 user who owns both the native 70-200 and the 5-year-old Tamron 70-200 G2 and he can't tell the difference. The A1 and the R3 users have had inconsistent results with non-native lenes. That's a really big deal for those of us who have invested a lot in their lens collection. I am an 850 user; I don't think either of these cameras produce better image quality than my 850; however, their autofocus capability is almost unreal. With the Z9 you are getting the best of the 850 and the D5.
I actually went with the alpha 1 for a multitude of reasons but to keep it simple, I'm already on the Sony platform and have a decent handful of lenses. I will say if I were starting based off of one of these three though that I would still choose the alpha 1 over the R3 for the higher resolution. It helps to have the larger image size when I need to do a crop in on live action and wildlife shots. However, they are all outstanding performers and the real differences are so minute that I don't think anyone would go wrong with any of these systems!
I’ll be getting this year a Sony a7iv and the Nikon Z9. I shoot live music photography and videography. My Nikon images usually beat out the Sonys, Canon , Panasonic we all have for Video. So now Nikon has upped its game its time for me to get a mirrorless Nikon .
Most people buying at this price point are not going to be all that sensitive to a thousand dollar difference in body price. If someone is sensitive to price then E mount has tons of excellent third party glass such as Sigma's 14-24/2.8 and 24-70/2.8, not available to Z or R mount buyers. Also great options like the 85/1.4 DG DN which is also only available on E.
@@AtaBoraBasar If you're going to consider price the total cost is what matters, not the cost of just one part. It's less of an issue at the top end of the market but lower down the market the total cost of buy in is a really big thing. A7iv+Tamron trinity is cheaper than any comparable kit from Canon or Nikon by a really big margin.
Given that Nikon now has the ability to AUTO focus MANUAL lenses with the Techart adapter is pretty insane for those of us with a lot of old Nikon manual lenses or really any manual lens from Leica or Canon. To me, the sensor distance for Nikon letting you adapt any lens greatly expands why it's a great system.
Nikon users can have the best of both worlds: Using a D850 with optical viewfinder which is still preferred for nature and wildlife photography as it don't need any power consumption or a super modern mirrorless Z 9 for great video or action work. Both systems don't exclude each other and can be used easily in parallel.
@@ScottSaldingerMktgMaster just because.. its overkill, but I want it. The last camera I used professionally was the canon 5d mark 2 when it 1st came out. I want to get back into it.
Z9 here, I'm set for F mount glass and I have seen a couple reviews that stated the auto focus speed differences for adapted f-mount glass was negligible or actually improved even with TC's added. I've been a Nikon shooter from the start shooting D500, D810, D850 and soon to be adding a Z9.
I've seen a video about that too. The Z9 is just as fast as the D6. Matt Granger maybe? Ricci? Seen so many videos, don't know. I could still be the Sony is faster overal, because they have more glass with the newest AF motors. Nikon has the 400 TC now with the newest motor. Would love to see a 70-200 with new motors and about 300 grams less weight like the Sony g2.
Yes. I hav tried auto focus with the adapter mounted a F mount 50mm 1.4 G lense. The auto focus did not slow down as mentioned in this video. Not much difference with a DSLR.
That's great to hear. Could I also ask you about sharpness of your f mount lenses. For example I've seen a 70-200 z lens seems sharper than an f mount lens. How is the sharpness of your f mount lenses on your z9. Sharper or pretty much the same.
I started with Canon platform 25 yrs ago then got into Nikon platform when Nikon D3 was released. Sold all Canon 1D series and all in with Nikon. Then got a D4 then noticed fir the last 8 yrs Nikon system was behind abs worried they might not lasted as a company. Last year i was ready for a new camera and wanted a good hybrid system for still and video. Nikon didn’t have anything comparable to Canon and Sony. Purchased Canon R3 last November and while i liked it the 24 megapixel was too low for cropping on some usage. What i liked was that the body was really light for the form factor and eye auto focus but i had a few issue calibrating with my eye. But when Z9 was announced and it fits my needs. So I sold the R3, RF 24/200/2.8 and 70/200/2.8 IS. My only complaint with Z9 was that it is heavy. Just a little lighter than my old D4 but not by much. Wished it would be a lot lighter especially when you pair it with pro lenses like 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 S lenses. Any way, I’m happy with my decision since i already have a few Nikon lenses but now I’m slowly replacing F mount lenses with S mount. It’s sure is a very expensive hobby for sure. Yes it’s probably more than my needs but life is too short so why not.
Hi Jared - Like you said, it really doesn’t matter wich camera you use. But I’ll stick with Nikon - because of the quality of the files. I find the nikon files so beautiful and sexy - So I can easily live with the lesser focus tracking and 20 frames a second. That is not a dealbreaker for me 👍🏼
I have watched different RUclipsrs and testers get different results as far as autofocus goes when testing these cameras. Some say the Z9 is the best and some say the R3 is the best. I think it comes down to the way you set it up. Mark Smith and Jared Polin are the only ones that I have seen that rank the Z9 as the worst of the 3. All are good but don’t just assume that the Nikon is the worst because of a couple of reviews when there are others saying the opposite.
Being a Nikon user since 1987, Nikon is all I know. And should I buy one of these, the Z9 would be my natural choice. I have not a lot of lenses for Nikon, but as mentioned, I've known and followed Nikon for around 35 years, so that brand I would stick to .
I love my Sony A1 with the 35-150. I also have the 150-600 and a couple others. Sony a1 i think will be the top camera for a while still. I think it is so advanced that there's no need to upgrade. If your pictures are not turning out with either camera it's the photographers error. I think the Sony is a little power house and if you need that extra grip you can put it on. You don't have to carry that extra weight especially when your hiking taking pics of wildlife and you have one of those huge lenses to capture your subjects. And don't forget Sony makes sensors for most of these cameras. As for working in the dark. It's called muscle memory. It's not hard to memorize the buttons. Plus all the third-party lenses. I just think people like to jump on the next new not necessarily the best thing.
I think it is worth mentioning that the A1 mshutter can sync up to 1/400 in FF and 1/500 in crop mode. That is likely the most advanced mech shutter ever built a very valuable feature and probably a good chunk of the added cost of the A1. I often use non HSS strobes and it can be very useful to sync faster for more control over ambient light or freezing action in hybrid lighting conditions.
I jumped from Nikon to Sony during the mirrorless transition too. I have some fantastic Sigma and Tamron glass as well. So, I am on Sony's bandwagon for that reason. Gotta say though, I'm kinda proud of Nikon. It's like someone said "Get your shit together" and they did.
Same here. Nikon to Sony. Am happy but am proud of Nikon for how fast they have gotten their shit together. Someone seems to have hit the panic button and everyone responded well.
I went from Canon to Sony but like you I love the fact the big three all make great cameras. Nikon still needs to improve AF in lower end mirrorless but I am sure than is coming very soon.
R1 entry into the market will be the REAL GANGSTER move!!.......with Quad Pixel AF tech......45-50MP (atleast) STACKED sensor .....30 fps burst mode (maybe even 40fps who knows!)......8K recording.....No Overheating ...NO record limit and single PRO body with integrated Vertical Grip that have big battery!
The Z9 for me because of the lenses I have. But also for the focus-stacking ability, wich is awesome for both landscape- and macro photography, not to speak of foodphotography. Not sure if Canon has that or not, but to my knowledge, Sony does not have it. And then there is the raw files! Z9, no doubt.
I've got a 5DSR with a 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 with which I am very happy. However, I think the Nikon would be the most appealing to me out of these three - because of the Resolution, Card Slots, low Iso 64, and having a HDMI Type A is also nice.
All the way Z 9. The Nikon package gets most things right where it really counts. You didn't mention the Nikon dual stream technology which makes the viewfinder stutter-free and not dropping in resolution like the Sony.
Don’t agree. The 30fps compress raw is really useful for fast action. The EVF is amazing. And noticeably better focusing than Nikon. Plus you have the option to detach the grip and shoot light. And yeah the Sony drops resolution, but it has a higher resolution to start with. I sold all my Nikon gear.
Well they all perform similar in action scenes, the dual stream only makes up for the lack of refresh rate which the sony is better. if you was nit picky you could say the nikon does not have enough resolution which could be really important for manual focusing and macro work ,and the canon has eye af control but i have spoken to a few users of the r3 and in general not so keen on it.
I'm going with none of the above because they're all too expensive for me. 😜 Given the option though I'd choose the a1 simply because I have so much glass invested in the Sony system. At this point, which to choose depends on which system you've spent money on lenses.
I'm going with Sony A1 since i am a sony user and have E-mount lenses. I do like the flexibility of being able to take off the battery extended mount and being able to use SD cards. Other than that, 50 mp and 20 fps burst shooting is enough for me. Sony A1!
For me Z9. I have been using Sony since about late 2018 and after a shoot where the RII and RIII were not cutting it for me I bought a Z6II and D850 (been shooting Nikon since 2016) and ended up loving that combo. Traded my entire Fuji system in for a Z9 and I don't have any regrets with that decision. I have been loving the Z stuff since and even started reinvesting into F mount and got a 500PF for the Z9 after not enjoying the 200-500 on that camera.
@@JohnHilario23 I believe I bought it used at B&H. Did a corporate event where the RII was just not responsive enough for what I needed it for and just dropped that camera like a bag of hot potatoes and ended up going back to my combo of a Nikon D4 and D810 for the work, which honestly did that stuff just fine. RII at least for me is a poorly aging camera since you basically have to jury rig that combo to get it to change AF points and using the rear and front command dials for that is the most counter intuitive way to do it during a fast paced event.
How would you say your f-mount lenses are doing on the Z9? I have so many f-mount lenses but i'm worried they won't adapt well to the Z9? i have tamron's G2 trinity
@@CaseyCJL Personally I'd only really adapt unique lenses like the 105 1.4, 58 1.4 and other exotics. Stuff like the 50 and 85 1.8's I would just buy the native versions of, same with the holy trinity zooms since the S versions out class them. They will work on the Z9 yes, but I really don't think you're maximizing the camera with the older F mount stuff. I remember using the 70-200FL on my Z6II thinking I was never going to get the S version and still ended up getting the S version like a month later. The new glass is worth the investment. Just read you have the Tamron G2 trinity...slowly but surely get the S versions and to even adapt most of them I think you have to update the firmware on the lens itself. I got rid of most of my Tamron stuff when I got the Z6II to be honest, not sure how the AF is going to react on that combo either.
@@marcusbeasley3212 Thanks for the reply. When you said move to S versions, did you mean to say the Z mount versions? i think Z is what it's called on Nikon mirrorless right? not sure what S version is?
Jared, Lossless compression is better in my opinion, because a compressed raw file and a non-compressed raw file contain the same information. Except the compressed raw file is smaller and that is better because it takes up less space
@Jared, "lossless" just uses the fact that two neighboring pixels are usually so similar, that it saves space to express their difference as a small delta, rather than full e.g. 14 bit values. If 3 bits are enough to express the delta, then only 3 bits will be used. Also with regards to "lossy" RAW compression, there are differences. Nikon e.g. just reduces the bit depth of pixel values where the excess bits would drown in noise anyway. So this is artifact free. Sony is "lossy" more aggressively, they reduce bit depth across contrast edges, where Sony assumes that the eye is distracted by the contrast so much, that it doesn't sense bit depth nuances. Unfortunately, if the contrast gets really big (e.g. stars in night sky, or night city scenes), then artifacts do occur across contrast edges.
@@tubularificationed Thanks, you have a much better understanding of this subject than I do. As an engineer who works in the storage industry, I see compression as a big plus if it is done correctly. 1) it saves on space 2) it saves power and thus gives a longer battery life.
As a Sony shooter I would love the rear screen from the Nikon. You did not mention flash sync speed which is a big check mark for Sony. I do wish I could set the photos per seconds. Stacked sensors are great for weddings I just wish I had more control over the speed
Thought i had to switch away from nikon, also because i make alot of video stuff But i think the z9 changed it for me. But im waiting for the huge video update.
I saw a comparison, that the F mount glass actually focuses faster with the Z9 than a D850. So don't get rid of F mount lenses when upgrading to a Z9 👍

Canon EOS R3 no doubt. Always used Canon and will always use Canon. Never used Nikon or sony. The R3 looks sooo clean and love the look of it. Would love to get the R3.

I bought my first Nikon in 1979, an FE, and it still works, although I don't shoot film anymore since the late nineties. I've never had a reliability issue with any of the 10 or more Nikon cameras (and the many Nikkor lenses) I have owned. Not once. So, even if the Z9 is not what I really need, I definitely would opt for the Z system the day I go mirrorless. But as the 'old' cameras don't break down, that won't be any day soon...
I'm reposting my comment here that I made on a similar and very recent review because my husband and I have been using Nikon, Canon, and Sony bodies extensively. My husband and I both shoot Weddings together- I went from Canons into Sony ,and now a mix of both brands for me with the Canon R5. My husband has been a die hard Nikon loyalist who for years shot by the "F8 and be there " motto- when he might want a shallow DOF with lots of bokeh, he would by necessity have me do those shots because his bodies would never give us enough material to sort through with the eyes in critical focus, while my Sonys and the R5 would do it with ease- our biggest problem with the Sony bodies and the R5 was sorting thru thousands of shots in perfect focus with perhaps 1 or 2 % soft while we would sort thru hundreds of Nikon shots with approx a 10-15% AF soft or out of focus rate. The work flow difference was dramatic. Now that he's got the Z9 ,we see a dramatic increase in AF keepers and numbers of total shots, yet we both agree that the Z9 is still a bit behind the Sony A,9 ii ,( we don't have a A1 yet) and Canon R5 ( and the R5 is about 1800 dollar's less while using a sensor that isn't BSI) It's clearly Nikons best AF body, but now we're also experiencing the same HSS problems that we've been reading about on one forum by multiple users and we're hoping for a fix or we'll be forced to sell it. All in all, even he admits that stubborn brand loyalty may have really hurt us and he missed out on several years of the other brands advantages
Just my 2 cents on adapted lenses with the z9: Z9 with my 500mm PF works like a charm, although its adapted. the other Z cameras struggled to drive the autofocus fast enough, but that is not the case with the Z9. I havent really tried a lot of other/older nikon glass though, maybe older lenses are still slower when adapted. On the other hand, at least here in Germany you will have a hard time to try to buy either the z9 or the R3 right now. Basically neither of them is available in stores. The A1 is at least "purchaseable" aka in stock.
I'd love to play around with the Nikon Z9 sometime. I don't think I'll be purchasing one myself anytime in the near future nor would it be my next choice of camera because of the size.
Could you maybe do a video on the best non full frame flagships? I know it’s not particularly your thing but a comparison between the new gh6, om-1, x-t4 etc would be interesting I’m sure.
Thank you Jared for this great Video! I‘ve been with Nikon since i was 15 and started with the D750. I‘m now shooting on the Z6 II and the Z9 is a dream for one day in the future.
Switched to Sony a few years ago with the great A7iii migration a lot of users did. I have almost moved to the R5 a couple of times, the A1 is just a bit too expensive for me to justify however the reason I stood and stick don’t, Is that E mount and the incredible lens selection. Glass is so vital, so I stick with the system that offers me the most. Canon, open up that RF mount, do the right thing. You’re losing customers that might but 3rd party today, but go L mount in the future. I’ve started with samyangs and Tamron, upgraded most to Sigma Art and soon, fingers crossed if business goes well there will be my first GM in the line up this year.
Hi Jarod, have you had chance to test the Z9 with the latest version of the firmware? Aparently it has further enhanced the fliker free system and has improved again the AF.
I started with D750. I'm not a pro. I have decided to wait for Sony, Cannon & Nikon to correct their mistakes before I jump in the realm of mirrorless cameras. They really need a lot of things before I'm ready to invest $10,000. Their fancy names and bodies are not working for me. I need 8k baby with 120fps raw uncompressed to start with. ❤️ Let's see when 😬
Knowing all three are excellent... Which one have the best picture quality? Not about the amount of pixels but the overall rendition of the images. I tend to think about Nikon, then Canon and then Sony. For me Nikon since years ago have the upper hand in image quality, near perfect in dynamic range, definition, colors, contrast, etc, Canon have its colors and a punchy less digital quality, and Sony is ok, but need more post processing work to get an appealing image
All of these cameras can produce spectacular technical image quality . Some may be nominally better than others but I feel we may be bumping up against the law of diminishing returns . If I were in the market for a camera of this calibre, I think I would go with the Sony because of its removable grip. The Canon and Nikon are just too bulky for my day to day needs.
Jared take a look at the ISO setting on how it can be expanded on the Canon R3 if you get into the ISO setting's menu it will go all the way down to ISO 50 is what it says but just think about that it will go lower than both the Nikon and the Sony .
I'm not a Pro so let's get that out of the way, I have a few (5) F mount lenses so I'm staying with Nikon. My current body is an older D700 I would never sell so my next purchase would most likely be a Z body and FTZ adapter. Will I buy a Z9, sure would be nice but I would need to sell something to justify that. Either way I see a Z7II or Z9 in my future.
Nikon all the way. Why would I pay $1400 more for the Sony Camera and grip. It seems that the Nikon beats Sony in every way, except that it a little bit behind the Sony in af.
I'm glad that it doesn't matter what system you use there is a camera for everyone now and all of them are good and as time goes on it's only going to get better.
The difference is that you get 2/3 stop more exposure with 64 ISO. ISO itself has little effect on noise. What has the effect is that the ISO setting determines which exposure you meter thinks is 'correct', so you get more exposure if you use a lower ISO. By and large ISO isn't 'subjective', most camera manufacturers follow the ISO standards closely, it's just that many people are misinformed about what ISO actually is.
Great and objective comparison. But you got it wrong with the FTZ-Adapter on the Nikon. There is no slow down or speed decrease with F-Mount lenses on the Z 9.
Not all F-mount lenses are slower on the Z9. The 500PF is actually faster on the Z9. About .7 seconds on DSLRs and about .5 seconds on the Z9. These speeds indicate the time to rack focus from MFD to Infinity and back again.
Went from Nikon to Sony and never looked back. Currently use a A7Riii as I feel it's the best balance in the range for what I use it for. Given the chance an A1 would be the next progression for my photography but just a little steep in cost but it's the flagship so accept that. Sooner spend more money on glass. I get asked a lot about Sony and always say if you have the fundamentals of taking images any of these mirrorless cameras are amazing. It's the same in anything, a golf club is a golf club cheap or expensive, it only does what it does by the skill of the person holding it!
Shooting Nikon for 40 years, now D850 with Nikon glasses, I think I’m stuck with Nikon mirrorless, I haven’t bought one yet, seems D850 rules what I do mostly landscape & nature, not much wildlife.
Based on this videos information, if I were doing wildlife, landscape, product or other various styles predominantly I'd go with the Sony. For weddings, senior portraits, family portraits, street photography candids, concerts and others I'd say Canon. Depending on the glass available, sport photographer that often deals with flickering lights, no brainer, the Canon.

The Viltrox is plenty sharp and can hold its own and the autofocus work just as good. But the main reason I prefer the Viltrox is because of the more compact size.
@@Photomeike It's 1cm shorter and 80g lighter. In exchange you get more CA, worse IQ (especially at larger apertures), and no weather sealing. That doesn't seem like a great trade-off to me. Also, if compact size and light weight are you think it seems Sony would be a better fit overall.

Cant wait till its cheaper to buy it second hand. Very happy with my D850 right now
The Nikon EVF is build around user experience while the Sony one is build to be impressive in a spec sheet
I'm sticking with Nikon. I was manual tracking subjects last month so I'm cool with slightly less sticky AF. Seems to win in most other categories.
Nikon Z9 is the best choice for those looking for price and performance.
The best is probably the one you already have 10 lenses for. All three are great but also eye-watering expensive...
@@IanHobday You are absolutely right about the lens, but I would like to say that I wrote a comment in accordance with the subject of this video.
How about performance? Unlimited budget and performance
Sorry but why does power consumption matter? i'm still learning. I don't understand why the D850 vf would be preferred over mirrorless vf
Had my Z9 since late December. It's a beast and handles everything I need.
Would you recommend it?

Z9 here, I'm set for F mount glass and I have seen a couple reviews that stated the auto focus speed differences for adapted f-mount glass was negligible or actually improved even with TC's added. I've been a Nikon shooter from the start shooting D500, D810, D850 and soon to be adding a Z9.
Nice!
Indeed, Steve Perry tested that to great satisfaction.
R3 for me, haven’t looked back since.
Z9. And the Z mount glasses are stellar. Even the adapted f mount glasses perform much better on it
thats good to hear. i have all f mount and was wary of how the f mount glass would perform on z camera.
Love to see all the love for Nikon in the comments
45-50 at least...
Video features of z9 are pretty great too
All the way Z 9. The Nikon package gets most things right where it really counts. You didn't mention the Nikon dual stream technology which makes the viewfinder stutter-free and not dropping in resolution like the Sony.
He never mentions the amazing things on the Z9. And yes it was a D3 moment. Probably even more so.
@@danieIlondon .... I shoot college football and professional surfing and I don't know any photographer that shoots RAW, only jpegs.
Wow, where’d you get that R2?
Your absolutely correct lossless compressed raw is just as good as uncompressed raw.
While saving space, it also takes less time to write to the memory card increasing buffer, so it's a win-win situation
Jared has never seemed to understand the word "lossless".
1) it saves on space
2) it saves power and thus gives a longer battery life.
As a Sony shooter I would love the rear screen from the Nikon. You did not mention flash sync speed which is a big check mark for Sony. I do wish I could set the photos per seconds. Stacked sensors are great for weddings I just wish I had more control over the speed
Thought i had to switch away from nikon, also because i make alot of video stuff
But i think the z9 changed it for me. But im waiting for the huge video update.
Nikon Z9 for the layout of the buttons (and backlit), overall feel and love the results with the Z glass.
I still think the A1 wins out. I wish you would of mentioned low light or in the dark focus.
I saw a comparison, that the F mount glass actually focuses faster with the Z9 than a D850. So don't get rid of F mount lenses when upgrading to a Z9 👍
Wow faster than my 8x20 deardorff, most of your viewer don’t even know what I’m talking about. But my digital cameras are paper weights to these. And for pros this is where you are. I'm going with the R3 because I like the feel, weight, looks and functionality for what I do. Great video comparison too! THANKS!

But as the 'old'
cameras don't break down, that won't be any day soon...
Now that he's got the Z9 ,we see a dramatic increase in AF keepers and numbers of total shots, yet we both agree that the Z9 is still a bit behind the Sony A,9 ii ,( we don't have a A1 yet) and Canon R5 ( and the R5 is about 1800 dollar's less while using a sensor that isn't BSI)
It's clearly Nikons best AF body, but now we're also experiencing the same HSS problems that we've been reading about on one forum by multiple users and we're hoping for a fix or we'll be forced to sell it.
All in all, even he admits that stubborn brand loyalty may have really hurt us and he missed out on several years of the other brands advantages
Just my 2 cents on adapted lenses with the z9:
Z9 with my 500mm PF works like a charm, although its adapted.
the other Z cameras struggled to drive the autofocus fast enough, but that is not the case with the Z9.
I have always shot Nikon. I have a Z7ii currently, but I cant wait to get my hands on a Z9
You gave Check Marks mostly to Z9 (7), and Toss Up both A1 (3) and R3 (3). Right?
Preferring uncompressed raw over lossless compressed is kind of stupid.
Gotta agree with you there. Literally 0.1% difference
Thanks Jared. I’ve been shooting Nikon since my FM film body. I have a Z9 on order, my glass will love it!
I received my Z9 3 weeks ago. 🙌 I’m ecstatic
Thanks Jared. Nice breakdown
Let's see when 😬
You are not bias. Nice real review and compare.
I thought those were external grips 😮 to me its very ugly lol (sony user here)
Z9
Jared take a look at the ISO setting on how it can be expanded on the Canon R3 if you get into the ISO setting's menu it will go all the way down to ISO 50 is what it says but just think about that it will go lower than both the Nikon and the Sony .
Z9 all the way
I'm not a Pro so let's get that out of the way, I have a few (5) F mount lenses so I'm staying with Nikon. My current body is an older D700 I would never sell so my next purchase would most likely be a Z body and FTZ adapter. Will I buy a Z9, sure would be nice but I would need to sell something to justify that. Either way I see a Z7II or Z9 in my future.
Récent lens like the 500pf focus faster with the Z9….
Nikon all the way. Why would I pay $1400 more for the Sony Camera and grip. It seems that the Nikon beats Sony in every way, except that it a little bit behind the Sony in af.
Autofocus, weight, size, 8mage quality, mechanical shutter, shutter speed, lens selection, processing speed...all better in the A1
Since i invested in Canon glass for years my choice is the R3. Your review of these 3 "flaships" is great!!!

I'm glad that it doesn't matter what system you use there is a camera for everyone now and all of them are good and as time goes on it's only going to get better.
You can pretty well connect Sony e-mount glass with the Megadap adapter to Nikon Z. Works like a charme!
A1 is obviously the best. Theyre all great though.
Would have been curious to see the actual differences in the base ISOs 64/100. I always thought ISO was subjective to the manufacturers a little.
Agreed and also a high ISO comparison for wildlife/action shooters.
Dpreview has great comparison pics for that.
Are you SERIOUS !! Difference is like Night and day Bro
The dynamic range is far superior. There's dozens of graphs showing DR comparisons. Better DR and less noise induced into a file while editing.
How is the sharpness of the f mount lenses on the z9. I've seen the z lenses seem sharper than f mount lenses of the same length
Not all F-mount lenses are slower on the Z9. The 500PF is actually faster on the Z9. About .7 seconds on DSLRs and about .5 seconds on the Z9. These speeds indicate the time to rack focus from MFD to Infinity and back again.
How do you think Tamron's G2 trinity would fair on the Z9? i'd love to get the Z9 but don't want to get new glass. Thanks
So as of now, what is the best wildlife camera which also gives amazing landscape results too?
Went from Nikon to Sony and never looked back. Currently use a A7Riii as I feel it's the best balance in the range for what I use it for. Given the chance an A1 would be the next progression for my photography but just a little steep in cost but it's the flagship so accept that. Sooner spend more money on glass. I get asked a lot about Sony and always say if you have the fundamentals of taking images any of these mirrorless cameras are amazing. It's the same in anything, a golf club is a golf club cheap or expensive, it only does what it does by the skill of the person holding it!
Does Viltrox and Samyang/Rokinon not consider a 3rd party lenses for Canon RF?
Shooting Nikon for 40 years, now D850 with Nikon glasses, I think I’m stuck with Nikon mirrorless, I haven’t bought one yet, seems D850 rules what I do mostly landscape & nature, not much wildlife.
Based on this videos information, if I were doing wildlife, landscape, product or other various styles predominantly I'd go with the Sony. For weddings, senior portraits, family portraits, street photography candids, concerts and others I'd say Canon. Depending on the glass available, sport photographer that often deals with flickering lights, no brainer, the Canon.
Nikon is the best
Lived with the Nikon Z system this long and am loving the Z9, so yeah, Nikon.
When comparing total price you did not add in the additional cost of the battery grip on the Sony
Because most people won't buy the vertical grip.
Same for the system weight.

Viltrox makes Z mount lenses. Saying Nikon has NO 3rd party support is incorrect.
Come on... No one is going to buy Viltrox lenses for a Z9. Viltrox has their place in the market but it's really close to the bottom.
The Viltrox glass is real! Superb optics.

@@Photomeike It's 1cm shorter and 80g lighter. In exchange you get more CA, worse IQ (especially at larger apertures), and no weather sealing. That doesn't seem like a great trade-off to me.

So great job as always - but all things being equal especially in your summation -- my buddy consistently shoots at higher iso's in very low light with better focus and no noise than the same shots with my R5 -- would love to see you do the comparison for low light shooters
A1, because I trust Sony's support and quality the most.
