I'm looking to replace my beamsworks 48" full spectrum with hygger. I don't care for the darker areas the 4ft light casts on my 6ft tank. Would I need 2 of the 3ft hyggers to avoid this or would that be to bright? TIA
I use one of these on my betta tank but it has an interface on the actual light mount itself! It works great, my plants have been growing like crazy and its powerful enough to penetrate through the thick mat of floaters I have without burning them.
I have that model as well. There are two models (maybe more). Actually, I have the one in this video and the one with the interface on the light. The latter is stronger (more wattage) but the former has a really nice dawn/dusk feature with the daylight/nightlight ... so nice.
Yes, good timing. I'm looking at lights for my new 20L. I'm glad it doesn't require fancy phone apps and all that. I'm seriously old school, all I need it to do is turn on, off, and light the tank decently to grow some plants and see my fish, 🙂 👍❤👍
The built in light, in my 10 gallon hood, died, so I got a Hygger submersible light. It can go in the tank, or use supplied suction cups to mount on underside of hood. I just love this light! It had made my plants very happy too. Got it through Amazon.
This is the 978 Hygger light. They also have the 957. I have both. The 957 is a stronger light (more wattage) but is also hotter. The 957 also doesn't have the 24/7 mode which is very very nice. I imagine it's unnecessary but it's just nice having that gradual shift over the day. Thinking of sending the 957 back and getting the 978. :| Thank you for the review. Really appreciate your channel. You (all) have helped me a lot.
I love these lights too. As I’m replacing or adding new lights to my fish room, I generally get these because they’re lasting a long time, the color spectrum is great, and I have the option to use the timing and brightness features if I want them, and it’s inexpensive!
Jeez, my living room 46 bowfront that I just love still has the original flourescent hood and still looks great. I still keep a flip phone for backup also. My how times are passing by. Great video, thank you.
Got 1, I went to the higher model that has the timer built in so my fish experience morning sunrise and sunset. The red lights are great for high light required aquatic plants too.
Acquired a Hygger 24/7 second hand so I’m excited to try it out. I do have a light with similar functions on a timer and I dislike that it doesn’t keep the memory of the last setting when it comes back on, luckily no plants in that tank.
I do have it, and I went off your recommendation, and I agree I love it, getting it dialed in, that’s another matter And you nailed it as far as what’s great about it, what’s not so great, and the budget friendliness of it Thanks 🙏
Great review jason! I've been running these lights over 3 years now and they're still going strong. I really appreciate how thorough you are! I think you're the only one that does these follow up reviews. When i buy products I always want to know how they hold long term.
I actually liked the light spectrum of the NICREW Classic better and the NICREW has a better timer in my opinion. That said, I do agree that this is a very nice light for this price point.
I agree. I love this light. I have a couple of current lights and a couple of these in use, but, imo, hygger light beats current. The color spectrum is gorgeous.
Thank you for reminding me about the external timers, that was my only down fall for this light. I'll move it off the timer and I'll be happier for sure!
I have the 48" Hugger light. Really happy with it too. The only thing I dislike is having to hold the button to turn it of. If you just push it, it cycles through the colors.
Running these on 3 of my tanks from 75 to 10 gallons best bang for your buck, also got the beamswork prefer this light over them as well couldn’t agree more with this review!
My dad just picked up one of these lights off an auction site he got it for $6 for a 20g I told him to get it even though I don’t need it! Now I have a spare. Good to know about the external timer automatically reverting back to 100% all lights I’ll make sure whatever I end up putting it on can handle the 100% power
I bought the hygger 24/7 light for my tank and I love the built in timer and I get crazy plant growth on my 40g breeder I especially like the morning/nighttime lights how it slowly ramps down because it helps me wake up and fall asleep better bc I have the tanks in my bedroom
I a 4 foot one of these on a 55g and I think its performing adequately so far. I noticed the same problem you mentioned with using it on an external timer and erasing all settings. this ended up producing a lot of algae since the blue light was on full blast. I went back to using the built in timer which is ok, except that at least with mine the timer "drifts". If I set it to come on at 3pm and turn off at 9PM it will do fine the first day then the next day it might be more like 3:05-9:05 etc. after a couple weeks it can be off an hour or more. still 6 hour intervals but not turning on and off when I wanted. might just be my particular light though. I bought a JC&P for a 10g and so far i like it better than the Hygger. Love your reviews Jason, keep'em coming!
Forgot to mention Hygger lights are sealed 🙃. Hygger for the win! I'm running about 20 and don't see myself changing anytime soon. The plant growth I get is incredible - low tech growing things you supposedly can't.
Really appreciate this review. I am in the process of setting up a tank I have had since Christmas. I have been gathering my supplies and lights are my last purchase. Based on all of the positive reviews I will definitely be going with the hygger light.
Ok like the main timer on the fish room. Its still a great light for the money. Love the content, hope you both have asmuch fun making them as we do watching!
I love this light. Grows my plants well. But, as you said, it could use some memory upgrades. The product info at least let me know if my power went out I would have to reset the 24/7 timer. My fish appreciate the gradual on and off!
I 100% agree with the light spectrum of my Hygger! At a certain point I "upgraded" mine to a Chihiros but I had to keep them both on the same tank just because the Hygger makes plants and fish look better! However I would totally pay a bit more for a version thats a bit smarter, more customizable.
Hello friend. Whats the model of your chihiros? I also have a higger, but im having troible groing my carpet with that light. I was looking for a chihiros wrgb ii pro, but the price is aroun 350€ where I leave for the 80 model. Did you notice a big difference when you upgraded? Kind regards

I have a nicrew 11 watt 24in light. It grows my stem plants and easy plants pretty good, but not my dwarf hair grass. I have a 20 high and was thinking the light wasn't strong enough for the bottom of the tank. 25 dollars worth of dwarf hair grass down the drain😣

Hi. Did you notice if it was making grow more algae? I put the HG-957 in a 20g high, using the standard mode (day + moon), the daytime put full spectrum at the peak (it increases at the beginning of the cycle and dims at the end, because that I like) but even the customization program does not allow choose the spectrum, I'm looking to remove the blue light. On the hygger 957 on the automatic day light set timer does it open at 50 percent I my light goes on and off but the percentage turns on at 50 %not 100%
Hi Jason I'm looking to buy a good quality LED light with a full spectrum for my 48-inch long x 24-inch high x 20-inch deep aquarium, and I do like your reviews of the Hygger, please can you tell me will this light be powerful enough to reach the bottom of my tank, my plants are to be the varieties that Joanna recommends in her small scape videos, there is to be no CO2 regards Paul from the UK

If you don’t have high light plants I’d go with the size below the 30”. We also have basically every other light brand on the market in our fish room. Haha
Do you think the lighting from one of these would be good for a cube tank ? (I have a 35 gallon 20"x20"). Not sure of I would need one or two for even lighting.
Hi Jason, I bought this light but it comes with the 24/7 sunrise daylight moonlight mode. Do people recommend to actually use that light or is that too much? Especially at the beginning stages
Hello! I have had some black velvet molly’s in my tank for over a month now. no issues but i noticed one had been missing but since they’re black and can blend in with my dark driftwood i didn’t think too much of it. found him dead under one of my hideouts and not sure how long he’s been there(max 3 days). did a 50% water change and gravel vacced. will my other fish in that tank be okay?
Not a big fan of hygger light. When it turns on in the morning it goes to 100 and there is not way to change that without cycling through the colors. If I forget to turn it down the green algae goes crazy
I was really thinking of getting it until you said it wouldn’t work with a timer 😞. Not quite twenty four hours into the coconut fiber as filter medium, fish doing fine all I can say at this point. Bought it at Bensons pet store it’s for different animals bedding / nesting material so it should be animal safe. Didn’t get it from garden center because some of it has been treated for pests.
so the 14 inch one like you got is 26 bucks for one that has a timer that turns it on and turns it off for you every day with set light cycle its 27 bucks lol and its 1 inch wider has more leds and has green led's for a wider color spectrum. FOR A BUCK MORE get the better version people.

I purchase two hygger 957 and timer doesn’t sync with the light I set it to go on at 10 am and I’m litterally turning it on and off by hand …
What if you plugged it into a ups with battery back up like you would use with a computer?
That might work.
wondering why you would need an external timer if this light has one?
All my lights are plugged into power strips that are plugged into timers.
Will keeping one of these on the 24hr cycle cause a huge algae bloom? Seems like a lot of light using that.
Ya, it could

I have tried contacting the company but have not gotten anywhere. Any suggestions? Right now I am thinking about maybe a finnex. I have only had the hygger since January.
Anyone can recommend what intensity to run this light. New to the lobby. Thanks
Depends on the depth of the tank and what plants you have. I run it about 2-3 clicks from max.
I like my hygger light
What would be the appropriate size one for a 20g long (30 1/4 in)? The 16W one or the 20W one? Also, what are some of your takes on the various other lights?
If you don’t have high light plants I’d go with the size below the 30”. We also have basically every other light brand on the market in our fish room. Haha
If you long press the +- button it will go dimmer.
I need a new one for my 20 gal

Would you recommend this hygger light for a 220 gallon tank with plants maybe 2 48 inch hygger lights
I might go with Fluval 3.0s in that case.
I think they may have fixed the timer issue mine remembers intestacy and is on a Wi-Fi timer not sure if it’s on all models
Will it remember intensity with a smart plug ?
@@matthewblankenship7968 that’s what mine is on and yes it dose for me
Do you think the lighting from one of these would be good for a cube tank ? (I have a 35 gallon 20"x20"). Not sure of I would need one or two for even lighting.
Depends on the types of live plants. For most beginner plants it would work fine.
Hi Jason, I bought this light but it comes with the 24/7 sunrise daylight moonlight mode. Do people recommend to actually use that light or is that too much? Especially at the beginning stages
I think it tends to be too much light.
If they look healthy they might be ok. Just make sure you don't have an ammonia spike.
Not a big fan of hygger light. When it turns on in the morning it goes to 100 and there is not way to change that without cycling through the colors. If I forget to turn it down the green algae goes crazy
We have ours on a timer and haven’t had that issue?
I was really thinking of getting it until you said it wouldn’t work with a timer 😞. Not quite twenty four hours into the coconut fiber as filter medium, fish doing fine all I can say at this point. Bought it at Bensons pet store it’s for different animals bedding / nesting material so it should be animal safe. Didn’t get it from garden center because some of it has been treated for pests.
how hot does your power supply get on the 48"
It gets warm for sure, but not unusually hot.
so the 14 inch one like you got is 26 bucks for one that has a timer that turns it on and turns it off for you every day with set light cycle its 27 bucks lol and its 1 inch wider has more leds and has green led's for a wider color spectrum. FOR A BUCK MORE get the better version people.
Question, my Platy has had a big belly for about 6 to 7 months now what is this?
It’s a female too
Sometimes they just get a little fat.
The lockdown effect
Gamalta Aquarium Lighti is cheaper and better.
The light is too intense for the plants. It is creating dark green algae that is choking the tank
I haven’t had that issue. There is a lot that goes into algae besides light - especially nitrate and phosphate concentrations.
Buying this light. Thank you
