  • (Watch in HD) On Thursday, June 4th, 2020, the San Jose Fire Department has received several calls reporting a brush fire at the Santa Teresa Foothills. I believe the call was initially a Smoke Investigation for Engine 12 but they reported heavy smoke seen from the station so it was upgraded to a TIER 1 and due to fast moving winds, it was upgraded to a TIER 2 immediately and eventually it was at a TIER 5, with Mutual Aid from Santa Clara County Fire, Spring Valley Fire, CalFire, Sunnyvale Fire, Santa Clara Fire, Palo Alto Fire, South Santa Clara County Fire, and Gilroy Fire. A mix of responses, on-scene footage, and air drops are included in this video. Enjoy!

    I wonder how many folks in the neighborhood realized that the firefighters in the orange jump suits are actually Inmates in the State Prison System?! Cal Fire uses inmate fire fighters to get the job done. They dont get much public hurrahs, but they helped to save the Santa Teresa neighborhood.

      I didn't catch this on camera but there was actually a lot of applause, clapping, and people shouting "thank you" to those crews. It was the case for both the Gabilan and Ben Lomond Fire Crews.

      I was wondering why it had department of state corrections on the trucks. Are they inmates volunteers or are they forced to assist?

      @@Tr35uckfanProductions As for the inmates being firefighters. While they are incarcerated, they do have to volunteer to be firefighters. Not all inmates qualify. Here is the link to the Calif. State Conservation site.

    Those OV-10As are quite a site. Such an interesting looking aircraft, like if an A10 and a p38 got drunk and had a baby. And those S-2s and Hueys were definitely putting in the work.

    • @Tr35uckfanProductions
      @Tr35uckfanProductions  4 года назад +1

      They definitely do look different compared to the S-2’s. Idk what they do compared to the S-2’s, Hueys, and even the MD80 I saw.

      @@Tr35uckfanProductions They are able to drop in personnel, but that would only be at most a 4 man crew. If anything they are running forward aerial observance and relaying information back down to ground crews, as well as setting up the "bombing" runs for the S-2s and Hueys, just like they would have done for aircraft back in Vietnam. The Bronco was well fitted for this service because of how long it could loiter over an area before needing to refuel.

      The OV10 carries the Air Tactical Group Supervisor, called Air Attack on the radio. Coordinates all airborne resources and is the eye in the sky for the Incident Commander.

    I've never been an Incident Commander. But I have seen how much stress it can put on one during a straight forward house fire. I cannot imagine what an IC in this situation must have to deal with! INSANE! I am not a FF but I do listen to PulsePoint, so I can hear non tactical communications on the command channels and sometimes the IC's do have a lot on their plate depending on how major the incident is.

    • @pnwlove6159
      @pnwlove6159 3 года назад +1

      I thought maybe it might have something to do with the DC 9 itself, as far as flying low and slow enough for the drops...possibly that the plane needed to have the gear to trick the flight computer into thinking it is landing so that it can be configured to fly at that low of speed and altitude. But looking online, I find just as many pictures of it with the gear up as I do down, and possibly even more. So who knows.

    • @mrbrown3462
      @mrbrown3462 3 года назад

      @@pnwlove6159 If fill site is close by and not flying far many fly gear down take off dump and land again some planes take time for gear up and down so they just leave them down. Atleast that is what I have been told if fire is close to fill gear down if fire is a distance from fill gear up.
