We stayed loyal knowing they were falling behind in terms of their technology. When I tell you this is like being loyal to a team that falls short every year and comes back to win a championship. Im proud of you Nikon and I can’t wait to see what’s to come!
So glad I stayed with Nikon. Had an A1 in the cart a few months ago. Finally the autofocus comes around and will always take the colors and RAW files of Nikon over Sony and Canon.
Those who are saying that the af is not as good as sony a1 or canon r3, they must remember that this is Preproduction Z9 camera. @@-OzSteve Yes. Cameras and gear have come a long way since I was learning on a Canon A-1 in the early 80's. Photography is much easier now. Remember when you had to focus manually?
I'm a Canon shooter but still love watching all of your reviews. Nice to see you happy about the Z9. I'm happy for my Nikon shooter friends who have been patiently waiting for this camera. Sounds like they won't be disappointed.
Jared, first of all LOSSLESS compression preserves every single bit and pixel so there is absolutely no loss of quality. When it decompresses later you have bit by bit the exact same 100% quality RAW file. Second, the files will use less space and transfer quicker to your computer. And, your computer CPU can decompress those files instantly. That is not going to add any delays.
I grew up on Nikon, and have stuck it out with them because I honestly love the company and love to use them. I was fully aware that Sony and Canon were going above and beyond anything Nikon was putting out in terms of mirrorless, but decided to stick it out because i had a feeling they were going to pull it back. Great video as always man, and happy to see Nikon is back in the game....
where exactly have they been? lmao they sell more cameras then Sony do, check the full stats not just mirrorless. they have the best DSLRs on the planet hands down. this whole nikon sucks thing is so fake.
@@mikeodowd100 for you maybe. but as a business no they have been killing it, the only problem nikon has is they are making cameras that last too long and are too good.
@@buranagel7827 bullshit, they do because of the F mount and because their dslrs are better then 95% of all the mirrorless cameras out there. the nikon d850 is a beast so are the d750 or d500
The price point for this technology will be awfully inviting and suggests that the next Z6 / Z7 upgrade should hit the mark for the right price. That's when Nikon will truly be back.
I'm on the Z6/Z7 price point but seeing that the Z9 can be your all around camera (sports, portraits, landscapea, events, video), I'm almost certain to jump to flagship level pricing. I actually went and pre-ordered, if I'm going to spend $6K with tax, it probably be for the Z9 not Canon or Sony.
As a Nikon user since 1965 I am going no where, no matter what the competition does. But of course I want my Nikon to be in the conversation. I am please that you have given a fair and balanced review of the Z9, because I wasn't confident that this would be the case after your stinging reviews of earlier products. Yes we are behind Sony and Canon and have been slow to adapt to the new world order of mirrorless cameras, but as a life long Nikon user I have always believed that they would get close enough to be in the game. Thanks again for your detailed and fair review.
This video almost brought a few tears in my eyes... I felt like my son finally finished college 😂 Nikon was my first love... Just kidding! My wife was my first love, but anyway... I liked it so much that I stiked with it, even when Canon and Sony offered me something much better. Now I can finally make an upgrade that is actually worth it.
Loved the photos at the end man and I agree when you said they took a big risk, props to Nikon because how I see it and given the ton of crap you’ve given them…..they were humble enough to go to the person that spoke the truth and even sent someone that took notes…..I’m canon shooter but man, my hat off to Nikon for sending you the Z9…..that demands respect.

They did that way back with the D3 and D700. The D700 was too close to the D3 in performance and it hampered sales of the D3 because it was cheaper, they haven't made that mistake since.
Former D850 owner here. Sold my D850 and all F lenses just two months ago, got the Z6ll, 24-70, 70-200, 50 and a bunch of other gear... Let me tell you right now, Z6ll is already a HUGE upgrade compared to the D850, however I still have to admit, the D850 image quality - or to be specific, its color depth and processing is just one of the best still to this day, not just over the Z6ll but over all cameras on the market. But yeah, Z6ll was a HUGE upgrade for me, if you switch, you will not regret a single thing. Trust me! I was defending my D850 for the longest time... But here I am! With a mirrorless camera in my hand! 😀
@@nogerboher5266 interesting that you talk about colour depth and rendition. I upgraded my whole nikon d7200, and d750 kit to a canon r6. Although the quality of life improvements such as autofocus and shooting speed are great, but I can't seem to pull the same colours I could from nikons dslrs. Mirrorless is great, but we still haven't mastered it in the same way we did with dslrs imo.
Nikon Z9 is a beast. Taking pictures at 120fps without even blinking. I am grateful I didn't change my system because I use Nikon since the first time I hold a camera
I'd say it's the sum of all the parts that make it a D3 moment. The dual stream for lag free EVF, the rugged pro body, advanced AF, the missing mechanical shutter of course, 8k30p for 2h, potential 8k60p and shooting at more than twice the speed of the D850 at the same resolution. A1 and R3 each have some of the features but are both missing some key features.
Well, let's hope that Nikon reads the comments section too. I know that the above video review is about their new flagship, the Z9, but the vast majority of people who will watch it are not going to buy the Z9. What we wanted to know, was whether or not Nikon could make a camera that could autofocus as well at the Canon or Sony. They appear to have done so. Now, Nikon absolutely has to get this autofocus ability into a Z6 iii and and Z7 iii , as fast as possible. I have been waiting to upgrade my aging Nikon DSLR to a mirrorless for a really long time. I looked seriously at the Z6, and then the Z6 ii, but I rejected them. I did not want to buy a Sony or a Canon, no matter how good they were. I decided to wait until Nikon's mirrorless were good enough. I hope that I don't have to wait much longer.
Jared Polin coming from a computer scientist here..... If the files are lossless compressed it means that no data was actually lost while performing the compression, when the software will uncompress ur file you will have all the actual data present in it. Lossless compression are intelligent ways of keeping the same amount of information in a smarter way so that it takes up less space giving less file size and faster transfer speeds... This is actually better than having uncompressed RAW
@Jared Polin it's called Information Theory.... A small example will be like this...... You know that computers store everything in 1s and 0s right? So what ever I am typing every character in this message has an 8 bit ascii code for it. So if I write a word having 10 letters then each letter takes up 8 bits of space totalling to about 8*10 = 80 bitsof data. But now if I see that the word I am storing has 4 letters same and I come up with a new code for each letter where this particular letter which repeats 4 times is represented by 1 bit and not 8 bits and the other letters are still 8 bits... Now the total size will be 6*8+ 4*1 bit = 52 bits so size got reduced from 80 to 52 without losing any data.... Now if you sort letters in the words with respect to their frequencies and use the smallest code possible for them and use longer codes only for the letters which occur once or twice then won't you be saving up lots of storage space without losing any of the actual data... All you will need is a decoder who has this letter to number mapping info and can reverse this process and retrieve all of it.... Which is something the original software of nikon / canon / sony will do and with time Photoshop and Lightroom as well....
I just got a z5 (upgraded from a Sony a7ii) and am extremely happy even with its faults (especially in comparison to the older Sony). And it’s good knowing they are still going all in and when it comes time to upgrade that some of the z9 tech should have trickled down by then.
The Z5 is an incredible budget full frame. I wish Nikon leaked the Z5 a few months sooner. I would've waited for the Z5 instead of buying the Canon RP in early 2020, then bought Nikon glass, and I'd also be a future Z9 buyer...
I was once a Canon man, F1 bodies and lots of fast FD glass, then Canon went and dumped the system and I dumped Canon for Nikon and the F mount, and have never lost the faith, I still cherish my F5 and D3 and will take delivery of a Z9 as soon as possible, having been happy with the Z7, I am just sorry that Nikon took so long to step up to the plate, but I remain loyal to them most of all for their committment down the years to the F mount owners, and I firmly believe that the day will come when Nikon will again be the benchmark all others will aspire to. Thank you Jared for an incredibly well researched, presented, totally honest and frank review
I hate marketing stunts like Digic X or Expeed Lightning as you stated. It's the 7th iteration and i like the transparency. I will read the specs and test it out and get my own bearings.
Having a flip out screen on my current camera has been so nice. I didn’t think I’d ever want it but I just shot with a body that didn’t have it and I was big time sad.
I'm sitting here with the Nikon z7ii like..."I love my camera and I shoot manual focus so much and soooo well that everyone else's issue with Nikon is a non issue." People can talk trash about Nikon but they have the easiest RAWs to work with for me.
Honestly for the price it shows that Nikon knows thru had a homerun but also with a price that would surely make it worth the wait. As a wedding photographer that have been using Nikon for over a decade I can see myself getting a pair of Z9 and be done with it for a while.
The very definition of lossless compression is that there is ZERO loss, so when the image is decompressed it is exactly the same as the original image. If you have lossless RAW compression, then uncompressed raw is completely unnecessary. So you've got it the wrong way round. It's Sony that is just about the only camera manufacturer that does not do lossless RAW compression (except for the A1, their first camera to do it), and if any camera needs lossless raw compression it's the A7R4. Sony is the laggard in the industry here.
That's right. He's wrong about the losing more data, the only thing he's still right about though is that it requires more processing time to "compress" and "uncompress" those photos, but honestly it seems fairly indescernible, especially when you factor that the uncompressed files will be considerably larger and taking more time to transfer and will slow you down a touch working with larger files for the same amount of data.
@@jonasfjellstedt9168 not necessarily. The chips inside cameras has hardware instructions to do those compressions. Computes do not and must do it in software which is slower.
I don't think this changes anything. The af here isn't as sticky as canon. It's semi close to r5 and r6 but not as sticky as r3. This is definitely a great cam for Nikon shooters. But I don't think the z9 isn't aimed at the same audience as the r3 let alone the r1. The z9 is slower and af isn't as good. I would say it would be fantastic for weddings and portraits where you need more resolution than the r3.
@@mayankbaunthiyal I think the AF won't be a relevant selling point for the R1 (I am unsure if the R1 will receive ee tracking like the R3). That will probably be sensor, resolution etc.
@@onlysublime I think we should wait for the final product and proper comparisons before jumping to conclusions about "who's got the best AF" - meanwhile Matt Granger's preview shows some more AF insanity than here - and anyway the possible differences will be so minimal that they won't motivate almost anyone to jump ship.
@wangpie92 I thought same thing as well when I saw @onlysublime's comment...guess he/she's better off with a cellphone. Cameras aren't made for everyone
as a Nikon Z6 shooter(gen1) the Z9 makes me very excited. No, I won't be investing into a Z9, I don't need it. But it makes me excited for Z6 or Z7 mark 3!
It's pretty much safe to say we know why Nikon waited to bring out the Z8 at a later time, probably because they first wanted to introduce their new tech in the flagship camera then trickle it down. If ever they bring out s ZF style camera, it maybe a shutterless camera ... great review; and i agree with you that all camera systems have something great to offer making it unnecessary to be tied or locked down to one camera system.
I hadn’t considered it before, but a Zf with a z9 sensor would be literally a perfect street camera. Compact primes with the ability to crop, shooting 20 -30fps silently, no rolling shutter.
I'm not a Nikon shooter, but really happy to see the Z9. It makes Nikon competitive again, creating a 3 way race rather than the 2 way that's been the case for the last few years. Competition is good for consumers like us. Of course, even at the surprising price of $5500 there will be a fairly limited market for the Z9, just as there is for a $6000 R3 or a $6500+ A1... But the Z9 demonstrates that Nikon CAN do it and a lot of the tech in the top-of-line cameras eventually trickles down into the more mainstream and affordable models. For example, there is going to be pressure on Canon to reduce the price of the R3 (before it has even shipped to stores), since it's a more specialized sports camera with its 24MP resolution. I also predict Canon will eventually offer a version of the R3 with dual CFExpress card slots, doing away with the SD slot. (Anyone buying a $6000 camera certainly can afford the more expensive memory, so there's no reason to bottleneck the camera with the slower SD cards.) Of course, there's also some pressure on Canon to launch an "R1" or possibly update the R5 to a BSI sensor, to match the resolution and readout speed of the Z9 and A1. Sony has a few things they need to improve upon, too... Especially since the A1 is the most expensive of the big three manufacturers' top-of-the-line "hero" cameras. Kudos to Nikon for the Z9! But Nikon still REALLY needs to work on their Z-mount lens line up. Sony has a half dozen year head start and offers more than 2X as much E-mount glass. And even though Canon launched their RF cameras and lenses slightly later than Nikon did the Z-series and only has a similarly modest number of lenses, Canon has done a MUCH better job filling out the range of focal lengths and innovating with their mirrorless lens designs. Where are the Nikkors the Z9 demands?
I set the fn 1 to eye autofocus and fn 2 to focus tracking. I use the back focus to lock the focus tracking when not using eye auto focus. It’s like having a locking single focus point that you can lock and recompose on continuous focus. I mention this because everyone mentions it hard to switch between eye autofocus and single focus.
it's amusing that Jared complained about the Z9 autofocus jumping to the dumbbells in the sit-ups, when he showed that still I thought "I like that", and then he put it in his favourites at the end! 58:16 One of those "pictures you would have missed" moments? lol! Welcome back Nikon!
Glad to see Nikon FINALLY taking some steps. I actually became a fan of your channel when researching upgrades to the new mirrorless cameras. Coming from Nikon, I went for the Z6. I know some had issues, but I loved it. Since upgrading to the Z6II, the honeymoon is over and I've considered switching. Maybe Nikon can start to turn things around because the Z6II software has been the worst "upgrade" I've made since going mirrorless.
The no lag start up is a key feature for me. By itself, for me, this separates the Z9 from the crowd. Plus, the af at 120 frames per second is continuous. You said you suspected it would be locked at the focus of the first shot in a burst in a previous video.
@@jensjorgensen5088 only for the first shot in the series. He said he thought the shots of the long jump guy were out of focus after he started his leap. Check that video again
Great review - I've been considering switching systems from my Nikon D810, which I love, to a Canon R5. Glad I waited. The Z9 if not only "affordable" but allows me to use my existing lenses. I've kind of stop watching this channel because of all the Nikon bashing - but now realize it wasn't Nikon bashing but honest reviews. Thanks Jared!
Just watched the entire video, and it all looks so nice Unfortunately I'm a poor college student so I could never get anything like this, but I just managed to upgrade from a d3500 to a d7500, so yay for me
Loseless compression is just like a zip file: it makes the size smaller but doesn’t alter the data/removes anything. So it’s fine. As long as the processor has the power to do the compress it’s just a positive of saving storage
Got my first Nikon (F2) in high school and still have it! I jumped ship from D810 to Sony A7r3 and A9 after buying /returning the new Z7 when it came out. Then I made the biggest mistake ever jumping to the Lumix S1R and S1 thinking the Leica glass and 3 year warranty would give me the best system. They're great cameras and lenses, but had I'd know how horrific their AF is, I would not have purchased. I love the colors from my old D810 and the few photos I took with the Z7, but the resale value of the Lumix S series has really gone down. Would love to switch back to Nikon and the Z9 looks great. Might be cheaper than going back to Sony or Canon. I'm not happy with my Lumix! Good review Jarod!
Good day. I'm a filmmaker I would say…I shoot with a nikon z50. & I've seen the cameras you've mentioned. Please any you aren't using or don't like no more. I'll be glad to accept it as it will help my filmmaking career. Thanks.
Brutally honest and fair is the reason I keep coming back to you Jared. The other RUclips reviewers give everything any company sends them a perfect score with minimal harsh criticism. You tell it how it is.
Jared, I know you think this is not a D3 moment, but I kinda think it is. For me there is nothing that compares to Nikon ergos, dynamic range, and that glorious Nikon color, and so to finally have a camera that competes on the AF and other specs with Sony and Cannon, that makes it a D3 moment for me. Yeah, I just put one on order. Love your channel, thumbs up my friend.
No uncompressed RAW and the fully articulating screen that everyone else loves had him triggered so it is a damn good thing the z9 has two identical CFExpress type B card slots. It is a speed bag. I'm extremely happy to see that Nikon is back in the game. It is good to have as much competition as possible. At this price they will sell some of these.
Video specs are impressive as well. They finally get it. ProRes internal, 10-bit N-RAW internal, ProRes RAW internal. This is huge in a mirrorless camera. It’s a true hybrid.
It is now time for all of you to start really speaking about the Nikkor lense advantage and also the advantage of 55mm mount and it’s impact on achieving excellent images. Please educate about this too
Of course, Nikon rules. With their superb technology, their products have much longer life than their competitors. My 46 years old Nikon F2A is still in perfect condition.
Do you think any serious photographer would buy a Z9 through Jared's link? I mean seriously, come on..... not everything Jared says is false. In fact most is true! But there are a lot of inconsistencies with what he says. Here is one that he can't back out on. Jared states multiple times on Vahagraphies channel that you don't have to read the comments and he does not. He's states this inaccurate comment 3 times. This is obviously false as he's responded to me an many other comments on RUclips. I don't believe Jared is a bad person, I think he is a very shrud business man, and I truly believe he cares for Stephen and his other employee, and I also truly believe he loves and cares for his family. That being said, he is influenced by money, just like every other human on earth. And therefore if Sony came to him with a lucrative deal and had him sign an Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA), then he can't honestly tell you if sony is paying him. In fact if he admits the truth he could go to jail, and if he lies, well nothing happens to him if he lies....
Dude, I don’t sit there and review every comment all day. When a video goes live I’ll look at the first geez then I get pissed off at stupid comments and realize why I don’t read the comments any more. Be a little thicker next time. Oh and yes, plenty of people have used my link.
I think you nailed the conclusion when you said that many pros jumped the ship and this is not the camera to get them back. Nikon did a great job, but this is an year or two late to the market. The core specs are similar to the R5 and not A1 to me. the 120 fps is a gimmick - that is ok!. The pricing is what makes this interesting. A tad lower and this can fly off the shelves well since there seem to be a good number of people waiting to upgrade. All the best Nikon! Competition is very good for the consumers! The last year has been a very exciting year in cameras not seen since the last decade IMHO.
That was a great preview, Jared. I'm a Nikon user and I think it's great that you honestly criticise and call out Nikon whenever necessary. It's sad that you had no other option but to switch. Nikon has definitely lost many loyal customers because they failed to deliver. I was at crossroads too a few months ago but I just couldn't make the switch. I'm finally feeling a bit relieved now that I see Nikon is finally making bodies that can compete with their Canon/Sony counterparts.
Wow! Nikon is the industry leader once again! That warms a photographer's heart, even if I am a Canon shooter :-) I can't wait to see what Canon will do to match this with the R1. Crossing my fingers for a true global shutter!
Nikons 50mm 1.2 might be larger than the Sony, but this is largely due to the fact that it has been designed to have almost no focus breathing, and thus is awesome for video as well as stills. Sony made different design choices with theirs. It is smaller, but has pretty bad focus breathing, so you could argue better for stills but much worse for video. Would have been good to have mentioned that.
Bad focus breathing is about to become a history with Sony's Breathing Compensation. The Nikon is noisy autofocus should be fixed. I love both Sony and Nikon.
@@giljesusseraspe9225 Sonys breathing compensation reduces image quality. Or didn't you see that footnote in their announcement? You sony lovers are such suckers for sony's BS.
@@froknowsphoto This after years of sony camp screaming "hybrid" needs to be both stills and video. Then sony releases their uncorrected 50/1.2 and now it's like "who cares about hybrid". Super stoked about the AF tech getting better. My broke-ass can't afford this, but when I upgrade my z5 in a few years, I'm hoping this tech will have trickled down to us peasants. This is just a fun hobby and not my livelihood, so I doubt I'll ever leave the z5 line.
Yes. i have Z5 and after this video i will not upgrade to Z6II, but i will use my Z5 to the end until Z9 Autofocus and new processor be in Z6III or maybe Z8.
I also have a Z5 and feel the same, wait for the tickle down from the Z9 to the peasantry. Z glass is what sold me. All but I think 1 FF lens(28mm) are weather sealed. That stopped me from going Sony or Canon as I use my gear in mist/rain and don’t want to deal with non weather sealed gear. And I don’t want to be forced to buy L glass or G master top end stuff for decent weather sealing.
They got the hardware right and this is insane ....autofocus 54 shots in a roll and all in focus....wow!! As to other manufacturers showing commercials with EVF focus sticking on the EYE like glue they all do it....which is not true...as long as the images are in focus I think thats what counts. Well done Jared on your review but you should have said that rather than saying you dont know......well you did a video that said that sony does the pretence glue sticking eye adverts also.
DAMN! Honesty wasn’t expecting this. I thought there was a lot more hype than they could actually deliver on. To see the jump they made is pretty cool.
Sat there and watched the entire video. After all when Jared gives you criticism it s not because he wants to make fun of you, because he s really genuine and wants you to be better (talking about Nikon). And to know how much his words are worthy, they gave him a preproduction camera to test and listened to his notes. Great work Jared, a big fan here ( which is Nikon fanboy here). All the love and respect.
Of course it’s a D3 moment, but some lenses are missing (400mm 2.8, 600mm 4.0, 105mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2) but they will be there soon. At $5.500 it’s close to the A9 II with a grip that’s only 24MP. R5 is around $4.500 and the 24MP R3 is $6.000 but that one isn’t the same thing. The A1 is almost $7.000 with the grip.
I guess there was NO WAY Nikon would ever bring me a Z9 early.....
Keep being who you are friend, you have my support.
Response to your criticism was kindness and attention from their part....

Thanks again for your detailed and fair review.

might take a year or so, otherwise people will buy the Z6/7 III instead of the Z9
They did that way back with the D3 and D700. The D700 was too close to the D3 in performance and it hampered sales of the D3 because it was cheaper, they haven't made that mistake since.
I feel you bro, I am in the same position as you. I am even thinking of getting this one maybe...
Don’t call it a come back! Best camera ever!!
I'm just happy that everyone has something to choose from their favourite company
Exactly.
The "D3 moment" is the removal of the mechanical shutter. Pros will LOVE this as shutter count no longer becomes an issue!
Shutter count hasn't been an issue since Sony a9 so no it's not.
@@Kallio1971 agreed. Removal of the shutter is nice but wont get you better photos and that's what counts.
Shutter count becomes less of an issue. Other parts do wear such as the lens mount, buttons, doors, hinges etc.
Is this a joke? I am a so called “Pro” or “NY Pro” and don’t find this funny at all! Get a life Sir…
I predict that this camera will outsell all other brands in 2022.
How? How can you not lose anything but be smaller???
@@froknowsphoto try winzip a file or rar a file it would be smaller and you wouldnt lose your file.
@@froknowsphoto you ever throw a bunch of stuff in a suitcase and it doesn't fit, then when you fold and organize everything fits. Like that. lol
This is hands down the most impressive mirrorless camera I’ve seen
Been watching this channel for a long time. Jared just plain and simple tells it like it is, straight up, no BS.
Canon R5 and R6 shooter here and I am so happy to welcome Nikon back to the fight!!! The price point will shake somethings up for sure.
There is no one on RUclips yet that has made such a comprehensive review. Thanks!

Thank you Jared for an incredibly well researched, presented, totally honest and frank review
Nikon Rocks
I hate marketing stunts like Digic X or Expeed Lightning as you stated. It's the 7th iteration and i like the transparency. I will read the specs and test it out and get my own bearings.
For me, the vertical angle tilt screen would help a lot in landscape photos, so I'm not crouching so low to the ground all the time
Just get some sweet knee pads like Jared 👍 🤣
I'm thinking why they don't find an articulating and tilting display together 😂
Having a flip out screen on my current camera has been so nice. I didn’t think I’d ever want it but I just shot with a body that didn’t have it and I was big time sad.
i recently bought a z6II as a Canon sony user. I'm buying a Z9 - Nikon colors are beautiful. The Z body is solid
I'm sitting here with the Nikon z7ii like..."I love my camera and I shoot manual focus so much and soooo well that everyone else's issue with Nikon is a non issue." People can talk trash about Nikon but they have the easiest RAWs to work with for me.
Yes and I love that we can select the raw size too!
Yes, it obviously requires more processing power to compress the file.
@@BraedenRoesler If you can compress 20 files per second in camera, you can uncompress them faster on the computer...
@@jonasfjellstedt9168 not necessarily. The chips inside cameras has hardware instructions to do those compressions. Computes do not and must do it in software which is slower.
+1 about compression and quality.
Friend of mine is using Z 85/1.8 for sports Indoor, outdoor and cars on z6ii and he hasn’t problem with “slow” focus.
Sure they don’t. Their camera magically focuses like a Sony.
I think this might ruin Canon's plan to charge $8-10k USD for the R1. (My personal theory on their plans after seeing the R3 price).
@wangpie92 I'm sorry I made you cry. Need a hug?
Cameras aren't made for everyone
the sensor shield is most welcome and most needed .
Every professional sideline sports shooter I’ve ever talked to shoots Jpg anyway so i doubt the lack of RAW at 30fps will break too many hearts.
Truth… and… the firmware upgrade that will give 8k 60 is supposed to have some other things as well… Raw 30 might be one of them.
as a Nikon Z6 shooter(gen1) the Z9 makes me very excited.
(Anyone buying a $6000 camera certainly can afford the more expensive memory, so there's no reason to bottleneck the camera with the slower SD cards.)
Of course, there's also some pressure on Canon to launch an "R1" or possibly update the R5 to a BSI sensor, to match the resolution and readout speed of the Z9 and A1.
So glad Nikon is back in the game. Bring on mirrorless camera wars.
The Z glass is phenomenal, I am not sure what you mean about the Nikon glass.
The glass is great. But the 1.8s are slightly slower then the higher end. Thus why it’s weird they don’t have a gold lined lens
Probably best camera released in last 3 years
Unfortunately not.
True.
Best camera of Nikon not others
spoken like a true fanboy.

I love that sensor shield. I just hate changing mirrorless lenses in the field.
Looks like the z9 is for real. More options for big mirrorless cameras now. Thank you for this video!
The no lag start up is a key feature for me. By itself, for me, this separates the Z9 from the crowd. Plus, the af at 120 frames per second is continuous. You said you suspected it would be locked at the focus of the first shot in a burst in a previous video.

Never say never, my friend

Great preview. Very happy with the preview. Z9 is Nikon's statement: Include everything! Make it reachable!
Thank you Jared, i agree with you, yes, Z9 is astonishing camera, it's much better than Canon's R5 and R3 in all terms. Good work Nikon!
Wow! Nikon is the industry leader once again! That warms a photographer's heart, even if I am a Canon shooter :-)

Wow 🔥.. Nikon is back With a beast... 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
I totally get their reasoning, and couldn't care less about focus breathing for stills.

I can't find fault with the 50 1.2 GM, sorry. It is as near a perfect lens as I've ever used.
definitely the best mirrorless body out at this moment! kudos to Nikon from a Canon shooter!
U could rob some rich old lady 👵
I also have a Z5 and feel the same, wait for the tickle down from the Z9 to the peasantry. Z glass is what sold me. All but I think 1 FF lens(28mm) are weather sealed. That stopped me from going Sony or Canon as I use my gear in mist/rain and don’t want to deal with non weather sealed gear. And I don’t want to be forced to buy L glass or G master top end stuff for decent weather sealing.
Pleasantly surprised about that price.
I can imagine Jared on a date, finding out she doesn't go all the way: "Why not?! Canon does it... Sony does it..."
Meh.. this guy does one night stands, he dates to F
Back to the king Z9
Wow such a stellar Preview! I love these. I'm not even a Nikon shooter, but still love learning more about your experience with it!
Congratulations Nikon.
Thank you Jared.
