    It's best to mix the slurry with cold water. You will not get the clumps. Also I usually just smash some of the beans against the side of the crockpot and that act's as a thickening agent itself

    I have tried to make pinto beans and have always failed. The last time, I put so much salt in them, they tasted like I was trying to eat a coin. These are the best beans I have ever made. I had too much water in the pot so I put it into a soup. Absolutely delicious. I love these people. Now, for them to make pork baby back ribs. I saved the ham bone and have left over ham for the next batch. Those red crushed chili peppers sure did add the spice. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU.

    I like to put turkey wings (smoked) in most of my beans cooked in the crock pot! Delicious!!

    Real nice recipe, my friend just puts flour and liquid in covered jar and shakes it to combine perfectly without clumps !! We learn from each other and we are family...all that live on the earth. A big hello from Wisconsin yall.

    After watching your video I’m making these tomorrow! I’ve been cooking pinto beans and ham hocks in the instant pot for about 1 hr total but it doesn’t hit like in the good ol’ crock pot and it’s more work because you have to cook the ham hocks for 40mins, take them out then add your beans. If not the ham hock will over cook taste dry and lose all the flavor. Then I add them back when the beans are done. Then my beans have hard beans mixed in with cooked beans. When I add additional time to cook the hard beans they’re ALL OVERCOOKED!! 😭 I love the instant pot for certain food but pintos and hocks ain’t one of them!! Thank for sharing!!

    From New Orleans always use chicken broth never put flour let them ook they get creamer as long as you cooking them always soak your beans on Friday to cook on Monday you will have the best beans never eat them the same day you cook them always eat them the ext day best beans ever born here in New Orleans you can't go wrong❤ better days with better beans have a good one

    An option for the thickening roux, which i always used because you don't get any flour flavor, is to use corn starch.

    What I do to thicken any bean soup I make is to puree a can of pinto beans and add that. Besides tjickening, it adds more bean flavor.

    I put salt pork in. Didn't have hot pepper flakes so I used cayenne pepper. Hot soak was the best method though. Thanks for the education, taste buds and tummy happy!

      @@thecartpathwayofcooking Yes ma'am!! I love real food that comes from the soul of the earth. I use everything when cooking. Even when making beans I save the broth and turn it to soup stock. I don't buy bread of any kind, I bake all the bread. I must admit I love sweet corn bread LOL I just watched your fried rice video and I make mine in very close to the same way. I just love your channel!!

      @@thecartpathwayofcooking just an update... It's was super good and the family loved it! Slow cooked it for 8 hours... Used dried pento beans instead of kidney beans as I'm allergic to them for some reason... Anyway... Thanks again! 🤤🤤🤤

    Whenever I cook beans, I have never presoaked my beans. I do go through and check for rocks and the bad beans, but I put everything in the crockpot and cook them for 6-8 hours.

    Use a cornstarch slurry. That flour is not going to dissolve completely
