I'm 57, but this song takes me right back to my 16th summer, when the boy I was crazy about first kissed me. This song is magic or something because we're still together 41 years later, and every single time we hear this song, we relive that memory. This is the soundtrack to the best day of my life.
What a glorious moment in melodic pop/rock music!! if this song doesn't have you dancing in your mind at least, you've already assumed room temperature.
I've always cracked up at the way he says the song title in the intro. Dunno why, just the slowed-down-so-you-can-process-what-I'm-saying feel to it, as well as the way he emphasizes the word "me", gets me every time.
TheShotenZenjin my best friend had a copy of this album that was made of wax. to bad when he divorced his first wife. she got the album and set it on fire.
+Ben Johnson Just like the Beatles.... most of their early songs were written for teeny boppers (12-13 year olds). Why? Good business. That demographic is the one that buys the most music.
Didn't I didn't I didn't I see you crying? "CRY CRY CRY!!" Didn't I didn't I didn't I see you dying? "DIE DIE DIE!!" Not sure if the Japanese girls were doin' it that way, but that's how we always used to sing it!
Dont know that I would say this is their most famous song. Maybe it was at the time.I think Dream Police is more well known. Whenever I have heard anyone mention Cheap Trick thats the song they always name.
No, this, "Surrender" and "The Flame" are their most popular songs. I'm sure "Dream Police" is popular, too, but it's not what gets played on the radio often.
You can hear the Big Star influence. CT were cool, but the band they would go on to cover for That '70s Show intro song were just better. This is a fantastic pop tune tho.

These are the kind of stories that make the comment section worth reading ;)
I always found the live version was always the better version than the L P Version
Joe Flash A major understatement.
Joe Flash I've never even heard the studio version lol. They only play this version on the radio.
Studio version doesn't have that riff like the live version does. That is why The Live version from the Budokan got more airplay and was Number 1.
Joe Flash I remember being pissed after buying the LP album, just for that reason. The two versions were like night and day.
agree'd
Possibly the best rock song performance ever performed.
greatest live rendition of a song ever
Johnny Cab
Absolutely Agree!
Agree

This song never fails to take me back to 8th grade. Always a favorite.
live from budokan came out when I was in 8th grade back in 79 too.
Isn't it weird that this tune, which is one of the great live pop performances ever laid down, has less than 20k views?
lebarosky There are numerous other RUclips videos of the same song.
+lebarosky Some people can't appreciate musical talent.
15k of them was from i
But it's posted multiple times on RUclips!
Too great for words. Another time, another planet.
Greatest live album of all times!
AC/DC’s live album “if you want blood, you got it” gives it a very strong run for the money.
Tied with If You Want Blood...
Me regresa a principios de los 80's! Súperolisima!!!! Love it!

It's from the Budokan album, so he probably spoke slower for the Japanese audience
# 26 on my top 100 albums of all time and one of 6 live albums on the list!!!
Whats your top ten?
Perhaps the best album of the late '70s.... Candidate for the whole F'in decade!
This rollicking great tune is what rock and roll is all about!
Feeling all alone without a friend you know you feel like dying.
I have covered this song one and off since it came out. Always fun to play!
Great song !! love this version, cheers from Mexico
Bought the "Live at the Budokan" album in England and I'm pretty sure the LP was made in yellow vinyl. Does anyone else remember this edition?
TheShotenZenjin my best friend had a copy of this album that was made of wax. to bad when he divorced his first wife. she got the album and set it on fire.
Best part is when Rick does a quick down up strum at 3:08.
Any time you look at Japanese adults as being conservative, upright and stiff just remember, 40,000 of them are the kids screaming in this song.
+Ben Johnson Just like the Beatles.... most of their early songs were written for teeny boppers (12-13 year olds). Why? Good business. That demographic is the one that buys the most music.
+Ben Johnson OH baby, you have no idea. LOL!! We screamed, danced, sang, cruised, danced at the discos, and had very big hair.
think you missed the point of Ben's comment. You were to contrast the now conservative adults with how they were as screaming adolescents.
As long as they aren't liberal we're good.
excellent album🔊
The 80's rocked
I love this version a lot better then the studio version tbh
Thanks for bringing it back!
Hadn't listened to Cheap Trick so much but I will/
True young love at its best....
It kind of reminds me of John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy."
Didn't I didn't I didn't I see you crying? "CRY CRY CRY!!" Didn't I didn't I didn't I see you dying? "DIE DIE DIE!!" Not sure if the Japanese girls were doin' it that way, but that's how we always used to sing it!
I honestly thought this was the studio version, when I was a kid. Might as well be!
Totally Awesome! 👍
l love this song
the original is slow and boring. this one is fast and upbeat and i love it
Cheap Trick's only million selling single.
The studio recording of this song is so much more mellow compared to this version, had no idea!
Anybody "EveryBody want some" watchers here ?? ^^
Bombig!!!!
Good times

Dont know that I would say this is their most famous song. Maybe it was at the time.I think Dream Police is more well known. Whenever I have heard anyone mention Cheap Trick thats the song they always name.
+Kastistos2000 --I would say Surrender is the most well-known Cheap Trick song.
No, this, "Surrender" and "The Flame" are their most popular songs. I'm sure "Dream Police" is popular, too, but it's not what gets played on the radio often.
This is like some kind of zen arcade.
Husker Du? :D
You can hear the Big Star influence.

This is a fantastic pop tune tho.
1980
One Tree Hill 7x15
I would argue that "Surrender" is their more famous song than this one.
The band, HATES, , the studio version.
OMG the Japanese know how to rock 😅
I WANT YOU.........TO WANT ME.............HI!!!!!!!!!!!...........IM KERRIE THE SPAKLE FERRY...........SPARKLE PAPER TOWELS COMMERCIAL
Why cant todays kids write, play and love this kind of music. The hell with all this political garbage and strife.
You only get 1 life to live.
Lindsay Lohan's version is way better. Cheap Trick stole this from Lindsay Lohan.
Cheap Trick did this first. Lindsay Lohan covered it.
