I’m making this recipe for second ma’m. I had to watch again just to make sure I had it just right because first time I made they there heaven. My late mother use to make a recipe just like this but it’s been over 40 years since her passing. I was young and can’t remember but your recipe brought me right back home! Thanks so much for this wonderful anytime recipe but especially on a cold rainy day like today is.
I have never added sugar or garlic to my pinto beans but I will try it. Once my beans are done and breaking apart, I use an immersion blender to thicken up the broth. Works like a charm.
Definitely going to make. We are in Pennsylvania but lived in Brazil for few years. Love Feijoada a Brazilian dish served every Saturday. 40 years later me and my wife are bean dish addicted! Nice video have a blessed day!
🤗🤗🤗 You made me so hungry! Honestly how could anyone in their right mind want a hamburger or pizza after viewing this beautiful food dish!! Thank you so much! ❤
That looks delicious! Another way of thickening up the broth is at the beginning of the last hour of the beans cooking....add a couple table spoons of sugar...it will thicken it up nicely as it cooks and will be kinda like a gravy when it's done. And you don't taste the sugar either.
I thank you for your video it looks yummy, but I wished you would've tasted the season pack that came with your beans so you could tell us what the season tasted like
Thank you for commenting! You are right. I didn't think to taste it. Packet said ham seasoning, therefore I assumed it tasted like ham. Next time, however, I will taste it to know for certain. Thanks again!
Hey sister, them beans are perfect, yea you cook almost the same as I do, or I you, it,s the way you think about food, see before it,s done you already know what it,s going to taste like. Now there are some tricks that you can do, but in the end, it has to turn out like this, or we start all over again, good showing...........be safe.......my pot is on the stove right now....BB
So glad I watched your video! I soaked my beans overnight but I was going to put the ham hock in at the same time with the beans. Watching you i'm sure the ham hock would have been tough as leather when the beans were done. Thank you!
My grandfather used to make this dish. I didn't see him actually put it together. All I remember is that he used a terracotta jar. He would start it early in the morning, and everything would cook down. It smelled awesome and tasted phenomenal 😋
Most of these young people love restaurant food, but there's nothing like home cooking, baby.
Yes indeed. They may not know what they are missing. Thanks you!
Yup I agree 💯
It looks like home cooking is a thing of the past in general. I am a 73 year old Italian grandmother and everything is homemade. Love this receipt.
I don't do a slurry, I take out some of my beans smash them into a paste add back to my beans .
Thank you! Never thought of that. Will try it next time. Thanks again!

I don't put salt in the ham hocks. The ham hocks have enough salt in them.
Thanks for commenting. I agree.
One of my favorite childhood meals from my grandma. I'm going to make this for my wife and boys. Hope they love it as much as I do.

1st time making hocks & beans. Why does the hock water look cloudy after you cooked it to fork tender?
Thanks for asking 🙂 It's the gravy.
I make this in a crockpot, and it's so easy even I can't goof it up.
Thank you!
Add some potatoes as a thickener.
Good idea. Thank you!

Thank you for pointing out the noise. Will be mindful of it going forward. Thank you for commenting.
