Great Northern Beans Recipe

  • In this video I’ll show you how I make my crock pot Great Northern Bean with smoked ham hocks. I usually make my Great Northern Beans, Pinto Beans and my Lima Beans in a crock because it’s so easy. You throw everything in the pot and walk away. You can add or remove from my recipe to make it your own. Either way it’s going to be great because you cooked it yourself! Enjoy.
    Please remember to Like Comment Share and Subscribe. Thanks and God bless!
    1 1 Pound Bag of Dried Great Northern Beans, picked and washed.
    Two Smoked Ham Hocks, washed
    1 Teaspoon Salt
    1 Teaspoon Sugar
    1/2 Teaspoon Black pepper
    Place the ham hocks and beans in the crockpot.
    Add seasonings.
    Add water to the top of the rim of the crockpot. Cover and cook on high heat overnight or 8 to 10 hours.
    Once done remove the fat and the bones from the ham hocks and enjoy your beans with cornbread.
    If you prefer not to use the ham hocks you can use Goya Ham flavoring packets instead. This product is vegan friendly.
    Thanks and God bless.

      Thanks Janelle! I try to keep my dishes simple. That’s the way I was taught how to cook. Keep it simple and make it good. Adding a lot of unnecessary ingredients takes away from the dish in my opinion. I’m not knocking down anyone else’s style it’s just not mine.

      Hey Tina! It you eat pork, smoked ham hawks are great for adding flavor. You can also use smokes turkey wings smoked turkey legs or smoked turkey tails. I’ve used them all and each one is delicious. If I’m going to cook mustard/turnip greens I usually cook my smoked meat in the crockpot the night before then the next day I have flavorful broth to cook the greens with. Thank you for watching and God bless.

      No but when using a crockpot on high the beans should be done in 8 hours. I have a crockpot that has a timer but most of the time I use one of mine that doesn’t have a timer.

    Can you use canned beans ?

    • @JackiesSouthernSoul
      @JackiesSouthernSoul  3 года назад

      If you use canned beans I would cook the ham hocks with no more than two cups of water first then add the beans. You might have to experiment with your cooking time after that so you won’t end up with mush. Thank you for watching and Happy New Year!

    Can you reuse the bones in bone broth?

    • @JackiesSouthernSoul

      I wouldn’t because most of the flavor is in the beans after it’s been cooked. I’ve never made bone broth so I’m just inexperienced with it. Sorry.

    When are you gonna do some ox-tails or pigs feet?

    • @JackiesSouthernSoul
      @JackiesSouthernSoul  4 года назад

      I’ve never cooked oxtails but I can give them a try for you guys once it gets cooler. I used to eat pigs 🐖 feet but I haven’t in so many years. I’ll make some of them too. I’ll make plain barbq and baked.
      God bless!
