    The most incredible video I've seen on the Z9. No fast-paced marketing attack on the senses, no condescending lecture about specs. Amazing scenery and photography - and of course wonderful dogs to help out. The entire video is cinematic and pleasing. I was drawn to the title, because I also don't need one - can't justify one - but really want one! If I buy a Z9 it will be because of this video.

      Yeah but you have to see the other technical on point reviews of the Z9 because you'll get something you don't need at all, it would be a waste of money. This video is great but really it has nothing to do with the capabilities of the Z9..

    • @alohamark3025

      It's going to be tough deciding what to get for Christmas and beyond. I put all my prime Nikon F-mount lenses into storage, pending a full assault on the Sony Alpha and Canon R lines. Too many new bodies coming out from all three manufacturers. This is a dizzying time for both amateur and professional photographers.

    • @siras2
      @siras2 2 года назад +3

      I'd agree with this - it's the most impressive review of the z9 that I've seen. I don't "need" one either, but ... umm ... maybe I'll convince myself that I do.

    • @KnightsandWeekends
      @KnightsandWeekends 2 года назад +7

      @@johnadams3038 I agree that the technical reviews are important, and I've watched several. But I don't agree that this video has nothing to do with the capabilities of the camera. That seems to be a very narrow point of view. I think this video demonstrates that you don't have to be in the midst of dizzying action and excitement to benefit from the many updated features of this new body. Watching people with access to events and activities that I will not have access to does much less for me than this video does. In fact, it was this video that convinced me to pre-order it.

  • @JohnDrummondPhoto

    As a Canon shooter, I'm highly impressed with the Z9's capabilities in both photo and video. Nikon sports and wildlife shooters should be thrilled to death with the Z9. All you need now is more native Z mount long telephotos and zooms. I have no need for a "pro" body from anyone as my R5 and R6 more than meet my needs, but the Z9 throws down the gauntlet to Canon and Sony for sure.

  • @bsmukler

    I watched Morten Hilmer’s video and now this. Brilliant move on Nikon’s part in both instances! No polar bears or firearms in this video, but “Pebbles and Fox eye focus” is equally as inspirational :) I’m glad you included your closing thoughts about the camera for landscape photography. The Z9 is clearly aimed at sports and wildlife photography, especially for professionals, but, weight aside, it’s interesting as an all-rounder due to the traditional Nikon pro-body build. (In that regard, it reminds me of the Leica SL line, which is essentially bulletproof.) In addition to Leica systems, I also use Fujifilm X and GFX gear, which is fine, but with frustratingly small buttons and less robust-feeling overall build. I think Nikon will win back many of those who veered off into mirrorless offerings from competitors with this very advanced, well-built mirrorless flagship.

    I used to shoot Nikon, but switched to Sony 3 years ago. I'm happy to see Nikon is not dead and can actually compete. I hope they release some affordable models with some of the new improvements to counter A7iv and Canon R6 in terms of focus and video. I'll be back when the Z mount lenses become more affordable when the 3rd party options become available.

    • @tubularificationed
      @tubularificationed 2 года назад

      I'm afraid that these two problems might break the Z's neck. Z lenses probably won't get cheaper (why should Nikon do that, as they seem to have decided to be "Zeiss" now). Also, any (relevant) 3rd party support might not materialize in any reasonable time. Look at Fuji, it took 10 years until Sigma still doesn't offer any of their APS-C lenses also for Fuji.
      Nikon is even more problematic than Fuji, the relationship Nikon-Sigma is hostile. Nikon once took Sigma to court. Sigma is Nikon's enemy. In the DSLR era, there were Sigma lenses whose AF stopped working after Nikon camera firmware updates. That stinks like sabotaging an enemy.
      So better don't count on the arrival 3rd party AF lenses to break the overpriced Z lens monopoly prices 😉

    That photo of pebbles running across the frame in the lake with the beautiful light peering over the mountains is *incredible*.
    The Z9 seems amazing - I don't have a need for it, but I want one nonetheless!

    The shot of Pebbles in the spray was amazing.. or Bonkers, as you put it. ;-) Hoping a lot of the Z9 dribbles down to cameras for us mortals. It's nice to see innovation, and Nikon swinging for the fence.

    "...it can't see through dogs!" ahahah that is the next step for Nikon! Absolutely the funniest video ever! :D

    The animal eye autofocus testing you have done is soo much better than anything else out there currently. The results are just unbelievable

    Hi Nigel, thanks for your informative and thoughtful hands on preview on the Nikon Z9 camera. It seems the camera has not been well received by some of the other RUclips channels. One of the things I have learned as a photographer is a camera is more than the sum of it's parts and specifications. As you use a camera over time, it's secrets are revealed. You and Pebbles did a great job. Thanks for the inspiring content.

    Looks like a great camera. The dogs were certainly very happy being out there with you. I think it is a rule that if you are trying to photograph multiple dogs that the one you aren't currently shooting will sit in front of you to say "don't forget about me".

    Did Pebbles enjoy having a friend with him? Fox is adorable too. Oh, and the camera is nice too! 😁

    Wow. Awesome camera. Great pics, Nigel. I am blown away by the ten minute mark. Pebbles and Fox are excellent subjects. How cool the man from Nikon, and Nikon coming out to see you with this new Beast.

    Great video and even better demo of what the Z9 can do! I have the Z7ii so not a buyer but thrilled that the technology of this amazing camera will filter down both in firmware and hardware to the rest of their line. Also excited that the two new lenses announced (100-400 and 24-120) are available as that rounds out my Fearsome Foursome.

    Thanks for sharing your experience Nigel. It looked like you had a lot of fun with the camera, to bad about the increased weight. It looks fantastic, very interesting that there is no mechanical shutter, the read out must be incredibly fast to get focus like that, continuous shooting and 8k. Would be a nice camera for Antarctica!

    I can only wish my Z 7 had sensor shield, only thing I miss of DSLR's. Now thats nice new thing and hope we see those on Z 6 III & Z 7 III

    I agree. I'll be sticking with my Z7ii. As a landscape and architecture photographer the need just isn't there for me. I am glad Nikon got to bring this to market though. It definitely fills the void for sports photography, and greatly improves upon video capture. They nailed this one for sure. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going.
