    Watching this from Australia. Quite different seeing so many UTVs and what we'd call ultra light tankers (your brush trucks). Depending on area and weather our initial response (based on grass curing) would be 2 Category 1 tankers (4wd 4000L/1000 gallon) and maybe a few 500L Toyota landcruiser based brush trucks.

    I see a lot of people saying these vehicles are uncommon to see. Honestly, it depends where you are from. I live in New Jersey and 95%+ of our fire departments are volunteer. Our Fire Chiefs are allowed to run Red/White or Red/Blue or whatever and sirens. Other volunteers are only allowed to run blue but no sirens. There are many states that allow lights and sirens for volunteers and different lighting configurations depending on state laws because they don’t have full time fire departments. In such states, it is not uncommon to see personal vehicles fully kitted out as first responding vehicles. There are states that allow volunteer fire fighters and EMTs to respond lights and sirens, in any color pattern, because those are the people who do the job, often without pay. Not everywhere is lucky enough to have a full time fire department or EMT service. The least we can do is allow the qualified to do their job with lights and sirens, especially when they have to travel miles just to get to the department or to the destination… they require lights and sirens in these cases.

    • @EyebrowsMahoney
      @EyebrowsMahoney 4 года назад +4

      Sometimes US firefighters may do a full roll if required, where all the units come in at once. But for this case, it called for special brush units that were strategically placed around in different areas, and some volunteer units were also called. This is why they arrived at different times. Additionally, some units may have been on a prior call and been coming from that incident as well. Where this type of arrival is fairly common is in rural areas, where mutual aid may be called from neighboring towns and cities. Different departments/localities in the US have different responding strategies as well, and currently as far as I'm aware, full rolls are pretty uncommon where I'm at. They like to have other units available to dispatch to other calls which may arise, or for them to roll backup to a precinct that may have rolled a unit to ensure appropriate coverage depending on the precinct/district.
      Cheers!

    LOL @ the dude in the F-550 watching the curb like he has clearance issues. That's every driveway and every parking lot for me in my Mercedes AMG. Oh wait, I have 3.9 inches of ground clearance. LOL. Wish I had the 12.5 (foot and a half) that the F-550 does.
