I know. Who would have thought that one of the guys behind Jackass was actually an incredible artist? I certainly wouldn't have. I mean, he also worked on Bad Grandpa for crying out loud.
"Her" was so emotional, whimsical, funny, and just downright real. The mind of Spike Jonze cannot be matched. I love "Her" until death, and Spike has inspired me to stride for screenwriting as a career. I knew he'd win even before it was announced. I think I scared my neighbors because of how loud my cheers were when he won. You're my idol Spike Jonze...
Here's a fun fact: Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola got married in 1999 but got divorced in 2003. In 2004, Sofia won this award for her movie "Lost in Translation", while Spike won for his movie "Her". Interestingly, both movies starred Scarlett Johansson.
Not just that. Her was also based on their story with Rooney Mara's character actually based on Sofia herself, while Anna Farris in Lost in Translation is based on Caneron Diaz who allegedly had an affair with Jonze during Being John Malkovich. Also, both Oscars came in same category
+KickTheIntolerantAsses h To me it's one of the most bizarre movies I've ever watched but it was quite touching. Nothing can replicate that, it was amazing.
It’s hard for the movie that’s the general best but another movie that has “topical” themes that the academy just eats up. Green book wasn’t a good movie neither was crash or spotlight (etc) but winning things like best screenplay, best foreign film, best actor, can at least be some recognition
It’s a shame that people only seem to remember Spike Jonze from “Jackass.” They seem to forget that he also did “Being John Malkovich” and “Adaptation”
spike jonze also directed some big skate videos, one of them being the revolutionary Video Days from blind fun fact: Jason Lee has a part in it (before he became a famous actor jason lee was a important skater in the skate industry)
1:00 I keep coming back to this video just to bask in the glory of David O. Russell's fury over going home empty-handed yet again. So satisfying. By far one of the best, most inspired and most deserving winners of the decade so far. Solid speech, too.
Wow Sofia Coppola and her ex boyfriend Spike Jonze have the same award for writing two very similar films (Her is basically a response to Lost In Translation). they should get back together lmao.
That Spike Jonze got an Oscar makes me just... _so_ happy. And also definitely worth mentioning is that this Oscar video's "Like" to "Dislike" ratio is almost 100% completely "Like". That's rare - *most* Oscar clips have a lot more disagreements over who _should_ have won that particular award. It just goes to show you how deserving and well-earned Mr. Jones' Oscar was that year. "Her" ... _really_ great movie.
Totally deserved triumph for Spike Jonze: I loved Her from the 1st time I saw it (for me, it's the best picture of 2013, even if I loved 12 Years a Slave as well).
fkn brilliant film. Great dialogue of the things that are to come and things we a think are to come . We build our own buildings perfectly but then we want to eventually move out of them cause we always need to build a better one.
I just saw the film, it's so premonitory with artificial intelligence today, I really like the "moral of the story", indeed there can be no true love with the individual who does not don't take the risks we have, that's what makes us human, thank you Spike and his team for this film.
He's a better director than writer to be honest, he and his brother were nominated in 2002 for Y Tu Mama Tambien but lost. But he won Best Director now, so everything's fine.

We need directors like Spike Jonze and Wes Anderson in Hollywood. Their originality and creativity makes going to the movies fun.

Such a unique screenplay, and of course brilliantly acted by Joaquin! I cried like a baby watching Her..
