I eat them exactly like you do. Most of my extended family that has passed. They had a bowl of beans as a side dish as often as bread and butter I cook almost exactly like you do,Everything except the sugar. I will try it. My family is from Kentucky. When my parents where alive if it was Dad’s turn to make the beans, he used small pieces of salt pork. It was obviously salty and smoked bacon was tasty. These days it would not go over well with Most people. But I have to admit, the little pieces of salt pork. Instead of rice Mom made stewed potatoes. She would boiled russet potatoes until they started falling apart. She would then season and butter them as a side dish. Thank you for your time. Bobby

I'm from Texas, and my family was raised up eating pinto beans once a week. We always had cornbread, soft fried potatoes, hot salad, and some kind of greens and of course a chocolate layer cake. Mom said she loved that cake with beans. Our hot salad was, chopped jalapenos, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions with a vinegar and oil dressing and a touch of sugar. Mom always made ice tea. I'm homesick now, will have to wait and see them in Heaven. I'm 73 almost 74. I will cook that meal for my family next time we all get together. Love your channel and cooking.

O, The beans & ham hocks looks so delicious, my mouth is watering. Even though I only like the lean part of the ham hocks. So I will probably make mine with smoked turkey. It was 8 of us, including mom & dad. Money was tight sometimes, so mom cooked her beans with salt pork. Fried chicken, from the yard, and cornbread, sliced tomatoes, onions, with vinegar & sugar. It was delicious also. I think I will be cooking some pinto beans soon. Love u & Mr Tuck, & Brittney. (Flora, your 70+ subscriber)
I love my beans with cornbread and hunks of raw onion sometimes I put mustard in them. I fix them pretty much the same as you and I like my liquid to be a lot so that my cornbread can soak it up plus sometimes I like to just drink the liquid.
