Hey sorry i know this isn't about the video but my fish got really injured by a rock his right side of his face is mostly meat showing and it's keeps getting worst and he has blood ,even when we put him in a quarantine tank his swimming fine but he isn't eating and that fish is really special i don't want to be gone and we brought meliex is there any advice you can give me
My favorite aquarium light is hygger Aquarium Bluetooth LED Light (HG028) which is hygger’s top of the line light. I ran a comparison between the Hygger and the Chihiros WRGB. Both lights were the same size in 5 gallon tanks. I configured them as close to the same as I could get them. I had an inert substrate in both with no fertilization except for a betta fish.mi had a fall moon betta in both tanks which I fed with the same Ultra Fresh betta food. I added red root floaters into both 5 gallon tanks and the floaters came from the same source. I also added the same amount to both, no CO2. I gave it a month and at the end the Hygger had grown the most beautiful red root floaters I had ever seen. Both lights had grown the floaters, but the plants in the Hygger tank had redder leaves and the mat of plants was thicker. The roots were what amazed me. The roots on the floaters in the Hygger tank were bright red. They were so red they didn’t look real. Since this test I have put Hyggers on all my tanks. I like the Chihiros, but it is so expensive and in my opinion doesn’t grow plants as good as the Hygger Bluetooth light.
I just got one for my 75 gal and maaaaan you are the mother effin GOAT because the instructions manual sux at explaining all the functions! Thank you so much for your videos! 🎉
Thanks, I've had this light for 3 months and couldn't figure out the switches even with the instructions. Because of your class, I can take advantage of the features, Thanks again.
I honestly love that the fish hobby, specially when we are talking about LED lights, are constantly working on making the best light possible at the affordable price. I got 2 hygger planted +24/7 lights for an 18L X 18W x 36H tall terrarium and they are SUPER bright.
I like the way you do these kind of product reviews. You strike a good balance between useful information and enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work!
I've used various sizes of these lights for about 6 months. I absolutely love them. Good with planted tanks, and the newer ones I got with the auto timers are fantastic.
Got the hygger lights on all 3 of my aquariums I love them. The 24/7 timer that starts with the sunrise and ends with the moonlight is amazing and don’t have to ever worry about turning lights on or off
I enjoy the pretty moonlight setting for a little while at night before winding down, but with tanks in my bedroom, I don't want to flood the room with blue light- I wish it had a true darkness setting on the 24 so I didn't have to unplug every night 😅. (Thanks for the tips on setting those timers, John, every single one is different, it's so confusing!)
This is the feature that is really intriguing to me. Is it easy to program? Would i be able to be able to show all the light colors (like to a guest) without messing up the schedule?
Absolutely love this light!! I have the 18inch one on my uns tank and I have to say it’s extremely easy to use. Just plug it in and set the 24 hour setting and you’re good. I’d recommend it to everyone.

Well done video and enjoyed it. The one thing I wish I could find in reviewers is a follow-up review after some use of the products. If you could speak about how well the plants grew or didnt grow, or how the product seemed to hold up after 6 months. Anyways thanks for the honest review.
those clip on back hyggers are nice if you can get them to fit over the top molding. The lay on flats are the only lights that are 100% compatible with all tanks... You will still need a glass top... the metal rods that hold the light up will rust badly if you don't keep them from getting wet!

I just got one of the Hygger lights with the 24/7 setting. Unfortunately it came with the plug/power supply piece missing. I contacted Hygger and within an hour they had sent me a message that they were sending a replacement out. As long as it shows up, that's quality support.
Hi John, I have this brand but mine is submersible but I have it suction cuped to the top of my hood and the programming is the same. I use the 24/7 setting. I love it.
I just got this light from you guys about 3 days ago and I've been debating on which timer to use and the directions were confusing I love when you guys do reviews of something and explain how to use them is so much easier than reading the directions that it came with thank you one thing I like to know this 24/7 mode gets to full brightness is that going to be okay for a betta fish to use the 24/7
Thank you for this review! Timely for me, as I just purchased two Hygger HG-990s for my 6 and 5.5 gallon nano tanks. I started with the Aqueon clip-ons, but I wanted more adjustability without spending a bundle. These lights are outstanding for the price and my tanks are gorgeous. In particular, your review was most helpful in setting up and understanding the features. That switch control is TINY. Good light and reading glasses required! As a new fish keeper, I really enjoy your reviews, and well, all your videos. You're my go to channel. All the best!
I have 3 of them 12"-48" Awesome lights. The only problem is fine tuning is a lil complicated. The ones I have are a lil different. The controls for the light are on the end of the base lit up by a led light.
Subscribed. I was a fish nerd in the 80’s & 90’s. Haven’t kept a tank in over 20 years, I bred and sold Apisto’s, Julisichromis, Congo Tetra’s and others as well. Really appreciate this video as I was looking at these lights for a 125 I am setting up. Do a review on box filters for those folks who don’t have experience with these super simple, reliable, adaptable OG staples. 😁
👍😎 Thanks John. I’ve been thinking of replacing lights on my 125, still have the T5 (rain gutter looking) ones. When you do a filter review, put Methane blue or food coloring inside of it before you turn it on, did that years ago (just to put med’s in) then watching the flow was kinda cool. And you’ve stepped up your video’s, good job. Live stream with Prime Time was funny, I actually laughed out loud when listening.
Again, kick ass review John, Love your no-nonsense approach to your product reviews and have enjoyed previous videos you have. I especially enjoyed the one you did on the Fuval's 407 canister filter so much that I purchase one for my planted 75-gallon tank. Works just fine, since in a planted tank you really don't want a very fast current. I run mine with a spray bar from Flow Tamer and it works great with the set up. V/R Carlos.
I have one tank that I turn the blue light on at night. I use it as a night light when I let my dogs out to do their business. Works like a charm! (Something about turning on the bright overhead lights wakes me up too much!) And I have noticed that when the lights come on in my 125 (on a regular $4 timer from Walmart) my fish scatter and I'm afraid they may run into something. These lights will be perfect for that tank! And it really does seem much simpler than the dimmer switch that I added.....that thing is extremely difficult to set, like you said. I'm almost hoping one of mine burns out so I can buy one of these. ;-) Great tutorial! Thanks!
My Hyggers morning lights pop on at like 10 am, and then ramp down by 2am I've noticed The sunset mode makes this light kinda wonky. I love it though. Just set your lights at 10am if you want blue lights at around 12, and then turn off by 2am.
Hello John and Lisa, As I'm coming back into the hobby I want to do things right but also not go crazy when it comes to spending the money, I was not sure which way to go regarding filtration until watching your video on the many hang on the backs and now I'm pleased to say thanks to you it is going to be the seachem tidal 110 which will be perfect for my needs, Next was aquarium lighting, which will be the Hygger, as you say aquarium lighting can come with so many different settings etc, but and how many of these do we actually need ? so next is your aquarium heaters and air pumps reviews keep up the good work that you are doing as it is very much appreciated Paul from the UK
About to order the 18w version of this light for my 34gallon seaclear acrylic hex aquarium. I just put on a tidal 75 from you onto this tank. This tank was my snail tank for my puffer fish, but since his passing I got rid of his old tank and am revamping the acrylic tank. Thanks for your reviews. I was about to buy the fluval 3.0 plant light 22w version for 150 dollars, but after seeing this light, I figure for 45 dollar shipped its worth a try. Again thanks for your content.
I just ordered the 18W based on this presentation. Thanks for all the info, known brand lights have ridiculous pricing and can basically impede this hobby when going for multiple tanks. Was looking for this kind of affordable lights, would have ordered from you if i were in the US but im in Europe.
I love your reviews. You do a really good presentation. Your down to earth and it makes sense. I am upsizing to a 75 gl tank and looking at a lot of reviews about lights. I like a planted tank and am looking for a light that reaches to the bottom. I have watched a lot of reviews. Yours are the best. Keep up the good work.
GREAT VIDEO, JOHN! I agree, that this is a great option for people who can't afford the expensive ones. Unfortunately it came out just a couple of weeks too late for me to order from you, because I just recently purchased the Hygger light with the 24 hour cycle to upgrade my 75g from my very old fashioned neon growth lights. I am currently trying the 24 hour cycle which pretty much is the same schedule I am on. I didn't have John's great instructions but figured it out. The 24 hr schedule is fun, but even in the middle of the day, the light is not at its brightest and you can't adjust. So far, my plants are doing well, I have had some growth on some of them within days (Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus). I have some other simpler Hygger lights on a couple of smaller tanks and the plants are doing well without the 24 hr cycle. If the 24 hr cycle on the 75 g doesn't work out after a month, I can always switch to one of the other cycles. But so far, I love this light. Definitely great for the price!
How come my pH is low and hardness is low. I'm using those basic test strips. In my 3 gallon Betta tank? I did my water change s is this a concern? Thanks 👍
Currant usa was a very good light for me, but I also ran T5's on my reef, what zone should my light be on the spectrum in freshwater. What I liked about the Currant USA was all the effects you had and the moon lighting, etc. I thought that was awesome.
Which lights are installed on the tank behind you and also is that a dark blue background ? combination looks really amaziing, its not bright but the fishes are clearly standing out. Please share how to achieve that look.
I have a hygger 24/7 clip on and a fluval 3.0 for my CO2 tanks Both do the job. The fluval is more natural, but I prefer the "blue" look of the hygger.
Thanks for the great instructional videos! Please tell me which lights would work best for my 150 gallon tank . I really like the 24 hour mode that you described but it doesn’t come in 72”. Right now I have two LED strips that are pretty at night but not powerful enough to make plants happy on the bottom. I want to add floating water plants and remove the glass tops . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Would these lights be good for high light loving plants? Also, can I use a glad lid with them or does it affect the power of the lights? my plastic hood led light already has LEDs burned out and its only a few months old! 🤬
I really like the hygger lights. Great value imo. Would love to see a review on the hygger horizon 8 gallon glass aquarium kit. I really like it but would love to see an honest review by some of my fave fish RUclipsrs.😊
I have a newer model of this light. It's really nice and easier to program with a digital screen. I have it automatically cycling from dawn to dusk...first and last two hours are 10%. It changes in 2 hour increments. You can adjust how bright you want each stage. Great for planted tanks!
Fantastic! I think I may try these lights when it's time to get some. Currently doing my research becauae I hope to soon attempt my first planted tank for a betta. Wish me luck!
I'm still using some original floorscent fixtures. Geez. And never drop one of them in a tank!! I will be upgrading to these new leds soon. Thank you and keep up the product reviews. It's hard for many of us to keep up with all that is new AND PRACTICAL in the hobby.
Good content! I just purchased my first Fluval for a plants only experiment tank. I am doing two plants only tanks. One for harder water plants. One for what I think are softer water plants. Technically, I should be doing four tanks to really prove my theories and may once I prove this step. Anyway, I am in the market for even more lights. If the wattage is the same as Fluval, I may go with the Hygger. I am also setting up some bigger tanks in my soon to be fishroom and these will fit the budget! Thanks!!!!
What size would you recommend for a 29 gallon? Also there should be a ‘light to common tank size’ chart on the website. Thanks for another great video!
John making it sound so much better to not have an app 😂. I actually own three of the planted lights by them and love them. They are pretty good lights but I do wish there was an app to run them
i ordered 3 sky aqua led lights for my 55 gallon planted tank from kg tropicals. 1 48 inch light and two 20 inch lights according to the book in the box these are rated at 50 par at 12 inches of depth my question is if im running all three lights do i add that up to 150 par which means my tank has high lighting or is it just 50 par which i guess is medium light? or does this even matter that much? im just trying to figure out why my plants are not doing as well as i would like them to be, thanks in advance
That is so funny.😂 I was thinking : "Oh! that is so cool! The daylight cycle will help me wake up every morning too! (the tank is in my bedroom)". Then...... : "oh ..... I'll have to wake up super early to set it......" 😂
What would be the chance of you doing a vid on thier new Bluetooth full color LED light. Seems there is no reviews or clean set up information for these Hygger light.
good choice! i have an older model hygger that has the same remote thingy. the issue i have is if you set the light to the brightness and timer you want, as soon as you lose power, it resets..... have they fixed this?
Is there a way to mount this in a wooden hood rather than using the wire sides to place them on the edge of the aquarium? I have a 75-gallon aquarium and need something reasonably priced that can be attached to the hood/canopy. Thanks.
What are your thoughts on the “Hygger Programmable” light? Has a built in clock so you dont have to wait all day to custom program it. Instructions are horrific but once you figure it out it’s really nice.
I can't get the DIY mode to stay working. I'll set a light schedule and sometimes the light decides to just not turn off. It happens just about every other day so now I just unplug and plug it in myself to control time. Not to mention the light and power brick get seriously hot. Hot enough to burn your skin if you held onto it. Makes me think it's not going to last very long
I convinced. Also need a new tank cover. Can you build one of those? However, you also convinced me that the seachem 55 was the best filter since sliced bread. It’s going on it’s third motor since purchase ( less than a year ago.
I had a Hygger for a bit and it was great, except every time the power went out I'd have to set it up all over again (had the one with the extra programming). Because of that I ended up getting a Fluval 3.0. Overpriced, but the ease of programming was worth it to me.
I just added the 10w light bar that Hygger makes to my tank. Yeah, everything technical is sketchy. I'm running the 24/7 cycle, and I had to read it about 5 times to figure it out. Honestly, if they were programable with the available lights I would be thrilled. Other than that, it seems to work great for my fluval 8.5g. fade up, daylight, fade out. You don't offer the light I bought, but it's the same controls and programming. If you offered it, It'd bought it from you.
Very informative like quality honest information on products. Like the light levels company said nine levels but you were honest to explain how the manufacturer claims more for advertising but you tell us how there determines that. I like simply too less things to go wrong.
Just purchased a Hygger, LOVE IT. I have a question. My 29gal is 30" across. This light I bought is 23" so the body of the light itself doesn't reach the side edges. They do sell one that is 29.5 long. Is it better to have a light that reaches all the way to the sides? Ty
I have an 18" on a 29g and if it wasn't so thick with thriving plants in there (and floaters) it would be as bright as noon if I wanted to be, it's a pretty stout light.

Listening….. I sure hope so because I just bought one!
I really enjoy the product reviews. Please continue to do these. They are very helpful!
Perfect timing, included one in my recent order from you guys. Can't wait to see my tank with it.
Again, kick ass review John,
Love your no-nonsense approach to your product reviews and have enjoyed previous videos you have. I especially enjoyed the one you did on the Fuval's 407 canister filter so much that I purchase one for my planted 75-gallon tank. Works just fine, since in a planted tank you really don't want a very fast current. I run mine with a spray bar from Flow Tamer and it works great with the set up.

Carlos.
That beautiful bichir stands out quite nicely in the darker tank. Very active fish during this video. 😁
Thanks!
My Hyggers morning lights pop on at like 10 am, and then ramp down by 2am I've noticed
The sunset mode makes this light kinda wonky. I love it though. Just set your lights at 10am if you want blue lights at around 12, and then turn off by 2am.
Love my hygger 24hr cycle and brushed aluminum looks fantastic
Hello John and Lisa, As I'm coming back into the hobby I want to do things right but also not go crazy when it comes to spending the money, I was not sure which way to go regarding filtration until watching your video on the many hang on the backs and now I'm pleased to say thanks to you it is going to be the seachem tidal 110 which will be perfect for my needs, Next was aquarium lighting, which will be the Hygger, as you say aquarium lighting can come with so many different settings etc, but and how many of these do we actually need ? so next is your aquarium heaters and air pumps reviews keep up the good work that you are doing as it is very much appreciated
Paul from the UK
What about manually keeping it on just orange light or just blue light?
About to order the 18w version of this light for my 34gallon seaclear acrylic hex aquarium. I just put on a tidal 75 from you onto this tank. This tank was my snail tank for my puffer fish, but since his passing I got rid of his old tank and am revamping the acrylic tank. Thanks for your reviews. I was about to buy the fluval 3.0 plant light 22w version for 150 dollars, but after seeing this light, I figure for 45 dollar shipped its worth a try. Again thanks for your content.
Thank you. I really appreciate the time you spent. I’m looking into my first real light for my axolotls new 75 gallon. This really helps!
I just ordered the 18W based on this presentation. Thanks for all the info, known brand lights have ridiculous pricing and can basically impede this hobby when going for multiple tanks. Was looking for this kind of affordable lights, would have ordered from you if i were in the US but im in Europe.
Yes, the hygger is great value with amazing build quality and features.
I saw a video of the other hygger light that has a screen on the control. Has someone made a comparison review of the two lights?
I have been looking for quality lights. This perfect! I will be ordering one soon. I’ll be getting a new tank soon
Loved it, just the motivation to pull the trigger on a 42" for my 55gal! Thanks!
It's been 1 year, how has the 24 hour cycle worked out for you? Algae issues? Plant health?
Wow,, what a great light, I can’t believe how great this this light is
thanks for the info.
I have Hygger lights on almost all of my tanks! Hygger makes a great magnetic algae scrapper too!
I love how active that polypterus is back there
Which lights are installed on the tank behind you and also is that a dark blue background ? combination looks really amaziing, its not bright but the fishes are clearly standing out. Please share how to achieve that look.
I have a hygger 24/7 clip on and a fluval 3.0 for my CO2 tanks
Both do the job.
Thank you
it is really nice on the tanks in the bedroom
I love reviews on products.
Please do more of the reviews!!! Love em!
Just ordered one for my vivarium. Very curious to see how my plants and frogs will react to it.
I love your product reviews. The Fritz Zyme fishless fuel and Fritz Zyme 7 was awesome. I can cycle a tank fast.
I have a newer model of this light. It's really nice and easier to program with a digital screen. I have it automatically cycling from dawn to dusk...first and last two hours are 10%. It changes in 2 hour increments. You can adjust how bright you want each stage. Great for planted tanks!
Hygger lights are awesome. Perfect light for most hobbyists.
Fantastic! I think I may try these lights when it's time to get some.
Currently doing my research becauae I hope to soon attempt my first planted tank for a betta.
Wish me luck!
Thnak you for explaining the features in a manner that was easy to understand!
I'm still using some original floorscent fixtures. Geez. And never drop one of them in a tank!! I will be upgrading to these new leds soon. Thank you and keep up the product reviews. It's hard for many of us to keep up with all that is new AND PRACTICAL in the hobby.
I just received a beamswork light in the mail today for my 40 breeder. What do you think of those?
Good content! I just purchased my first Fluval for a plants only experiment tank. I am doing two plants only tanks. One for harder water plants. One for what I think are softer water plants. Technically, I should be doing four tanks to really prove my theories and may once I prove this step. Anyway, I am in the market for even more lights. If the wattage is the same as Fluval, I may go with the Hygger. I am also setting up some bigger tanks in my soon to be fishroom and these will fit the budget!
Thanks!!!!
u should do a review on your new sump. that would be great
Love the review. Thank you for the instructions, just bought one. 🙂
What size would you recommend for a 29 gallon? Also there should be a ‘light to common tank size’ chart on the website. Thanks for another great video!
I use the 30 to 36 inch one on my 29 gallon tank and it fits it perfectly. I use the 24 hour sunrise to moon light setting and its really nice.
John making it sound so much better to not have an app 😂. I actually own three of the planted lights by them and love them. They are pretty good lights but I do wish there was an app to run them
Hi, I wish I could buy from you, but you don’t seem to carry the newer versions with the remote control :(
Thanks John, great info, tell the QUEEN Thanks also
i ordered 3 sky aqua led lights for my 55 gallon planted tank from kg tropicals.
That is so funny.😂
I was thinking : "Oh! that is so cool! The daylight cycle will help me wake up every morning too! (the tank is in my bedroom)".
Then...... : "oh ..... I'll have to wake up super early to set it......" 😂
Hygger lights rock
What would be the chance of you doing a vid on thier new Bluetooth full color LED light. Seems there is no reviews or clean set up information for these Hygger light.
good choice! i have an older model hygger that has the same remote thingy. the issue i have is if you set the light to the brightness and timer you want, as soon as you lose power, it resets..... have they fixed this?
Nope lol
Is there a way to mount this in a wooden hood rather than using the wire sides to place them on the edge of the aquarium? I have a 75-gallon aquarium and need something reasonably priced that can be attached to the hood/canopy. Thanks.
What are your thoughts on the “Hygger Programmable” light? Has a built in clock so you dont have to wait all day to custom program it. Instructions are horrific but once you figure it out it’s really nice.
I have a couple of those, as well.
Thanks John. I like using 24hr time. It makes me sound smart!😊
Ty
I bought the 30 to 36 inch light and it fits my 29 gallon perfect
@@68sarahL is the 30-36 inch too bright on the 29 gallon at 100% brightness? That is my concern.
@@SoMuchMass its not in mine and it is adjustable.
@@68sarahL thanks, you can’t adjust brightness in the 24/7 mode can you?
I ordered the 4ft hygger light. We really like it.
I assume the small clip on is sufficient for a low light planted 10 gallon?
I have an 18" on a 29g and if it wasn't so thick with thriving plants in there (and floaters) it would be as bright as noon if I wanted to be, it's a pretty stout light.
